Welcome to another inspiring episode of Build a Better Agency! In this episode, host Drew McLellan sits down with high-performance coach and leadership expert Christina Langdon to explore what it truly means to scale your agency—not just in terms of size or revenue, but in mindset, vision, and team culture. Drawing on decades of leadership experience at organizations like Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Fast Company, Christina offers invaluable insights on unlocking growth and reimagining success for agency leaders and their teams. Throughout their conversation, Drew and Christina unpack the dangers of operating on “default mode,” the pitfalls that keep agencies stuck in status quo thinking, and how our brains—wired for survival rather than success—can hold us back from imagining extraordinary futures. Christina introduces practical strategies for reflection and growth, including her signature daily practice: reviewing what worked, what didn't, and what can be done differently. She explains how these habits, when shared individually and collectively, can spark new awareness and propel teams toward higher performance, deeper engagement, and lasting happiness at work. The episode also delves into tactical frameworks for agency owners looking to elevate their leadership teams, assess existing capabilities, and foster cultures of intentional learning. Christina shares actionable tips on co-creating extraordinary goals, updating job descriptions to match evolving strengths, and using tools like user manuals to deepen collaboration and understanding within teams. You'll also hear how to address common “dream killers,” manage stress by focusing on what's within your control, and get buy-in for big, bold changes—even from those who might be resistant to new ways of thinking.  If you're ready to move beyond incremental improvements and instead ignite genuine transformation within your agency, this episode is packed with real-world advice and motivational stories to get you started. Whether you want to grow in revenue, impact, retention, or simply reclaim your team's enthusiasm, Christina and Drew provide a roadmap for dreaming bigger—together.  A big thank you to our podcast's presenting sponsor, White Label IQ. They're an amazing resource for agencies who want to outsource their design, dev, or PPC work at wholesale prices. Check out their special offer (10 free hours!) for podcast listeners here. What You Will Learn in This Episode: Shifting agency leadership out of “default mode” and embracing intentional growth  Rewiring mindsets from survival to imagination for breakthrough results Building daily reflection practices to improve agency and personal performance Co-creating extraordinary futures as a leadership team rather than top-down planning Leveraging vulnerability and user manuals to deepen team collaboration Tackling chronic stress and letting go of low-impact work for better productivity Rethinking job descriptions and success criteria to elevate leaders and teams

EVERYONE IS A SALESMAN—In 1995, New York magazine declared Martha Stewart the “Definitive American Woman of Our Time.” And, as the saying goes (sort of), behind every Definitive American Woman of Our Time is another Definitive American Woman of Our Time. And that's today's guest, designer Gael Towey. But let's back up. It's 1982, and Martha Stewart, then known as the “domestic goddess”—or some other dismissive moniker—published her first book, Entertaining. It was a blockbuster success that was soon followed by a torrent of food, decorating, and lifestyle bestsellers. In 1990, after a few years making books with the likes of Jackie Onassis, Irving Penn, Arthur Miller, and, yes, Martha Stewart, Towey and her Clarkson Potter colleague, Isolde Motley, were lured away by Stewart, who had struck a deal with Time Inc. to conceive and launch a new magazine.Towey's modest assignment? Define and create the Martha Stewart brand. Put a face to the name. From scratch. And then, distill it across a rapidly-expanding media and retail empire. In the process, Stewart, Motley, and Towey redefined everything about not only women's magazines, but the media industry itself—and spawned imitators from Oprah, Rachael, and even Rosie.By the turn of the millennium, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, as it was rebranded in 1997, included seven magazines, multiple TV projects, a paint collection with Sherwin-Williams, a mail-order catalog, Martha by Mail, massive deals with retailers Kmart, Home Depot, and Macy's, a line of crafts for Michael's, a custom furniture brand with Bernhardt, and even more bestselling books. And the responsibility for the visual identity of all of it fell to Towey and her incredibly talented team. It was a massive job.We talk to Towey about her early years in New Jersey, about being torn between two men (“Pierre” and Stephen), eating frog legs with Condé Nast's notorious editorial director, Alexander Liberman, and, about how, when all is said and done, life is about making beautiful things with extraordinary people.—This episode is made possible by our friends at Mountain Gazette, Commercial Type, and Freeport Press. Whitney Geller and Yasemin Emory unpack this notion by sharing their story of transitioning from leading the successful design agency Whitman Emorson to challenging stereotypes in the safer sex industry with their brand, Jems Condoms. The duo addresses the lack of representation and dated messaging in the existing market, combining their design prowess with a mission to make condom buying and use more approachable and stigma-free. By cultivating a collaborative studio culture and ambitious leadership at Whitman Emorson, they granted themselves the freedom to venture into the product space, driven by values and a desire to make an impact. In this episode of Inspired Insider Podcast, Dr. Jeremy Weisz interviews Whitney Geller and Yasemin Emory, Co-founders of Whitman Emorson, about their entrepreneurial journey from running a creative agency to launching a safer sex brand. They share how they navigated the complexities of creating a start-up without compromising the integrity and success of their original agency, setting a culture that embraces a life-work balance, and tackling regulatory challenges in advertising condoms.

