Three college friends playing with a Ouija board in 1990 claim a spirit told them the story of a murderous entity called The Bye Bye Man — but the real origin of the legend is far more fascinating than the fiction.*No AI Voices Are Used In The Narration Of This Podcast*IN THIS EPISODE: Once you learn his name, he preys on you. All the instructions it's very easy in the show notes. Okay.. our top story this week: XX A biotech company developing stem-cell treatments for type 1 diabetes has announced a new research partnership aimed at improving the survival of transplanted insulin-producing cells. NewcelX, a clinical-stage company based in Switzerland, said it will work with Eledon Pharmaceuticals to study a combination approach. The goal is to help transplanted cells survive longer in the body by reducing the immune response that often leads to transplant rejection. If successful, the strategy could support longer-lasting islet cell replacement and move the therapy closer to becoming a functional treatment for people with type 1 diabetes. However, the companies have not yet released any safety or effectiveness data on the combination treatment, and financial details of the partnership were not disclosed. The research agreement is focused on exploring whether combining stem-cell-derived islets with targeted immune therapy can lead to longer-lasting cell transplants and improved outcomes for people with type 1 diabetes. https://www.stocktitan.net/news/ELDN/newcel-x-announces-strategic-collaboration-with-eledon-d10l1vqdofls.html XX Debate this week in the UK on whether testing for type 1 diabetes should become mandatory when children present with symptoms. The Westminster Hall debate, scheduled for 9 March, will consider calls for routine testing of babies, toddlers and young children who show signs associated with the condition. It follows a petition backing the move, dubbed 'Lyla's Law', which passed 121,000 signatures in December 2025. The campaign was launched by John Story after his two-year-old daughter, Lyla, died from diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) on 3 May 2025, 16 hours after being diagnosed with tonsillitis. https://www.nursinginpractice.com/clinical/diabetes-and-endocrinology/diabetes-community-urged-to-call-on-mps-to-attend-lylas-law-debate/ XX     A new study suggests that people with gestational diabetes who adjust their own insulin doses may reach healthy blood sugar levels faster than those whose doses are adjusted by clinicians. Half of the participants were assigned to adjust their own insulin doses using a simple rule: increase the dose by two units if fasting blood glucose was above 95 mg/dL, decrease it by two units if it dropped below 70 mg/dL, and keep the same dose if levels fell in between. The other half had their insulin adjusted by clinicians through weekly reviews. By the end of pregnancy, both groups had similar average fasting glucose levels before delivery: about 89 mg/dL in the patient-led group and 90 mg/dL in the clinician-led group. However, those adjusting their own insulin reached their blood sugar targets more quickly, averaging 1.8 weeks compared with 2.5 weeks for those managed by clinicians. The study also found lower risks of certain complications among the patient-led group. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/self-insulin-dosing-leads-control-gestational-diabetes-2026a1000729 XX   A blockbuster anti-obesity and diabetes drug could cost as little as $3 per month to manufacture once it goes off patent later this month, researchers said Friday, providing a major opportunity to boost health in low and middle-income countries.   Semaglutide, the active molecule in Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Wegovy will lose patent protection in countries such as Brazil, China, and India later this month, and researchers identified 150 countries where it was never patented. These researchers estimated it will cost as little as $3 to produce a month's supply of semaglutide, which in its branded form sells for around $200 a month in the United States. Another of the study's authors, Professor Francois Venter at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, said drugs to treat HIV, TB, malaria, and hepatitis are now available at prices close to production costs but still sufficient for generic manufacturers to operate. https://www.sciencealert.com/weight-loss-drugs-could-cost-just-3-a-month-to-make-as-patents-end XX Here in the US the FDA is stepping up its efforts to combat widespread GLP-1 drug compounding. In its latest offensive, the agency has unleashed a fresh set of 30 warning letters targeting telehealth companies it says make "false or misleading" claims about compounded versions of popular obesity drugs. The FDA says Compounded drugs can be important for overcoming shortages or meeting unique patient needs—but compounders should not try to compound drugs in a way that circumvents FDA's approval process." https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/fda-ramps-crackdown-glp-1-drug-compounders-fresh-batch-30-warning-letters XX   Check your infusion sets for an issue: Unomedical, a subsidiary of Convatec and a supplier of insulin infusion sets to diabetes tech firms, has received a warning letter from the FDA. Inspectors raised concerns with leaking infusion sets, following a regulatory assessment of Unomedical's facility in Reynosa, Mexico, last summer. Unomedical supplies infusion sets to insulin pump makers including Medtronic, Tandem Diabetes Care and Beta Bionics. In a Feb. 3 statement, Convatec said the letter focuses on reporting procedures and quality protocols and does not place restrictions on producing, marketing or distributing any of Unomedical's products.  Unomedical told the FDA in its responses that it plans to conduct a retrospective review of complaints involving serious injury or death by January and conduct additional training on complaint handling by May.   https://www.medtechdive.com/news/fda-warns-insulin-infusion-set-maker-unomedical-over-leaks-mishandled-comp/813503/ XX Nearly four in ten people with type 2 diabetes do not take their medications as prescribed, according to a new research review published in Diabetologia in November 2025.   