Seth and Sean dive into John Smoltz's take on the coming retirement of many generational starting pitchers over the next few years, and drops a name we were not expecting. Then they assess if they'd be on board for this particular name returning to the Astros.
Seth and Sean lend some context to Shedeur Sanders' Mt. Rushmore, circle back to Dabo Swinney mixing up Brian Kelly and Brian Kelley, Sean tells his own name mix-up story, they react to John Smoltz dropping a rather odd name when talking about generational pitchers, dive into some of what Texans C Jake Andrews had to say on Texans All Access, and see what Reggie and Lopez have for the question of the day.
In this conversation, Dan Frommer, founder and editor in chief of The New Consumer, discusses the complexities of consumer behavior, particularly in relation to food choices. He explores the dichotomy between what consumers say they want and what they actually purchase, emphasizing the influence of technology, marketing, and generational differences. The discussion also touches on the challenges posed by ultra-processed foods and the importance of real food in promoting health and well-being. Throughout the conversation, Frommer shares insights from his research, highlighting the need for education and understanding in navigating consumer trends.Takeaways:Understanding consumer behavior is crucial for effective marketing. There is often a gap between what consumers say they want and what they actually buy.Food choices are influenced by technology and social media.Generational and gender differences play a significant role in food preferences.Education about food and health is essential for consumers.Surveys can provide valuable insights but have limitations.Real food is preferable to ultra-processed options for health.Trust in institutions is declining, leading consumers to rely on influencers.Personalization in food choices is becoming more important.Gratitude and mindfulness can enhance consumer satisfaction. Sound bites:“The healthiest foods that make people also the happiest are grapes, blueberries, and broccoli.”“Chocolate makes Gen Xers happier than any other product makes any other generation in all our research.”“I'm really interested to see companies finding ways to help people to make food choices that are not only considered smart on a macro level, but are the right thing for them personally.”“Younger people believe that grocers, online grocers especially, have a responsibility to recommend healthy food.”“Ultra-processed foods, a great example of something where people have very strong opinions about it, but don't actually know what they are.”“It's very hard to get Americans to agree on anything, but something that both Democrats and Republicans agree on in our research is that the government should be doing more to regulate ultra processed food than it has in the past.”“There's increasing awareness around seed oils. Some people are convinced that they are toxic and that they are killing Americans and making us all have terrible health. Other people, including scientists, are saying that is nonsense.”“The US is not in a recession, but most people think it is. So what do do about that?”“The people who are buying the cheapest, least environmentally friendly stuff are also the ones who are saying that they are more willing to go out of their way and spend more money for the environment.”“I think if we all just ate more real food, I think that would probably have a better outcome for so many different elements of the food chain of our health, wellness, etc.”Links:Dan Frommer on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/fromedome/The New Consumer - https://newconsumer.com/The New Consumer on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/newconsumer/The New Consumer on X - https://x.com/newconsumerThe New Consumer on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/newconsumerConsumer Trends: Food Feelings Matrix - https://newconsumer.com/2025/05/consumer-trends-food-feelings-healthy-happy/Consumer Trends: Food & Wellness 2025 - https://newconsumer.com/2025/03/introducing-the-consumer-trends-2025-food-wellness-special-report/How Americans really think about seed oils, Poppi & Olipop, and MAHA - https://newconsumer.com/2025/03/how-americans-really-think-about-seed-oils-poppi-olipop-and-maha/Consumer Trends: Beauty Special 2025 - https://newconsumer.com/2025/04/introducing-the-consumer-trends-beauty-special-2025/…Brands for a Better World Episode Archive - http://brandsforabetterworld.com/Brands for a Better World on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/brand-for-a-better-world/Modern Species - https://modernspecies.com/Modern Species on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/modern-species/Gage Mitchell on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/gagemitchell/…Print Magazine Design Podcasts - https://www.printmag.com/categories/printcast/…Heritage Radio Network - https://heritageradionetwork.org/Heritage Radio Network on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/heritage-radio-network/posts/Heritage Radio Network on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HeritageRadioNetworkHeritage Radio Network on X - https://x.com/Heritage_RadioHeritage Radio Network on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/heritage_radio/Heritage Radio Network on Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@heritage_radioChapters:03:00 Understanding Consumer Behavior05:59 Food Feelings: Happiness vs. Health08:58 Gender and Generational Differences in Food Preferences12:10 The Role of Technology in Food Choices15:04 The Impact of Ultra-Processed Foods18:02 Consumer Awareness and Education20:49 The Future of Food Consumption23:58 Cultural Shifts in Food Perception37:13 Raising Awareness on Food Safety38:04 The Complexity of Defining Health39:26 Evolving Perspectives on Nutrition41:01 Influencers vs. Experts in Health42:57 The Fragmentation of Media and Trust47:16 The Debate on Seed Oils48:47 Consumer Behavior vs. Intentions53:14 Using Research Effectively59:10 Personal Insights and Recommendations01:06:10 The Importance of Real FoodSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

