Sometimes the biggest seasons of growth come from the hardest chapters of life.In this episode, we sat down with the incredibly honest and grounded Anna Lord to talk about what it really looks like to evolve your business while navigating personal change—moving cities, processing grief, shifting priorities, starting a family… and doing it all without losing momentum. We talked about letting go of the timeline you thought you had to follow. About redefining what success looks like (and feels like). About giving yourself permission to shift—not just for the sake of your business, but for the sake of your life. And maybe most importantly, we talked about what happens when you stop trying to do it all and start building a support system that actually supports you.If you've been feeling the tension of growing your business while also being human, this conversation will remind you: you're not behind, you're just in a new chapter. And you're more capable than you think. No more fear of falling behind. No more pressure to get it perfect. No more doing it all alone. You get to evolve. You get to grow slow. You get to win on your terms.Let's talk about what that can actually look like.

This episode features an interview with Armen Najarian, CMO at Sift, an AI-powered fraud platform delivering identity trust for leading global businesses.Armen has 10 years of experience as a CMO across a variety of fraud prevention, digital identity, and cybersecurity organizations. He discusses how word of mouth and a strong brand has allowed them to become a leader in their space and also gives insight into Sift's top source for demand generation.Key Takeaways:It is riskier not to take risks. Marketers need to be willing to try something unconventional. If it fails, the world goes on. Giving your customers access to your data, if it answers important questions for them, can be a key driver of demand. Understand what your customers are curious about and what questions they are asking. If you can find a way to provide answers, the ROI will be significant. Quote: ”Those that aren't taking risks are the ones taking risks, is the way I would look at this. Like we have to take risks -you know, it's gotten so noisy and some of the tried and true tactics like organic search, right, which is completely flipped on its head right now. Every CMO has a responsibility, anyone in marketing really, has a responsibility to really rethink the logic for what they're doing and take some risks.”Episode Timestamps: *(02:29) The Trust Tree: 10 years of CMO experience*(09:19) The Playbook: Answering your customers biggest questions*(38:24) The Dust Up: To create a category or not *(42:32) Quick Hits: Armen's quick hitsSponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com. "Know your value. Don't ask for permission to take up space. Just get out there and start doing things. We have one life, and we don't get to go bac,k and we have no do-overs. It doesn't matter if people are judging you. The people that are judging you are normally sitting on their couch not doing anything, but judging you. And so if you're out there doing the thing they're judging, you're already winning." —Tara PolleyOne word is all it takes— “Yes.” When you choose "yes," you're not just agreeing to an opportunity; you're declaring war on your comfort zone and challenging the status quo of your own limitations. Each "yes" is a stepping stone to a version of yourself you've only imagined in quiet moments of potential. It's the bridge between who you are and who you're meant to become. Markets were close to turning a short-term buy signal into a sell signal...but...yesterday's rally saved it, and a continuation of the rally today will also provide octane for buyers (presuming nothing goes wrong). Markets have been over sold by three standard deviations, and still remain depressed against their moving averages. Markets have gone through a 61% Fibonacci retracement, which is pretty deep for any type of a market move. If markets can continue to rally, we would consider taking some more risk off the table. Today, we have a great episode with Andrew Chan from Atas Ventures.Surprise surprise…we're continuing the conversation about the climate tech vibe shift, climate tech 3.0, climate risk…whatever you want to call it. However, our conversation with Andrew Chan of Atas Ventures is a little bit different. Andrew has, from the very beginning, thought about climate investing from first principles, placing profitability and tangible impact at the core of his strategy. He refers to this next wave as "Climate 3.0," an evolution beyond traditional impact investing towards applied technologies like robotics, IoT, and advanced energy solutions. Our conversation today focuses on these themes, including how venture capital can meaningfully intersect with antiquated industries such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing to drive both profits and genuine environmental outcomes. Andrew also shares why the venture capital playbook may need to evolve, emphasizing smarter portfolio construction, disciplined investing, and leveraging real-world experience to build lasting companies.Overall, it's an amazing episode and we're really excited to share this with you.Sidenote, we recorded this remotely while Andrew was traveling—he joined us from Bangor, Maine. This week, I'm sitting down with John Brock—my husband Luke's boss and business partner—who also happens to be one of the most unexpected, unconventional lawyers you'll ever meet.John didn't take the typical path to success. As a kid, he struggled in school, barely knew how to read in elementary, and had to fight for every win. Now? He's running one of the most forward-thinking law firms in Knoxville. We talk about what it took to get here, the hustle (he's a 4 a.m. workout guy, y'all), and how he and his wife Stacy built a life and marriage that could handle the chaos of it all.But John's not just about winning cases—he's about building something different. He's creating a law firm where young attorneys actually want to stay, where work-life balance matters, and where the old-school, burnout culture of law gets left behind. And, of course, we get into what's next—mission work, maybe a Nashville expansion, and why he's always looking for the next challenge. If you've ever felt like the traditional path wasn't for you, this one's gonna hit home. John's proof that you can do things your own way—and do them well.- - - - - - - - - - -Liz Durham Instagram | WebsiteSubscribe Apple Podcast | SpotifyBeing Different with Liz Durham is a Palm Tree Pod Co. production

