Another great example of how music reflects the living conditions of the people making it
This week Angela Jaeger (Author of I FEEL FAMOUS Punk Diaries 1977-1981 and member of bands such as PIGBAG, THE MONOCHROME SET, THE BUSH TETRAS & THE STARE KITS) joins me to discuss THE PUNK ROCK MOVIE.We talk about Angela's feelings about publishing her personal diaries & how Thurston Moore and Byron Coley encouraged her to release them for everyone, being a teenage roadie and friend of Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, experiencing CBGB's and Max's Kansas City as a teen, heading overseas to be part of the 1978 punk movement, writing your diary in code (in case your Mom finds and reads it!), performing in Japan with Pigbag, finding your fellow weirdos as a kid, getting up the nerve to go alone to your first club shows, hanging with The Cramps more than any other band, The Dead Boys, wearing garbage bags to rock shows, how Angela's mom would let bands like The Raincoats, The Slits and Young Marble Giants crash at her home when they were touring, insights into Tier 3, the club her sister ran, the director Don Letts, The Roxy's 100 days of punk, how the film might have the best ever footage of The Sex Pistols, singing and speaking with a fake British accent, having to grow up quick and the darker sides of the punk scenes, the incredible footage of The Slits and The Clash on the White Riot tour and so much more.So let's put on a garbage bag dress and dance in front of our mirrors on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie!BOOK: https://hatandbeard.com/collections/music/products/i-feel-famous-punk-diaries-1977-1981PIGBAG ON IRS CUTTING EDGE: https://tinyurl.com/3x7xbbzbREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. What does punk rock have to do with the heart of the Gospel? In this episode, the Voxology team, joined by the Dr. Timothy Gombis, dives deep into the unexpected intersections of radical community, inclusivity, and the teachings of Jesus. From punk rock's raw authenticity to the profound ministry of disability-focused communities that Mike recently experienced at the "Hope Heals" camp. The conversation explores how cruciformity—the self-giving love of Jesus—emerges in unlikely places. Along the way, they unpack the role of the church in society, faith and politics, and navigating cultural challenges with humility and curiosity. By reflecting on the ways marginalized voices reveal the Gospel's power, the team challenges traditional notions of faith and invites listeners to reimagine how justice, community, and theology come alive in everyday life. Whether discussing mutual ministry, the prophetic edge of punk culture, or stories of transformative love, this episode is a powerful reminder that the Gospel is both disruptive and healing. We encourage and would love for you to join this conversation. Share your thoughts on how faith intersects with culture and community on Facebook and Instagram, or email us your questions as we pursue deeper understanding together. Let's journey forward in learning, dialogue, and the radical love of Jesus. In the fifth episode of Soundscapes N.Y.C., host Ryan Purcell talks with British music critic Jon Savage about how LGBTQ resistance shaped American popular music from the 1950s to the 1980s. Savage discusses the curious and queer roots of the word punk stretching back to the time of Shakespeare when it was used to connote ambiguous and transgressive gender and sexuality. Those meanings carried through to the 1970s though their origins may have been obscured by popular culture. Jon Savage is the award-winning author of England's Dreaming: Sex Pistols and Punk Rock (1991) and Teenage: The Creation of Youth, 1875-1945 (2007) and his latest book, The Secret Public: How LGBTQ Resistance Shaped Popular Culture, 1955-1979 (2024). Andrew For America presents his 4th of July show and begins with a discussion about what exactly is liberty and libertarianism. Andrew goes on to discuss how politicians from both establishment parties are beholden to lobbyists, and not the American people. Andrew also talks about communism, feminism, the alleged climate crisis, and how all of these things have contributed to the downfall of western society. Andrew ends by reading a brief history lesson from Brennan Schlagbaum on how our economy has been changed by our beloved government ever since 1971 when President Nixon took our currency off of the gold standard. Andrew plays clips from Ron Paul, Ross Perot, John Stossel, Joe Rogan, Dave Smith, Candace Owens, Elon Musk, and Represent.us to help illustrate his points. The song selection is the song, "Lou Slips" by the band Late For Life.Visit allegedlyrecords.com and check out all of the amazing punk rock artists!Visit soundcloud.com/andrewforamerica1984 to check out Andrew's music!Like and Follow The Politics & Punk Rock Podcast PLAYLIST on Spotify!!!Check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Y4rumioeqvHfaUgRnRxsy...politicsandpunkrockpodcast.comhttps://linktr.ee/andrewforamericaFollow Future Is Now Coalition on Instagram @FutureIsOrgwww.futureis.org

