All it takes is a small amount of oxidative stress to the eye's lens to develop a cataract. A healthy lens is composed of an organized protein called crystallin. When this tissue becomes damaged, it is not replaced. Glycation can damage the lens of the eye. It results from sugar connecting to a protein and then becoming stuck and unusable to the body. Steroids like Prednisone can also increase the risk of cataracts. Not all surgeries can eliminate cataracts, and they can come with complications. According to “The Cataract Cure” by Dr. Marios Kyriazis, there is a safe, effective remedy for cataracts. Carnosine is a unique compound that can penetrate the lens of the eye and help with cataracts. Carnosine is a potent antioxidant that can dissolve damaged proteins. It can also activate your own antioxidants. NAC (n-acetyl carnosine) eye drops are one of the best remedies for cataracts. In an experiment conducted at the Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute of Eye Diseases, scientists used NAC eyedrops at 1% concentration on rabbits. They found that NAC could reach the inner parts of the eye within 15 to 30 minutes. No side effects were reported during this experiment. The author concluded that NAC is a proposed eye treatment for eye disorders, including cataracts, glaucoma, corneal disorders, inflammation, and complications from diabetes. The same group of scientists who performed the rabbit studies also tested NAC on humans. They selected 49 volunteers with an average age of 65 who had established age-related cataracts. After 6 months, researchers found that:•41% of people presented a significant reduction of clouding in the lens•90% showed a gradual improvement in vision•89% showed up to a 100% improvement in sensitivity to glare NAC for cataracts must be used for at least 3 to 5 months. Antioxidants such as those found in onions, egg yolks, leafy greens, and grass-fed red meat can protect you against cataracts.Vitamin A is vital for eye health and can be found in cod liver oil and grass-fed liver. B vitamins, especially B2, B6, and folate, are also essential. BOOK LINK: https://www.amazon.com/Cataract-Cure-... Dr. Dunning is a fearless researcher currently deeply involved in understanding the biochemical and structural relationships inside the human body to prevent illness, slow senescence and regenerate tissue with existing body systems that have not been used to their fullest. He studies life extension. Currently he's writing his third book on the subject of life extension that looks at the intimate relationship of Iron overloading in the mitochondrial matrix and copper deficiency that exacerbates that relationship. It is evident that diet is a keystone in that arch and the correct human diet is animal based. He believes that what goes on between the mouth and the mitochondrial membrane determines our victory in maintaining health. He follows Mark Twain's thinking about the scientific method in that "I was educated once; it took me years to get over it." Skepticism is the key to learning in his view. His expertise is in regenerative medicine practicing a Hippocratic method; employing food, or restricting food to improve mitochondrial health and ATP output. He is also a promoter of animal products as an optimal food source based on our early development as large brained hominids from the adoption of eating bone marrow and meat scraps from large predator kills 4 million years ago. He is the author of two books, one on dry fasting called "The Phoenix Protocol" and one on exercise for preventing sarcopenia and osteopenia titled "Neogenesis." When I was younger, I suffered severe heartburn and ulcers, and I used to take a lot of antacids. Those antacids only helped for a short amount of time, and my symptoms came back within a few hours. I wish I had known what I know now. It's important to understand what causes ulcers and gastritis. For the longest time, it was believed that ulcers were a result of too much stomach acid. However, recent scientific evidence found that Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the leading cause of peptic ulcer formation. While most people are exposed to these microbes, not everyone gets ulcers, as healthy stomach acid levels help destroy H. pylori and prevent infection and associated stomach issues. Taking antacids or histamine blockers to manage gastritis can increase the risk of infection as these drugs lower the stomach's acidity, creating a perfect environment for H. Pylori to thrive. In contrast, zinc carnosine is a highly effective remedy that coats the stomach, increases stomach acid production, and stimulates the production of mucous lining the stomach wall. Zinc is also a potent antibacterial agent, directly inhibiting the growth of H. pylori, which helps prevent and manage ulcers and gastritis. Carnosine, on the other hand, is broken down and converted into superoxide dismutase (SOD), a powerful antioxidant that lowers inflammation. This explains why zinc carnosine is one of the best supplements to promote intestinal health. Consider taking 75 milligrams of zinc carnosine twice daily. Although zinc carnosine is highly effective, it doesn't work immediately and should be taken for one to three months to see results. To find relief from stomach pain, natural remedies such as baking soda or liquid chlorophyll help soothe stomach irritation. DATA: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/...

This patch Is believed to improve strength, flexibility and endurance, which together form the foundation of a robust and active lifestyle. What Is Phototherapy? The practice of phototherapy, which has been around for about 100 years, uses light to improve the health of the body. And modern forms of phototherapy such as Low Level Laser Therapy, which is believed to reduce the appearance wrinkles in the skin, are very well understood scientifically. But this idea is nothing new. As far back as two thousand years ago, the ancient Greeks had a center for studying the effects of different colored lights on the body. Even the ancient Egyptians, who promoted health by focusing sunlight through colored glass on certain areas of the body, understood this concept. No drugs or stimulants
Today, I want to cover the best food to support healing and repair: red meat. Not only does red meat have the most protein, but it also has some other amazing benefits. Other types of protein, like eggs and salmon, are beneficial—but red meat is the best to support healing. Of all the things needed for the repair or healing process, amino acids are among the most important. Red meat is more bioavailable and is a more concentrated source of amino acids than other types of protein. It also contains more iron, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, vitamin K, and omega-3 fatty acids than eggs. This doesn't include processed meat from factory farms. It's crucial to get high-quality grass-fed, grass-finished red meat. Red meat also contains four important additional nutrients for healing, repair, and recovery: 1. Carnitine 2. Creatine 3. Carnosine 4. Coenzyme Q10 People who have difficulty digesting red meat typically have low stomach acid. Even if you don't like the taste of red meat, it may be because you have low stomach acid. Betaine hydrochloride may be beneficial to help strengthen your stomach acid. You can try taking three to five betaine hydrochloride supplements before a meal for about one month. However, if you tend to have excess iron, red meat may not be for you. Instead, you could try consuming more poultry or eggs.

