Send us a textHave you ever wondered how common law rules and market prices both "emerge"? Inspired by the works of James Buchanan, F.A. Hayek, and Bruno Leoni, Donald Boudreaux explains how decentralized processes can lead to the emergence of effective norms, such as queuing and speeding rules, without the need for top-down legislation. We discuss the significance of individuals spending their own money versus others' and how these incentives impact societal outcomes, highlighting the deep wisdom embedded in traditionally evolved rules. We also venture into the nuanced distinction between law and legislation, drawing on insights from Buchanan and Hayek. We elaborate on Buchanan's concept of "relatively absolute absolutes," and on Hayek's emergence process, emphasizing the continuous generation of information through human action and preferences. Discover the natural process behind the emergence of common law, its role in establishing predictable rules, and the challenges presented by the unpredictable nature of parliamentary law. This is an excellent episode for anybody who is changing the world, changing people's beliefs, writing books, or just following a creative process. In This Episode Questioning and exploring new ideas and paradigms is essential for personal growth and understanding the world. The writing process helps solidify and crystallize knowledge and ideas. — This is how you envision hypnosis, isn't it? In the beginning, I felt the same way. Since then, I have been practicing psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, and I can tell you that hypnosis is a natural process. You are in a trance every day. Engrossed in your work, falling asleep, waking up, and taking a bath. A scientifically based method of treatment, hypnosis has been recognized by the "Scientific Advisory Board for Psychotherapy" since 2006. Hypnosis addressees your issue quickly, effectively, and cause-oriented by positively occupying the inner evaluations of your subconscious. There can only be change where it is needed. One of the most radical things you can do is to give up a fear or a vice. It is important that you recognize your strengths and potentials and work to improve them. Valeria interviews Bernhard Tewes — He is a licensed hypnotherapist, praxis owner, and keynote speaker on hypnosis from Berlin. Bernhard is a certified member of National Guild of Hypnotists, and the German Alliance of Hypnotherapists. In his KIEZ-Hypnose praxis Bernhard works with patients suffering from addictions, sleeping disorder, burnout, depression, phobia, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. In his desire to make hypnotherapy more available to everybody Bernhard founded HypnoBox – an app providing self-hypnosis sessions for mental and physical health issues. Each audio session is focused on targeting a specific problem like smoking cessation, stress resilience, overcoming jealousy, et c. To learn more about Bernhard Tewes and his work, please visit: hypnobox.com and kiez-hypnose.de/en — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. Wildfires were and are still common in the North American Prairie lands, and the flowers and grasses that make up this amazing ecosystem evolved as a result. For those that live in prairie regions, controlled prairie fires are a sign of spring. Non-native plants are burned away during each burn, giving prairie species more nutrients and space to develop. Because prairie plants have deep roots and develop from a place underground, they can withstand fires. In prairie restoration, a prescribed burn is essential. As this is a burn process, there is resulting carbon.

In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge talks with the founder of https://www.certainchange.co.uk/ (Certain Change), Stephen Bates. Stephen is in the business of getting the best out of people, he shares. He believes that a business leader can make or break the execution of their amazing idea based on how they live up to their own potential. Certain Change helps entrepreneurs use their skills and time to the best of their ability – and then help them get the best out of their teams, too. Stephen shares that he got his start in the physical therapy industry. He shares that people would come into his office in real physical pain and he'd spend time to coach them on how to change their lifestyle and heal their pain faster. What he noticed was that many of the patients he coached, about 40% in his experience, didn't do what would help them at home. He realized that if people could endure acute chronic pain and knowingly not help themselves, then everything else in our lives, careers, and relationships can be treated the same way with ease. Josh and Stephen explore the pain points his clients tend to experience. The first major challenge is for the business owner to overcome their own frustration. The reality, Stephen explains, is that many of these business owners know they're capable of doing more but don't let themselves. A lot of this is labeled and chalked up to imposter syndrome or anxiety, but in any case, there's an evident gap between what these entrepreneurs know they can achieve and what they actually allow themselves to achieve. For a business owner, this can manifest as underpriced services and products, under promoted services or offerings, and lower-than-they-should-be prospecting goals. The underlying issue is this gap and the frustration that comes with this cycle of self-limiting behavior. Imposter syndrome is as pervasive as ever. Josh and Stephen discuss how to address it. First of all, see it for what it is – ‘imposter syndrome' is an exaggeration of doubt. Stephen explains that every worthwhile good decision is going to come with doubt and a loss of confidence with uncertainty. This is the natural process of making a good, important decision. You're meant to let go of the emotion to make a logical, clear decision. Don't let a natural part of the process become exaggerated into imposter syndrome. This is simply the fear of the consequences of your decision. Stay out of the self-sabotage loop and let go of your fear. Let your authority, knowledge, and skills guide you. Want to learn more? Some people see "aging" as a dirty word but it is invertible. We will all age. But how quickly we age mentally, physically and physiologically differs from person to person. Even two people who are the exact same age, born at the exact same time, will age differently. We tend to think that aging is associated with a number or a change in appearance like grey hair, but aging involves much more than that. In this episode, we have asked Dana Remedios from Flora Health to dig deeper with us to talk about what is happening on an internal level of cellular aging. We are going to talk about preventive and supportive aging health, what is actually happening when we age and the importance of detoxification to slow down the aging process. In 2019, Jovana experienced a night of no sleep whatsoever but she was confident that she would get some sleep the following night. However, the next night was just the same — Jovana didn't get one minute of sleep. At this point, she started to panic, and her anxiety was further compounded by the fact she was a new mom. Jovana started to dread going to bed. She felt frustrated. She felt lonely. Fortunately, she found the Insomnia Coach YouTube channel and the Insomnia Coach podcast and started to realize that she was not alone and that her insomnia was not unusual or unique. Ultimately, Jovana stopped the endless sleep-related research and ongoing detective work. She stopped experimenting with medication and supplements. She started to remove herself from the process of sleep and began to accept that sleep cannot be controlled. At the same time, she committed to actions that helped her move toward the kind of life she wanted to live, even after difficult nights and even in the presence of difficult thoughts, feelings, and emotions. As a result, Jovana regained confidence in her natural ability to sleep and is once again living the kind of life she wants to live.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system. It is composed of nearly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands covering an area of more than 130,000 square miles. In recent times, it has been under unprecedented stress from ocean warming, tropical cyclones, sediment and nutrient runoff, marine pests, and ocean acidification. Among […]

