Nol-vember is warping into its final dimension this week on @wedrinkandwewatchthings as we conclude our month with the visually massive and deeply emotional space odyssey, "Interstellar (2014)." This film tackles nothing less than the future of humanity, the nature of time, and the gravitational pull of love itself. Grab your drink, get comfortable, and prepare for a journey that will stretch your mind as much as your heart. This week, we explore the sheer ambition of Nolan's vision, from the stunning realism of the black hole, Gargantua, to the dizzying effects of time dilation that cost Cooper years for mere minutes spent on an alien world. We talk through the incredible spectacle of the film, the theoretical science (and where it gets a little hazy), and the overwhelming emotional core: the enduring bond between Cooper and his daughter, Murph. We consider the controversial theory that love is a quantifiable force, the burden of Plan B, and the mind-bending reality of the Tesseract. If you love hard science fiction, grand cinematic spectacle, or just want to immerse yourself in a movie that blends existential dread with boundless hope, this is the perfect final frontier for Nol-vember. We're blending our awe for the film's scale with our usual casual conversation, making this an appropriately epic conclusion to our month dedicated to Christopher Nolan. This episode VIDEO is live on YouTube AND Spotify!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to get ep sneak peaks and find out what's coming next. We're back on the other side of the black hole — emotionally and maybe spiritually. In Part Two of our deep dive into Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, we unpack Cooper's bookshelf breakdown, the emotional math of Murph's ghost, and whether “love” was actually the answer or just Nolan trolling us all. Expect equal parts awe, analysis, and exasperation. Bring tissues… and maybe a physics degree. And as a bonus, we are joined by Jeff McGee and Pam Johnston. On episode 39 of Really Weird Stuff: A Twin Peaks Podcast, we're discussing Twin Peaks the Return: Part 78- "Gotta light?" This episode was written by David Lynch and Mark Frost, and Directed by David Lynch. It's best known as being the most cinematic episode of television that ever aired, and for presenting a complex metaphor for the battle between the light and dark and the perpetuating horrors that America unleashed when we decided to play god. Christopher Nolan could never. Special guest Megan Metzger joins us to discuss how Twin Peaks started her on her journey to media obsession from a very young age, and to attempt to comprehend this Ulysses of television episodes. We explore such mysteries as: WHY does the M.C. say THE Nine Inch Nails?WHERE exactly is Phillip Jeffries? Nol-vember continues this week on We Drink & We Watch Things as we charge headlong into what is maybe the greatest superhero film ever made: The Dark Knight (2008). Forget the cape and cowl - this is a sprawling, high-stakes crime epic that pits the fragile notion of order against the pure, terrifying force of chaos. Grab a drink and prepare to discuss a film that still defines cinematic villainy. This week, we are dissecting Heath Ledger's legendary, Oscar-winning performance as the Joker, who isn't interested in money or power, but in proving that all of society's rules are meaningless. We'll be talking about the film's philosophical backbone, exploring the tragic fall of Harvey Dent, and debating whether Batman's moral line—that he "won't kill"—is a strength or a dangerous liability when facing a truly limitless enemy. It's a discussion about necessary lies, the burden of heroism, and the ultimate sacrifice required to save Gotham's soul.If you love deeply layered crime thrillers, philosophical debates masked as superhero movies, or just want to appreciate the absolute brilliance of a film that transcends its genre, this is the episode you've been waiting for. We're blending our analysis of its narrative depth with our usual casual banter, making this an essential chapter in our month dedicated to Christopher Nolan. This episode VIDEO is live on YouTube AND Spotify!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to get ep sneak peaks and find out what's coming next. As part of the Radio 4 Fatherhood season, Clare McDonnell and her guests discuss the role of fatherhood in men's lives. Darren Harriott is a 37-year-old comedian and presenter of Father Figuring. Darren has now lived longer than his dad, who took his own life while in prison, and he is questioning would he be a good dad? What even makes a good dad? They are joined by Dr Robin Hadley who has written a book looking at why men, like himself, do not become fathers. In 2016 Natalie Queiroz was stabbed 24 times by her partner while she was eight months pregnant. He is currently nine years into an 18 year sentence for attempted murder and attempted child destruction. Natalie and her unborn daughter nearly died. Earlier this year she learned that changes by the Ministry of Justice meant that her attacker could be transferred to an open prison many years earlier than she had expected. She's been campaigning against this but has recently learned his application for a transfer has been approved. Clare hears from Natalie and Ellie Butt from Refuge.Laura Mulvey, filmmaker and pioneering feminist theorist, first coined the term ‘the male gaze'. The British Film Institute's Fellowship is a pretty starry list – Bette Davis, Martin Scorsese, Judi Dench, Tilda Swinton, Christopher Nolan, Tom Cruise....to name a few and now Laura has been added to that prestigious list. Tomorrow Women's Super League Football will officially unveil Design Guidelines for the Delivery of Elite Women's Stadiums in England – a world first framework supporting clubs, local authorities, and architects in building or upgrading venues specifically for their women's teams. They say the rapid growth of the women's game has demonstrated that football venues, historically built and designed for male players and fans, need to be better equipped to cater towards the specific needs of female athletes and supporters. Hannah Buckley, Head of Infrastructure, Safety and Sustainability for WSL football and Suzy Wrack, women's football correspondent for the Guardian discuss. Our latest conversation begins with a short clip from the incomparable Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as part of a quick tribute to the incomparable Robert Redford, and a whole helluva lot of tidbits that we find interesting before your regularly scheduled programming of Movies We've Seen since last time (29:40), TV Talk (1:29:09), and Entertainment News/Upcoming Trailers and Stuff (2:07:28). Then it's time for an exciting Rocky IV installment of “Not Like This, Christopher Nolan” (2:23:00) before Patrick wows during another What Year Did That Come Out Again? (2:32:07), does an okay job at a PTA themed Tomato Talk (2:34:57), and provides a 2025 Hidden Gem recommendation (2:38:38) before we say goodbye until next time. Episode highlights include podcast recommendations, book recommendations, a discussion about Waterworld, 1998's Armageddon, Halloween movie and costume choices, the Sphere in Las Vegas, feelings and fears about AI, Guillermo Del Toro's love of monsters, Peter Weir's cinematic exploration of communities, what makes good Star Trek, a defense of Kathryn Bigelow and her latest film - A House of Dynamite, that warm and cozy feeling you get when you decide to stop watching a show you no longer enjoy, movies and shows that are decidedly “of their time”, fan frustration when storytellers ignore previously established rules and timelines in beloved franchises, Amazon's continued Bond buffoonery, and a new hope that Disney will give fans the original, unaltered films they loved (maybe even in theaters?!). Shout-out to long-time friend of the podcast, Kevin, for this episode's listener feedback.
November is Nol-vember here on @wedrinkandwewatchthings and we're kicking off the month by pulling apart the cinematic mechanism that is Christopher Nolan's 2006 masterpiece of deception, "The Prestige." Grab your favorite drink...maybe our featured Danton's Obsession cocktail? Because this movie is as dark, rich, and endlessly complex as the rivalry it depicts. Get ready to dive into the world of Angier and Borden, where dedication to the craft becomes a blood-soaked obsession. This week, we are dissecting every stage of the illusion: The Pledge, The Turn, and most importantly, The Prestige. We'll be talking about the breathtaking performances by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, the incredible mood created by the Victorian setting, and the film's central, terrifying question: What are you willing to sacrifice for greatness? We also touch on the genius of David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, the unforgettable—and deeply unsettling—role of technology, and which magician, in our opinion, paid the heavier price for their art.If you love puzzle-box narratives, cinematic sleight-of-hand, and dark psychological thrillers, this is the episode for you. Join us as we try to discover the secrets hidden within the secrets, mixing our usual casual commentary with a deep appreciation for a film that proves sometimes, the most horrifying magic trick is the one you play on yourself. Send us a textWhat if your dreams aren't random—they're early drafts of your future? We dive into the strange clarity that images bring, tracing a path from Christopher Nolan's Inception to the enduring lessons of Joseph and Daniel to show how imagination can become logistics, policy, and lived change. We start with the cinematic—why layered dream states, kicks, and totems mirror how ideas stack inside us—and shift to the practical anchors that keep us steady: journaling details the moment we wake, testing symbols across time, and using small, reversible experiments to validate meaning. Then we walk through two timeless case studies. Joseph reads a dream not as poetry but as a plan, translating symbols into storage, strategy, and survival across seven-year cycles. Daniel faces a harder brief—a king forgets his dream—yet recovers both the image and the implication, proving that patience, prayer, and pattern recognition can turn mystery into governance.Along the way, we challenge a few myths. No, other people cannot kill a well-stewarded dream, though careless sharing can slow momentum. Yes, troubling dreams can be signals to prepare, set boundaries, and build competence so opportunity doesn't outrun your skill. And most of all, no meaningful dream is purely personal; it touches families, teams, cities. We frame dreams as stacked pages—compressed futures seeking entry into time and space—and outline a simple workflow: record the image, interpret with wisdom, plan in phases, and act with integrity. If you're ready to treat your imagination like a working tool, this conversation offers methods you can use today—clear questions to ask, habits that sharpen interpretation, and steps that move a vision from 2D image to 3D impact. Welcome to Nol-vember, where we dedicate the entire month to the mind-bending masterpieces of director Christopher Nolan! We're kicking things off with the early, groundbreaking film that put him on the map: "Memento (2000)."This isn't just a movie; it's a psychological experiment that places the audience directly into the disoriented mind of its protagonist, Leonard Shelby. We dive deep into the film's revolutionary non-linear structure told in two interwoven timelines. This structure forces us to question everything Leonard writes on his Polaroids, tattoos onto his body, and tells himself.Join us as we discuss his tattoos, the Sammy Jankis parallel, and what is his identity without memory. The film's core philosophical question is: If our memory is what makes us who we are, who is Leonard Shelby when his memory resets every few minutes?Prepare for a disorienting, exhilarating analysis of the film that cemented Christopher Nolan's reputation as a master of cinematic structure. This episode VIDEO is live on YouTube AND Spotify!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to get ep sneak peaks and find out what's coming next. Christopher Nolan, for a brief moment in time, was set to make The Prestige just ahead of directing Batman Begins. But circumstances meant that by the time the window of time was right, the Batman reboot was already a hit. Nolan thus jumped into a movie that was modestly costed, and didn't involve having to travel the world to shoot. The author of the original book The Prestige? Well, he sounds like a guy with notes...! Then! Ryan Lambie had a long conversation with Predator: Badlands, Predator: Killer Of Killers and Prey writer/director Dan Trachtenberg. He talks about his new film, and bit of Weyland Yutani too... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Escuchar audio
In one of the best movies every created, this week we dive into The Prestige. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlet Johanson, Michael Caine, Piper Perabo....and David Bowie. This fantasy/adventure film is a tale of magic, deception, sacrifice, mystery, love and a little bit of crime drama. It's a woeful 19th century cautionary tale of not trusting ANYONE, maybe double checking the woods and don't cheat on your (?) wife. Like we said, it's perfect. Any other take is fake news.

