GDP Script/ Top Stories for Dec 10th Publish Date: Dec 8th HENSSLER 15 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Sunday, December 10th and Happy 48th Birthday to Seven Nation Army drummer Meg White ***12.10.23 - BIRTHDAY - MED WHITE (SEVEN NATION ARMY)*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Peggy Slappy Properties. Aurora Theatre's 'Christmas Canteen' is a community tradition Diabetes drugs may reduce colon cancer risk: study Central Gwinnett's Jenna Cloninger named Gwinnett County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Peggy Slappy STORY 1: Aurora Theatre's 'Christmas Canteen' is a community tradition The Aurora Theatre's annual production of "Christmas Canteen" in Lawrenceville, Georgia, is celebrating its 28th year. Conceived as a tribute to the USO shows entertaining military personnel during past decades, the show has evolved into a lively revue-type production reminiscent of Christmas variety shows from the 1960s and 1970s. The 10-person cast, including members of Aurora's apprentice program, performs a mix of old and modern tunes, incorporating skits for comedy and poignant songs for emotional moments. The show, running until December 23, has become a holiday tradition for many patrons, blending nostalgia with new experiences. STORY 2: Diabetes drugs may reduce colon cancer risk: study A groundbreaking study suggests that diabetes drugs, specifically glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), may significantly reduce the risk of colon cancer (colorectal cancer or CRC). Researchers at Case Western Reserve University found that GLP-1 RAs were more effective than other anti-diabetic drugs in preventing CRC. The study, published in JAMA Oncology, emphasizes the potential of GLP-1 RAs in preventing deadly forms of cancer associated with obesity and diabetes. The drugs, commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, have been shown to lower blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, manage weight, and reduce rates of major cardiovascular ailments. STORY 3: Central Gwinnett's Jenna Cloninger named Gwinnett County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year Jenna Cloninger, who teaches oceanography at Central Gwinnett High School, has been named Gwinnett County Public Schools' overall Teacher of the Year. Cloninger emphasized the recognition as an achievement for the entire oceanography team in Gwinnett schools, shedding light on elective subjects often overshadowed by high-stakes testing and core subjects. The course is offered as a fourth-year science elective for high school seniors and plays a vital role in enriching students' lives and helping them discover their passions. Cloninger will compete for statewide Teacher of the Year honors. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back Break 2: MOG – TOM WAGES – Glow Light Show STORY 4: Consumer Health: Flu vaccination and cancer It is crucial for individuals with cancer to receive a yearly flu vaccination, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Mayo Clinic. The flu can lead to severe complications, especially for those with weakened immune systems, chronic illnesses, or cancer. Flu complications for high-risk individuals may include pneumonia, heart problems, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. While the flu vaccine may not be 100% effective, it significantly reduces the risk of infection, lessens severity, and lowers the chance of hospitalization. Additional preventive measures include frequent handwashing, avoiding face-touching, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning surfaces, and avoiding crowded places during peak flu season. STORY 5: Editorial: Voters are right to complain about inflation The Federal Reserve's efforts to guide the U.S. economy toward a soft landing, reducing inflation without causing a recession, appear to be working against the odds. Recent data show continued economic growth, a gradually cooling job market, and a slower pace of service price increases. However, despite these positive signs, voters remain persistently unhappy with the economy, possibly due to the significant inflation surge following the pandemic. The Biden administration's attempts to declare victory over inflation have been met with skepticism, as many households experience increased costs of living, particularly in groceries, housing, and credit. The lesson for policymakers is to recognize that people are the best judges of their own financial circumstances, and inflation disproportionately affects financially stressed households, making it a critical concern for both economics and politics. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: JACKSON – ESOG - INGLES 3 STORY 6: Commentary: What's it like to be an average American? On an average day in the United States, people drive 32 miles (about an hour daily), with over 14,000 car accidents occurring daily. The average American spends almost three hours watching TV and over three hours on smartphones, checking their phones 58 times daily. Americans consume around 5.5 pounds of food daily and approximately two alcoholic beverages per day. On average, 10,000 babies are born, 9,500 people die, and around 4,000 people immigrate to the U.S. daily. The federal government spends over $17 billion daily, leading to unsustainable fiscal imbalances. The daily average of 123 firearm-related deaths includes about 13 from mass shootings, while drug overdose deaths average 294 per day, emphasizing the need for effective policies. The data highlights the diverse and unique experiences within a population of 335 million people. STORY 7: Liam Denning: Musk's Cyberbeast has a weight problem The weight and acceleration of electric vehicles (EVs), exemplified by Tesla's Cybertruck, pose safety concerns in collisions with traditional vehicles. EVs, heavier due to batteries, accelerate faster and can overpower lighter vehicles, causing more severe accidents. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) warns about the dangers in mismatched collisions. The popularity of heavier EVs contributes to a longstanding trend of increasing vehicle weights in the auto industry. As EVs become more prevalent, the potential for such mismatched collisions grows. The key to addressing safety concerns involves improving charging infrastructure to reduce the need for large, heavy batteries and promote lighter EV models. We'll have final thoughts after this. Ever since its introduction in 2019, the Tesla CyberTruck has consistently drawn attention within the automotive sphere. Its distinctive cold-rolled stainless steel exoskeleton and cutting-edge production techniques have fueled ongoing interest, despite numerous postponements to its release date. Fans of the vehicle are constantly on the hunt for the newest updates, and the recent investor day presentations have substantiated a long-rumored innovation: the CyberTruck's groundbreaking 48-volt electrical structure. While 48-volt systems have seen partial implementation in mild hybrid vehicles, particularly for high-demand components, the CyberTruck is making a significant advancement by substituting the conventional 12-volt system. Traditional 12-volt systems necessitate larger, heavier wiring and components to accommodate high electrical demands. Conversely, the 48-volt system manages high demands more effectively, diminishing the size and weight of wiring and ultimately enhancing vehicle performance, handling, and production proficiency.

"Foxconn: iPhone maker bets on electric truck firm Lordstown Motors Foxconn, which makes iPhones for Apple, says it is deepening its investment in a US electric pick-up truck firm, which could challenge Tesla's Cybertruck. The technology giant is spending up to $170m (£147.8m) on shares in the loss-making start-up Lordstown Motors. The major cash injection comes as the company aims to ramp up production of its debut model, the Endurance. Lordstown recently began building the vehicle at a former General Motors plant in the US state of Ohio. Under the deal, the world's largest contract manufacturer of electronics bought a more than 18% stake in Lordstown, making it the largest investor in the company. Apple iPhones delayed over China Covid lockdown UK battery firm averts collapse as funding secured Mini move to China unfortunate, minister says ""Since announcing our first transaction with Foxconn more than a year ago, it has been our objective to develop a broad strategic partnership that leverages the capabilities of both companies,"" Lordstown's executive chairman Daniel Ninivaggi said. ""Foxconn's latest investment is another step in that direction,"" he added. The two companies also said they would jointly develop an electric vehicle together, although they did not give further details of the plan. The tie-up came after the world's biggest electric carmaker Tesla, which is owned by multi-billionaire Elon Musk, was earlier this month reported by the Reuters news agency to be planning to start mass production of its Cybertruck at the end of 2023. That would be two years after the original target for the highly-anticipated pick-up truck that Mr Musk unveiled in 2019. Taiwan-based Foxconn's investment is the latest cash injection into Lordstown as it continues to run at a loss. Separately on Monday, figures for the three months to the end of September showed a net loss of $154.4m, wider than the $95.8m loss the company reported for the same time last