You know it's coming — that familiar pre-workout tingle. It creeps up your neck, sweeps across your face, and dances down your arms. Some people love it, and some don't. But have you ever stopped to wonder what causes that curious sensation? Is it a rash? A negative side effect? Do you have an allergy to pre-workout supplements? Or is there something beneficial about that pre-workout tingle or itch you feel a few minutes after drinking it? In this article, I'll explain what makes you feel flushed and itchy or what gives you the tingles. However, I won't get into whether you should regularly use pre-workout or energy drinks. I did cover whether teens should use pre-workout supplements in the past, but I'll get into the pros and cons of pre-workout supplements at another time. Vasodilation and Nitric Oxide: The Cause of the Pre-Workout Tingle Vasodilation, dilation of your blood vessels, causes the pre-workout tingle. As your blood vessels widen, they allow more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to reach your muscles. The relaxation of blood vessels is a normal and healthy response. You dilate and constrict your blood vessels to regulate blood flow, ensuring that every part of your body, from your brain to your muscles, gets the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Vasodilation plays a significant role during physical activity. When you exercise, your muscles need more oxygen to produce energy. At the heart of this process is a molecule called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide signals the smooth muscle in your blood vessels to relax, causing them to expand.Förstermann, U., & Sessa, W. C. (2012). Nitric oxide synthases: regulation and function. European heart journal, 33(7), 829-837. Nitric oxide also signals the blood vessels in your muscles to expand, increasing blood flow and allowing more oxygen to reach your working muscles. Various factors can reduce nitric oxide production, including aging, poor diet, lack of physical activity, and certain health conditions like diabetes and heart disease. When nitric oxide levels decrease, it can lead to a condition known as endothelial dysfunction.Toda, N., & Okamura, T. (2013). The pharmacology of nitric oxide in the peripheral nervous system of blood vessels. Pharmacological reviews, 55(2), 271-324. The endothelium is the inner lining of your blood vessels. It plays a critical role in maintaining vascular health. Endothelial dysfunction leads to vasoconstriction — the narrowing of blood vessels. This reduces blood flow, leading to high blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues.Lundberg, J. O., Weitzberg, E., & Gladwin, M. T. (2008). The nitrate–nitrite–nitric oxide pathway in physiology and therapeutics. Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, 7(2), 156-167. So, even though vasodilators have become extremely popular in pre-workout supplements, they also play an essential role in maintaining cardiovascular health for those who've developed heart disease. Compounds That Trigger the Pre-Workout Tingle Today, beta-alanine is the most popular vasodilator for pre-workout supplements, but other vasodilators exist. I'll briefly explain each. Beta-Alanine Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that, when ingested, combines with histidine to form carnosine. Carnosine acts as a buffer, delaying the onset of muscle fatigue and enhancing your performance. However, when beta-alanine binds to nerve receptors, it can cause a sensation known as paresthesia (par·es·the·si·a) — the infamous pre-workout tingle or a feeling like you're getting poked with pins and needles. A systematic review published in the journal Amino Acids examined 15 studies on beta-alanine. The authors found that beta-alanine supplementation improved performance in high-intensity exercises lasting 1-4 minutes by 2.85%.Hobson, R. M., Saunders, B., Ball, G., Harris, R. C., & Sale, C. (2012). Effects of β-alanine supplementation on exercise performance: a meta-analysis. Amino acids, 43(1), 25-37.

P., Eckhardt, M., Wolfs, E., Vanmierlo, T., Hellings, N., Eijnde, B. O., Derave, W. Abstract: Multiple sclerosis (MS) pathology features autoimmune-driven neuroinflammation, demyelination, and failed remyelination. Carnosine is a histidine-containing dipeptide (HCD) with pluripotent homeostatic properties that is able to improve outcomes in an animal MS model (EAE) when supplied exogenously. To uncover if endogenous carnosine is involved in, and protects against, MS-related neuroinflammation, demyelination or remyelination failure, we here studied the HCD-synthesizing enzyme carnosine synthase (CARNS1) in human MS lesions and two preclinical mouse MS models (EAE, cuprizone). We demonstrate that due to its presence in oligodendrocytes, CARNS1 expression is diminished in demyelinated MS lesions and mouse models mimicking demyelination/inflammation, but returns upon remyelination. Carns1-KO mice that are devoid of endogenous HCDs display exaggerated neuroinflammation and clinical symptoms during EAE, which could be partially rescued by exogenous carnosine treatment. Worsening of the disease appears to be driven by a central, not peripheral immune-modulatory, mechanism possibly linked to impaired clearance of the reactive carbonyl acrolein in Carns1-KO mice. In contrast, the presence of CARNS1 and endogenous HCDs does not protect against cuprizone-induced demyelination, and is not required for normal oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation and (re)myelin to occur. Exogenously administered carnosine is not effective in blunting demyelination or accelerating remyelination. In conclusion, we show that CARNS1 is diminished in demyelinated MS lesions, which may have detrimental effects on disease progression through weakening the endogenous protection against neuroinflammation. Quercitin circumin, egcg, Zinc vitamin D What's the basis of the Kaufmann Protocol? For every anti-aging agent I've identified, I've created a numerical system that rates it on a 0 to 3 scale for each of the seven categories of cell aging in the order I've already listed. For example, resveratrol and its more bioavailable cousin, pterostilbene, hits every category, carrying a Kaufmann Rating score of 2.3.3.3.2.2 for a total of 15. Carnosine, a dipeptide, has a Kaufmann Rating of 0.3.0.0.0.0.3 for six points. There are also beneficial epigenetic modifiers, such as sulforaphane, resveratrol and curcumin. So you can affect your genes positively by eating good things. What are metabolic pathways and how do they influence aging? Moving on to mitochondria…why do you call these little power stations "a necessary evil?" Fortunately, there are several things that can help the mitochondria out: astaxanthin, curcumin, quercetin, resveratrol or