Ben & Rob roar back to life as they revive The Legendary MonsterVerse series, with this year's box-office kaiju ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'! Despite an awkward name and a lukewarm reception from critics, this movie is not only the second highest grossing film of the series but of the entire 2024 box-office! Starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' has an awkward name but a crystal clear mission statement: All Kaiju, All Of The Time. But with this many disparate entries in a now ten-year-old franchise, is this universe looking a little long in the carbon-fibre tooth? Does the movie live up to the romcom expectations we had last year when we covered every MonsterVerse movie ever? And have we finally solved the mystery of Kong's gender?!CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! The relationship between CGI and Anime has been a rough one. Either hitting the mark with mixed results or missing and totally horrifying the watcher. Lupin the First doesn't have this problem, in fact, it's one of the most gorgeous-looking animated movies made in the last 10 years. The guys talk about Lupin, Monkey Punch, Hitler, Jackets, and Lupin in real life.

The Pemmy & James Kinda-Sorta-Hopefully Funny Cartoon Podcast
Few criminals in animation history are as notorious or beloved as Lupin the Third, the simultaneously suave and goofy gentleman thief. In his second anime run, which Pemmy and James look at in this episode, the character became TMS' flagship property, running over 150 episodes. Many of his US fans first encountered him via Adult Swim's broadcasts of an English language dub, but there was a prior project that saw a small amount of this series dubbed for the home video market, and we check out a little of both!
“I guess we do battle tonight, Pops!” For the penultimate episode of Japanimation Station Season 3, we're looking at a selection of Lupin the 3rdfilms and specials from the brink of the new millennium! Starting with 1996's Dead or Alive, a theatrical feature directed by Lupin creator Monkey Punch himself, which sees our favorite thief embroiled in a narratively messy but visually stunning adventure on a very strange island. 1997's Island of Assassins is a lesser Lupin special, weirdly violent but without any particular bite, while 1998's Tokyo Crisis is one of our absolute favorites, a Zenigata-led, uproariously funny comedy with fantastic guest performances by Megumi Hayashibara and Kōichi Yamadera. And finally, we end our examination of Lupin the 3rd anime with 2002's Episode 0: The First Contact, an origin story caper for the entire Lupin gang that sees the franchise taking its early steps into digital animation, with mixed results. Enjoy, and come back next week for our season 3 finale, where we'll be reviewing the 1974 live-action Lupin adaptation, Strange Psychokinetic Strategy, and celebrating all this season's Lupintic adventures! “Lupin. He's a nice man. But he's cool.” Welcome to Season 3 of Japanimation Station: The Classic Adventures of Lupin the 3rd! This season, we will be exploring the countless capers of one of the most enduring icons of anime from his very first animated appearance in 1969 up through the dawn of the 21st century. In today's season premiere, we go through the history of Monkey Punch's original Lupin the 3rd manga, the creation of the 1969 pilot film, and finally do a deep dive on Lupin's first anime TV series, 1971's Lupin the 3rd, retroactively referred to as Part I. It is one of the most fascinating, unique, and compelling shows we've ever seen, a series essentially divided in half between early episodes helmed by Masaaki Osumi, which are more adult and irreverent a la Monkey Punch's manga, and the later caper-centric episodes directed by the men who would go on to found Studio Ghibli, Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki! Both visions of the series are equally accomplished, and the series sees a wide range of animation giants pass through its doors – including Yasuo Otsuka and Osamu Dezaki – and by the end, Lupin the 3rd has started to settle on a template that will serve it well for decades to come. Enjoy, and come back next week as we review Lupin's first animated theatrical film, the 1978 classic The Mystery of Mamo!

