Wir sprechen in dieser Folge ausführlich über Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Wie gut funktioniert der Fokus auf Action? Wie gut kommt man rein, wenn man die Reihe nicht kennt -- und wie ist es für Fans? Nintendo hat abgeliefert: Zu einer neuen Nintendo-Konsole gab es bekanntermaßen nichts zu sehen, aber Nintendo hat noch erfreulich viel im Switch-Köcher: So trägt METROID PRIME 4 nun den Untertitel BEYOND und wird 2025 erscheinen. In our very first episode, we take a look at the books that inspired us in our worldbuilding and writing. We thought it would be a piece of cake to name all the books that helped us create our own fantasy worlds, but it turned out to be quite difficult. The result: Apparently Genny is super into Greek mythology and Katrina is obsessed with Irish folklore. If you get nothing else from this episode, hopefully you're inspired to broaden your horizons and realize that when it comes to fantasy, there are no books you SHOULD read. What I learned from her was the ritual structure that is the basics of magick as practiced today. It was the start of my personal practice." Wäh, World of Warcraft, das ist doch dieses Suchtcomputerspiel dem weltweit 10 Millionen Menschen verfallen sind. Sind da nicht schon welche gestorben? Und davon gibt es jetzt einen Film? Muss ich nicht sehen... So oder ähnlich verlauteten einige der Reaktionen die wir im Social Media Umfeld und im Gespräch mit Freunden und Kollegen zu hören bekamen, als wir uns darüber unterhielten, dass der nächste Serienrepublik Podcast sich mit dem Warcraft Film beschäftigen wird. Vorab: Der Film setzt in der Tat auf die Welt von Warcraft (auch World of Warcraft) auf, es ist aber nicht erforderlich, das Computerspiel zu kennen oder gar zu spielen um Spaß an diesem Film zu haben. Wir denken: Er hat den Spagat geschafft sowohl für Fantasy-Fans ohne Spieleerfahrung als auch für die spielenden Helden von Orgrimmar und Stormwind interessant zu sein. Worum geht es überhaupt? Der Held: Travis Fimmel als Anduin Lothar In Azeroth, dem Reich der Menschen, herrscht seit vielen Jahren Frieden. Doch urplötzlich sieht sich die Zivilisation der Allianz von einer furchteinflößenden Rasse bedroht: Ork-Krieger haben ihre, dem Untergang geweihte, Heimat Draenor verlassen, um sich andernorts eine neue aufzubauen. Als sich ein Portal öffnet, um die beiden Welten miteinander zu verbinden, bricht ein unbarmherziger und erbitterter Krieg um die Vorherrschaft in Azeroth los, der auf beiden Seiten große Opfer fordert. Die vermeintlichen Gegner ahnen jedoch nicht, dass bald schon eine weitere Bedrohung auftaucht, die beide Völker vernichten könnte. Statt sich zu bekämpfen, müssen sie nun zusammenhalten. Ein Bündnis wird geschlossen und zwei Helden, ein Mensch und ein Ork, machen sich gemeinsam auf den Weg, dem Bösen im Kampf entgegenzutreten - für ihre Familien, ihre Völker und ihre Heimat. Was denkt das Team? Es soll an dieser Stelle verraten sein, Tim und Oli haben sich anno 2007 beim gemeinsamen Zocken von World of Warcraft kennengelernt und gemeinsam spannende Zeiten in einer erfolgreichen Raidgilde (Für die Experten: "Panic!" auf Norgannon) verlebt. Tobi, der mit diesem Cast sein Debüt im Serienrepublik Team gibt, kennt das Spiel nur vom Hörensagen, ist auch ansonsten eher skeptisch gegenüber Themenfilmen und hält mit seiner Meinung nicht hinter dem Berg. Ohne Hintergrundwissen, wirken viele der Figuren für ihn eher blass oder zu stark überzeichnet und alles was das Fanherz höher schlagen lässt, nimmt er natürlich nicht besonders emotional zur Kenntnis. Felo war schon im Vorfeld zu diesem Cast eher ähem sagen wir mal: Not amused von Warcraft und der Art wie in diesem Film und eigentlich auch in der gesamten Nerdszene die Charaktere mit ihren dicken Muskelpaketen und Kampfrüstungen dargestellt werden. Daher war er ganz happy, diesmal eine Pause vom Cast nehmen zu können und entspannt schöneren Dingen fröhnen zu können, gegönnt sei es ihm. ;-) Die schöneren Dinge, so gibt er zu, könnte man ja auch in Fantasyfilmen zu sehen bekommen. Aber, zu seinem großen Bedauern, verrutscht der Leder-BH ja doch niemals. ;-) Die Sendung wird abgerundet durch eine leicht tragische Anekdote aus seiner Vergangenheit, in der World of Warcraft beinahe das Leben eines kleinen Hündchens gekostet hat. Aber mal im Ernst: Daran ist der Film jetzt wirklich total unschuldig! Und wieder einmal haben wir versuchen, in diesem Podcast die Handlung anzudiskutieren, ohne zu viel vorwegzugreifen. Wir haben uns intensiver mit einigen Details beschäftigt, lassen aber mehr als die Hälfte des Films offen, damit ihr immer noch entscheiden könnt, den Film anzuschauen, ohne bereits komplett gespoilert zu sein. Wir sprechen dafür unsere Empfehlung aus!