pterostilbene, and nicotinamide. When too many mitochondria are damaged, energy production drops, which affects all of the other categories and is why old people tend to feel tired a lot. You'll also learn the following... The author of one of my all-time favorite books recently released her second book, which was like Christmas coming early for me! Luckily, I had also met her before at an anti-aging conference and we have stayed in touch throughout the years. So I knew I had to Dr. Sandra Kaufmann on The Red Light Report for some amazing conversation about anti-aging and longevity strategies, especially as it relates to supplements and adjuvants — topics that she is considered a bonafide expert. In her newest book, Aging Solutions, Dr. Kaufmann covers 28 different agents that she has found to be the most efficacious and backed by science, according to her rigorous research. We cover many agents from both of her books along with Dr. Kaufmann's skincare routine and other longevity hacks she as implemented over the years, including red light therapy!Dr. Sandra Kaufmann began her academic career in the field of cellular biology, earning a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut in Tropical Ecology and Plant Physiology. Turning to medicine, she received her medical Degree at the University of Maryland, and completed a residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins in the field of pediatric anesthesiology. She has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital for 9 years, a nationally recognized center of excellence.Dr. Kaufmann's avid interest in the science of anti-aging begun many years ago as an intense hobby. Utilizing her knowledge in cell biology, human pharmacology and physiology, this hobby has now become a main focus. The project represents years of non-clinical research leading to the first ever, comprehensive theory of aging. She has now released two books on longevity: The Kaufmann Protocol: Why We Age and How to Stop it, and just recently in 2022, Aging Solutions. This conversation could have easily gone on for hours and hours, as Dr. Kaufmann is a wealth of knowledge in some of my favorite topics and is fun to listen and learn from. Dr. James DiNicolantonio shares amazing tips about how salt, hydration and sauna strategies can help improve strength and exercise performance. Support your Exercise Performance with the new Electrolyte Stix by MYOXCIENCE Nutrition: Save with code podcast at checkout Get Jame's New book Win: Time Stamps 03:15 Maintain your muscle and cardiovascular health through exercise. Reduce the risk of sarcopenia with resistance training, 30 – 60 min 3 – 4 times per week. Running at 60 – 70% of your max heartrate boosts your endurance. HIIT or super maximal interval training 2 – 3 times per week helps your cardiovascular system. 07:10 Preloading with salt and fluids is 10 to 20 times better than other supplements. Dosing salt correctly, allows you to exercise up to 20 minutes longer. Beta alanine allow you to vigorously exercise 1 to 2 minutes longer. 07:40 The main benefit from preloading with salt and fluids is from the boost in blood volume prior to vigorous exercise. You have an 8 to 10% drop in blood volume within 5 minutes of vigorous exercise. The biggest adaptation during vigorous endurance exercise is the attempt to increase baseline blood volume. 08:54 Elite athletes have a 40% increase in blood volume over typical males and females. High doses of salt and fluids should be reserved for just prior to competition. 10:32 Dehydration acclimation, inducing mild amounts of dehydration multiple times, can help build blood volume. 12:05 Before a typical workout, you can ingest 1,000 mg of sodium and 10 to 16 ounces of fluid. High levels used for competition would be 3,000 to 4,300 mg of sodium and about 26 ounces to 33.8 ounces of fluid. This matches to saltiness of your blood. 13:40 Increased blood volume increases cardiac output, decreases oxygen demand on the heart and gives you a larger volume to dissipate heat. We lose blood volume to sweat. You can better pull waste from your cells and better deliver nutrients. 15:30 Sauna therapy is similar in metabolic adaptations to dehydration therapy. When you become heat activated, your baseline core body temperature becomes lower. You have a larger pool to soak up heat. You can train and perform longer before the enzymes that produce ATP start shutting down. 16:05 When you are heat activated, your sweat becomes more dilute. You lose fewer electrolytes. The diluted sweat evaporates faster, so your cool faster. 16:34 To become heat activated, you need to do a sauna session every day for 2 weeks or so, raising your core body temperature to 101.3 and maintain it for 20 to 30 minutes. You can go as few as 4 days per week, but it will take you longer to achieve being heat activated. The benefits of doing this will last as long as 2 weeks, as long as you maintain a good exercise program. 18:57 Endurance exercisers with large blood volumes typically have good blood pressure. As long as your arteries vasodilate well, and you do not have increased vasoconstriction with increased blood volume, you should not see an increase in blood pressure. 20:07 Body temperature is highly influenced by circadian biology. Post exercise sauna for 13 sessions, improves performance by about 10%. 23:28 Postpone your cold plunge for 2 to 4 hours after exercise, if your goal is hypertrophy. Sooner than that inhibits some of your muscle size and strength gains from exercise. Elite athletes plunge directly after exercise to limit inflammation and accelerate recovery. 26:55 Exercise timing is individual and depends upon whether you are a morning person or a night owl. About 8 hours after you wake up is typically when you perform at your best. Your cognition is shot for a few hours after vigorous exercise. Exercise close to bedtime impacts your ability to go to sleep. 29:20 Avoid caffeine at least 6 hours before bedtime. 31:48 If you are a vegetarian, you are not getting many nutrients found in red meat. Carnitine is important for fat oxidation for fuel. Carnosine is an advanced glycation end product inhibitor and buffers acid produced during exercise. Beta alanine boosts carnosine levels. Taurine is an amino acid that helps with blood pressure, blood flow, antioxidant status in the central nervous system. 33:45 Red meat is more nutrient dense than chicken. Pork is 10 times higher in thiamine (vitamin B1). Consume liver (for vitamin A and copper) and heart (for coQ10) on a fairly consistent basis. Many of us are deficient in vitamin A and copper and anemia is driven by this. 35:10 Creatine improves cognition. 