Merry Christmas, or Xmas or XXXmas (wink wink) if Santa ain't the only one sliding if you nomtalkinbout . We start this pod off in a very merry mood because our Ninja Black surprised us with early gifts that we open on air. (Thank Black) A few minutes In Starman aka Yuki, aka Tamaki Black gives a musically studded review of Lupin the III Part V (Lupin the 3rd in Paris) review. Big RIP and Shout out goes to legendary illustrator, artist, and creator of Lupin The III, Monkey Punch aka Kazuhiko Kato, who we, unfortunately, lost back in April of this year. Thank you for everything and just like your character Lupin you’ve managed to steal so many hearts with your imagination and vision, you will be missed. @(00:24:21) Black keeps giving and gives a rundown on some great brew provided by supplied by Makyo Metal, Wicked Weed Brewing Co. Passion Fruit lychee Burst. Makyo also tells the tale of his recent journey to FYE and tells us of some of the bountiful harvest of geek items for purchase at a highly inflated price. At the end of this segment, we deliver some Moon Knight news. (00:39:00) in a recent interview Indian Actor, Kumail Nanjiani revealed his superhero body and boy is he ripped! We take a few moments to speculate what it would be like to have Disney and Marvels' best resources to reach our maximum physical potential. We also somehow drift towards a conversation about Michel B Jordan (Shout out) and other Black celebrities who are low key Anime and Gamer fans. (00:49:00) “Quit Prohibiting ME Mayne….” Unexpectedly a Mane of few words stops by and vents about some of the troubles of bounty hunting and what life's been like since he rescued the package. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you The Manedalorian. Not to be confused with Disney’s Mandalorian . (01:07:00) On December 12, 2019, The Video Game awards Formerly the Spike Video Game Awards took place in Los Angeles California. Makyo Metal gives us a brief rundown of all the winners and contenders. With this airing taking place a little over a week after the ceremony, we here at the Ninja Please Podcast would like to wish a warm Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. (01:28:03) Tis The Season and while many find the lights, trees, ornaments and Christmas music to be an inspiration to do good deeds, some don’t need any motivation other than doing the right thing. Black opens up about a very personal, near-tragic yet still traumatic event that befell his family one year prior. Later in this segment, we ask ourselves “Does it still feel like Christmas?” (01:33:41) RIP Stan Lee, With Stan Lee’s Birthday approaching (DEC 28) we would like to take this time to send our thoughts, prayers and wishes to his family and all of the other fans like us. This segment may be the most troubling because regardless of his intention and the intention and ideas of many writers like Stan, Comics and Superhero tales are never far from scrutiny and the ever-present “Hate” that their success seems to bring. Terry Gilliam famed director of “Fear and Loathing Las Vegas”, decided to spit a little superhero hate, but ended up barfing up a very racist bit of egg nog. This is why he is our first ever DEEP OF THE WEEK. (01:45:32) Bob Iger recently opened up in an interview about the drunken plead he received from Tom Holland. Universal is trying to purchase the rights of Lego movie from Warner Brothers. Starman also delivers a PSA to all parents “Monitor the Cartoons your children watch”. Oh and Stephen King’s Carrie is getting the FX limited series treatment. Original Music By Starman Lupin The III Original Theme by Takeo Yamashita. Composed by Yuji Ohno.

On this episode of the Nerd Music Meltdown, Kent (@fistofthemfk) brings on Florida-based electronic music producer, remixer, and keytarist dj-Jo!(@DjJoMusic) dj-Jo has been making music for a decade and played at last year's Orlando Overdrive III and Power, Wisdom, and Courage, along with plenty of anime conventions. He's also a big Legend of Zelda fan and we nerd out about that, dj-Jo's inspiration to become a musician, his evolution as a producer and performer, and building remixes from scratch, including collaborating with vocalists for anime songs. Oh, and we talk about his sexy-as-hell keytar. You can find dj-Jo's music though dj-jo.com. Kent also reflects on his recent trip to New York and the passing of manga creators Monkey Punch and Kazuo Koike. dj-Jo has some shows coming up, including MomoCon in Atlanta and something in Orlando in June. Listen to find out! "The Meltdown" theme by RoboRob.
