We caught up a little later and you know I started talking about this thing.
Was einige Streitgespräche in Unternehmen abkürzen könnte. On this week's episode of The SaaS Revolution Show, I talk with Jonathan Kim, CEO and Founder of Appcues about the user onboarding that acquires, wins and retains customers. While working as a front-end engineer at HubSpot, Jonathan got increasingly frustrated by the fact that B2B companies didn't have the sort of seamless self-service onboarding that the likes of Facebook or Twitter had. Whether it was salespeople, account managers or customer success reps, they all did the same thing day in and day out manually onboarding users. Before long Jonathan decided to leave HubSpot and pursue finding a solution on his own, fulfilling his dream to be an entrepreneur. That was five years ago and Appcues was born. Today, the company based out of Boston has 55 employees and has just raised a Series A funding. Listen on to hear: Why user onboarding is important How to go about creating great user onboarding What are the effects of good user onboarding Appcues Director of Marketing, Ty Magnin will be joining us on the SaaStock 18 growth stage where he will talk about product-led growth. For the three days of the conference, he will be joined by speakers such as Morten Primdahl, Co-founder, Zendesk; Heather Zynczak, CMO, Pluralsight, Corey Thomas, CEO Rapid7 and many more. Grab a ticket for the conference now and sign up for the bootcamps and workshops we will be running on Monday the 15th, which are limited in capacity https://www.saastock.com/tickets User onboarding is such an important part of any SaaS success that we are collaborating on the creation of the most extensive onboarding book to date. We will be presenting 30 case studies from companies like Intercom, Drift, Buffer, Clearbit and Typeform among others during SaaStock18. We still have a few more case study slots so if you are particularly proud of your user onboarding you should get in touch. Be quick and Send an email to irina@saastock.com stating your interest.
If you’re a marketer, you probably spend a huge amount of your time slaying your acquisition strategy. The usual story goes something like this: You go behind a myriad of channels, spend heaps of dollars, craft the perfect message and call-to-action and wait for your potential buyers to land on your website. Several optimizations, personalizations, and conversations later, the visitor converts into a user. Phew! Happy ending? No. In a span of one week, around 86% of converted leads drop off and never come back (12.18 of this episode). Two words that can prevent this leakage from happening – Great Onboarding. Let’s look at some non-vanity metrics that can translate your acquisition costs into ROI – Activation, Retention, Revenue, and Referral. They are all by-products of one single thing – Onboarding. Limited to tooltips, siloed help centers, and transaction mailers, onboarding today has been tossed between customer success, product management, and product marketing. And most often, that one crucial metric that can have the biggest impact of onboarding goes unmeasured and unoptimized. Close the gaps in onboarding by tuning into this action-packed episode. We chat with Ty on: How GTM strategies today have transformed from an enterprise-based to consumer-based approach Onboarding in a world of self-service and freemium experience The ideal owner of onboarding: Whose court is the ball in, really? The metric that has the most impact on MRR and why it’s not acquisition or retention The nuance between user onboarding and activation The analogy between onboarding and dating How Canva gets onboarding right The written word and why it’s the most important quality for marketers

Today on the Startup Chat, Steli and Hiten talk about what user testing is, why it’s important, and some tips on how to do it right. This comes after a series of blog post Hiten and his business partner have been working on around the topic. After user testing products like Duolingo and Grammarly, Hiten shares what he’s learned from the process, including what works so well for those products and what could be done to improve the overall user experience. Hiten also shares some tips on how you can user test your own products the right way and, if you choose to, test those of your competitors as well. Time Stamped Show Notes: 00:00 About today’s topic. 00:44 Why this topic was chosen for this episode. 02:36 What user testing means. 03:43 Hiten talks about the user test he carried out on Grammarly. 04:19 How much the study cost. 05:10 Why it’s a good idea to user test your competitor's products. 06:08 Lessons Hiten learned from user testing Grammarly. 10:40 Tips to help you user test your products or those of your competitors. 3 Key Points: User testing is the ability to see how people react to an experience. If you're trying to figure out what your users hate about your product, you need to ask them. User testing allows you to understand what’s working and what’s not. [0:00:00] Steli Efti: Hey everybody, this is Steli Efti. [0:00:03] Hiten Shah: And this is Hiten Shah. Today on the Start-up Chat, we're gonna talk about a series of blog posts I've been doing with my business partner Marie, around user testing and the value of it. It was a hard one for us to share, and we'll talk about why. Steli, you wanted to talk about it, so I'd love to get your take, as always, because apparently you're reading my crap. [0:00:26] Steli Efti: Yeah, dude. You're killing it with product habits. Again, for people that are listening. I'm pretty sure that people that listen to the Start-up Chat are already subscribed to Product Habits, but for those that are new that haven't, go to ProductHabits.com and subscribe. I've been on your email list for a long time now, and the content you're sharing right now is the best content you've ever shared, in my opinion. Really it's- [0:00:51] Hiten Shah: Wow, thank you. [0:00:52] Steli Efti: It is killer. It is really, really fucking good. The emails that you send are really good. I know that you and Marie, you've kind of gone from a model of considering having a content team that writes these emails, to getting back to the two of you writing these emails, and spending a lot of time back and forth until you get it right. And it really fucking shows. It's unfortunate, but there's no shortcut to excellence and to greatness. You have to put in the work. I love the new format right now, the new thing that you guys do where you do these research studies on other companies, right. On their products, on their user onboarding. You do really deep dives and then you share the deep dives and the learnings that you have with brands that are pretty popular. And are teaching even how they could do things better. So I love that content. It's incredibly insightful. I wanted to pick the last one you did on Grammarly, and share some of the insights you learned there. And then for people that want to learn more, they can just go to ProductHabits.com and read these user research or product research studies in much more depth and detail. But let's talk a little bit about user onboarding and what you've learned through doing these deep dives so far. What are some of the key learnings that you guys took out of it as takeaways? [0:02:16] Hiten Shah: Yeah, absolutely. A couple things. One, for those of you that don't know what user testing is,

Jonathan Kim took an interesting path to becoming the founder of a tech company. A journalism major at BU, Jonathan taught himself how to code before becoming a software engineer at HubSpot. It was there that he identified the problem companies face with onboarding users to platforms. Instead of wanting to solve this problem with people, he wanted to solve it with product. To solve this he started Appcues, a user onboaring company for software companies. In this episode, Jonathan shares amongst other things: What most companies get wrong about user onboarding When companies should start automating user onboarding What frustrates users the most How to use UX to gain the user’s trust Why he wouldn’t focus on finding a co-founder if starting over Why Appcues engineers also handle customer support Links from this episode: David Cancel Fasten Wistia Litmus Firebase Keen IO Price Intelligently Buffer’s transparency dashboard Hojoko The Advantage Lean In If you liked this episode: Follow the podcast on Twitter Subscribe on iTunes or your podcast app and write a review Get in touch with feedback, ideas, or to say hi: nic {AT} startupbostonpodcast [DOT] com Music by: Broke For Free

Matt Report - A WordPress podcast for digital business owners
Attention WordPress agency owners…or hopeful owners! In today's episode, I sit down with Jennifer Bourn of Bourn Creative and hash out what it takes to go from freelancer mode to agency mode. One of the lessons I'd like you to take away from this chat is sharpening your onboarding process. That subtle, yet oh-so-important phase from the first e-mail contact up to price negotiations round. We'll cover that and more in today's episode! Interview with Jennifer Bourn Can you purchase one specific software package and get the magic key to organizing your business, getting more clients and generating more revenue? Acquiring a software package is just a the first step to creating a path or process called client onboarding.
