You may have heard the song "Goodbye Horses" on your local radio station, in countless Hollywood films like Silence Of The Lambs, or even while doing missions in the Grand Theft Auto 4 videogame. Q Lazzarus who is the artist behind this hypnotic track had a strange disappearance during the height of her fame in the mid 90's. This was shortly after having a scene in the Oscar winning Tom Hanks film "Philadelphia". With not being able to be found some rumors even escalated to her being dead. 25 years later, documentary filmmaker Eva Aridjis Fuentes found her in the most serendipitous way. Q broke her silence, opened up to Eva and explained absolutely everything that happened. This documentary was such a riveting tale that mad us feel sadness, joy, and all that's in between. It seems like Eva and Q's fate of crossing paths was meant to be, and we got the chance to talk to Eva and get a few extra layers of this incredible story.

Content warning: Depictions of abuse and violence toward women and transgender people. The atrocities committed by Buffalo Bill, a serial killer known for skinning his victims, make up only some of the injustices outlined in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, director Jonathan Demme's adaptation of Thomas Harris's novel. Among the others: Stunted actualization, systemic removal of agency, and a culture-wide lack of empathy. In this episode, we discuss the motivations of Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins in his most iconic role) as he shepherds Clarice Starling (a thoroughly empathetic Jodie Foster) along the path to Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine in plurality). In achieving full actualization – a comprehensive marriage of form and theme – THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS casts a stylized and sensational, pointed and restrained (but not always fair or friendly) eye toward the people who are ‘allowed' to capital-B Become and those who must do it the hard way. “A Farewell to Horses” by Natalie Marlin for Perisphere, the Trylon blog: https://www.perisphere.org/2023/10/22/a-farewell-to-horses/ Follow us on Twitter at https://twitter.com/trylovepodcast and email us at trylovepodcast@gmail.com to get in touch! "I do wish I could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye." We watched "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) with our friend Donovan Marcotte and we may or may not have polished off an entire bottle of chianti. What can we say about this iconic '90s psychological thriller? This movie really launched an entire genre in movies and TV and the Brian Fuller produced Hannibal television series, but we're here to talk about the iconic Jonathan Demme directed film. Nothing quite screams "why are you like this?" more than adult gays reflecting on watching this film WAY too early and loving every minute of it. We're not saying this movie warped us but wer're not, not saying it. On a film appreciation level, this movie ticks all the boxes (Oscar Sweep) but on a queer level... I mean Jodie Foster is Mother. Yes this movie has some outdated and problematic depictions of queer and in particular trans characters and we definitely address that. Hopefully the antiquated language and depictions of the LGBTQ community don't put too much of a damper on our discussion of this classic movie. Besides, it's still scary as hell and we would be remiss if we didn't mention THE song of the season - "Goodbye Horses" by the late great Q Lazzarus. IDLES are a British rock band formed in Bristol in 2009. The band consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass) and Jon Beavis (drums). A self-proclaimed 'angry band' from Bristol in Southwest England, IDLES take the fury of punk rock and wed it to a muscular but moody instrumental attack that matches the literate, purposeful menace of their lyrics. Lead singer and lyricist Joe Talbot's full-bodied ranting, in which he offers his vehement opinions on the state of British culture and his own personal issues, is matched by the rich, angular blast of the musicians, who can swing from melodic to brutally hard at a moment's notice. In this episode all songs selected by IDLES as guests for Australian TV show Rage, on Saturday June 8, 2019. "You take a sad song and make it better..."   Hey Paul - thanks for the lyrics (even though we don't mention the Beatles AT ALL in this show.)   Tonight we honor the massive musical talent we lost in 2022... poorly, just like you expect from your hosts.    Eric & El Carpe roll through the songs from the bands these folks were part of... part of the bands, and part of our lives.     We played songs from bands like, The Specials, Primal Scream, The Tubes, PIL, The Pogues, Nazareth, Depeche Mode, Foo Fighters, Happy Mondays, Suicidal Tendencies, Foreigner, Olivia Newton John, (not Olivia Newtron Bomb), The Rascals, Meatloaf, Q Lazzarus, and the Stranglers...  to name just a few.   Not to mention others we lost others like Monty Norman who composed the 007 Theme Song, Coolio (we did a show earlier this year devoted only to him), Jerry Lee Lewis and Loretta Lynn.   Lot of talent gone, but they left behind a catalog of amazing and varied music for us and generations to hear and enjoy... and make new memories.  Thanks for all the creative talent you gave us !   Somehow we turned as sad story into something fun.  We hope you enjoy listening to our mess as we try to honor the talent we lost this year. May your 2023 rock and roll (koochie-koo)... Join us for more fun as we continue to hack our way through the next year of musical silliness... Eric has some great ideas, and El Carpe is his bitch... so will do whatever he wants.   It's gonna be fun, join us !   Pour Me Another Brother !

A taste of honey. A lot of the content in this episode is outdated and the facts presented may have changed. We sincerely apologize for the delay...but it will probably happen again. ~The HYG CrewAt the time of recording this episode (05.28.20), most people had been quarantined for at least a solid month. During this time, a lot of us have turned to our streaming services to self soothe...Netflix, HULU, Shutter, and so on have been our go-to. As mentioned in previous episodes, pandemic type movies have hit another wave of popularity...which makes sense. By showing such real-world experiences, like epidemics/outbreaks, within the confines of a story, it makes it easier for people to absorb and explore the “what-ifs” of the situation while sitting in the safety of their living room. By giving such stories a beginning, middle, and end, it gives people the feeling that the real crisis will also have an eventual ending.But...there’s another major genre many people are re-visiting.So, COVID-19...we know it ends either in death or recovery...but let’s suspend disbelief, and introduce the Zed word. Zombie outbreaks have similar starts and causes vary. Sometimes origins are wildly fictional. Other times the source of a zombie apocalypse is unknown. Whether vir or aiborne, what happens if the next big pandemic creates a league of the undead? How will our government react? Do you think you could survive?Fact is, zombies don’t exist...at least not yet...so then why are they so popular? Fear films have used zombies as metaphors for much deeper fears held by society for decades and decades. Fear of primitive or dissimilar cultures, Communism, Atomic destruction, mass contagion. However, it's our perpetual fear of one another as a civilization which seems to present the biggest hurdle. A society set in the ways of an outdated idealogy, a lopsided judicial system and corrupt institutional structuring and if present day happenings don't have you convinced I'm sure nothing will.In this episode, we’ll be exploring these and other questions as we go through some zombie flicks we kinda remember. I’m Marty, welcome to another fucking podcast!Today, I am joined once again by Marc, Ernest, Andrew, and the ever reluctant, Naomi. So, thanks for tuning in…sit back, relax, and “Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think…”**All original music in this episode created by Rene Rendon except "Goodbye Horses" written by Q Lazzarus.***All Sound Clips and music courtesy of a bunch of other people's hard work and used for mildly entertaining emphasis.

Crèdits musicals: - Fat vegetarian d'Hideki Takimoto (BY-NC-SA 3.0) - Goodbye horses (Q Lazzarus cover) de Brad Sucks (BY 3.0)
