The story of the Kissel brothers, two wealthy siblings murdered on opposite sides of the world within three years of each other. Robert Kissel, a Merrill Lynch executive in Hong Kong, was killed by his wife Nancy in November 2003 in a case that became known internationally as the Milkshake Murder. Less than three years later, his older brother Andrew, a Greenwich, Connecticut real estate developer facing federal fraud charges, was found stabbed to death in his own home. This episode covers both cases in full: the collapse of Robert and Nancy's marriage inside Hong Kong's expatriate finance world, Nancy's two trials and her conviction, overturned conviction, and second conviction, and the murder-for-hire investigation into who killed Andrew, including the eventual pleas, verdicts, and the question of who actually held the knife. The episode closes with where the case stands today and where to watch more, including Dateline NBC, 48 Hours Mystery, American Greed, and the 2008 Lifetime movie The Two Mr. Kissels starring John Stamos. Their accomplishments are extraordinary, but their stories, memories, and perspective on the sport are what make this conversation truly special. This episode is a chance to sit down with two people who did not simply compete in trapshooting. They helped define an era of it.

From there, the conversation dives into how men and women fundamentally misinterpret each other's behavior: why a man asking "where do you want to go?" on a date is an act of generosity (not indecision), why touching an upset man can feel physically painful to him due to adrenaline, and why men "ignoring" their partners is often testosterone-driven focus, not disregard.Timestamps:00:00 — Intro: Meet Allison Armstrong, 35 Years Studying Men02:30 — The Question That Started It All: "What If Men Are Responding to Women?"05:00 — The Frog Farmer Story: Turning Princes Into Frogs08:00 — Why "I'm Not Ready to Get Married" Isn't Personal (But Not Marrying You Is)10:30 — The "I'm Sorry I Hurt Your Feelings" Reframe13:00 — Why Men Calculate "Is This Worth It?" “Send Coach John a message”I found a fabulous post from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13), which by the way every post he puts out there is to help others. He's the author of one of my favorite books, “Hurdle-isms - Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball.”  Check Coach out along with his book too!  Two things I found from a recent post of his all dealing with some of his connections to Alcoholics Anonymous. First, he reminds us “by the way, it costs $0 to cheer for others.”  What an amazing and powerful reminder for all of us.  In a world where things seem to be crazier and crazier each and every day (especially in our country due to one person and his out of touch supporters), we all can do something to cheer on others and lift them up!  There was also this quote as part of his post too: “If you think that you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito!”   That one for sure hammers home the point about we are never too small to make a difference for others.  My friends, keep finding things to remind you about the great things you can accomplish for others and that will lead you to doing the same for yourself too!   Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

Show Notes: https://www.wetflyswing.com/970Sponsors: Redd's Flies, Fly Fish with Me Utah, Golden Fly Shop, Gallatin River LodgeToday we're bringing back one of the most-listened-to conversations in the Wet Fly Swing archive with Craig Mathews, a lifelong angler, author, conservationist, and founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. Craig has spent nearly seven decades fly fishing, and in this Re-Release episode from 2023, we cover everything from Yellowstone caddis hatches and trout fishing to conservation, fly tying, and some unforgettable stories from his years in West Yellowstone.Craig takes us back to his early days in Michigan and the move that eventually landed him in Montana. What was supposed to be a one-year adventure turned into a new life when Craig became the police chief of West Yellowstone. A few years later, while making $9,000 a year as police chief, he started a wholesale fly-tying operation that employed people with disabilities. That business became Blue Ribbon Flies in 1979 and eventually grew to four fly shops.Blue Ribbon Flies became a gathering place for anglers, fly tiers, writers, and some of the biggest personalities in fly fishing. Craig shares stories about Jack Gartside, Gary LaFontaine, and the constant flow of people through the shop. He remembers Gary as someone who could walk into a fly shop and immediately get everyone fired up about fishing, insects, and fly patterns.Conservation is another major part of Craig's story. He talks about his longtime friendship with Yvon Chouinard and how their shared commitment to giving back helped launch 1% for the Planet. Craig explains how businesses can support approved conservation organizations and shares examples of projects that have protected habitat and public access around the Madison River and Montana. Then we get into one of Craig's specialties: caddis and fishing caddis.Craig breaks down several important Yellowstone-area caddis hatches and explains how anglers can better identify what trout are actually eating. His biggest lesson is simple: slow down and watch the river. Instead of immediately stepping into the water and casting, spend a few minutes observing rise forms, insect activity, and what's moving through the water.Craig also explains why fly pattern is often blamed when presentation is the real problem. Getting closer to the fish, choosing the right tippet, controlling drag, and making accurate casts can matter far more than constantly changing flies. We also cover the X-Caddis, Iris Caddis, spent caddis patterns, pheasant tail flies, and why Craig uses pheasant tail for much more than nymphs. Finally, Craig takes us into the wilder side of old West Yellowstone, sharing stories from his police chief days involving motorcycle gangs, organized crime, and the relationships he built with people passing through town. Decades later, one of those former encounters even turned into a day of fishing together. This episode is part fly-fishing lesson, part Yellowstone history, and part reminder of how much can happen when you spend a lifetime paying attention to rivers, insects, conservation, and people.