It's a sad episode as Evan and David discuss the death of legendary manga artist and Lupin III creator Monkey Punch and the retirement of Nintendo of America President and de-facto Nintendo mascot Reggie Fils-Aime. Evan's also catching up on anime and games — specifically Aggretsuko and Kirby's Adventure (NES) — while David is getting his From Software fix with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. On that subject, the hosts jump into the recent conversation around difficulty and accessibility in games surrounding Sekiro. Topics include: don't cancel Reggie, Zelda is a Mario game, and leaving Netflix to autoplay Carole & Tuesday. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Well hello once again, once again those Nerds have given us another episode full of fun and laughter, so strap in and hang on tight as we enjoy the rid. Please remember to keep arms inside the ride at all times to avoid injury. To start this mad cap episode we have the cast list of the new Dr. Dolittle with Robert Downey Jr. This cast has almost as many stars as the US flag. Will this be just another remake of a great movie, or will it be great? Who knows, at present all we know for sure is the cast is pretty impressive. Next up we take a moment to discuss the presence of water on the moon. That’s right water on the moon, is it H2O or OH, is there enough for a pool to soak away the long dreary hours after working all day as a janitor. Oops, that was the story for Space Quest, sorry. But the presence of water is important to plans to build a moon base for further space exploration. Last topic is about Crazy Taxi and not horrifying us with gruesome violence like the horror movie right there on our TV, called the 6 o’clock news. Sorry, distracted again, but hey, it is an amazing line up to entertain you and is followed by the usual shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and events of interest. As always we would love to hear from you, and please remember to take care of each other and stay hydrated.EPISODE NOTES:Dr Dolittle Movie starring Robert Downey Jr - http://collider.com/robert-downey-jr-doctor-dolittle-movie-reshoots/Moon Water - https://phys.org/news/2019-04-meteoroid-eject-precious-moon.html- https://www.newscientist.com/article/2199618-there-is-water-just-under-the-surface-of-the-moon-that-we-could-use/Crazy Taxi patent expiration - https://patents.google.com/patent/US6200138B1/enGames currently playingProfessor– Age of Empire 2 HD - https://store.steampowered.com/app/221380/Age_of_Empires_II_HD/Buck– Car Simulator 2016 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/car-mechanic-simulator-2016/9nblggh4t4c4DJ– Apex Legends - https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legendsOther topics discussedThe Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (2020 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voyage_of_Doctor_DolittleKnut the Polar Bear- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knut_(polar_bear)Inuka the Polar Bear- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InukaSelena Gomez bio- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selena_GomezThe Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (1922 novel)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voyages_of_Doctor_DolittleThe Futurist (Robert Downey Jr. album)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Futurist_(Robert_Downey_Jr._album)Craig Robinson (actor)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Robinson_(actor)Pineapple Express (2008 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pineapple_Express_(film)Puss in Boots- https://shrek.fandom.com/wiki/Puss_in_BootsTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014 film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(2014_film)LADEE - Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LADEELCROSS - Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCROSSNASA's strike on moon worked- http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TECH/space/10/09/probe.moon.crash/index.htmlWater on Titan?- https://www.astrobio.net/news-exclusive/a-water-ocean-on-titan/Moon (2009 film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_(film)Aniara (1956 poem)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AniaraSpace: 1999 (1975 TV Series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space:_1999Bottle Waters of the World- http://www.finewaters.com/bottled-waters-of-the-world/japanDriver : San Franciso- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver:_San_FranciscoKylie Minogue Darling Perfume- https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Kylie-Minogue/Darling-842.htmlLoading screen mini games- https://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/11/the-patent-on-loading-screen-mini-games-is-about-to-expire/Patent - https://patents.google.com/patent/US5718632Midtown Madness (1999 game)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midtown_MadnessMidnight Club (racing series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_ClubMidnight Club 3: Dub Edition- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Club_3:_Dub_EditionAssassin’s Creed Unity free giveaway- https://www.gamesradar.com/au/ubisoft-is-giving-away-assassins-creed-unity-for-free-as-a-nod-to-the-notre-dame-cathedral/My Summer Car (game)- https://store.steampowered.com/app/516750/My_Summer_Car/Days Gone motorcycle upgrade- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP5OjNq_CfsEVA-8 