Amy Stanton is always been the driver type. The type of person that's always been a high- achiever. Whether it was her role as a Head of Marketing and Communications for NYC 2012 (for New York's Olympic bid), or is the Chief Marketing Officer at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, or even more recently as a Founder and CEO of her PR Agency Stanton & Company, Amy is always been badass! After self-reflection, what she realized is how she showed up in her professional career is also how she showed up in her personal life. This led her to investigate the balance between masculine and feminine energy. In this episode, we talk about themes from her Ted X Talk and her book The Feminine Revolution in which she challenges the idea the femininity is weak and she encourages women to redefine and embrace their feminine qualities as a source of power. Historically, to compete in a 'man's world', women have felt the need to exert more of their masculine energy like assertiveness and confidence. Amy advocates for us to not exchange a feminine trait for a masculine trait but rather to use masculine traits to enhance our feminine traits. He is a visionary decorating editor, a creative mind, and one of the most organized people I know. His apartment in Manhattan features a number of stylishly organized spaces that lean heavily on color—a beautifully designed bookcase with hundreds of books arranged by hue, a graphic all-black closet that rivals the merchandising at any chic store, and an epic china and silver cabinet for his encyclopedic collections of tabletop. After a conversation with Kevin, I walk away inspired and always having learned something. Tune in as we explore Kevin’s organizing solutions, which are as hardworking and precise as they are intuitive and cool.

Amy advocates for us to not exchange a feminine trait for a masculine treat but rather to use masculine traits to enhance our feminine traits. Jenny Hutt steps Behind The Rope. Let us start at the beginning. Jenny was born in Roslyn, Long Island to Charles & Bunny Koppelman. A “big wig” in the record industry, her Dad knew them all. By all, we mean he worked with the likes of Barbara Streisand, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Vanilla Ice. Jenny grew up going on vacations with Barbara Streisand and “hanging out” with Dolly Parton. Obsessed with Rap Music at a young age, RUN DMC played at her Sweet Sixteen Party and The Beastie Boys were also in attendance. Remember the MTV Show “My Super Sweet 16”? Ok, you get the idea. After college Jenny went to Law School, before accepting a position as her Dad’s executive assistant for his newly found position as Chairman and Right Hand Man to Martha Stewart at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. It was at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia that Martha’s daughter Alexis befriended her and decided, hey, we are going to have a radio show together. For the next several years, Jenny and Alexis hosted “Whatever with Alexis & Jennifer” at SiriusXM. That Radio show led to a TV Show on the Hallmark Chanel of the same name where they interviewed a variety of guests such as national treasure Paula Abdul. It was also during this time that Martha and Jenny’s Dad starred on a little known reality show called “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart”. Jenny couldn’t believe her eyes when one of her college friends was a contestant on the show, Miss Bethenny Frankel. Jenny enlightens us with what Bethenny was like in college and how even way back when, she was determined to know and have it all. Jenny has a funny story about Bethenny selling motorcycles in Europe. Yup, always the hustler, even back then. Regarding the radio show, one day Alexis was “over it” and the show ended, leaving Jenny to form her own stellar SiriusXM Radio Show “Just Jenny”. Jenny talks to us about some of her favorite guests such as Kerry Washington, Rob Lowe and, oh yea, she was able to connect with childhood “friend” Dolly Parton for a formal sit down interview. Finally, we discuss her brilliant invention, Bunny Eyez, the flippable, tiltable, wearable reading glasses, discuss whether she would ever take that invention on Shark Tank and of course, discuss once of life’s most important questions, which shark would you chose to invest. And feminine had taken on this very negative spin.” - Amy Stanton“All of these things that have been seen as negative when describing women and femininity, these are actually our superpowers.” - Amy Stanton“The environment needs to adjust to allow for these feminine qualities to be front-and-center. Susan Lyne has had one of the most extraordinary careers of anyone in corporate America in the past 30 years. Currently the founder and President of BBG Ventures (more on that below), Lyne served as CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia during the time Martha Stewart was in jail. Before that, she held various positions at the Disney and ABC, including President of ABC Entertainment. Lyne gave the greenlight to shows like Desperate Housewives, Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and The Bachelor, but was fired from ABC before any of those huge hits made it to air. In this episode of Fortune Unfiltered, Lyne discusses her public dismissal from Disney, losing her husband to cancer, the key to starting over in her career (many times) and her current endeavor, an early-stage investment fund for women-led startups. Funded by AOL, BBG Ventures sprung out of the #BuiltByGirls movement, which - by the way - Lyne helped launch as CEO of AOL’s Brand Group.