Researchers examined existing studies on medication adherence, including how often patients miss doses, why it happens, and what strategies may help. They estimated that about 38% of patients with type 2 diabetes are not fully adherent to their medications.   Adherence rates vary depending on the type of medication. About 63% to 68% of patients take oral glucose-lowering drugs as directed, while adherence drops to 43% to 54% for injectable GLP-1 medications and 41% to 64% for insulin.   Poor adherence can lead to serious consequences. One retrospective study cited in the review found that patients who consistently took their glucose-lowering medications had a 31% lower risk of hospitalization or emergency department visits.   The review also highlighted ways to improve adherence. Simplifying medication routines can help, such as using fixed-dose combination pills, which combine multiple drugs into a single tablet. Studies show these combinations are linked to better adherence and improved blood sugar control.   Pharmacists can also play an important role by providing education, reviewing medications, setting up reminders, and helping patients organize their treatment plans. The researchers noted that support should be tailored to each patient. Older adults may benefit from simpler systems and caregiver support, while younger patients may respond better to digital tools like app-based reminders.   The authors also found that measuring adherence is challenging and recommend using multiple methods, such as pharmacy records, patient interviews, and objective tests when possible.   Overall, the review concludes that personalized, multi-step approaches lasting at least three months are most effective in helping people with type 2 diabetes stay on track with their medications. https://www.pharmacytimes.com/view/type-2-diabetes-medication-adherence-rates-remain-low-and-pharmacists-can-help XX New clinical trial shows metformin does not directly reverse insulin resistance in people with type 1 diabetes. Instead, it lowers the total amount of insulin required to keep blood glucose levels within the recommended range. The findings, published in Nature Communications, challenge long-held assumptions about how metformin works in type 1 diabetes. The results may help physicians refine treatment strategies and reduce the daily demands placed on people who rely solely on insulin therapy. "Insulin resistance is a growing problem in type 1 diabetes. Not only does it make regulating blood sugar levels difficult, but it is an underappreciated risk factor for heart disease, which is one of the biggest causes of health complications and deaths in those with type 1 diabetes," says Dr. Jennifer Snaith, endocrinologist and co-lead of the study.   https://scitechdaily.com/groundbreaking-trial-reveals-unexpected-benefit-of-metformin-in-type-1-diabetes/   Tech news ahead, including updates from Sensonics, Dexcom & Tandem.. right after this…. Back ot the wnews.. XX Sensonics shares that it's secured FDA investigational device exemption (IDE) for its self-powered, battery-enabled Gemini sensor. It enrolled the first patients in the IDE trial and expects to complete that in the second half of 2026. Gemini builds on the implanted CGM to put the transmitter under the skin as well as the sensor. https://www.drugdeliverybusiness.com/senseonics-q4-2025-ide-gemini-cgm/ XX Medtronic Diabetes is now officially MiniMid, a stand alone public company. Medtronic  acquired MiniMed 25 years ago announed last May that it would spin its diabetes business off. In their statement the company points out that MiniMed is the only diabetes tech company to sell both insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors.   https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/medtronics-diabetes-unit-minimed-valued-at-53-billion-as-shares-fall-in-nasdaq-debut-4547518 XX Kevin Sayer heads back to Dexcom.. Dexcom (Nasdaq:DXCM) announced today in an SEC filing that former CEO Kevin Sayer has returned from his leave of absence. Sayer's return to the board comes just days after Dexcom announced a new board member. The system then received expanded clearance for pediatric indications in April 2024, then later won CE mark in May 2025.   Mobi features a 200-unit insulin cartridge and an on-pump button to provide an alternative to phone control for insulin boluses. Kate and Cliff White of Strong Machine Adventure Racing have been a fixture in the adventure racing community for over a decade — first as racers stumbling toward the back of the pack at a winter race in Wisconsin, and eventually as two respected race directors on the East Coast. The path between those two points is anything but straight. In this episode, we trace that journey: how a family machinery business became a team name, how a land trust in Maine became their first race venue, and how the simple act of showing up in a state with almost no races led them to build the ones they wanted to exist. Along the way, they've developed the Strong Machine Development Squad — a structured mentorship program designed to solve what Cliff identifies as the sport's most stubborn barrier to entry: people who want to race but can't find anyone to race with.We also talk about the big races. Cliff on going unofficial in South Africa after a teammate's injury on day one, and still grinding through nine more days. Kate on a moment in Spain when she asked her teammates to leave her at a river crossing — and what it meant to come out the other side of that. And we talk honestly about the sport's ceiling. Adventure racing will never be mainstream. Kate and Cliff have made their peace with that. What they haven't made peace with is the wide audience of endurance athletes who have yet to dip their toes into the AR water. Bringing them into the sport is the work they're still doing.Shownotes:https://www.mainesummerar.com/Sponsor Links:Adventure Addicts Racing's Brake The Habit AR - https://www.adventureaddictsracing.com/copy-of-brake-the-habit-1Shenandoah Epic Adventure Race - https://www.adventureenablers.com/