Auto (Apex Legends Gun)- https://apexlegends.gamepedia.com/EVA-8_AutoAl-Aqsa Mosque on fire same time as Notre Dame- https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/small-fire-broke-out-jerusalems-al-aqsa-mosque-flames-ravaged-notre-dame-180971983/Monty Python's Life of Brian- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python%27s_Life_of_Brian3D Printed heart using patient cells- https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2019/04/15/USAT/903d849a-04cb-4171-b786-4cd7e60fcf8a-AFP_AFP_1FN7BD.JPG?crop=5471,3077,x0,y566&width=3200&height=1680&fit=boundsLive Animal in keychains- http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/04/14/china.animal.keyring/index.htmlMel Blanc (voice actor)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_BlancPeppermint (2018 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint_(2018_film)Ronin (1998 film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronin_(film)Operation Desert Shield also known as The Gulf War- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_WarElvis Lives! Last week we sadly lost two influential mangaka whose works have become cultural institutions. Kazuhiko Kato, more popularly known by his pen name Monkey Punch, and Kazuo Koike have both passed away due to pneumonia. It’s bittersweet that Koike’s final tweets were reminiscing on his friend and rival, as both of their iconic series competed for popularity in Weekly Manga Action over nearly 50 years ago. His very last internet words were “I’m really going to miss him,” and we at Manga Mavericks feel the same about both creators. Lupin the Third is a franchise we both adore and one that has endured and entertained generations. Many of Koike’s works, including Lone Wolf and Cub, are absolute classics, and his legacy and influence on the medium can be seen through the numerous talents he helped nurture like Rumiko Takahashi and Tetsuo Hara, among many others. Both creators’ influence extend beyond manga, having even influence film directors abroad like Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino through film adaptations of their works. So while we mourn their passing, we also find solace that their life’s work and legacy will continue to live on. Though we’d like to spend more time eulogizing them, there’s been a lot of other news in the manga world we need to talk about. There’re new series, new licenses, and exciting opportunities for aspiring mangaka to break-in to the industry! Plus, we’ve got two new Jump Starts to talk about! Or, rather, “Manga Plus Starts” since they’re exclusive to that service. Did Heart Gear and Spy x Family soote our broken hearts, or are they series we’d rather exclude from the Manga Plus family? Listen in and find out! Look forward to next week’s podcast where we answer all your We Never Learn Q&As AND make an exciting announcement! What could it be? You’ll have to listen and see! It’s a sad episode as Evan and David discuss the death of legendary manga artist and Lupin III creator Monkey Punch and the retirement of Nintendo of America President and de-facto Nintendo mascot Reggie Fils-Aime. Evan’s also catching up on anime and games — specifically Aggretsuko and Kirby’s Adventure (NES) — while David is getting his From Software fix with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. On that subject, the hosts jump into the recent conversation around difficulty and accessibility in games surrounding Sekiro. Topics include: don’t cancel Reggie, Zelda is a Mario game, and leaving Netflix to autoplay Carole & Tuesday. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Tonight on GeekNights, we have our final thoughts on the full run of Adventure Time. It's a phenomenal show: there's no other way to say it. We did a mini review back in 2014. Rym didn't even start watching the show until What Was Missing premiered. From the original short in 2008 to the perfect last episode, this show is a treasure. In the news, Castle of Cagliostro and Penguin Highway are playing in NYC, Monkey Punch has passed on, and you can finally read the end of Initial D. Our Rare Game Mechanics and The Real Harm of Games panels are on youtube!

Tom, Violence Jill, and I examine the passionate thievery of two excellent entries in the long-running Lupin the Third series created by comic author Monkey Punch.
Hayao Miyazaki began his career with television and it was the show “Lupin III” that gave him the chance to direct both for the small screen as well as for the big screen with the second story about Lupin the Third in 1979. Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we begin our short Hayao Miyazaki series with his first theatrical feature film, Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro. We talk about the history of the character of Lupin III in Monkey Punch's original manga series, in the TV series and its films, as well as in the Arsène Lupin character he's loosely based on (and related to) created by Maurice Leblanc. We discuss the elements within the film and what feels like Miyazaki touches, even at this early stage in his career. We compare the interesting world of manga and anime as compared to Disney films in particular. And we chat about the casts: the original Japanese, the 1992 English dub version and the 2000 dub. It's a fun film, maybe not one of our favorites, but still something that's got action, comedy and entertainment for the family. Check it out then tune in!