Do you suffer with anxiety, depression, or another mental illness? Millions of people do. The usual treatment is a prescription medication. If that doesn't work, the healthcare provider may offer a different one. Diet is certainly not the first topic on the provider's mind. But what if, in addition to appropriate pharmacological treatment, you were able to nourish, protect and energize your brain with your diet? Our guest offers evidence that you can heal your mind with a ketogenic approach to eating. We need to acknowledge that this approach is quite different from the plant-rich eating pattern advocated by last week's guest, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz. Humans around the world have adopted a wide range of dietary regimens that support health. Listen to Dr. Georgia Ede explain why she thinks a paleo or ketogenic diet is helpful for bolstering brain health. At The People's Pharmacy, we strive to bring you up to date, rigorously researched insights and conversations about health, medicine, wellness and health policies and health systems. While these conversations intend to offer insight and perspective, the content is provided solely for informational and educational purposes. Please consult your healthcare provider before making any changes to your medical care or treatment. How You Can Listen You could listen through your local public radio station or get the live stream at 7 am EST on Saturday, August 22, 2026, through your computer or smart phone (wunc.org). Here is a link so you can find which stations carry our broadcast. If you can't listen to the broadcast, you may wish to hear the podcast later. You can subscribe through your favorite podcast provider, download the mp3 using the link at the bottom of the page, or listen to the stream on this post starting on August 24, 2026. Can You Heal Your Brain with Food? We live in stressful times. More than 50 million Americans take prescription antidepressants, and millions more are on anti-anxiety medication. Unfortunately, while these drugs can be life savers, they don't always work as well as we would like. In some cases, antidepressants are only about 10 percent more effective than a placebo. Dr. Georgia Ede is a psychiatrist who began her investigation into how food affects mental health serendipitously. She was experimenting with her own diet to address some physical health issues. She used a food and symptom journal to discover the best dietary choices for her own health. To her surprise, the “upside-down” diet that helped her feel better physically also improved her sleep and her ability to focus. She started looking into evidence that a paleo or ketogenic diet could benefit people with mental health challenges. What Is Metabolic Psychiatry? There is evidence that people consuming unhealthy diets full of fast food or ultra-processed products are more susceptible to symptoms of anxiety (Nutrition Neuroscience, May 19, 2026). On the other hand, people participating in a supervised weight-loss program using either a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet or a low-fat diet reported improvements in mood (Obesity, Jan. 2007). Those on the ketogenic (Atkins) diet reported less hunger and fewer unpleasant symptoms. Researchers have also tested a ketogenic diet in people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (Psychiatry Research, May 2024).  These volunteers also had metabolic disorders, including obesity, which is often an unwanted effect of the ant-psychotic drugs they take to treat their condition. This four-month pilot study saw participants lose weight, reduce insulin resistance and lower their triglycerides. Even more impressive, they had a 32 percent reduction in the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale. They also reported better sleep and improved life satisfaction. You may find this recent article from National Geographic of interest: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/health/article/metabolic-psychiatry-keto-diet-brain-science. Unfortunately, it might be behind a paywall. How Does Food Affect Our Brains? Most of our body tissues are accustomed to getting energy from glucose, with the help of insulin. However, years of exposure to high levels of these compounds often makes the tissues less sensitive to the effects of insulin. The consequence is that the body–and therefore also the brain–is flooded with high levels of glucose. This exposure can result in the formation of advanced glycation end products in the brain, which can be harmful. The brain evolved to use either glucose or a flexible mix of glucose and ketones. These are the result of burning fat rather than sugar. A paleo diet will naturally provide more ketones and less glucose. Dr. Ede and colleagues have found that a ketogenic diet can be very helpful even for people with relatively serious mental problems. In one study (which was not placebo-controlled), patients hospitalized with severe persistent mental illness were given a ketogenic diet. Most did well and had significant