This week, Ivy Slater, host of Her Success Story, chats with her guest, Denise Schonwald. The two talk about Denise's journey from a three-decade career as a critical care nurse to becoming a nationally licensed mental health therapist, her innovative approach to connecting with clients by giving away her book, and her mission to bring greater education and honesty to the mental health conversation.  In this episode, we discuss: How Denise went from decades in critical care nursing, night shifts, physical strain, and high-stakes decision-making, to realizing it was time to care for people differently and transition into mental health. What helped her figure out her next chapter was asking, "What am I actually good at?" and translating skills like quick thinking, working with families, and navigating crisis into a thriving private practice. When she realized that building a practice meant becoming a business owner and marketer, not just a clinician, and how writing and giving away her first book (instead of selling it) unexpectedly became her best referral engine, reaching readers as far as South Africa, Australia, and Canada. Why her long-term vision is a national platform for telling the truth about mental health, raising real awareness, and helping a society that she sees getting "sicker and sicker," especially among younger children. How technology can feel like "junk food for the mind," fueling anxiety, depression, and procrastination, and her simple, doable starting point: one hour tech-free in the morning and keeping the cell phone out of the bedroom at night. Denise Schonwald, a registered nurse with over three decades of experience, has seamlessly transitioned from critical care nursing to a distinguished career in mental health counseling. Witnessing families cope with the emotional toll of illness during her time in the healthcare field fueled her passion for holistic healing. Based in Sarasota, Florida, Denise extends her compassionate care nationwide through virtual sessions. As a spiritually grounded mental health counselor and medical intuitive, she leads a comprehensive approach, seamlessly merging mental and physical well-being. A public speaker, spiritual teacher, and certified family mediator, Denise advocates for a harmonious integration of mind and body. Her commitment to nurturing both the body and the mind shines through in her client-centered practice, offering support to individuals, couples, families, and even our youngest thinkers - starting at age 4. Books include: Insightful Self-Therapy: Increasing Your Awareness about Mental Health and How to Live a Happier Life;  When Mom and Dad Divorced: Sam's Story, Elephants Don't Marry Giraffes, and her first children's book, Getting Back to Happy. fWotD Episode 3230: Zungeni Mountain skirmish Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 9 March 2026, is Zungeni Mountain skirmish. The Zungeni Mountain skirmish took place on 5 June 1879 between British and Zulu forces during the second invasion of Zululand, in what is now South Africa, during the later stages of the Anglo-Zulu War. British irregular horse commanded by Colonel Redvers Buller discovered a force of 300 Zulus at the settlement of eZulaneni near Zungeni Mountain. The horsemen charged towards and scattered the Zulus before burning the settlement. Buller's men withdrew after coming under fire from Zulus who threatened to surround them.Buller's men were joined by more irregulars and a force of British regular cavalry, the latter under the command of Major-General Frederick Marshall. Two squadrons of the 17th (The Duke of Cambridge's Own) Lancers, led by Colonel Drury Drury-Lowe, approached the Zulu position. They could not close with the Zulus, who were in an area of long grass and bushes, and Zulu fire killed the 17th Lancers' adjutant, Lieutenant Frederick John Cokayne Frith. Drury-Lowe ordered some of his men to dismount and return fire. When the Zulus threatened to outflank the British, Marshall ordered a withdrawal. Aside from Frith, British casualties included two irregulars wounded; two months after the battle, the remains of 25 Zulus were discovered on the battlefield. Bongani Bingwa speaks to TK Pooe, Associate Professor of Statecraft and Policy at the African School of Governance and Visiting Lecturer at the Wits School of Governance, about the growing concern that the global rules-based order may be unravelling. As tensions and war intensify in the Middle East, questions are being asked about whether international norms and institutions still have the power to restrain stronger nations. If powerful countries can attack or invade others with little consequence, what does that mean for smaller and middle-power states like South Africa? Pooe examines whether global power is increasingly determined by strength rather than rules, and what it means when the international community can condemn actions but struggles to enforce accountability. In a shifting geopolitical landscape, he also explores how South Africa should interpret and defend its national interests, and what strategic choices the country may face if the traditional global order continues to weaken. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. Ralph welcomes sociologist and historian Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi to discuss the United States' war of aggression on Iran.Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi is an Iranian-born American historian and sociologist. He is a Research Fellow at the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the CUNY Graduate Center. He was the Chair of the Department of Near Eastern Studies and Director of the Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies at Princeton University. He is the author of four books on different aspects and historical context of the Iranian revolution of 1979 and its aftermath. The only countries that I see that are in constant violation of international law is the United States and Israel. And frankly, I am speechless, although I'm speaking, but I am speechless—in what universe can this war be justified as self-defense? You listened to Secretary Rubio's speech in Munich where he laments 400 years of colonial rule being lost to this international law and laws of fighting wars because they want to go back to the way things were in the 18th and 19th century. This is a naked expansionist, extortionist administration here, and that's the only reason they have launched this war, and there is absolutely