Episode 2590 - On this Wednesday's show, Vinnie Tortorich and Chris Shaffer share a talk about GLP-1s and how you don't know what you don't know, and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/2025/01/you-dont-know-what-you-dont-know-episode-2590 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE PODCAST EPISODES ON YOUTUBE - You Don't Know What You Don't Know Vinnie had an idea for a particular gym in his early years in Los Angeles. (2:00) Chris' goals this year. (10:00) Vinnie has a namesake! (15:00) Recent guest Joseph Raney (episode 2581, “Doing The Right Thing”) and his beautiful wife have a new baby, and he is named after Vinnie. Chris asks Vinnie's thoughts about the high percentage of people going on GLP-1s. (20:00) Time has shown that several predictions Vinnie has made over the years have been revealed to be on point. He is right about the effects of GLP-1s; the side effects will not be worth it. Muscle wasting, loose stools, constipation, and “bounce back” weight gain once off the drug are just the beginning. (36:00) More serious ones are obstructed bowel and gastroparesis (paralyzed intestines, so food doesn't pass through). There is muscle wasting, but don't forget, your heart is a muscle, too. When you regularly eat a lot of carbs, you don't realize how much of your brain fog, aches, pains, etc. are related. It becomes your “normal,” and you don't know what you don't know. Welcome to Restoring the Soul! In this episode, Michael and Peter Zaremba explore the essence of courage, not as an absence of fear, but as the willingness to take intentional action amidst it. Peter brings to light the profound acts of everyday bravery witnessed within his men's group, intertwining their discussions with the biblical narrative that emphasizes the value of such courage. They also reveal that courage is woven into the small, everyday fabrics of our lives—be it through acts of vulnerability, trust, or the simple yet profound steps toward spiritual growth. Michael likens courage to a muscle that gets stronger with practice, a concept they both relate to the importance of being fully present, accepting the present moment as is, and taking life's meaningful risks.CONTACT RESTORING THE SOUL:- Tweet us at @michaeljcusick and @PodcastRTS- Like us on Facebook- Follow us on Instagram & Twitter- Follow Michael on Twitter- Email us at info@restoringthesoul.com Thanks for listening!

GamerDude's recent first viewing of the classic movie Taxi Driver prompted this episode about making the "good guy" choices. He talks about how society in general, and he in particular, used to focus on the good guy - Superman - as the hero in films, stories and life, and how the world has evolved to the point where now, the Joker is the hero. He talks about how Taxi Driver, one of the first anti-hero movies, and The Godfather, one of the first movies where gangsters were not shown as purely villainous, helped change society's views on "good guys" and "doing the right thing." He talks about being brought up to "do right," and revisits the story of how he found a $10 bill on the street as a kid, and turned it into the police, because it was the right thing to do. He talks about how the default of most people when he was growing up was to do the "right thing," but over time, a selfishness has replaced the willingness to do the right thing in favor of a "what's in it for me?" attitude. He talks about how doing the right thing is not always convenient, but the overall benefit generally outweighs any minor inconvenience.  He talks about how this selfishness has changed society in personal, business and political settings, and how "getting away with something" is more important to some people than doing the right thing.  GamerDude also talks about the satisfaction he gets simply by doing the right thing, and can't understand people who make the choice to hurt, betray or cheat others.

GREAT LEADERS DO THE RIGHT THING. Poor leaders not only DON'T do the right thing, the teach and reinforce doing the wrong thing. Customer service is a critical skill, especially in retail where every day is a new handful of customers. Generally speaking this includes honesty, integrity and character. Fair pricing, consistent treatment and a willingness to admit wrong. Recently I had what I can describe as a less than pleasant and surprisingly poor representation of these qualities. Not only from the first line clerk but from the entire “chain of command” did I receive lies, threats, dishonest negotiation and an utter lack of concern for DOING THE RIGHT THING. Sadly, I am convinced, all of the tactics they tried to used would have worked on 70% or greater of their normal client base. Playing on the ignorance or unawareness of your customers IS NOT GOOD LEADERSHIP to train your staff and it's pitiful customer service. Watch the video if you want to know the story. Today, I tackle a pretty sensitive subject:  the difference between "Doing The Right Thing" and "Doing It Right." Let me be very clear:  I believe that working to save your marriage is heroic work.  It is pretty counter-cultural in our world of "throw away."  We do it with stuff and relationships.  And "No Fault Divorce" (better called "Unilateral Divorce") has made it simple.  Or at least it has been made to seem simple. I also believe that working on saving a marriage is courageous.  It's pretty scary to be in the middle of a crisis, and to CHOOSE to work on the relationship.  That is the definition of courage -- feeling fear, and choosing to act, anyway. Sometimes, I watch people who want to do the right thing, but they don't do it the right way.  "No Contact Rule," Reverse Psychology, hypnosis, spells. . . you name it, I see people try it. And I watch their efforts fail.  Their desire to change things is absolutely there.  But the approach is in trouble.  It kind of reminds me of deciding to diet, then choosing an ice-cream diet.  Probably not going to get the results you want (although it does sound delicious). Starting with the best of intentions is a great beginning point.  But it has to be followed with an approach that works. Let's talk about Doing The Right Thing, AND Doing It The Right Way.   RELATED RESOURCES No Contact Rule Is Crap So Is Reverse Psychology And Shortcuts Aren't And "Try Anything" Fails But This System Works