This week I explored grief - the very natural but overlooked process that affects all of us - with Victoria Volk who specialises in coaching and supporting people who are struggling with loss. As Victoria puts forward, grief is so often narrowly associated with death, however it is much much wider than that as it is the result of any loss and so we incur grief more widely than we realise. Victoria shares the six common myths relating to grief and how they have been perpetuated intergenerationally, becoming part of our current culture resulting in a collective lack of emotional discernment and literacy. Victoria is really good at breaking down the dynamics of grief and walks us through the process to release its grip. This conversation covers a lot of ground, there's a lot of interesting emerging questions that come up, which really provides a full picture in this area that affects you, me and everyone.

Coral bleaching is happening five times more frequently than it did forty years ago. Its increasing occurrence is a result of global warming which leads to marine heat waves – periods of higher ocean water temperatures. Heat stress on living coral animals causes them to expel the algae that live symbiotically within the coral structure. […]

I first discovered El Limon on my trip to Guatemala in early 2013. At the time we'd never bought coffee directly from Guatemala, but since then this has become one of our strongest and most amazing Hasrelationships. My friend Raul (whom you may remember as the World Barista Champion of 2012!) in Guatemala had been buying coffee from these guys for a couple of years, and he was very keen for me to go and meet them. Located around an hour's drive to the east of Guatemala City in the small town of Palencia, this farm sits at an altitude of between 1,600 and 1,800 metres above sea level. It's owned by Guadalupe Alberto Reyes, who's also just known as Beto. He used to be the Mayor of Palencia and helped to build and develop the town. Palencia is not part of the eight regions of coffee as defined by Anacafé, but you can see a lot of development in the zone, and this farm is a perfect example of that development. I like being in places that are working to be hot and up-and-coming, as well as those that are established players. One of the main reasons I love El Limon is the desire to experiment; the farm mostly produces Bourbon and Caturra, but also plays around with a few other varietals. The experimentation comes from Beto's motivation; he has really focused on the farm over the last couple of years. He wanted to take more care in every step they take – from picking to processing, to shipping – and also take more care in the agronomy of the farm. This is very much a family affair: his wife and son also work on the farm, along with Beto's siblings. In fact, his son is studying agronomy at the local college for the benefit of the farm. The dedication and care devoted to each step of production is reflected in the fact that the family has built a new wet mill so that they can separate different lots and have control over the quality of the coffee. Previously the mill could process only one lot; now they are able to process many lots, and keep separate days' pickings and varietals in their own parcels. With this wet mill came another opportunity, which was for neighbours and people within the region of Palencia to bring their coffees to the mill where they could get them processed. Again, another sign that this is a hot spot for Guatemalan coffee. As time moves on, Beto doesn't want to stand still and is continuing to invest in the farm. He showed me lots of new planting during my recent visit, and a lot of building work around the wet mill. He is also building a QC lab and new accommodation for people working on the farm. It was a real hive of activity. Beto and his family have always been the perfect hosts whenever I visited the farm. They are such welcoming people and take great pride in showing me around their farm. One of the kindest things they've done for me is to welcome me into their home when I am visiting, and they always prepare the most amazing meals! When you travel as much as I do, mid-trip you find yourself longing for something big, home-cooked, and not from a restaurant or roadside pop-up cafe. Traditional Guatemalan meals are just the ticket, and I always look forward to the food – but mainly I look forward to the company. A few years ago and purely as an experiment, Raul and Beto decided they wanted to try doing something a bit different with a coffee. They tinkered with processing methods to see what happened and to see what they could get out of the coffee. They told me about it when I visited, and OF COURSE I tasted the coffee and OF COURSE I bought the coffee! They've kept on doing this for a few years and now in 2018 we're into year #4 with a mixed lot of San Ramon & Catimor. When farms are processing a coffee, they use a depulping machine that removes the cherry and most of the mucilage. There is a setting on this machine that adjusts how close to the bean it cleans, and therefore how much of the fruit is left behind. The farms Raul works with in Guatemala have, when doing honey