50% of methylation is for the creation of creatine in your body. Supplementing frees up that effort for you body. 36:35 Supplementing 3 to 5 grams of creatine per day brings most benefits. Eating red meat may not get you to that level. 37:20 The more hydrated your muscle is, the better blood flow, oxygen delivery and pump you get. Your muscle is about 75% water. Creatine enhances cell hydration. 38:40 Supplementing with creatine at doses of 5 grams per day is completely safe. 39:40 To induce hypertrophy, the key is to go near or to failure. Heavy weight is not necessary. Inositol helps to improve insulin sensitivity, thus preserving muscle mass. 41:51 For prolonged vigorous explosive activity, preloading with carbs improves performance. It helps you to tap your muscle glycogen reserves. There are benefits to training fasted. Metabolic flexibility is when you can burn either fats or carbs. 42:50 It is taxing to force your body to make glucose, rather than ingesting exogenous glucose. 45:00 Longevity populations are generally smaller and have less muscle mass than Americans, so they can get away with lower protein intake. Our needs are higher. 46:42 Exercise improves insulin sensitivity. Insulin resistance chronically elevates mTOR. 48:40 Elevated LDL (outside of genetic influences) is not a risk factor for increasing heart disease, in the face of good insulin sensitivity, low triglycerides, and good HDL. 49:30 Oxidized LDL is a contributor to heart disease. The amount of linoleic acid in LDL influences oxidation. Eating heart for ubiquinol and eating high quality meat for carotenoids, helps to protect LDL from oxidation. Increasing olive oil consumption increases monounsaturated fats in LDL, decreasing susceptibility to oxidation. 51:30 When you replace animal fats with vegetable oils, there is an increase in all-cause mortality. LPa is a functional marker of oxidation, with elevated LDL. 55:05 Salt intake recommendations are based upon expert opinion, not clinical evidence, or meta-analysis. Lowering salt intake barely lowers blood pressure. Some may have an increase in blood pressure with the decrease of salt intake. Decreases in blood pressure from reducing salt is from depleting blood volume. Stress hormones increase. 56:00 When you go below 3000 mg of sodium, all the stress hormones increase. Insulin resistance increases as well. 3000 to 5000 mg of sodium is associated with the least amount of rise in stress hormones and the lowest amount of risk of cardiovascular disease.

In Episode 2, I take a solo deep dive into what the current body of research says about the effectiveness of supplementing beta-alanine for endurance athletes. I tried beta-alanine for the first time in early 2021 and the results were pretty remarkable. I have taken various supplements in the past, but none could compare to the noticeable results I experienced through supplementing beta-alanine. Off the Front Podcast is presented by LMNT. Dr. Ben Lynch discusses more about histamine, gut health and why gallbladder issues are so common and tips to optimize. We also look at gene testing and why considering clusters of interrelated genes and their associated networks instead of myopically focusing on one good or bad gene variant is much more useful for determining your health weaknesses and strengths. Support your Sleep and Electrolyte levels with Myo Relax by MYOXCIENCE Nutrition: http://bit.ly/2HgCPOs Save with code: Podcast Test your genes with StrateGene: http://bit.ly/strategene Save with code HIH Link to Books and Full Notes: https://bit.ly/3B8reeE Key Takeaways: 06:23 Genetic testing identifies a potential susceptibility to health and mental health complications. It is one of many tools. 06:50 Dirty Genes book is full of quizzes which identifies genetic issues without doing genetic testing. 07:45 Lifestyle habits are passed down through generations, so issues may not be caused by genes. 08:35 Less than 5% of cancers are heritable. Only 1% of Parkinson's is genetic. 09:25 Conventional medicine using pharmacological interventions are by force. Naturopathic and functional medicine is nurture and restorative, with an appreciation for the biochemical network. 10:50 Look at genes in a wholistic way. There are about 18,000 genes in our bodies. 12:10 A single variant is minuscule compared to the other 18,000 genes communicating. And there are many other variables that make studying a single variant complicated. For example, is the study subject sleeping in a hot or cold room, mouth breathing, has a sleep partner snoring, and loaded with stress? It appears as though epigenetics overrides the majority of other provocations. 13:40 You must look at the research with a wholistic view. Look at many studies. 14:35 You do not need genetic testing. Listen to how your body is feeling and give those areas in need more love, attention, and protection. 16:12 Some genes are highly influenced by epigenetics and others are not. Sometimes is it a matter of workload for the gene. 18:00 If you have the MTHFR variant, you are less likely to die from malaria. You may have a reduced ability to methylate folate, but methylfolate can be found in leafy green vegetables and animal livers. 20:40 At some point, mutated genes helped your ancestors survive. Our genes are adapting to our new environment, and we are passing this on to our kids. 23:20 Dr. Lynch had to choose 7 genes out of 18,000 for the book. He chose MTHFR because it effects the entire genome. Two glutathione genes were chosen because oxidative stress effects the entire genome. 24:00 CMT and MAOA were chosen for their impact upon brain function. 24:30 DAO works on histamine metabolism in the gut, which can cause leaky gut. 25:00 PEMT: Solid cell membranes create cell membranes and create storage for histamine and your neurotransmitters. This phosphatidyl choline synthesizing gene highly polymorphic. 26:45 Nitric oxide is important for emergent heart issues. 26:50 By focusing on supporting these 7 genes, you are positively influencing all of your genes. 28:45 Phosphatidyl choline keeps your bile from being thick and sludgy. You need 10 parts phosphatidyl choline to one part cholesterol to have your bile flow. 30:23 If you are an obese woman in your 40s and still fertile, you will struggle with a gallbladder issue, especially if you have a PEMT variant. The primary stone in the gallbladder is formed from cholesterol. It stems from fatty liver. 32:44 The phosphatidyl choline supplement is used to improve bile flow, but since it is a lipid, it cannot be fully absorbed to improve bile flow. With PEMT variant, reduce consumption of fats and reduce the workload on that gene. 33:45 Visceral manipulation is a near instant fix for bile flow. It is massage to compress your liver. You will have an amazing bowel movement. Support with herbs that stimulate bile flow and production, like glycine, taurine, bitter herbs, ginger, and artichoke. Then supplement with phosphatidyl choline. 