year. Shares in Lordstown rose by almost 18% in extended trading in New York after the announcements. Last week Foxconn agreed a deal with Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund to produce electric vehicles in the kingdom. The joint venture will operate under the brand name Ceer, which sounds like the Arabic word for ""drive"". Ceer will license technology from Germany's BMW and aims to start selling its electric vehicles from 2025. The deal is part of Saudi Arabia's push to move its economy away from its dependence on fossil fuels. Last month Foxconn's chairman Liu Young-way said he hopes the company will one day make cars for Tesla as it ramps up electric vehicle manufacturing operation. Speaking at the company's annual Tech Day, he said the firm aimed to replicate its success in manufacturing consumer devices as it expands into making electric vehicles for major motor industry brands. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-63551439?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Bgnl.newsletters%5D-%5Bheadline%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D&xtor=ES-213-[BBC%20News%20Newsletter]-2022November8-[top+news+stories] " "#TheMummicogblogOfMalta Amazon Top and Flash Deals(Affiliate Link - You will support our translations if you purchase through the following link) - https://amzn.to/3CqsdJH Compare all the top travel sites in just one search to find the best hotel deals at HotelsCombined - awarded world's best hotel price comparison site. Today we're talking about a major cut in salaried positions at Ford, the Q2 Tesla investor call that gave some insight into when Tesla's Cybertruck may be entering the market, and a legal move by Amazon intended to keep global site reviews honest.Ford to cut 8,000 jobs from Ford Blue and other salaried positions to grow profitsCEO Jim Farley said the company is not being competitive on cost and “under earn” on both ICE and EVs according to a Bloomberg reportFord employs 31,000 people in the US where the vast majority of the cuts are going to be madePreviously, Farley has stated his intention to cut $3 Billion in costs by 2026 as he wants to make Ford Blue the primary cash engine for the entire businessTake Away: Lean and profitable seems to be a common, post pandemic trendTesla's Cybertruck may see first deliveries as early as mid - 2023 On an investor webcast, CEO Elon Musk delivered the news. The last time the Cybertruck delivery was mentioned was in the Q4 report from 2022 when Musk said, “Hopefully next year”Profits rose while revenue declinedTesla converted 75% of it's Bitcoin holdings to cash adding just under $1 Billion in liquid capitalYou can check out the most recent shareholder deck hereTake Away: Underpromise, overdeliver…but we'll seeAmazon sues thousands of FB groups soliciting fake product reviews Over 10,000 lawsuits were filed yesterday against the administrators of FB groups who solicit and incentivize other users to leave fake reviews on Amazon sites across the globe“Our teams stop millions of suspicious reviews before they're ever seen by customers, and this lawsuit goes a step further to uncover perpetrators operating on social media,” Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon's vice president of selling partner services, said in a statement. “Proactive legal action targeting bad actors is one of many ways we protect customers by holding bad actors accountable.”Earlier this year, Meta identified and removed one such group that had over 43,000 users who had been dodging detection by removing letters when spelling words that might trigger further investigationTake Away: Consumers typically trust one another and keeping reviews plentiful and clean is an important step in retailingGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/Rock with us LIVE at ASOTU CON! Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 4th January. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. WILL TESLA SELL OVER 1.5 MILLION ELECTRIC CARS IN 2022? - The starting point is over 936,000 in 2021. Assuming that the rate of 300,000+ units per quarter would be maintained for all of 2022, the company would be at 1.2 million total. - In terms of new plants, according to the latest reports, Tesla Giga Austin in Texas should start production soon, and Tesla Giga Berlin in Grünheide near Berlin, Germany also appears ready to start production. - If those two new plants would add 300,000 together, with a maintained rate from Q4 by the plants in California and China, the total would then exceed 1.5 million. That's 600,000 additional BEVs in a year. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558267/tesla-ev-sales-2022-forecast/ 4 MILLION PEOPLE WILL DRIVE TESLAS BY THE END OF 2022 - According to our data, Tesla has delivered by the end of 2021 more than 2,335,000 all-electric cars, which is by way more than anyone else. - This number includes more than half a million Model S/Model X and more than 1.8 million Model 3/Model Y. - considering the recent production rate of 308,600 units in Q4 2021, we should see 2.5 million total and 2 million Model 3/Model Y in February/March. - Assuming 1.5 million new Tesla cars in 2022, there would be over 3.8 million total, maybe more, depending on what the current year will bring. 4 million Teslas would be a tremendous achievement. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558272/4-million-teslas-2022-forecast/ FORD F-150 LIGHTNING PRICING ANNOUNCED - Ford announced pricing and more details about the Ford F-150 Lightning, which later this week will be available for order (by reservation holders, in batches). As we know, there are four versions of the truck, Pro, XLT, Lariat and Platinum. Production of all four types will begin in Spring. MSRP price of Ford F-150 Lightning in the U.S.: Pro: $39,974 XLT: $52,974 Lariat: $67,474 Platinum: $90,874 - The Pro version comes with the Standard Range Battery for up to 230 miles (370 km) of expected EPA range. There is also the Extended Range Battery that extends the range up to 300 miles (483 km) - optional in the case of XLT and Lariat ($10,000), and standard in the Platinum trim. - there is a Pro version with the Extended Range Battery ($10,000 option) but it's envisioned only for fleets. - According to the previous report, the difference between the two battery options is 33 kWh of usable battery capacity: Standard Range Battery: 98 kWh Extended Range Battery: 131 kWh Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558716/ford-f150-lightning-pricing/ F-150 Lightning Options Add Up To Rivian Territory Real Fast - The Lightning really begins to pale when you start adding luxuries, like heated seats. Butt warmers require equipment group 312A, which also includes Ford's CoPilot 360 2.0 Level 2 driver assist suite, a power tailgate and a heated leather steering wheel in addition to other, less noteworthy bells and whistles. That's another $9,500 on the sticker. - Couple the extended range battery with 312A to get the Lightning relatively close to the R1T's base spec in terms of interior comforts and performance, and you're spending $74,169 including destination. - Poking around both electric pickups' build-and-price tools, here's the impression I get: the F-150 Lightning is obviously the more affordable truck and actually attainable for those with less to spend. However, if you plan on checking boxes for options, the R1T will quickly become the better value. For $60K-$70K, it's the more compelling package. Despite the global chip crisis, electric vehicle sales dominated the market and made up 64.5 percent of sales in 2021, which is the highest percentage ever achieved by them. - The country's record month in terms of EVs sales market share was September, with 77.5 percent of all vehicles sold in the country being battery electric vehicles. - Tesla is the most popular brand in Norway, beating Volkswagen's 11-year success story. The Model 3 was the number one favorite for Norwegian customers, followed by Toyota's RAV4 EV, and Volkswagen's ID.4. Tesla's Model Y achieved fourth place. The update may have been implemented during the final weeks of 2021. - Previously, the all-electric pickup truck's order page featured a simple note stating that customers will be able to “complete their (your) configuration as production nears in 2022.” Tesla's Cybertruck order page today simply informs customers that they will be able to complete their vehicle configurations as production nears. Tesla's Cybertruck is hard to forget. In late 2019, Elon Musk took the stage to unveil his company's latest design, a futuristic, boxy EV truck described by observers as a “large metallic trapezoid.”In a now infamous demo of how “breakproof” the Cybertruck's windows were, an engineer threw a metal ball at the glass, which Musk had described as bulletproof, causing it to unexpectedly shatter. But Cybertruck's moment in the sun didn't end there, and since then the company has reportedly netted about a million pre-orders for the model, production of which was originally planned for this year.Last month, Musk confirmed that the production goal for the pickup needed to be modified, saying that it won't actually go into production until late 2022, with volume ramping up in 2023. But since then, Tesla has quietly made some other changes on its website that have the industry speculating that the Cybertruck might be facing further delays… and leaving some questioning whether we'll ever see it at all.

