It was time to bring back Charlie Weingroff for Episode 169 to talk about some serious stuff.  Charlie and Don had a private conversation a few weeks ago on the subject of scientific research in health, wellness and performance, and where it fits in the selection of protocols, exercises and other key ingredients for optimal performance and health.  While some practitioners are quick to support their own positions with research papers, or argue against another professional's methods using peer reviewed research as a basis, we discuss the nuances of using research in an intelligent manner.  Practical experience, case studies, intuition and research can form a strong foundation of knowledge and skill that can go a long way to bolster the work of a successful practitioner or coach.  Charlie identifies the key elements that go into establishing foundational knowledge and practice.  Dr. Charlie Weingroff is one of the most sought-after professionals world-wide in physical therapy and athletic performance. He is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a Certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who has worked with countless A-List celebrities, professional athletes, as well as the general population.  Charlie has been Physical Performance Lead and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Canadian Men's National Basketball Team from 2011-2021, where he was the architect along with Sam Gibbs of the performance program that tops all foreign countries with a over 20 active players in the NBA. He often lectures overseas often, and his relationship with Beijing Yanding Trading Company has brought him through mainland China for the last 5 years. Previous roles Charlie has held have been Nike Executive Performance Council, Lead Physical Therapist for the United States Marine Corps Special Operations Command, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, and Director of Athletic Development for the Roddick-Grunberg Tennis Academy. The ALL ME® Podcast Sudden Cardiac Arrest – Ray Castle, PhD, LAT, ATC, NREMT There are more than 356,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year with nearly 9-% of them being fatal. When looking at sudden cardiac deaths (SCD) in athletes, the incidence is 1: 33,134 male's athletes and 1: 76,646 female athletes. While there are various signs and symptoms that someone can look for to help determine their level of risk, there are also lifestyle habits that may be increasing your risk. In this podcast, we speak with Dr. Ray Castle, owner of Action Medicine Consultants, who has spent the last 35 years as a Licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer about the significance of the emergency response protocol. Dr. Castle and I discuss signs and symptoms of SCD, potential causes, the types of tests that can help identify if someone is at risk, the role of the athletic trainer on a medical staff, and the significance of the response time and the odds of survival. Stay tuned until the end as Ray shares his story about his experience at the Boston Marathon during the bombing and how his team responded.  Ray Castle, PhD, LAT, ATC, NREMT A native of St. Joseph, LA and a 1990 graduate of LSU, Castle has an extensive background in education, clinical practice, and professional service spanning over 32 years. Dr. Castle's clinical practice background has included experiences at the high school, college, and international (1996 Atlanta Olympic Games; USOC Sports Medicine Staff for 2003 Pan American Games; and 2004 US Women's Bobsled) levels, large-scale medical coverage and coordination, as well as extensive experience in emergency medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University, where he began as an athletic training student.  Ray received his Master of Science and his Doctor of Philosophy in Human Performance and Recreation from The University of Southern Mississippi. Additionally, Ray is a nationally registered emergency medical technician (NREMT) as well as an EMS Instructor through the Louisiana State Bureau of EMS. The other one. Let's get back in focus. What's the best recovery drink? The answer is pretty complicated. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all post workout beverage. Dana has lots of jobs and she loves her life. She is the nutritionist for the National Champion Quinnipiac Bobcat Men's Ice Hockey Team. Okay, we undersold it a little. Dana White, MS, RD, ATC. Which means she has her master's degree, and she is a registered dietitian & Certified Athletic Trainer. In this episode, Dana discusses the importance of healthy nutrition and how it's her job to make sure “the boys” eat right. Collin Graf is a believer -- and he scored the game-tying goal of the National Championship game, and you'll hear from him in this episode. Although not in the episode, Dana used to serve ice cream to this guy named Rand when she was an undergraduate student at Quinnipiac. Keith pressures Dana on what food isn't great for recovery, and she gives an answer that might surprise you. All that and a bunch of more food/nutrition "talk” with Dana White.  All episodes begin with Quinnipiac Student Matt Mungo's call on the Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network of the National Championship goal. Have you listened to our previous episode with Aubrey Marcus?    Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/exploring-within-with-aubrey-marcus-ep-2 === This week we are blessed with the brilliant and beautiful mind of Dr. Liz Letchford.   In this episode Emily and Liz discuss the link between our emotional health and our physiology, a more gentle approach toward releasing stored trauma, the importance of fully committing to our desires, and the idea that our pain actually holds the most potential for our liberation.   Trained in Western Medicine as an EMT and Certified Athletic Trainer, Liz's journey took an interesting turn when she had a spontaneous spiritual awakening leading her to a more holistic and integrated understanding of how our emotional health is directly linked to our physiology.   Over the past few years Liz has been on a wild journey of exploring various emotional release techniques, and she is currently pioneering the notion that if we move toward our pain, and we open up a dialogue with it, we begin to heal and unlock our greatest expansion.   Sit back as we dive into the topics of pleasure, pain, kink and surrender.   ===   For FREE bonus content such as mini-masterclasses from our guests and more, visit https://zivameditation.com/whythis/   ===   TIMESTAMPS:    0:00 Intro 2:18 Liz's Journey Into Somatic Work 12:13 Brain-Body Communication 19:42 Guided Exercise With Liz 32:22 The Power of Mindfulness 39:07 Pleasure Through Pain 51:46 Desire Leads to Healing 54:25 Spiritual Awakening 1:07:50 Moving Toward Pain 1:11:39 Courage to Surrender 1:12:25 Conclusion   ===   Dr. Elizabeth Letchford is a clinician, researcher, and artist who approaches health and movement through the lens of emotional wellness. With a background in sports medicine and a PhD in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, she has helped thousands of people demystify the body and its functions. Dr. Liz bridges the gap between science and mysticism, bringing together the measurable and immeasurable to guide others towards a robust understanding of their physical, mental, and emotional landscape. Her current area of focus is on the impact of relationships on the nervous system and how disharmony in relationships can lead to disharmony in the body. Through her work, Dr. Liz helps individuals navigate the landscape of their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and sexual health, leading to a deeper sense of wellness and vitality.