36:00 There is data about bile acids and dysfunctional bile acid signatures in the brain and heart. 36:50 Bile has antimicrobial properties. Taking ox bile at meals to help with fat metabolization. Ox bile taken between meals gets into your small intestine to kill off overgrowth bacteria. Maybe take it with a little charcoal. Bacteria release gasses and compounds that cause issue when they die and break open. Binding these is important. 38:28 Acid reflux is bile coming through a leaky pyloric sphincter. 39:10 The StrateGene test for neurotransmitters looks at the reduction, transport, binding to the receptor and the synthesis/metabolism of key neurotransmitters. 41:20 Pesticides slow the HTR1B gene. They bind to the serotonin receptor. 42:00 The metabolism of neurotransmitters can be fast, typical or slow. Many medications target the reuptake of neurotransmitters to keep it in the brain, rather than have it reabsorbed. 43:00 Many of us who take SSRIs get no effect because they have no or too little serotonin in the brain for the medication to work with. 43:30 5-HTP is a primary precursor to serotonin. The DEC gene converts 5-HTP to serotonin, uses vitamin B-6. 48:20 Sleep is associated with serotonin. Serotonin is converted to your melatonin. Taking supplemental melatonin may mean that serotonin is still in your brain, producing a “wired and tired” feeling. 50:55 Adderall and Ritalin are addictive amphetamines. Amphetamines block the reuptake of dopamine. Harm can be done with higher doses of amphetamines when we already have a slow ability to remove dopamine from the brain. 53:50 Medications can be useful as an intermittent intervention. Many times, non-pharmaceutical interventions can be used strategically with genetic testing. 55:05 Ritalin is toxic to the brain because it keeps so much dopamine in the brain, making dopamine quinone. Three toxic compounds are produced when you break down dopamine. 58:40 We think that Parkinson's is a low dopamine state, so patients are prescribed L-dopa. L-dopa may have been the reason their brain was toxic to begin with from a messed up MTHFR. 59:15 Supplementing with dopamine hastens the destruction of the Parkinson's brain. Parkinson's is a damaged state due to a pro-oxidative environment in the brain, possibly due to more elevated dopamine or a trapping of some of the toxic metabolites of dopamine in the brain. 01:01:17 Quinones are highly reactive and hard to calm and neutralize. Glutathione does not neutralize a reactive quinone. PQQ is helpful. Carnosine is also helpful and rapidly metabolized by carnosinase and converted into histamine and histidine. N-acetyl carnosine keeps carnosine in circulation longer. It is protective of the brain and is also used in eye drops for cataracts. 01:05:20 Eye health/function is an indicator of brain health. Your eyes contain the most mitochondria per density of any organ or body part. Eyes use a lot of oxygen and requires a lot of glutathione and other antioxidants for support.
The amino acid carnosine offers powerful support for various systems within the body, including the brain and muscles. Learn about the importance of this unique dipeptide from Amanda Williams, MPH. Video: https://youtu.be/x5pnsSMx6A0 LactiGo Discount Code: Brendan20. Let me cut to the chase: LACTIGO IS LEGIT. It is nothing like AMP PR Lotion. More on that below. When we go hard, we undergo glycolysis to produce energy. One of the big byproducts of this process is the production of hydrogen ions which creates acidity in our bodies (that burn when you’re dropping the hammer!) This burn is the hydrogen ions, not lactic acid. Said differently, if you’re wondering how to prevent lactic acid or lactic acid build up, you’re really wanting to understand the reduction of hydrogen ions in the bloodstream. Sodium bicarbonate is used to buffer hydrogen ions in the blood. Carnosine is a sponge that soaks up free hydrogen ions and binds them. Carnosine buffers hydrogen ions in the cells, meaning it actually has a greater effect at reducing the burning sensation that we feel. Carnosine is one of the first thing that balances the acid, and this happens in the cells, before it is in the bloodstream. Once it’s in the bloodstream, sodium bicarbonate can go to work. Summary: LactiGo goes to work on reducing the burning feeling well before AMP PR Lotion does. You feel less burn with Lactigo and the muscles can work harder. I f you’ve used sodium bicarbonate products, you know how messy, thick, and gunky they are. LactiGo gel absorbs and dries on your skin within minutes. No thick paste on your legs. It’s so much cleaner and easier to use than other products on the market. It delivers carnosine to the muscles through the skin on your FIRST application. We’ll get into this below. LactiGo deliver carnosine directly to your muscles, which has been shown to improve aerobic and anaerobic athletic performance. You can produce more work at a similar metabolic load, and this higher workload will provide you with more adaptation at the workload. Do more work, get stronger on the bike. Carnosine will improve not only your anaerobic power (sprinting, hard 1 minute max efforts, bridging gaps, etc), but also your aerobic power at VO2Max, Functional Threshold Power (FTP), and endurance for long rides. You will fatigue slower and increase your Time To Exhaustion. LactiGO has figured out how to apply the lotion and have the carnosine enter the muscle within 45 minutes of application, so you no longer need to go through the 8 week loading phase with Beta Alanine. My personal review of AMP: mixed. Some days it felt like like a little benefit, other days, none. I’ve used it on some really hard intervals, and didn’t have an increase in watts or feel any better than if I didn’t use AMP. The consistency of AMP Human PR Lotion is also somewhat annoying to deal with. I’m kneading the bottle to try and make sure it’s all mixed up, and sometimes you just get too much sodium bicarbonate, sometimes it’s too much of the liquid carrier. One you put it on, well, you’re hands are a mess. Hopefully you have a towel nearby or a sink to wash your hands. When you’re riding, you’ll see the sodium bicarbonate runs down your legs sometimes. Just picking up more road junk as we smash. IDK, not a huge fan of AMP Human PR Lotion. Your Lactigo Discount Code is Brendan20. How To Apply LactiGo One LactiGo bottle covers around 10 full-body applications. For cycling, I use 10 pumps total, covering my ankles, calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes. Apply LactiGo directly to the desired muscles 45 minutes before your activity, workout, or competition. Apply another round of LactiGo after your activity to further aid in muscle recovery.