no justification for it.Behrooz Ghamari-TabriziFor years and years, the Israelis have been assassinating Iranian scientists. They were sabotaging Iranian industries. And actually, the Iranian government showed tremendous restraint in responding to these Israeli provocations because they didn't want to create the situation in which we find ourselves today. But then at the end of the day, calling Iran the aggressor here I think is a total ignorance of history and the context in which this war has started.Behrooz Ghamari-TabriziAll these things are not to suggest that the Iranian government in any form or shape is a democratic and just state. But the question here is about the sovereignty of the Iranian state. And the only inheritance of the revolution that has been kept throughout these forty-odd years was the question of sovereignty. Because that was one of the demands of the revolution. The question of social justice was thrown out of the window after the revolution. The question of civil liberties was thrown out of the window after the revolution. The only thing that is left is Iranian sovereignty. And according to every single intelligence study, what Iranians do outside their borders is a defensive posture. Iran does not have an expansionist agenda.Behrooz Ghamari-TabriziNews 3/6/26* Last week, Bill and Hillary Clinton testified before the House Oversight Committee on their respective relationships with financier and sexual predator, Jeffrey Epstein. Hillary Clinton, in a deposition described as contentious, maintained that she had virtually zero connections with Epstein, stating at one point “I am so tired of answering that question,” per PBS. Former President Bill Clinton meanwhile, tried to downplay his relationship with Epstein, describing it as “cordial,” and claiming that he had come to an arrangement with Epstein where the financier provided his private jet for humanitarian trips in exchange for Clinton discussing politics and economics with him. The committee pressed Clinton on this point, noting that Epstein visited the White House numerous times during Clinton's presidency and that there are photos of the two men shaking hands. Clinton told lawmakers he “did not recall those interactions.” These answers leave much to be desired.* Meanwhile, another Epstein associate occupies the Oval Office today – Donald Trump – and on February 26th the Wall Street Journal reported that the Department of Justice, under the stewardship of Attorney General Pam Bondi, has been withholding interviews with a woman who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault back in the 1980s. As the Journal writes, the suppression of this interview “raises new questions about the Justice Department's handling of the Epstein files release and the pages that have been kept private.” The Journal adds that “Trump officials initially opposed the release of the files and then fumbled their response, including inconsistent redactions that exposed dozens of Epstein victims and initially kept some prominent men's names hidden.” However, on March 5th, POLITICO reported that the FBI has now published a trio of FBI interviews with the woman who accused the president of sexually assaulting her in collusion with Jeffrey Epstein. Trump and his allies categorically deny any wrongdoing on the part of the president, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt calling the allegations “completely baseless…backed by zero credible evidence, from a sadly disturbed woman who has an extensive criminal history.” This story also highlights what is sure to be the next flashpoint in this saga: on Wednesday, a House committee voted to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify about her handling of the Epstein files.* Turning to media news, last week we covered how Paramount-Skydance, led by the Ellison family and backed by the Trump administration, outmaneuvered Netflix to close a deal acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery – including CNN. Throughout this process, many have raised the alarm that if the Ellisons were to get their hands on CNN, they would turn it over to their ideological attack dog, Bari Weiss, as they did with CBS News. Variety is now echoing those concerns, reporting that “It's expected that Weiss will have a big role in steering CNN.” Just what exactly this role will be remains to be seen, but given her tenure as editor-in-chief of CBS News, there is much cause for concern.* In related news, Variety reports Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has filed to sell 4,004,149 shares – over $114 million worth of stock – in the company following the announcement of the sale to Paramount, including Paramount's eye-popping offer of $31 per share. Zaslav retains additional stock and options which he could cash out as the deal moves forward. Curiously, even as the Trump administration backed the Paramount buyout over the Netflix deal, the president himself continues to bank on the fiscal stability of the streaming giant, with the Hollywood Reporter documenting that Trump bought between $600,000 and $1.25 million worth of Netflix debt in January, adding to the $500,000 to $1 million in Netflix bonds that he purchased in December. This story notes that while the Netflix-Warner deal fell through, Netflix walked away with a $2.8 billion “break-up fee,” and an investment grade credit rating, unlike both WBD and Paramount.* Looking at domestic politics, this week primaries were held in Texas and North Carolina which yielded the nomination of James Talarico in Texas, beating out Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett for the Democratic nod, and the razor thin victory of incumbent Valerie Foushee over her progressive challenger Nida Allam in the Durham-Chapel Hill region. But many more primary battles lay ahead, perhaps the most interesting of which is unfolding in Maine, where the Bernie Sanders-backed veteran-turned-oysterman Graham Platner is duking it out with Chuck Schumer's preferred candidate, outgoing Governor Janet Mills. Platner, despite damaging stories, has continued to draw massive crowds and enjoys a huge polling advantage. Last week, Platner's allies, led by United Autoworkers President Shawn Fain, staged a sort of intervention with Schumer, with Fain lambasting the “shortcomings” in Democratic leaders' approach to the 2026 midterms, “particularly their failure to adequately listen to working-class voters.” Michael Monahan, a high-level official in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, also sent a letter to the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee strongly urging the DSCC to “refrain from intervening further in [the Maine] primary.” A mid-February independent poll found Platner with a 38-point lead over Mills among likely Democratic primary voters, yet the party continues to back Mills to the hilt. This from NBC.