On today's show Chris Ryan joins Sean to unpack the year 2025 in horror movies. But first, they hit a handful of movie news headlines, including rumors of a new trailer coming out in December for Christopher Nolan's ‘The Odyssey,' Michael Mann's recent comments about the production of ‘Heat II,' and Eva Victor being cast in Tony Gilroy's ‘Behemoth!' (2:02). They then cover Scott Derrickson's sequel, ‘The Black Phone 2' (starring Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames), which they both found quite disappointing (10:32). Next, they reflect on the current state of horror as a genre and explore why they feel it's in a weird place right now (26:07). Later, Chris and Sean share their favorites of the year (36:16) before Alex Ross Perry joins the show to discuss his contribution to V/H/S/Halloween. Perry talks us through his thought process and points out why finding what he personally finds scary is the most important part (1:02:50). My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is JF Monroe, author of the book The Legendary Guardians: Reunions. When reality isn't enough, you build your universe. That's precisely what J.F. Monroe did with the Legacy of the Four trilogy, creating a world where ancient powers walk among us and destiny can be rewritten by the courage of the human heart. A lifelong devotee of fantasy fiction, Monroe crafts stories that blend epic adventure with deeply personal journeys. Her writing draws inspiration from the character-driven narratives of "The Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter," the high stakes of "The Hunger Games," and the intricate plotting of Christopher Nolan's films. These influences combine in her work to create stories where even the most extraordinary characters feel remarkably real. At the heart of Monroe's storytelling philosophy lies a simple truth: the most powerful magic comes from human connection. Her characters—whether they're vessels for ancient powers or loyal companions with four legs—face struggles that resonate with readers long after they turn the last page. She crafts protagonists who aren't just extraordinary in their abilities but also in their capacity for growth, love, and sacrifice. When not weaving tales of legendary guardians and supernatural realms, Monroe can be found immersed in the stories that fuel her imagination—curled up with a good book and a steaming cup of coffee, embarking on movie marathons, or exploring virtual worlds through video games. These moments of escape and adventure inspire new stories and new worlds for readers to discover. In my book review, I stated The Legendary Guardians: Reunions is a fantasy. I enjoyed the storyline and would have given it more stars if it weren't for the multitude of gratuitous explicit scenes. If you don't mind spice or are willing to skip the scenes, you'll find the story has a lot of depth. We learn early on that the human race is being held together by a treaty that keeps demons, angels, and the seven deadly sins in check. The enforcers of the treaty are the four horsemen. However, the horsemen have to choose human hosts during an event called the crucible. Both Shade and Theo, teenagers in love, are chosen to participate in the crucible - and Theo is chosen as a horseman, tearing the young lovers brutally apart. Several years go by, but Shade can't move on with her life. Then, strange things begin to happen - things that suggest the treaty is no longer in effect. What will this mean for Shade? For Theo? For the world? This book is fast-paced and leaves you wanting the next installment. Content note: There are some rather detailed sex scenes. I chose to skip them and doing so did not change the book's narrative. In the final film of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, the main villain Bane watches the city of Gotham devolve into chaos and destruction while he calmly knits. This detail alludes to a character in Charles Dickens' novel A Tale of Two Cities who knits while sentencing people to death. Nolan deploys this subtle hint to cue the audience to read his Batman narrative in light of Dickens' novel. In a similar way, the author of Esther uses careful allusions in order to place the narrative within the wider scope of the Bible. The dialogue, decisions, and dramatic tensions introduced in Esther 3-4 pull on the narrative threads of prior Old Testament books underscore the unchanging and sovereign goodness of God towards his people.