Steve Tidball—the CEO and co-founder of Vollebak—is passionate about leveraging technology and science to create the clothing of the future. He and his brother co-founded the apparel brand in 2016 and have completely shaken up the industry. They focus on creating clothing from exotic materials such as graphene and algae, each with its own unique purpose. How did their business come about? What sparked the idea to launch something so revolutionary? Learn more as Steve and I chat about the future of the clothing industry, science & technology, and Steve's love for uncommon materials. It's a fascinating take on an industry that has gone untouched for far too long. Outline of This Episode [0:17] I learn how Steve Tidball was inspired to launch Vollebak [3:40] Vollebak: extreme clothing for extreme conditions [5:25] Experimenting with uncommon and exotic materials - why? [14:50] It's only relevant if it's actually adopted [16:47] Their journey from advertising to innovative clothing [21:10] A brand for a dystopian tomorrow [27:00] We finished our jacket, how's your rocket going? [28:50] How Steve's childhood influences the present [35:25] Steve's vision for the future of the company [38:08] Influencing how you perceive clothing [42:00] Increased transparency in the apparel industry [43:30] What materials will Steve try next? The roots of the futuristic apparel company Vollebak Steve and his brother, Nick, spend their free time racing ultra-marathons around the world and always find themselves competing in extreme conditions. While preparing for a race across the Namib desert in Namibia, they stumbled upon their first idea. They spent a night tossing and turning, unable to sleep as they anticipated the 24-hour trek in 130-degree heat that they would be attempting the next day. What if a piece of clothing could solve their problem? What if they designed something that could help calm their nerves and let them sleep? 5 years later, they launched their Baker Miller Relaxation Hoodie. It's engineered as an ‘isolation tank' that is able to lower your heart rate and slow your brainwaves, improving your ability to sleep. Now, Steve and Nick focus on creating clothing out of exotic materials by meshing their love for design, technology, and the latest scientific breakthroughs. The future of clothing is in exotic materials Adventure sports athletes are often in conditions where they are risking their lives on a daily basis. They need their clothing to perform at the highest level. Vollebak strives to create clothing of fabrics that will protect these extreme athletes in the worst of conditions. But they also desire to remake each piece of your wardrobe in an interesting and memorable way. They have a long history of being maverick inventors and prefer to push the limit, doing what hasn't been done before. That's why they launched a jacket coated in graphene—an allotrope of carbon that is 100x stronger than steel. They also designed their Solar Charged jacket that stores and re-emits light at night (akin to a firefly). They even created a t-shirt made of pulped eucalyptus, beech, and algae that is completely biodegradable. I myself recently purchased their indestructible puffer jacket, constructed with Dyneema®, the world's strongest fiber. Steve points out that they aren't creating anything new. These are all materials that have been used before—just not in clothing. They love when people tell them it's impossible to create clothing from these materials. They enjoy the challenge of proving the naysayers wrong. They make the impossible possible with their revolutionary designs. Listen to hear some of the amazing applications of their jackets and how they've even saved lives. Their journey from advertising to the apparel industry Before Steve and Nick dove into apparel, they started their careers in advertising at a point when the industry began transitioning away from huge televised ads. Social social media was becoming a driving force in advertising. Ad budgets are now spent on Google and Facebook. They learned that in advertising that it was all about perception. They had to make brands interesting. They were struck with this thought: What if each piece of clothing functioned like an ad? Each piece of apparel is named after what it is and what it does. Every product has a story. Now they spend their time creating products as they come across new and innovative materials that they could potentially use. Steve truly enjoys seeing his clothing being worn. It's all well and good to create something extraordinary, but he believes it's only relevant if it's actually adopted and used. Someone wearing and loving the product is far more exciting to him than the conception. Perhaps that is because he is the strategist while his brother handles the creative side of the business. Building a brand for the future We live in a charged and unstable world with an uncertain future. Rampant bushfires and natural disasters leave me wondering what our future will look like. Steve points out that we are a frontier-based species always looking for a challenge to overcome and that radical periods of change lead to the most incredible innovations. He believes exciting changes are ahead. Perhaps we will become an intergalactic species that will one day live on Mars. After all, Tesla's Cybertruck was built with Mars in mind. Steve hopes that as we near the realm of space travel that his apparel can be at the forefront, driving change. He desires to create clothing that alters the plasticity of human life, enhances sensory perception, and can even adopt a breathing system. His goal is to radically alter the perception of what clothing should be and can be. Listen to the whole episode as Steve and I discuss how his childhood influenced his current success. We also talk about the future of the company and the increased importance of transparency in the clothing industry.