* Our remaining stories this week concern foreign affairs. First, in South Africa, it seems the forces of the Left are looking to pool their support by entering into a political alliance. According to TimesLIVE, a prominent South African online newspaper, the country's largest standalone Left party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has convened with the South African Communist Party (SACP) to discuss such an electoral pact. The SACP has long participated in a tripartite alliance with the African National Congress party (ANC), which has ruled South Africa since the end of Apartheid, but recently announced they would contest elections independently. The EFF and SACP emphasized that their priorities align on the “deep crises confronting South Africa: de-industrialisation, austerity-driven fiscal consolidation, collapsing energy security, mass unemployment, and extreme poverty.”* In another major political realignment, the Green Party of England and Wales is surging as the Labour Party, under the centrist leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, continues to lose ground to the Nigel Farage-led far right party, Reform UK. The rise of the Green Party has been bubbling for some time, as progressive voters feel betrayed by Labour and the momentum behind Jeremy Corbyn's “Your Party” has fizzled, but the first major test occurred recently in the Labour stronghold riding of Groton and Denton in Greater Manchester. According to the BBC, this marks the first ever win for the Greens in a by-election, with 34-year-old plumber Hannah Spencer becoming the party's first ever MP in northern England. Reform ran second, with Labour dropping by 25% into third place. Moreover, Zeteo reports the Greens have leapfrogged ahead of Labour in national polling, second only to Reform and has become the single most popular party among voters under 50. For the past five months, the Greens have been led by self-described “eco-populist” Zack Polanski, and have espoused policies including giving councils the power to control rents, extending free school meals to all children, and imposing a new ‘wealth tax' on assets above £10m.* In Congress, Representative Ro Khanna has introduced the West Bank Human Rights Resolution to Condemn Israeli Settlement Expansion. This resolution is described as utilizing far more specific language to condemn “Israeli settler violence and referencing potential sanctions tools while also calling for a review of US policies that may indirectly subsidise settlement activity,” per the Middle East Eye. In part, this resolution is a response to the Israeli government's February 8th approval of “sweeping changes to land registration and civil control in Areas A and B of the West Bank, which Palestinians say breach the Oslo Accords and advance de facto annexation.” This resolution was drafted in conjunction with Cameron Kasky, the survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting who has become a leading activist on rights for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. In a statement upon the introduction of this resolution, Kasky wrote “this is a necessary measure for Democrats and Republicans to unite behind the upholding of international law. Democrats and Republicans can agree that U.S. taxpayer money being used to subsidize the violation of international law is an outrage.”* Our final two stories concern the U.S. attacks on Iran. First, a bizarre sequence of conflicting claims between the U.S. and Spain have left many observers puzzled. First, on March 3rd, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez addressed the Iberian nation, saying “Very often great wars start with a chain of events spiralling out of control due to miscalculations, technical failures, and unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, we must learn from history and cannot play Russian roulette with the fate of millions.” Sánchez warned of “repeating the mistakes of the past,” and drew a comparison with the invasion of Iraq, concluding his government's position is “No to war,” per CNBC. More pointedly, the Spanish government prevented two jointly operated bases in its territory from being used in the strikes on Iran. Trump responded on the 4th by vowing to cut off all trade with Madrid, saying “Spain has been terrible…We don't want anything to do with Spain.” Then, on March 5th, Karoline Leavitt told the press that “With respect to Spain, I think they heard the president's message yesterday loud and clear, and it's my understanding, over the past several hours, they've agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military.” Yet, the Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares immediately responded that “The Spanish government's position on the war in the Middle East ... and the use of our bases has not changed at all.” This also from CNBC. Trump's threat to cut off trade with Spain would be difficult to follow through on, given that the 27 nations in the European Union negotiate trade agreements collectively,* Finally, far from assuaging concerns about the attacks on Iran leading to blowback, the Hill reports that, when asked during a phone call with Time magazine about whether Americans should be worried about a potential strike on the homeland, Trump replied, “I guess.” Trump went on to say “We think about it all the time. We plan for it. But yeah…we expect some things…some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die.” Stunningly, despite Trump openly declaring that we are at war with Iran sans congressional authorization and even casually admitting Americans could be killed on home soil, the feckless Congress has voted down