The Temple of Surf Podcast – This Week's Guest: Jeff “Doc” Lausch of Surf Prescriptions This week on The Temple of Surf Podcast, we welcome one of the most innovative minds in surfboard shaping, Jeff “Doc” Lausch, the legendary founder of Surf Prescriptions. With a career spanning over four decades, Doc is known not just for pushing the boundaries of surfboard design, but for injecting punk rock energy, fearless experimentation, and personal creativity into every board that leaves his shaping room. From the vibrant surf scene of Huntington Beach in the ‘80s and ‘90s to the global stage of competitive surfing, Surf Prescriptions has always stood out as a brand that blends high performance with bold individuality. Doc's boards have been ridden by some of the most radical surfers of all time and many underground legends whose careers were shaped—literally and figuratively—by his work. In this episode, we dive into Jeff's incredible journey: how he got started in shaping, the philosophy behind Surf Prescriptions, his influences in both art and surfing, and what it means to stay authentic in an industry that constantly shifts with trends. We also discuss the evolution of surf culture, the role of experimentation in board design, and why some of the most unforgettable rides happen on the most unorthodox shapes. Whether you're a surfboard design geek, a fan of 1980s surf punk culture, or just love stories from the heart of the shaping bay, this episode is a must-listen. Jeff shares candid insights on staying true to your vision, the connection between artist and athlete, and the value of trusting intuition over convention.

Joe Escalante's Weekly spelunk into the business end of showbiz. This week: let's try to steer away from celebs behaving badly... How about some box office news??? Lilo and Stitch is #1... and Joe hasn't seen it... But he did see a few good movies this week: Dogman, The Face of Jesus (which claims that Jesus may have had a nuclear resurrection), and the hot nun in Wes Anderson's The Phoencian Scheme triggers Joe's kink. Also, murder-for-hire doesn't pay... Just ask Victoria Goodwin! Russell Simmons is suing HBO for a documentary accusing him of sexual assault. Diddy shouldn't try to intimidate jurors, and Joe brags about buying into a Disney neighborhood that doesn't want you to have a statue of Goofy on the front lawn... I mean, what's the point, then???

Another week, another great modcast coming your way. I'm, kicking off the show with an American 60s band that sounds almost more mod than the British mods of their day. The band is Powder and I included them this week in part because this coming Saturday I'm going to get to meet them when they play at the Studio 66 mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery here in Seattle, and lucky me I'm going to be the guest DJ. Another thing that is making this week's show especially good is that I'm joined by my old friend Dean Hoth who is the singer and bass player for power pop band The Eddies. Additionally Dean has been a behind the scenes mover and shaker in producing some great tribute albums, and is also working on releasing unheard live materials of older mod bands from the 80s to the 90s to the 21st century. He's got some news for mod music lovers. Get on over to the modcast homepage for more info and links from Dean and a complete track list for the show. John Belushi may have been one of the funniest comedians of his generation, but he wasn't just a funny guy. He was a rock star. He partied with the Stones, fronted a world-class band of R&B legends, and was responsible for a punk rock riot in Rockefeller Center. He drew the ire of street gangs in Chicago, attempted to steal a boat with his blues brother, and performed one of his final episodes of Saturday Night Live on death's door. Everything was heightened. The stakes. The laughs. The sensory overload of lights, camera, action. He worked hard, and played harder. And when it all came to a crashing halt in a Hollywood bungalow, one question remained: Was John Belushi's death the result of foul play?