Throughout the aging process, there are certain enzymes, amino acids, neurotransmitters, and pathways that start to diminish in terms of their normal activity. So, what can we do to replenish them? There is one di-peptide called Carnosine that can greatly benefit our cells. Take advantage of an exclusive podcast offer today by visiting www.invitehealth.com/podcast or by clicking here. On this episode of humanOS Radio, Dan speaks with Brad Dieter. Brad has a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Idaho, and did further training in biomedical research examining how metabolism and inflammation regulate molecular mechanisms of disease. He is a scientist, a coach, an entrepreneur, a writer, and a speaker, so he wears a lot of different hats. Brad has been leading research behind transdermal delivery of carnosine. Carnosine is a buffer of acidosis in skeletal muscle, and exercise trials have shown that higher levels of carnosine in muscle can help delay the onset of fatigue during exercise associated with acidosis and enable athletes to work longer at a high intensity. But oral supplemental methods of boosting carnosine - such as beta-alanine - can be cumbersome and time-consuming. You have to take relatively large, divided doses every day for up to 4-6 weeks before you see a benefit. To that end, he helped with the research and development of LactiGo, the first effective topical carnosine product for humans. LactiGo is a fast-acting gel which delivers carnosine to skeletal muscle through the skin, and tests of this product are pretty persuasive. In one double-blind pilot study, elite soccer players were able to cross the finish line up to 5.9 feet sooner when running the 40 yard dash. And this was just after a single application of the product! To learn more about how carnosine works, and about LactiGo, check out the interview!

I recently read the book . It is the first comprehensive approach to aging that tackles why we age, and then recommends a strategic, scientific formulation to decelerate the process. The book brings practical information to everyday people, and takes the science of aging out of the laboratory and into the real world. The first half of The Kaufmann Protocol discusses aging on a cellular level, which separates it from all other anti-aging fads. We age because our cells age and it is this understanding that allows the protocol to combat aging for people from all walks of life. This is presented in terms of the seven tenets, or categories, of aging which comprise topics such as DNA alterations, mitochondrial energy, and aging pathways. These are explained in both scientific and laymen terms, such that anyone can understand the process. A series of analogies paralleling the cell to a factory assist the reader in following the logic. The second half of the book reviews the top fifteen molecular agents that curb the aging process. Each agent is examined, discussed and then rated in terms of the seven categories, thus granting it a Kaufmann Rating number. This number is essentially a snapshot of its anti-aging properties, and allows the reader to create a regimen to fit their personal needs. Alternatively, the book suggests the most common protocol, the PANACEA, which is a combination of five molecular agents. This regimen is fantastic for most people over the age of 40, but it certainly is not comprehensive. With the tools and knowledge presented in this book, the reader can determine what is best for them as individuals. This book is also meant to be a complimentary addition to the which will allow the user to track their progress and stay up to date with all of the new scientific findings that will continue to make aging truly optional. Dr. Sandra Kaufmann began her academic career in the field of cellular biology, earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut in Tropical Ecology and Plant Physiology. Turning to medicine, she received her medical Degree at the University of Maryland, and completed a residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins in the field of pediatric anesthesiology. For the last seven years she has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, a nationally recognized center of excellence. Her avid interest in the science of anti-aging begun many years ago as an intense hobby. Utilizing her knowledge in cell biology, human pharmacology and physiology, this hobby has now become a main focus. The Kaufmann Protocol represents years of non-clinical research leading the first ever, comprehensive theory of aging, complete with an explanation of why we age and the tools to decelerate the process. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Dr. Kaufmann, a pediatrician, became interested in longevity and anti-aging... She became interested in it simply because she wanted to enjoy her life as long as possible After reading and researching, she realized there was no overarching theory, nor a comprehensive system on anti-aging and longevity Aubrey de Grey's -Dr. Kaufmann's 7 Tenets of aging... Information Systems (DNA) Cellular Energy (Mitochondria, NAD) Cellular Pathways (AMP Kinase and mTOR system) Quality Control (autophagy) Security System (Immune system) fails for 3 reasons: Unable to fight infection over time Cells become cancerous over time Upregulates systemic inflammation Work Force (Individual Cells) Short acting cells (few hours to a few days) Goldilocks cells (1-12 years) Cells that live forever Senescent vs. quiescent cells Quiescent is reversible, a state of repair Senescent is partially repaired; damaged but still of some use Waste Management (AGE's, lipofusion) -The numerical ratings system Dr. Kaufmann created based on the 7 Tenets of aging... Ratings are from 0-3 (0 being of no value, 3 being highly efficacious) Criteria to determine efficacy: Does it work in theory Does it work in a test tube Does it work in a small rodent lab Does it work in humans It gives people an educated guide to make decisions for themselves -How the app Dr. Kaufmann created helps people understand their genetics and longevity... Her work began as a hobby, yet more and more people came to her seeking a protocol; the app was created to help as many people as possible The app experience Starts out with a quiz Asks if you want a standard protocol or if you want to build your own It follows you every day Rates exercise and foods -The most overhyped yet least effective ingredients, as well as the most effective... The least effective Vitamin E; astaxanthin and delphinidin are more potent alternatives Co enzyme Q Fish oils Use and for superb vision The most effective: -Pterostilbene: Why is it so great?... Epigenetic modifier Very strong free radical scavenger Increases activity of endogenous antioxidants Activates your sirtuins Activates AMP kinase Caloric restriction mimetic (tells your body you're starving when you're not) Increases DNA repair mechanisms Increases autophagy