War Powers resolutions in the House and Senate. In the upper house, the bill introduced by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, failed 47-53, with Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky crossing party lines to support it while Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania crossed party lines to vote nay, per the AP. A similar measure in the House, introduced by Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie – the duo behind the Epstein Files Transparency Act and other war powers resolutions including on Venezuela – failed by a vote of 212-219. In addition to Massie, Republican Rep. Warren Davison of Ohio voted in favor of the resolution, while four House Democrats voted nay, per Axios. Again the question is presented to us, if this won't shock Congress to action, what will? This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Today, we are joined by Ben Curtis, Global Brand Vice President for Rexona—the brand known as Degree in the US, Sure in the UK, and Shield in South Africa. Ben oversees the global strategy for a brand that Unilever identifies as the "cultural engine" of its Personal Care business group, making it the primary vehicle for activating their massive FIFA and UEFA partnerships. As the marketing world prepares for the unprecedented scale of the FIFA World Cup in North America, we are diving deep into the strategic blueprint required to activate at this level. This isn't just a conversation about logos on LED boards; it is a masterclass in how a global giant moves a brand from a three-second-a-day consumer habit into a "culturally sticky" space where it can build a genuine emotional connection with an audience of billions. In this episode, we explore:The Strategy of Confidence: How Rexona is leveraging the concepts of science, performance, and control to align with elite sport and solve the "problem" of sweat and odor on the world's biggest stage.Managing Global Complexity: The challenge of maintaining distinctive brand assets (DBAs) across fragmented brand names like Rexona and Degree, and why the "tick" and the "it won't let you down" promise are the keys to global consistency.Activation at Scale: An inside look at the "House of Fresh" content studio, limited edition player-ambassador packs featuring stars like Vinny Jr., and the "world-first" in-game authentications being planned with FIFA.The Gender Balance: Why Unilever is giving equal billing to the Men's and Women's World Cups, treating the 2027 tournament in Brazil as a major commercial priority rather than a mere "purpose play".For any executive navigating the geopolitics, logistical hurdles, and cultural nuances of a 48-team World Cup in the US, Ben provides a rare look at the high-stakes decision-making happening inside one of the world's most sophisticated marketing organizations.Unofficial Partner is the leading podcast for the business of sport. “Welcome your enemy, welcome the darkness. Let everybody come and sit with you at the table. Welcome with open arms, with love, with light. …That is when everything dissolves, and you are free.” – Tamsyn Strydom Before discovering the Hoffman Process, Tamsyn Strydom shares that her life had “quietly begun to shut down.” She felt overwhelmed, facing unexplained health challenges and struggling to get out of bed after relocating to a new country. Coming to the Process with a Hoffman scholarship and a quiet, desperate urgency to heal, Tamsyn felt hope. She knew that doing the Process would mark a profound turning point in her life. At the Process, Tamsyn gave it her all. She met all parts of herself, the light and the dark. She faced everything with a willingness to change. Tamsyn left feeling incredible. Yet it only took a week back home for her to fall back into the darker patterns that had brought her to Hoffman in the first place. Once home, Tamsyn had shared with others how good she felt. Now, she felt shame that the patterns had returned. Rather than saying anything to anyone, she began to isolate. This is when she found a profound willingness within. With nowhere to run to, nowhere else to go, she had to surrender again as she’d done at the Process. Now, she had to do it on her own. It was time to sit with the darkness, time to come to know and love herself deeply. Listen in to hear how Tamsyn made her way through this challenge and into her new life. She credits the Hoffman Process as a pivotal catalyst that helped her reclaim her capacity, deepen her self-trust, and step fully into this next chapter of her life. Content Warning: This episode references disordered eating. Listen on Apple Podcasts More about Tamsyn Strydom: Tamsyn is the founder of Radiant Growth and Khanyisa Institute, and the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Lo Sono Integrative Health. All three are dedicated to functional medicine, well-being, longevity science, and leadership evolution. Through her work in clinical and integrative health environments, she has supported thousands of patients. She brings a rare blend of medical insight and performance-driven leadership. Drawing on her background in integrative health and experience within clinical environments, her work bridges the realities of business demands, health, and human performance. She partners with physicians and clinical teams, serving as the bridge between patients and providers to integrate the often-missing “healing from within” dimension alongside medical care. Tamsyn – Cape Town, South Africa A keynote speaker and leadership performance expert, Tamsyn Strydom helps high-performing founders and leaders elevate business results, performance, and health. Most leaders try to think their way through burnout, culture issues, and performance gaps. But real change starts on the inside. Tamsyn works with those who appear successful on the outside but feel disconnected, reactive, or stretched thin behind the scenes. She equips them to rebuild self-trust, emotional resilience, and clarity so they can lead more effectively and create real impact without burning out. Personally trained and certified within Dr. Joe Dispenza's authorized practitioner network, this is one of several dimensions that inform her approach. Originally from South Africa, Tamsyn is building a life in the