As well as a wealth of professional experience, I've also been on my own journey full of financial ups and downs, of trying to achieve what I thought was expected of me, of avoiding the important conversations with those closest to me, and starting, yet again, with all the best of intentions. I want to eliminate the taboo around money and create an environment where people are comfortable talking about their finances and educating their children to do the same." -Kim Uzzell Don't forget about this amazing free offer from Jordan. What does today's housing data tell us about tomorrow's economy? On this episode of REady2Scale, Jeannette Friedrich sits down with Lance Lambert, CEO of Resi Club and former real estate editor at Fortune Magazine, to unpack the real story behind housing inventory levels, affordability pressures, and regional price corrections. From Sunbelt softness to generational shifts in homeownership, Lance offers a grounded, data-informed view of where we stand and where we may be headed. Key Takeaways: Inventory is building, but not fully recovered: Active listings have passed one million for the first time since 2019, though total inventory is still below pre-pandemic norms. The increase is driven more by slower sales than a surge in new supply. Affordability remains a constraint: Home prices grew faster than incomes during the pandemic boom. With mortgage rates still elevated, many homeowners are hesitant or unable to move. Underwater mortgages are highly concentrated: While only about 1% of U.S. mortgages are underwater nationally, pockets in the Sunbelt, like Cape Coral and Austin, show higher risk. These cases are mostly limited to 2022 buyers. Regional bifurcation is widening: Sunbelt markets and parts of the West are softening, while many Midwest and Northeast markets are holding firmer due to tighter supply. The “locked-in” effect is real: Homeowners with low mortgage rates are staying put, reducing turnover. The current level of home sales per capita is at a 40-year low. Generational timing is shifting: The average age of first-time homebuyers is now 38, up from 33 just five years ago, driven by both affordability and lifestyle delays. Builders are feeling the pressure: New construction inventory is at a decade high, and developers are relying more on incentives and price cuts to move product. The housing shortage debate is nuanced: Estimates of how short the market is vary significantly. Some regions have a true supply gap, while others show little evidence of shortage when adjusted for population and household formation. What could shift the market: Income growth, rate adjustments, and time-driven lifestyle changes may gradually unlock inventory and restore balance. This episode is a detailed, research-backed conversation for anyone seeking clarity on how structural shifts and economic forces are shaping the future of U.S. housing. Key Topics Covered The Quality vs. Accessibility Debate Pro Church Tools' Position: High-quality livestreams require dedicated mixing boards and professional expertise that most churches lack Matt & Jake's Pushback: 85-95% quality is achievable with proper fundamentals and doesn't require professional-level resources The Real Issue: Sometimes poor livestream quality stems from poor source material (musicianship, room acoustics) The Hard Truth About Audio Quality Matt's Honest Take: "Your livestream mix is not good because your musicians are not good" The Growth Mindset: Every great musician started as a not-so-great musician Foundation First: Master musicianship, room acoustics, and basic mixing before investing in expensive gear Who's Actually Watching Your Stream? Key Statistic: 35% of online church attenders are retirement age (12 points above average) Implications for Ministry: Need to consider accessibility, content relevance, and viewing habits Snowbird Effect: Many older viewers are traveling members staying connected to home church The Purpose Question What are we streaming for? Marketing tool for church visitors Connection for homebound members Seasonal/traveling member engagement Accessibility for those who can't attend in person Production Philosophy Start with fundamentals: Musicianship, room acoustics, basic mixing skills, proper lighting Avoid the gear trap: Don't buy expensive equipment without mastering the basics Quality target: Aim for "good enough" that serves your actual audience, not "perfect" that impresses other tech people Notable Quotes Jake: "You can compress a jackhammer, but it's still going to sound like a jackhammer." Matt: "If you're the sound guy trying to get an online mix that sounds good from a band that doesn't sound good in house, then good luck." Episode #122 - Why Men Pull Away: Unpacking Fear, Intimacy & Masculine ConditioningIn this episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Avrum Weiss, psychotherapist and award-winning author of Hidden in Plain Sight: How Men's Fears of Women Shape Their Intimate Relationships. This