processing, typically used a middle setting (Red Honey). However, Raul wanted to try a Black Honey. In Costa Rica, where these are most often produced, this would mean leaving all the mucilage and just taking off the fruit skin. However, when they have done Black Honey in Guatemala they have opened the depulper very wide, and some of the cherries have had the skin removed whilst a few have been left intact. I guess this means it's kind of a hybrid Black Honey x Natural Process. These were then left on patios for thirteen days, which is about the same amount of time that they use to dry their washed coffees. In the cup you'll get dark chocolate mixed in with roasted hazelnut. There's a should of lime zest but it swing back into the chocolate and nut to leave a long, sweet aftertaste. The possibility of transcending the limits of human intelligence in scientific discovery has led this young British scientist to leave academia and found a startup. Founder & CEO James Field and LabGenius are engineering the evolutionary process to create novel proteins that have remarkable qualities. I caught up with James at TEDMED and had a most revealing interview. Topics covered include: Sal Pitches the Syndicate Sal Introduces James Field, CEO & Founder of LabGenius James Field Was Inspired to Become a Scientist by Science Fiction Discovered Synthetic Biology by Participating in iGEM James Field Is the Second PhD from Imperial College on the Podcast, Beth Marcus Was the First “…the big flaw in my approach was that I was trying to apply rational engineering principles to nano-scale highly complex biological systems. And in my opinion, that's the wrong way to go about it.” “…if you start testing many designs in parallel and then selecting for the ones that work, you don't have to be smart.” “…LabGenius is a vehicle through which we can explore and harness evolution to develop new products.” Founding a Company Was the Best Way to Accelerate the Work that Excited Him Harnessing Evolution, but Doing it Better than the Natural Process “…in the case of natural evolution, the process doesn't get any smarter. But the beauty of our process is every single time we conduct one of these evolutionary cycles, we gain information that then enables us to be more intelligent about how we design these biological systems.” Concrete Applications “…because we're so mission-driven, we're gonna continue this mission until either we succeed or conclusively fail.” “…I was really banging my head against a brick wall until I found a group of investors who understand this to be an important part of the development of humanity…” Transcending Human Intelligence by Designing Evolutionary Processes for Scientific Discovery Is Astonishingly Promising James Field’s Parting Words

Why do people age so differently? Why are some people mentally sharp, energetic, and still excited about life while other people, much younger, are sick, exhausted all the time, inflamed, and always foggy? What’s going on? Sure, we are all born with a set of genes, but the way you live can influence how your genes express themselves. In many cases, lifestyle factors, i.e., choices can switch genes on and off. The idea that your metabolism slows with age is just another myth.

Episode 124: In this episode we dive into the world of Natural Process Farming with Bob Cannard. Bob grows highly diversified food crops by working with nature and natural systems. In Natural Process farming, crops are grown 50% for people and 50% for Nature. In this interview, Bob talks about the value of "nature support plants," why weeds need to be managed, not eradicated, the digestive systems of and in the soil, how to feed the soil, and why we should strive to give plants a "life of choice." Bob also tells us how home gardeners can begin practicing Natural Process Farming on a small scale. Bob has been farming for thirty years in Northern California and is the co-founder and operator of Green String Farm and the Green String Institute which offers internships in farming the Green String or Natural Process way.
Bob Cannard is one of the farmers that I think of as a first-generation visionary in the world of organic farming. For over three decades, he has been at the forefront of the local farming movement in California. Farming just north of San Francisco Bay at Green String Farm, Bob has a farming process that flies in the face of a lot of what I, at least, “know” to be true. His natural process farming system relies on sharing time, space, and resources with the weeds, insects, and other organisms that the rest of us consider problems, and using weeds, minerals, and native soil inoculants to encourage healthy plants that simply aren’t bothered by these “problem” plants and critters.
"Birth is a Natural Process" is a bold statement, today it is safer for a woman to give birth in El Salvador than it is to give birth in America. We will cover the insane practices of vaccinating and injecting pregnant women and the results of these medical interventions. You will learn the anatomy and physiology of how birth occurs. You will appreciate the process of the natural birth and what factors must be present for a smooth and safe birth process to occur.
