Letitia Boardman talks with Jason Barnard about the power of delegating in building trust & confidence. Letitia Boardman is Director, Strategic Account Specialist at Microsoft and a Certified Coach. Letitia has over 25 years' experience in digital advertising and 17 years' experience of team leadership in learning and development, account management and marketing. This demonstrates her extensive skills as a motivational, versatile leader in various functions within a Fortune 500 company. Letitia's passion is people. She draws her energy from cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships with clients and internal stakeholders, developing and coaching others, and building and developing highly effective, multi-functional teams. She thrives on exceeding business goals and has a proven track record of increasing profitability.  A common problem in organizations is the reluctance of team leaders or managers to delegate tasks because they want to maintain control and fear that others will not meet their standards. This reluctance can inhibit team growth and innovation as it prevents employees from taking responsibility for tasks and developing their skills. To overcome this challenge, leaders need to build confidence in their team's abilities and foster a collaborative and empowering work environment. Society generally expects people to maintain behaviors and attitudes considered "appropriate" for the situations they face. But when a person is experiencing cancer, acting according to other people's expectations can be incredibly detrimental to their mental health. Toxic positivity is the belief that people should maintain a positive mindset across all situations and that, regardless of a situation's difficulty, people are expected to dismiss their negative emotions brought on by their distress. This belief is often pushed upon people experiencing difficult health journeys like cancer. However, toxic positivity is a belief that causes more harm than good.Life on Pause is a podcast created by and for young adults living with cancer. In this episode, guest speakers share their experiences with cancer and how they handled the expectations that others had of them due to their diagnosis. Additionally, they discuss how others reacted to their condition and the effects of grief tourism and society's glamorization of cancer. Young adults with cancer can undergo transformative experiences throughout their health journeys, and this episode dives into how these situations can have a lasting impact on their lives.Introducing Chelsea (0:30)Our host Corene starts the episode with an introduction for a special guest speaker, Chelsea Gomez. Chelsea is a two-time Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor, crazy, talented artist, and founder of #OhYoureSoTough. She hosts a youtube channel where she discusses her cancer experience and her Etsy shop where she creates gifts for cancer patients. She has also authored two books, "Cancer is an A*Hole" and "Stickers On A Bald Head." How Do You Deal with Toxic Positivity? (1:56)There cannot be light without dark, and negative emotions are necessary for people to experience positive emotions. Cancer survivors know this well, as they have had to deal with the ups and downs of their diagnosis. However, some people like to push the unhealthy idea of toxic positivity and insist that people maintain a positive mindset while rejecting negative emotions. Today's speakers discuss their encounters with toxic positivity and how they have dealt with people who push this inauthentic optimism. What Do You Say? (10:11)It can be challenging to navigate relationships when diagnosed with cancer. Many people don't know what to say when faced with the reality of knowing someone with this diagnosis. Our guests discuss how their experiences with other people changed as a result of their cancer. Additionally, they discuss the difficulty and emotional exhaustion that comes with sharing their authentic selves with others while they are experiencing cancer.Handling People and Personal Growth (18:55)Young adults with cancer carry a heavy burden, and many others their age fail to comprehend the concept of experiencing such a life-altering diagnosis. As such, dealing with others can come with unique challenges for people impacted by cancer. Our speakers discussed times when they noticed their differences in perspective compared to their peers and how cancer led to their personal changes and growth.Putting on a Facade and the Grief Timeline (28:30)Toxic positivity can be viewed as putting on a facade to lead others into believing you are happy. This show of happiness is especially expected in cancer survivors. But even after someone is in remission, they can still be experiencing grief and other negative emotions brought on by their cancer journey. From near-death experiences to traumatic formative years, our guests share how their cancer effects have had long-lasting impacts on their lives and outlooks.Therapy and Advice (33:50)Therapy and other helpful resources can provide support for young adults undergoing cancer. But while organizations...

Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies

How do you find your ideal clients that are a good fit for your agency? How do you avoid taking on clients who aren't a good fit? Often times we take on the wrong clients because we're too eager for the work or because we didn't screen them thoroughly enough. Learn how to avoid these mistakes and the questions you need to ask before you even begin working with a new client. In today's episode, we'll cover: How do you keep your agency the right size for you? 3 questions to ask prospective agency clients. How do you deal with clients who just don't fit? On today's show, I talked to Erin Bailey, partner at the digital marketing agency, Matrixx. Erin has spent the past eleven years at Matrixx, first as part of the team and later as a partner. She has seen the agency evolve from a team of three people designing MySpace pages for clients to one that works with common household brands such as Coleman, Zest, and Hefty. While other agencies have a vision of becoming the biggest and most well-known, the Matrixx partners choose to stay the size they are. Erin is here to share why and how they made this decision. How Do You Keep Your Agency the Right Size for You? Erin says, in order to keep your agency at its current size, you have to be selective about who you choose to work with. Some agencies want to grow and add to their team. But if you're happy where you're at you need to know your team's bandwidth and then be more selective about what clients you choose to work with. "Everyone makes mistakes," she explains, and usually one of the biggest is taking on the wrong clients out of desperation. When you have a clear vision for your agency and you understand what clients want from you, you'll find the right balance between size and success. The best way to accomplish this is: Be honesty with yourself about the capacity you and your team have to take on new work. Have a clear understanding from the clients about the type and amount of work they need. Honesty with yourself about your ability to meet the client's expectations. Erin encourages agencies not to rush into large contracts with new clients. Instead, agree to work on a specific project for the client. This gives you and the client the opportunity to each evaluate the fit before entering into a contract for additional services. "There is a fine line between making sure you keep the business healthy and spreading yourself too thin," she says. 3 Questions to Ask Prospective Agency Clients So, if you are being selective about the clients you take, what are the questions you should ask them? These questions are an important part of the qualification process at Matrixx: What's your goal? This is the first question to ask, as the client may be seeking services beyond your normal scope of business. What's your timing? Does the client have a deadline that will pull your team away from the work for other clients? Is it feasible with your current workload? What's your budget? Erin says this is often the most difficult question for clients to answer. If the client claims they don't have a budget, usually providing a range will get them thinking. You can also try this tactic for getting the client's budget in order to make sure they can afford the solutions you offer. How Do You Deal with Clients Who Just Don't Fit? As Erin says, mistakes happen when selecting clients. Sometimes it's overeagerness, and sometimes it's being afraid to say no. And yet, in other cases, the person you were working with leaves the company, and their replacement doesn't have the same vision. "Don't be afraid to say no to a client," she says. "There are other companies out there that you can work with." If you find yourself in a contract with a client that isn't a good fit, Erin suggests: Ride out the contract, but don't pitch a new contract. The loss initial loss of revenue might be hit but reframe your thinking and remember the loss also frees you up to work with more of the right clients. It's OK to fire a client -- it can be very freeing. Continue being honest and transparent; and encourage the same from your clients. Erin explains when the fit isn't good, usually, both parties know. If you're communicating often and identify it early on it's easier to work through. Use your time and energy wisely. Don't target small businesses with the notion that smaller clients mean less work. A lot of times the small clients with small budgets often have big expectations and demands. Want to Help Your Team Be More Efficient and Scale Agency Faster? How Do You Deal With Toxic People in Your Life?