U.S. that feels like a story worth telling. A story of new countries, getting intentionally lost in new cities, and deep talks at 1 AM about purpose, passion, and why we're really here. Learn more at TamsynStrydom.com. Follow Tamsyn on Facebook and Instagram. As mentioned in this episode: Willingness:  Willingness is a concept and a corresponding skill that supports healing. When we are willing, we choose to be and engage with what we are experiencing. We don’t have to like it. We don’t have to believe that what is here is okay or even good. It’s the choice we make to be right here, right now, with everything just as it is, even if it means feeling pain or discomfort. Our instinct might be to pull away, yet we can develop the skill of willingness. Self-compassion: “I define self-compassion as the ability (and practice) of holding myself amidst failure, disappointment, and suffering of any kind, and in the face of these life contractions, to still be able to offer myself love and kindness. …It is the practice of loving ourselves out of shame and into wholeness – the place where we can connect to and embody our own capacity for radical self-love.” Jasin Deegan (Read the full quote here.)

Around the World in 80 Days: The Travel Mindset That Makes Retirement Bigger (SB1811)

What if retirement isn't about doing less, but about becoming more? George Jerjian spent his career as a retirement mindset coach, helping others navigate life after work. Then he decided to practice what he preached. He planned an 80-day round-the-world journey, intentionally choosing unfamiliar countries where he'd be forced out of his comfort zone and into transformation. This greatest hits crossover from Stacking Adventures brings George's story to the basement, not because it's about exotic travel (though the destinations are incredible), but because it illustrates something crucial about the retirement mindset. The question isn't whether you can afford to travel. The question is whether you're willing to reinvent yourself when the structure of work disappears. George shares the planning behind his epic journey, including why he used a travel agent (yes, really), how he chose destinations that would challenge him rather than just relax him, and what each stop taught him about identity, purpose, and staying relevant after a career ends. From South Africa's Robben Island and a five day safari that taught him about patience, to Australia's Great Barrier Reef and a Melbourne Immigration Museum exhibit that forced him to rethink identity, to New Zealand's Milford Sound and a Maori dance lesson about seeking approval, to Japan's samurai service culture and Hiroshima's lesson in resilience, to Canada's awe inducing Rockies and French-flavored Quebec. Every stop was chosen deliberately to teach him something, not just show him something. The conversation explores his DARE method for retirement planning, why so many retirees struggle with identity once their business cards disappear, and how intentional travel creates the mindset shift that makes retirement feel expansive rather than diminishing. Along the way, Joe and Crystal plug the "Where in the World is Crystal Hammond?" guessing game (she's not in the continental U.S. or Aruba), announce Seattle and Boston community meetups, and mention the Vault tool for credit monitoring. Plus, you'll hear about George's book, Odyssey of an Elder: Around the World in 80 Days. What You'll Learn: • Why retirement success depends on mindset transformation, not just financial preparation • George's DARE method for retirement planning and identity • How to plan transformational travel versus just vacation travel • Why choosing unfamiliar destinations matters more than comfortable ones • What each stop on George's journey taught him about life after work • How travel forces identity shifts that make retirement feel expansive • Why so many retirees struggle once their professional identity disappears • Practical strategies for reinventing yourself when work ends • How to use travel as a tool for personal growth, not just leisure This Episode Is For You If: • You're approaching retirement and worried about losing your identity • You've saved enough money but haven't thought about who you'll become • You're recently retired and struggling with the transition • You want retirement to feel like expansion, not contraction • You believe travel can transform you, not just entertain you Question for You: If you could take an 80-day trip designed to transform you (not just relax you), where would you go and why? It's Wednesday, March 4th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Timothy Reed Pray for the Middle East Please pray for Christians in the Middle East as tensions rise in the region. Christian communities, like those in Iran, are especially vulnerable during times of escalating violence. Regina Lynch with Aid to the Church in Need warned, “The longing for freedom and dignity among peoples in the region is legitimate. But the price of renewed war could be extremely high. Civilians always suffer most, and Christians are often among the most defenseless.”  U.S.-Iranian conflict might last four weeks U.S. President Donald Trump recently said the conflict with Iran may continue over the next four weeks. The United States and Israel carried out sweeping airstrikes against the country over the weekend. The American death toll in the conflict reached six troops as of Monday.  The U.S. State Department is urging Americans to leave over a dozen countries in the Middle East. Those include Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel.   Supreme Court rules against radical transgender policy The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against California's pro-transgender school policy on Monday. The policy allowed public school officials to keep the gender confusion of students from their parents. Worse than that, school officials even helped students “transition” without their parents knowledge.  Paul Jonna, Special Counsel at Thomas More Society, commented, “The Court's landmark . . . vindication of religious liberty . . . [sets] an historic precedent that will dismantle secret gender transition policies across the country.” The State of the Unborn: GOP should not leave fight to states The pro-life movement is continuing strong, but not without its challenges. That's according to Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser in her “State of the Unborn” address.  