improvements in their depression and psychosis symptoms (Frontiers in Psychiatry, July 6, 2022). Is Ketosis Dangerous? Ketosis itself simply means that you are burning fat as fuel rather than sugar. This can be achieved by following a diet that is high in animal fat, with moderate amounts of animal protein and low amounts of carbohydrate derived from plant foods. Ketosis is not inherently dangerous. However, Dr. Ede urges anyone who wants to heal their brain with diet to ask a healthcare provider to monitor and supervise the process. Prescription drug doses may require adjustment, and people may need support as they adopt a paleo or ketogenic diet. That is why this is not a do-it-yourself approach. Is Coconut Oil Helpful to Heal Your Brain? Dr. Ede described the benefits of medium-chain fatty acids produced in digesting fat. You may recall a video from a few years back in which a doctor described helping her husband recover from Alzheimer disease, at least partially, by giving him coconut oil. Some researchers consider Alzheimer disease to be a form of diabetes because the AD brain does not metabolize sugar effectively. Dr. Ede suggested that the benefits may be real, but getting medium-chain fatty acids from the diet rather than be taking coconut oil might be preferable. After Dr. Ede told us about Fran, who overcame significant memory problems by changing to a ketogenic diet, we hope there will be trials on this. Future Trials on Diet to Heal Your Brain Dietary trials are notoriously difficult to conduct. People often don't stick to the prescribed diet, and it can be difficult to find an appropriate placebo for comparison. Nonetheless, Dr. Ede is looking forward to results from a large trial of the keto diet for people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. This study is being conducted in Australia. This Week’s Guest Dr. Georgia Ede is a globally recognized expert in nutritional and metabolic psychiatry. Her 25+ years of clinical experience include 7 years at Harvard University, where she was the first psychiatrist to offer nutrition-based approaches to mental health conditions. Dr. Ede co-authored the first inpatient study of the ketogenic diet for serious mental illness, developed the first medically accredited course in ketogenic diets for mental health, and is a recipient of the Baszucki Metabolic Mind Award. Current research collaborations include pilot studies in pediatric bipolar disorder, adult ADHD, and PTSD. In this episode, Kevin is joined by Suzie Bishop and Sam Shriver to revisit situational leadership and discuss why this decades-old model may be more relevant than ever. I sat down with Thomas Smith, founder of skinatwork.com. Here are 3 takeaways. 1. Simple is a strategy. Nearly 70% of Thomas's customers buy a full kit on the first visit. Simplicity is doing the hard work so your customer doesn't have to. 2. Know your numbers. Acquisition cost. Lifetime value. Repeat rate. Chase one metric and wonder why you're losing. 3. Build for a need, not a moment. Thomas launched during the pandemic , when everyone said don't. He did it anyway because the customer pain was real. That's the only reason that matters.   --- In Thomas Smith's words: I've been in skincare for 30 amazing years working for some of the most exciting brands and retailers in beauty: on the sales floor, in the spa, as a buyer, developer, marketer, entrepreneur and lover of all things skin. I spent a decade in NYC at Saks and Sephora, a decade in Colorado creating formulas for dry, sensitive skin at my own stores called MELT and a decade in LA marketing or developing products for Murad, Meaningful Beauty and Anastasia Beverly Hills, to name a few. My mom loves to tell people that I started as a cosmetics stock boy in Saks Denver, I prefer to say that I didn't choose skincare, it chose me. Over the years, I have watched as skincare has gotten increasingly complicated. So many steps, so many new products and so much time, money, brain space and energy spent trying to decode it all. Trust me, the amount of choice overwhelms me, too! Whenever I visit family or friends, they always ask for my advice on what to buy, when to use, how to use and in what combinations and it got me to thinking… how could I create the simplest, and I mean THE SIMPLEST, most efficacious skincare system possible for my mom, my sister, all of my peeps (including myself!) for skin of all ages, stages and concerns? S8 E10: Making Fitness Part of Your Life w/Fitness Coach Kyle FitzsimonsIn our final episode of Season 8, we speak with Boston-based fitness coach at EverybodyFights and Life Time gym, Kyle Fitzsimons, about how adults can integrate fitness into their life. As a young person, fitness may be built into your schedule and routine, especially for those involved in athletics. However, once that structure goes away, individuals enter adulthood where there is a need to figure out how fitness can become part of one's life in a way that feels fulfilling and can bring social connection. In this thoughtful discussion, we talk