Pure magic. Today's episode is real, raw, and ridiculously fun—just two girlfriends catching up and dishing on career twists, hilarious behind-the-scenes moments, and the unexpected things that bring them joy (hint: horses, wine, and letting go of perfection). Some of Our Favorite Moments:“What are we waiting for?” – Natalie talks about making the bold move from NYC to LA, inspired by Kit, and realizing that the perfect time never comes—you just have to jump.“I feed my therapist hay.” – Natalie opens up about her deep connection with horses and how they've taught her to let go, trust, and be present.“Don't underestimate me.” – For years, she was told she wasn't “Latina enough” or that she didn't have the right news “edge.” Natalie shares how she finally found her voice and learned to ask for what she deserved.“Forget hair, makeup, and glamour.” – Advice for aspiring journalists? Be ready for 3 AM wake-up calls, working weekends, and rolling your own teleprompter—because that's the real grind.“Give me wine, cheese, and chocolate, and I'll talk for days!” – Natalie reveals her go-to indulgences and her undeniable love for a good hangout session.“Laugh at yourself more.” – Even now, she admits she's her own toughest critic. But she's learning to let go, internalize less, and embrace the joy.“Sleep. Turns. Me. On.” – Forget the fancy answers. A solid night's sleep is what gets Natalie feeling her best! (Relatable, right?!)“I've just started manifesting.” – While she doesn't know exactly what's next, one thing is for sure—Natalie is creating space for new opportunities and FUN.This isn't just another interview—it's two besties getting real about reinvention, change, and finding clarity in life's pivots. Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our “Hands and Feet” weekly theme with a chat about risk-taking for the Lord. Often, the Lord will call us to do things we aren’t comfortable with, but as devoted followers, we must obey His direction. Have you been a risk-taker for the Lord? We turned to Ecclesiastes 11, where Solomon encourages us to live life to the fullest for the Lord. Our special guest, Phil Kwiatkowski, joined the conversation and shared about the rescue mission organization he works with, Pacific Garden Mission (PGM). Phil is the President of PGM and was once Vice President of ministries and a counselor. He is also a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. They also emphasized the importance of personal growth, self-reflection, and surrounding oneself with the right voices to overcome challenges.Risk Strategy: Focusing on Desired OutcomeMary discussed her approach to risk, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the desired outcome rather than the challenges themselves. She used the analogy of reaching an island, symbolizing the end goal, to illustrate her approach. Gordon asked about building risk tolerance, to which Mary responded that it requires taking risks and experiencing failure as a learning process. She likened it to learning to walk as a child, where one must attempt and fall to progress.Facing Fears to Build ToleranceMary discussed the importance of facing fears and taking risks to build tolerance and achieve experiences. Gordon shared a personal story about his daughter learning to drive and overcoming her fear. Both agreed that finding motivation and focusing on the end result, rather than just relying on motivation, is key to success. Mary revealed her own motivation comes from a hunger for growth, a desire to learn, and a love for connecting with diverse communities.Personal Growth and Self-ReflectionGordon and Mary discussed the importance of personal growth and the desire for it. Mary emphasized the need for self-reflection to understand one's purpose and motivations. She suggested taking small steps towards change and listening to intuition. They also touched on the balance between introversion and extroversion, suggesting that spending time alone can help in understanding oneself better. My guest today is Graham Duncan. This conversation will make you think about your life in new ways. This is a two-hour segment of a 4.5-hour interview I did with Graham last year. It stands alone as remarkable, but those who subscribe to Colossus Review will gain access to the full conversation. This will be true in future issues, too. In 2006, in his early 30s, Graham convinced Stuart Miller, CEO of home construction company Lennar, to let him manage $50 million of his family's wealth. A year later, Miller gave him the rest of his capital outside of Lennar. That investment turned into East Rock, where Graham built an incredible investing track record managing billions for a select group of families by focusing on people. Our conversation explores a wide range of topics—from what makes a great investment partnership to the power of positive feedback loops to starting a restaurant. I'm thankful to Graham for showing me the way so many times and for being willing to be so incredibly open in this conversation. Please enjoy this discussion with Graham Duncan.