conversation dives into the emotional landscape that many men carry but rarely talk about—fears that can profoundly affect the way they connect with women and show up in intimate relationships. We explore fears of being controlled, overwhelmed by emotion, not being enough, or being left. While these fears are often hidden, they quietly influence so many relational dynamics.Avrum and I discuss how traditional socialization teaches boys to shut down emotionally, how that creates barriers to true intimacy, and what's needed for men to feel emotionally safe and seen. We also touch on how these patterns shift across generations, and why creating space for emotional literacy and community support is essential—not just for men, but for all of us.Whether you're in a relationship, raising boys, or simply seeking to understand the masculine emotional experience more deeply, this episode offers a compassionate and eye-opening perspective on what's really going on beneath the surface—and how we can all relate with more awareness and heart.Sound Bites"Men fear being controlled by women.""Men are often emotionally unavailable.""We all suffer under the same system."TakeawaysMany men fear being controlled by women in relationships.Men are often socialized to suppress their emotions.Understanding men's fears can improve relationship dynamics.Women often misinterpret men's withdrawal as disinterest.Men's emotional needs are often overlooked in society. The importance of emotional literacy for both genders.Community support is crucial for emotional well-being.Generational changes are leading to more emotionally aware men.Men benefit significantly from close relationships and marriage.Awareness of emotional dynamics can lead to healthier relationships.Connect with Avrum:WebsiteBooks Let's Connect!WebsiteInstagram FacebookYoutubeRumbleTik TokLinkedinLinktree

The workplace has never been more generationally diverse. From Baby Boomers to Gen Z, four generations are now working side by side (and virtually). But what does that really mean for your team or business? Generational researcher, consultant, speaker, and podcast host Meghan Grace says it comes down to “toggle leadership” - the ability to flex your leadership style, communication, and motivation strategies based on who you're working with. A big part of Meghan's professional journey has centered around researching generations and founding the Institute for Generational Research and Education (IGRE) - a hub for training, insight, and thought leadership on generational dynamics. Meghan joined me on the Podcast: A Better HR Business, to talk about: Navigating the complexities of a four-generation workforce. Debunking generational myths that affect team dynamics. The value of customized generational training for organizations. Evolving work motivations and generational drivers. Tailoring communication for diverse generational preferences. Practicing “toggle leadership” to lead multigenerational teams. Maintaining authenticity in business and marketing. Embracing portfolio careers for flexibility and growth. And much more. In our conversation, Meghan shared practical tips for HR consultants, managers, and leaders on working with multigenerational teams, connecting with different age groups through authentic marketing, and using generational insights to improve business results. The blessings of God are designed for you and your children and your children's children for a thousand generations. These blessings are conditional on faith and faithfulness. We pass God's blessings to our children by teaching and modelling for them what it means to trust in the Lord and keep His ways. The true test of parenting is what they believe and how they live when they leave our homes and establish their own homes. The blessings of God are sustained or loss in each successive generation. So, let's teach our children our Father in heaven's will, so that they can live successful, prosperous lives amid an evil and fallen world.
It's human nature for each generation to criticize the generation that preceded it, often using them as a convenient scapegoat for all that's wrong in the world. The current large target is my own generation, the Baby Boomers. I recently overheard a group of young people—mid-20s—complaining at length about their belief that the Boomers constitute a waste of flesh who never contributed much to society. Respectfully, I beg to differ; this is my response, along with a plea to ALL generations to think twice about that conclusion.
Pastor John James joins us on the podcast for an insightful and inspiring conversation. Takeaways: Understanding one's familial roots is crucial for personal development and leadership effectiveness. The concept of 'past is prologue' emphasizes the significance of history in shaping identity. Emotional and spiritual DNA influences leadership styles and personal growth significantly. A leader's primary task is defining reality, which is deeply informed by family history. Generational anointings should be acknowledged rather than focusing solely on generational curses. Empowering staff and promoting unity among campus pastors is essential in a multi-site church structure.
Generational trauma is just that. Some get lost in the cycle and others try to do their best to break the trend. Which of the two are you? Listen to how a cycle of abuse seems perpetuate itself in the life of this week's guest. If you'd like to support the podcast, please give us a 5 star rating and if the bank account is feeling a touch healthy, head on to www.buymeacoffee.com and get us some coffees.