with Kyle about how to approach finding one's own version of a fitness routine and community, as there can be a variety of options to choose from and/or to create with others. We also discuss sport psychology and executive function concepts that can be helpful. Kyle is an avid and incredibly seasoned runner (including marathons); however, our discussion connects with individuals across all facets of fitness and fitness classes, whether it be strength training, yoga, cardio, and so on. We discuss the physiological, mental, emotional, and relational benefits of a fitness community, which may be more important than ever given the widespread societal challenges with mental health and social isolation. We are just so grateful for Kyle to join us to bring to life her experiences and wisdom gained throughout her vast experiences not only as an athlete but also as a trainer and fitness coach bringing joy, inspiration, and connection to so many people in the Boston area. Taking one step at a time, despite feeling vulnerable at first, may ultimately lead to life-changing experiences of embracing a fitness community.Summary:The holistic benefits of fitness routinesThe gift of a positive fitness communityThe transition out of structured sports team environmentsExecutive function strategies for motivation and goal achievementWorking through feeling vulnerable around othersThe Reid Connect-Ed Podcast is hosted by Siblings, educational therapist, Alexis Reid, M.A. and licensed psychologist, Dr. Gerald Reid, produced by CyberSound Recording Studios in Boston, MA and original music is written and recorded by Gerald Reid (www.Jerapy.com).*Please note that different practitioners may have different opinions- this is our perspective and is intended to educate you on what may be possible.Streaming everywhere (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, etc.)Follow us on Instagram @ReidConnectEdPodcastShow notes & Transcripts: https://reidconnect.com/reid-connect-ed-podcast

How can we help save the lives of our pregnant and post-partum patients?  What about doing more than just resolving their reported symptoms? We can't wait for you to hear this conversation with Katherine Sylvester - she has spent her entire career challenging the status quo and pushing for better results for her patients.  After experiencing postpartum preeclampsia herself, Katherine began asking how wearable data could help women recognize problems earlier, advocate for themselves and make better decisions during pregnancy and postpartum. That eventually grew into Operation M.I.S.T. and her work helping women use their own data to better understand their bodies. And that's just one part of this conversation! We talk about:

Next personal training seminar Tampa September 25/26.That deep “right there” ache in your low back can make you feel stuck, especially when stretching and foam rolling do nothing. We walk you through a practical way to determine when the quadratus lumborum (QL) might be involved and how to stop guessing with your hands. If you work with clients or you're trying to manage your own low back tightness, this is a clear, anatomy-based approach you can use immediately. We demo a QL release in a prone position, including the detail most people miss: you have to get under the erectors and direct pressure toward the spine, not just press straight down on the surface. Then we layer in the simplest performance upgrade we know for soft tissue work, 360-degree breathing. When someone can breathe into the back and sides instead of only the chest, the tissue response changes fast, and the release becomes more comfortable and more effective. We also compare positioning options, because bodies are different. Side-lying can give better leverage for bigger bodies or anyone who's hard to access prone, and we share a third variation using a supported deep squat with a reach. Finally, we connect the dots for runners and high-intensity training: the QL is a frontal plane stabilizer, so repetitive impact and stabilization demands can keep it irritated unless you address it directly and safely with the right landmarks. If this helped you think differently about low back pain, subscribe, share the show with a training partner, and leave a quick review so more people can find it. Hey friends! Today's episode has a new-to-me toy up front and some podcast housekeeping on the back half – all recorded with a raging case of the anxious parent giggidies, because my son Atticus had a big audition and I was minutes away from finding out whether we were doing tears of joy or tears of sadness. Baby's first Cloudflare Tunnel Not a sponsor, not an ad – just a thing I'd heard about for years and finally had a reason to use. Here's what we get into: The problem that sent me down this road: I wanted push-button status pages for clients that pull from one source of truth – not just "is the box up," but actual narrative on where a project is at Why the off-the-shelf status page tools weren't the right shape, and why "just stick it on a web server" was