How does Susan stay relevant and ahead? We would be surprised at the amount of TV she watches, she plays games when they come out, she works with 1-2 young people who keep her up to date on trends, and she spends 30 minutes a day alone with pen and paper thinking strategically. People enduring chronic stress are less likely to eat right, exercise, sleep enough, or do many of the basic things necessary for good health, says Jan Bruce, co-founder of meQuilibrium. The answer, of course, is simple. Find ways to reduce stress, but the path to a less stressful existence isn’t as clear as it might be. Bruce co-founded meQuilibrium to deliver individualized plans for employees designed to help them build “resilience” to stress. Psilos CEO Steve Krupa and Bruce delve into the actual impacts stress is having on health and the economy. Guest Bio: Jan Bruce has devoted much of the last twenty years to pioneering new brands in health, wellness, consumer lifestyle, and holistic medicine. She has a passion for building strong business strategies and cohesive management teams that deliver results. She is widely recognized as an authority on women’s attitudes toward a balanced healthy lifestyle and sustainable living. She also regularly speaks on business turnarounds and LOHAS business issues. In 2004 Bruce sold her company, body+soul/whole living, to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and then served as her former firm’s managing director for five years, during which time she led the growth of the business: quadrupling the revenues and tripling the circulation, spawning a multi‐platform franchise that includes website, video on demand, a daily radio show, and a new green cleaning product‐line. She then co-founded meQuilibrium after having a surprising personal epiphany that stress was keeping her from enjoying the rewards of her work.

Consumers, battered by a steep downturn in housing and a severe credit crunch, slowed spending growth in September to the weakest performance in three months. First-time claims for state unemployment benefits dropped to their lowest level in three weeks during the week ending Oct. 27th, while the number of workers continuing to claim unemployment benefits rose to its highest level since Sept. 1st. Initial jobless claims fell to 327,000, a decrease of 6,000. It's the lowest since Oct. 6th.The U.S. manufacturing sector grew at a slower pace for a fourth straight month in October. The ISM index fell to 50.9% from 52% in September. Economists expected a dip to 51.5%. A soaring number of U.S. homeowners struggled to make mortgage payments in the third quarter, with properties in some stage of foreclosure more than doubling from the same time last year. Almost 447,000 homes nationwide were targeted by some sort of foreclosure activity from July to September, up 100.1 percent from the year before.Chrysler LLC is laying off thousands of hourly workers in the Midwest as part of an effort to slash costs and match slowing demand for some vehicles. In Forex News TodayThe dollar recovered from a record low against the euro after the Federal Reserve cut rates but dampened expectations of further monetary policy easing this year. The Fed said inflation risks were equal to the possibility of slower growth, prompting the fed futures market to cut bets on a December rate cut to as low as a 40 percent chance. The yen rose against the euro and dollar as speculation increased that losses from subprime mortgage investments may deepen, spurring investors to cut riskier bets funded by loans in Japan. The Canadian dollar has recently rallied to fresh multi-decade highs against the US dollar, with record crude oil costs stoking strong demand for the Canadian currency. With the world?s second-largest proven oil reserves, Canada has undoubtedly benefited from the commodity?s uptrend. Given the fact that it is the single-largest exporter of oil to the United States, it is little surprise that the US Dollar-Canadian dollar exchange rate has held a historically high correlation to the price of crude oil.