Sometimes we have people in our lives who seem to create difficulty wherever they go. This can be for a variety of reasons including the fact that WE could be actually attracting such folks into our experiences. For now, let’s assume there are some people who simply live unhappy and unfulfilled lives. In their search for feelings of significance they become a drain to others! Being in their presence diminishes hope, poisons happiness and upsets relationships. Their influence quietly becomes a centerpiece or even an obsession in our daily experience. What do we do? Walk away?  Tell them off?  Mount an attack of our own? What is the Christian thing to do? How does the Bible guide us through such extreme circumstances of dealing with toxic people? What about turning the other cheek? When faced with toxic people, it seems one of the “go to” Scriptures for any Christian is Jesus' famous words in Matthew 5 where he advised us to “turn the other cheek.”  The assumed implication here is that we are supposed to rise above whatever the demeaning behavior or words are.  We are to be the bigger person and “just take it.”  While we are supposed to be gracious in such difficulties, the idea of becoming someone’s doormat is far from what Jesus was teaching us. How did Jesus himself manage the toxic accusations and behaviors of those who sought to undermine his ministry?  In the end, we know he absorbed their vitriol.  He willingly experienced torment, torture, crucifixion and death.  Amazingly, he willingly did these things for the benefit of those who hated him!  However, during his 3 1/2-year ministry, Jesus handled those same people and their anger in a very different way.  He talked to them and responded to their questions.  He witnessed the truth to them.  Jesus did NOT enter into their game.  He did NOT absorb their accusations and insults; he handled them instead.  Jesus never considered himself to be the person they accused him of being.  He always saw himself through the eyes of his Father. Our natural reactions are likely not righteously appropriate. Understanding how Jesus handled the toxic behavior of those who so vehemently wanted to ruin him is a huge step.  It gives us a basis for managing the difficult relationships we undoubtedly have to cope with.  We learn our natural reactions to toxicity are usually not the healthiest responses.  We need to become aware of the difference between emotional convenience and what is righteously appropriate. Check out our September 23, 2019 podcast, “How Do You Deal with Toxic People?” for more.  We address several key principles to deal with toxicity and how to be conduit for communicating through the mess.  We talk about the differences between absorbing and handling the abuse.  Most importantly, we talk about the fact that we have a choice.  Will you continue to welcome toxic behavior whenever it shows up, or will you choose to set boundaries and repel its poison?  You decide!

Making all the right moves from the very beginning can mean all the difference between a successful Amazon seller and a flop. While a rare occurrence, new sellers have been known to sweep in and totally dominate their niches. However, achieving this feat never comes easy and can only be done by choosing a solid product to source and employing a winning strategy on Amazon. In episode 178 of the AMPM Podcast, host Manny Coats interviews Amazon seller Janine Hong, a relative newcomer to the Amazon world that has absolutely crushed it by using a unique Amazon sponsored ad strategy and leveraging the power of the Helium 10 tools suite. She has advocated the significant role that Helium 10 has played in her growth as an Amazon business owner. During 2017, she was able to earn over $400,000 and is positioned to do around $2 million by the end of 2018. In using Helium 10 tools like Magnet, Cerebro, Scribbles, and others, Janine has increased her conversion rate from low teens to 27% and 30% on two of her main products. Additionally, she runs a terrific PPC campaign for her storefront, which is one of the most significant factors to maintaining her #1 position in her niche. Besides taking advantage of Helium 10 tools, she has created her own PPC optimization strategy known as the “Stampede Method” that helps her to blow away her competition. This strategy allows her only to have to spend about 30 minutes a week adjusting her Amazon sponsored ads. Check out our YouTube channel for more video podcasts. Having a “calling” is great, but HOW DO YOU DEAL when that calling leads to a more full or “busy” life? How do you speak truth lies of guilt and not-enoughness or you-should-stop-ness? And how do you know when to actually pause or stop? It can all get very confusing, right? When work seems to come up against our roles and duties as a wife and mother, it can be hard to separate lies from truth. How we as women deal with the tension between two kinds of work we are called to - motherhood and the “other work” we may do - says a lot about what we believe. Jenn Marasco believes women can mother with integrity and serve their families THROUGH their work, even if it means life looks less full or dinner is less consistent. The way she and her husband are raising their four children with honesty and openness is refreshing and encouraging! Jenn runs a successful health coaching and wellness business empowering women with truth, support and community on their journeys to health in their mind, soul and body.