Similar chemically but more potent than Resveratrol -Why Astaxanthin is the bomb... is Dr. Kaufmann's favorite brand (edible sunscreen) Increases exercise capacity It's not a supplement because there is no endogenous astaxanthin in our system -The magical attributes of Carnosine... Gets into your muscle and is a buffer (don't get the burn) Transglycosylating agent; blocks formation of AGE products Men have more than women, and young people have more than old people Can only get it from muscle -Dr. Kaufmann's thoughts on the latest research regarding Metformin and its hampering of mitochondrial response to exercise... It uncouples mitochondria and electron transport chain; becomes less efficient May not be the best for an athlete (unless you take it at night) Everything is "best guess" when it comes to dosing for anti-aging Take branch chain aminos Decreases absorption of B Vitamins -Dr. Kaufmann's anti-aging lifestyle beyond the supplements and compounds discussed thus far... In this week's podcast, we discuss the athletic benefits of the carnivore diet, including the high protein content of an all-meat diet as well as the naturally occurring peptides, carnosine and creatine, found in meat which promote increased performance. Meat contains bioavailable and easily-absorbed essential fatty acids, including the omega 3's, EPA and DHA, which are only found in animal sources. Meat contains all 9 essential amino acids as well as the conditionally essential amino acids Conditionally Essentially amino acids Arginine Glycine Proline Glutamine Tyrosine Serine Cysteine - Methionine is precursor Taurine - Methionine is precursor Carnosine Benefits Carnosine as a buffer "Carnosine exhibits excellent buffering capacity at physiological pH values: concentrations of carnosine are such that they can provide up to 40% of the pH-buffering capacity of skeletal muscle." This ability of carnosine allows you to workout harder for longer. What is it? Carnosine (beta-alanine-histidine) is a dipeptide, a binding of the amino acids, alanine and histidine, a non-enzymatic free radical scavenger and a natural antioxidant. Only found in animal products, mainly muscle meat. In our bodies, it's found mainly in skeletal muscle. But it’s also found in high concentrations in the brain and heart-locations that have a high energy demand. Amount of carnosine in food: Turkey Pectoral: 530mg/100g, 2400mg/lb Pork: 460mg/100g, 2000mg/lb Beef: 380mg/100g, 1700mg/lb Website: https://tntwellnessandnutrition.com/category/tnt-wellness-and-nutrition-podcast/ Email: tntwellnessandnutrition@gmail.com Itunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/tnt-wellness-and-nutrition-podcast/id1428217037?mt=2 SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-422365757-83307870 Social Media Links Twitter:https://twitter.com/tnt_wellness Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/tntwellnessandnutrition/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/tntwellnessandnutrition/
Dr. Anthony Jay Returns To Talk About The Carnivore Diet and His Carnivore Study: Are you a true Carnivore, are you ready to commit to a 100% Carnivore Study?! Dr. Anthony G. Jay PhD returns for another health podcast episode. He’s definitely a healthy influencer when it comes to DNA, genetic research, and the ability to analyze your 23andMe health data. You can learn about on that from our past podcast episode 177: My 23andMe Supplement Health DNA Analysis with Dr. Anthony Jay (https://livethefuel.com/177-23andme-dna-analysis-anthony-jay/) . Dr. Jay has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and he researches stem cells and epigenetics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is also the president of the “Estrogeneration: How Estrogenics Are Making You Fat, Sick, and Infertile.” (https://amzn.to/2PQoMom) On This Episode You Will Hear:[spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction [spp-timestamp time="03:00"] The Glutathione component is a necessary supplement to aid my body in its detoxicification process is that accurate? Yeah for you specifically it's more important than normal. It clears heavy metals and it clears just a lot of different products that you know are toxic like you said and just the fact that your body's not producing as much as it should as much as a normal person based on your DNA. [spp-timestamp time="05:30"] Dr. Jay just got a new on reverse osmosis filter system and stainless steel tank. It's a tankless reverse osmosis which is kind of cool. Most of them have like a plastic storage tank where they keep the water. [spp-timestamp time="11:30"] Something called Carnosine. Actually plants don't make Carnosine. You can't find if you're a pure vegetarian, you're not eating any Carnosine. So let's, let's dive into this right. So we're talking about Carnivore now. [spp-timestamp time="12:15"] I think there's so much science we just don't know you know, most people think that that we were so far along in science we just know everything but I really don't. When you run these mass spectroscopy studies, there's thousands of different compounds. In reality, there's probably thousands of different things we're getting when we're consuming meat and we're consuming them in a balanced form, and not some isolated one substance form and that is supplementation. [spp-timestamp time="15:00"] Telomere tests, your telmore age, and carnivore mascot, Dr. Shawn Baker. [spp-timestamp time="16:13"] I respect people's lifestyle choices. I respect their faiths , I don't talk about religion on this show. If you choose a vegan lifestyle because of your love of animals, okay, I get it, but then just make sure you are aware that you better supplement the heck out of that lifestyle because it is not a 100% lifestyle. We are naturally omnivores. Great book, omnivores dilemma is a classic first thing I ever learned about the word on the board from and again, I'm a huge advocate. [spp-timestamp time="17:00"] A lot of people on the Carnivore Diet are super zealous about it too. I think the zealots are difficult because they're not really open to what's good. They're just picking a side and they're sticking to it, no matter what. They don't really care about the logic or the arguments. I mean, you can find that pretty much anywhere, but it seems to be super concentrated in the vegan community, it is not every vegan, but definitely there's a lot of them out there that are really social media trolls. [spp-timestamp time="18:40"] I've become a advocate for moving on from the word diet. Vinnie Tortorich cares a lot about with his whole NSNG Lifestyle. Trademarking his No Sugars No Grains as this not a diet it's a lifestyle. So I'm intrigued that if once you progress through this research, we could finally bring it to the point where this is a lifestyle. Diet, thanks to magazines and bro-science has become a short-term mental thing. The psychology piece here is like guys, we're trying to...