a non-starter for a scraper-and-AI-slop-crawler internet The auth paths I tried and abandoned before Cloudflare Tunnels entered the chat How Cloudflare Access one-time PINs put a guard out front – and what happens when fartface@meowmix.com tries to log in My Chick-fil-A-order-tracker dreams for multi-phase assessments, and why I think it could kill a bunch of clogged-up email threads Why the code isn't public yet (it's public-facing infrastructure I haven't hardened, and I've got hunches about where the holes are) – but reach out if you want to build something similar and I'm happy to share privately Where tunnels fit generally: when something genuinely needs to be reachable, but you'd rather not hand it a public IP or expose RDP to the whole internet. It doesn't replace Twingate for me, but it fills a different slot nicely Bonus tangent: why Claude has become my long-drive road companion, and five enlightening minutes I spent learning how water towers work Housekeeping: a refreshed jingle and a brand new bumper A quick history of the 7MS jingle – from just me and an acoustic guitar, to a Fiverr band, to now Why "security is hard, so let's assume we're probably going to get pwned by noon" has aged frighteningly well (see also: AI agents teaching each other to find previously unknown vulns) Meet Jacob Davis, the guitar teacher the algorithm dropped in my lap, who recorded a gorgeous all-strings arrangement of the jingle and about 45 seconds of fingerpicking diddly goodness for our new outro bumper. Stick around to the end and give it a listen – and if you're in the market for internet guitar lessons, he rules And over on 7MinSec.club this week I show off VoiceInk, a private, local voice dictation utility for Mac that Paul the Unstoppable turned me on to. After spending decades accumulating wealth, shifting into retirement spending can be more difficult than expected. For many retirees, the challenge is not simply determining whether they have enough assets. It is becoming comfortable using those assets without feeling that they are jeopardizing the future. Derek Gabrielsen, CRPC®, and Dave Abate, CFP®, discuss the psychology behind this transition and the role a financial plan can play in evaluating spending decisions. The conversation covers retirement anxiety, individualized spending goals, stress testing, withdrawal sequencing, tax efficiency, lifestyle expenses, and the balance between enjoying wealth today and preserving assets for future generations. This episode offers perspective for investors considering what they ultimately want their retirement assets to accomplish and how a financial plan can help bring structure to those decisions.

As we continue to see specialty coffee shops grow and expand into the furthest reaches of the globe, one thing remains an enduring value to customers. That feeling of belonging. A sense that the hospitality and the good will of those providing it are genuine makes every cup taste sweet and the memory of the experience even sweeter.  Perhaps no professional in recent years better embodies these values than today's guest, Monique (Mo) Maravilla! Mo is a Filipino entrepreneur, coffee roaster, educator, traveler, and champion of joyful hospitality. Her journey began on the guest side of the bar, appreciating the way a single cup could hold identity, story, and connection all at once. Her passion for community and representation led her to open Kindness and Mischief Coffee Roasters in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in 2016. Noticing a severe lack of women — and particularly women of color — behind the bar, at the roaster, and at the helm of their own shops, she started learning to roast in 2017 and became the first Filipino woman roaster in Los Angeles. Coffee became her chosen medium to create meaningful connections, experiences, and safe, inclusive spaces for others, especially those in marginalized groups. After 12 years running K+M, Mo created Studio Tigre to continue to challenge what the coffee world looks and feels like, and who gets to lead it. Inspired by her Filipino heritage and the symbolism of the tiger, she built a brand that is boldly designed, radically anti-gatekeeping, and rooted in community. Her mission: help people feel confident, capable, and celebrated in the spaces where craft and culture meet — because when you're not offered a seat at the table, you build your own.  We discuss: Going from audiovisual engineering to coffee entrepreneurship The importance of community and authentic relationships in business Designing coffee spaces for joy, warmth, and connection Lessons learned from running Kindness and Mischief after 12 years The role of boundaries and self-awareness in in being an owner Studio Tigre as a creative extension and omakase coffee experience The journey of learning roasting and sharing knowledge Balancing passion, business growth, and personal well-being   REGISTER NOW FOR THE SUMMER WEBINAR SERIES!  Build a Stronger Coffee Shop: One Step at a Time Great coffee shops don't happen by accident.