Listen to her thoughts on why the fight for life must continue. DANNENFELSER: “Now consider the great battles the pro-life movement has won after over a half a century of struggle:  electing a pro-life president, confirming the Supreme Court justices who would reverse Roe v Wade with the Dobbs decision, and restore the right to uphold the 14th Amendment's equal protection promise in the law.  "The handcuffs are off. We are free to protect the human rights of people. We live in a fresh moment filled with hope for our children, and yet, there are now more abortions than before Dobbs -- at least 1.1 million a year.  "More than 60% of those deaths are caused by abortion drugs, and that's more than fentanyl, cocaine and heroin related deaths combined. Abortion is the number one cause of death in the United States of America.” Dannenfelser went on to challenge the Republican Party. She said, “The current GOP strategy of leaving this issue to the states clearly does not work. Twenty pro-life states can't even enforce their laws because of mail-order abortion drugs.” Proverbs 31:9 says, “Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.” Trump's Transportation Dept: No illegals allowed commercial licenses Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is imposing new rules in order for truckers to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. This comes as the Trump administration continues to fight illegal immigration, including within the trucking industry, where illegal drivers have killed a number of Americans. Duffy laid out his expectations for U.S. commercial drivers. DUFFY: “This is not politics that we're playing here. We can have a debate about whether Joe Biden had an open border or Donald Trump shut down and secured the border. That's a different debate. “The debate really is, ‘Do you want well-trained, well-qualified drivers behind the wheel of a big rig driving on American roads?' It's very simple. I think the answer is: Every single American, no matter what your political stripes are, doesn't are, that's exactly what you want. “That's what you would expect from the federal government and the state government. To a greater extent, I think we need our states to say, ‘Listen, we can be good partners.'” Truckers will now be required to take their Commercial Driver's License test in English. Plus, many states have worked hard with the federal government to take reckless truck drivers off the roads. YouVersion Bible app sees high engagement in Kenya, Nigeria, & South Africa And finally, the Bible app YouVersion launched its latest regional hub in Kenya last week.  The Bible app is seeing strong growth across countries in Africa. Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa rank among the top countries for daily Bible engagement, not just in Africa but also the world.  YouVersion CEO and founder Bobby Gruenewald told Christian Daily International, “Some people have predicted that Africa would become the center of global Christianity. From what we're seeing, I think it already is.” Isaiah 11:9 says, “The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, March 4th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  Plus, you can get the Generations app through Google Play or The App Store. When a family sailing journey ends in capture by child soldiers during Mozambique's civil war, a man must protect his children while confronting the unsettling truth that his captors are both perpetrators of violence and children shaped by it. Today's episode featured Dave Muller. Dave has written about his experiences in a book entitled, “Not Child's Play”, available where books are sold or at https://notchildsplay.co.uk/ You can email Dave at dave.muller@notchildsplay.co.za Dave is on Instagram @davenotchildsplay, on Facebook @Dave Muller and on YouTube @DaveMuller-NotChildsPlayIn the 1960s and 1970s, both South Africa and Mozambique were part of the larger decolonization of Africa, with South Africa gaining full independence from Britain in 1961 and Mozambique gaining independence from Portugal in 1975. However, in the decolonization process, both were thrown into proxy battles, between old structures clinging to power and the larger global cold war between communist and capitalist superpowers. South Africa, even after independence, was still ruled by a white minority government, under the National Party. The National Party was populated mostly by the white ethnic group known as Afrikaners who spoke a language called Afrikaans. The National Party instituted apartheid, a brutally oppressive system of institutionalized racial segregation and white supremacy enforced in South Africa from 1948 to the early 1990s. South Africa shares a northeastern border with Mozambique. When Mozambique gained independence in 1975, they were ruled by the Communist party known as FRELIMO. FRELIMO became a major force opposing apartheid in neighboring South Africa. The South African apartheid government, in response to FRELIMO's opposition, actively destabilized Mozambique from the inside by propping up a rebel group known as RENAMO. This led to a violent 15-year civil war in Mozambique, between the ruling, communist-backed FRELIMO party and the South African-backed RENAMO rebel group. In the first part of today's episode, you'll hear our storyteller speak about growing up in South Africa during apartheid as a white man, but he was not an Afrikaner, and grew up in a family that was opposed to apartheid. The second part of the story takes place in Mozambique, where he and his family are held by the RENAMO rebel group and caught in the chaos and fighting between FRELIMO and RENAMO, the two warring factions in the civil war there. Of course there is much more to say about all of this, and Dave will speak to some of these issues as he experienced them. I encourage you all to read more about the brutal and complex history of decolonization and apartheid in Africa. And one final note, you'll hear Dave talking about “Arwen” several times. In case it isn't clear right away, he is referring to his boat that he built.