This episode answers questions related to color blindness, diabetes-related vision loss, uveitis, dry and wet macular degeneration, Irwin Gass Syndrome, eye inflammation, eye drops for dry eyes, and eye drops for glaucoma. Question 1 1:00 - 4:51 In all the newsletters I've read from you, I've never seen color blindness addressed. Would you please do something about that condition? My stepson just tried the Enchroma glasses to see if they could help his color blindness at all, which they didn't. Not being able to determine color has affected what jobs he can undertake. Thanks so much! Question 2 4:51 - 11:30 My husband has diabetes he has lost vision in one eye. His other eye macula is swelling now has a cataract in his eye the one that is swelling. What product do you think will help his eyes? Question 3 11:30 - 19:31 Is there anything you can do for Uveitis? My daughter has the one that is in the back of the eye. She has it in both eyes but one is affected more than the other. Question 4 19:31 - 26:53 My left eye has gone from dry macular degeneration to wet, I am taking all related supplements, + Acupuncture have had my 1st eye injection. Do you have any additional thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. Question 5 26:55 - 33:23 Tell me more about treatment for Irwin Gass Syndrome. I had cataract surgery on right eye May 22 and left eye on June 5. My eye surgeon and my retinal specialist tells me this is self-limiting and will go away. They both recommend a NSAID eye drop three times a day and a steroid eye drop twice a day. The retinal specialist says it is difficult for the drops to penetrate to back of eye and the surface of retina. He suggested low dose NSAID tablet daily. I take warfarin tablet daily for atrial fib. so, I would prefer not to use NSAID tablets. I am a retired pharmacist and believe in functional medicine and nutrient therapy. I use your MSM eye drops 15% twice a day, and take an eye vitamin with a formula like yours. I am thinking about Glutathione liposomal oral therapy to aid in healing. I have used the Carnosine drops prior to my eye surgeries for two years. I have some left but stop using after the surgery. I follow the post cataract eye exercises and sunning exercises daily. Thanks for your suggestions. Question 6 33:25 - 38:25 I have Graves' disease, since 08/2017, and thyroid eye disease (TED) since 02/2018. I've had double vision which has greatly improved and little to no eye pain, I do have inflammation / puffiness under both eyes which fluctuates from day to day; and that puffiness is softer / not as firm now. For the TED I was on a 12-week round of prednisone, 500 mg for 6 weeks and 250 mg for 6 weeks; and just completed a 16-day taper of 10 mg prednisone. That surgeon wants me to get radiation therapy and / or bone removal surgery from behind my eyes; neither of which I'm interested in. What eye drops and / or supplements would you suggest? Thank you. Question 7 38:25 - 42:50 I am on restasis for dry eyes, can I use the MSM drops also? Thank you. Question 8 42:50 - 44:00 Are there alternatives to the prescription drops I am using for glaucoma?

This week’s guest is Dr. Mike T Nelson, exercise physiologist, trainer, speaker and all around expert on the human body. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to Mike on a variety of topics related to human performance and gait in the past, and have also gotten a lot out of the many podcasts where he has talked about nutrition and specifically, metabolic flexibility, or the balance between the body’s ability to use fats or carbohydrates for fuel. The majority of the guests I have on the podcast are coaches in the speed and power realm, but I strongly believe that to be a great coach (not just a good coach), you must be familiar with all facets of performance, such as nutrition, basic physiology, recovery and psychology. If we spend all our effort splitting hairs over exercise and periodization concepts, we miss out on a vast world of global performance enhancers. Some common nutrition questions for athletes that come up frequently are things like: How much protein should I be having? What should my breakfast be like for muscle growth? How do I recover faster from my workouts? In many cases, athletes end up making nutrition decisions on their own based on what their friends are doing, or the ad they saw on the internet, which is unfortunate when a little education on the part of their coaches could really make a big difference in recovery and performance. It is for this reason that I’m really excited to have Mike T Nelson on the show today. We’ll be talking on a variety of nutrition and physiological concepts that have application to any coach or athlete. Mike also does a great job breaking it down to a point where we can easily understand and apply the information. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points: Mike’s background in exercise physiology Lactate as a fuel and discussion on its’ potential effect on anabolism, as well as fat loss The role of cortisol in athletic performance Optimal breakfast strategies for athletic performance Peri-workout and nutrient timing ideas for strength seeking athletes Dissecting the concept of “Muscle-full” and the body’s ability to utilize only 20-30g of protein every few hours The importance of leucine for protein absorption Metabolic flexibility and how it pertains to athletes and short burst power Exogenous ketones, ketosis and it’s role for speed and power athletes Quotes: “At some point if you do high rep work we do know at some point, the muscle contraction is impeded. You have the production of hydrogen ions, and the production of lactate. Lactate is an extremely good fuel.” “Growth hormone is related to the use of fat as a fuel…. It doesn’t do anything for muscle metabolism” “Carnosine at a high enough level is what starts buffering hydrogen ions (hydrogen ion buildup is responsible for fatigue, while lactate is fuel)” “People are really addicted to that sensation of fatigue, that’s what they’ve neurologically associated with success; they’ll continue to go the fatigue seeking pathway, rather than the performance pathway” “Stress is associated with cortisol release and for a very good reason, because our bodies are wired for survival” “In my opinion, you want low levels of cortisol generally, you don’t want it to go to zero; Bodybuilders played with some drugs in the 1980’s that dropped their cortisol production to zero, and it was a horrible thing from a health and performance standpoint” “During training, in my biased opinion, you want cortisol to go up super high; when training is done, you want it to go down sooner, rather than later” “(In terms of mitigating cortisol post workout) After your training is done, do some PRI, 90-90 breathing, or belly breathing.
