Denver's public transit agency RTD has had a rough couple of years. Almost a full year of track maintenance and slowdowns led to a nearly 20% decline in light rail ridership, but ridership across the network overall is down, too. With even more light rail maintenance expected in the next few years, RTD's budget is projected to hit multi-billion deficits in the early 2030s. So what's the plan to get back on track? And if the answer is more money, who will pay? RTD CEO and General Manager joins producer Paul Karolyi to discuss what she thinks the biggest problems are, her plan for the budget deficit, and what she does when her train is late. Paul referenced Nate Minor's reporting for CPR about the senior leaders who left RTD in recent years and quoted the emailed statement Johnson shared with the Denver Post for this recent story. Johnson quoted some recent data on ridership numbers and talked about RTD's new tap-to-pay technology. Today we're heading to the northern tip of Ibiza, a part of the island that feels worlds away from the dance floors and beach clubs you might picture. Long before Ibiza was known for nightlife, the island became a refuge in the 1940s for writers, artists, and free thinkers. This influx planted the seeds for the island's long tradition of individuality, artistry, and living life on one's own terms. Joining me to explore all of this is David Mulin, the General Manager of Six Senses Ibiza, a stunning sanctuary focused on wellness, sustainability, and creativity. We discuss what makes northern Ibiza so distinct, the rituals and experiences that capture the soul of the property, and how the island's bohemian history still shapes everything from its food to its community to its energy. The rise of AI may well be the most urgent topic facing the consulting industry today. But beyond the hype, how can firms successfully use AI to transform their operating model? In this episode of the Future of the Firm podcast, Dan Diasio, Global consulting AI Leader at EY, and Colm Sparks-Austin, Americas Tech Consulting Leader at EY, join our Head of Content, Emma Carroll, to re-imagine consulting through the prism of AI. We address the following questions and more: How can firms move past retrofitting AI into old processes and instead rethink how they operate from first principles? How are firms managing the major challenges around pricing AI-enabled services? What are the limits of using AI in professional services? (If there are any). What will the professional services workforce look like in 2030? What are clients buying in the AI space? What is the single biggest pitfall firms must avoid when trying to get the best results out of AI? If you enjoyed this conversation, don't miss our sister podcast, Business Leader's Voice. In a recent episode, we talked to Ahmed Abdel Wahab, General Manager for India at Mars, about what it takes to be a truly authentic leader today, particularly in a time of volatility.

Episode 89: Adam Dennis. Fellow goalie and current president of the North Bay Battalion Adam Dennis stopped by the pro hockeypod this week to share his story and his rise in Major Junior Hockey. I was fortunate enough to train many summers with Adam at a local goalie school and followed his career with great interest. Adam was a 14th round draft pick to the Guelph Storm of the OHL but he didn't let that stop him from achieving his goals. A couple years later Adam was a starting goalie in the OHL appearing in back to back Memorial Cups , where in his second season, he would hoist the trophy with the London Knights and in doing so Adam was drafted to the NHL by the Buffalo Sabres, soon beginning his pro journey. This included three years in the AHL before heading over to Europe to play in Italy and Germany. He was also fortunate to represent the Italian National team in multiple tournaments during his career. Once he was done playing, Adam received a job with the OHL player development for three years before joining the North Bay Battalion as a assistant coach, assistant, general manager, and goalie coach. We talked about all his responsibilities and what he learned along the way. He was then promoted to General Manager of North Bay, where they appeared in three straight conference finals in the OHL. Adam has since then been promoted to President of the hockey club. It was great to catch up with an old training partner who I looked up to and hear how he has worked his way up the ranks. We still had lots to talk about so could be a follow up episode coming. Hope you enjoy!
Happy holidays. I'm pumped to share today's podcast with you during one of the most important, spiritual, and opportunity-rich seasons of the entire year. This is the season where reflection meets revelation. Where gratitude meets growth. And where faith meets fuel. Between Thanksgiving and New Year's, we are also given a sacred window to reflect, release, and realign with God and our many blessings. Listen, this season can be magical…but it can also be stressful, overwhelming, busy, and even emotionally heavy. And if we're not intentional, the holidays can drain us instead of fuel us. So today, I want to walk you through a simple, clear, faith-centered 5- week journey to get your heart right, your mind right, your spirit right… and position you for PURPOSE, PRESENCE, and POWER heading into a brand-new year. How does that sound? In this week's episode, I'm sharing 5 spiritual and personal growth goals that will help you deepen your faith, reduce your stress, elevate your energy, and walk into 2026 with more clarity, passion, & purpose. I hope that fires you up! Specifically, here is what I will be addressing in your "5-Week Spiritual Reset Program" (Ep. 455 of the IMPACT SHOW): 1. Daily "First 10" Spiritual Practice and how it can help ground you and give you even more gratitude on the daily… 2. Sabbath Rhythm Once a Week and how it lowers cortisol, strengthens faith, and restores your mental/emotional battery. 3. Move Your Body Daily with Purpose (Minimum: 30 Minutes a Day) and how this can help lower cortisol, decrease stress, and improve your daily energy. 4. Speak Life Daily (Words of Encouragement Challenge) and how this will strengthen relationships, build joy, and cultivate even more humility and service. 5. Create Your 2026 Vision with God. Spend time between now and New Year's in vision-creation and prayer and you will enter the New Year aligned, focused, and spiritually fueled. A few other things to think about and reflect upon as you answer some deep questions. Be honest. Be real. Go deep. First, ask yourself these 5-reflection questions: o What did God teach me this year? o What prayers were answered? o What trials did I overcome? o Where did I grow? o Where do I still need healing? Then ask yourself these 3-questions that can help mold you to who you are 'today' and who you will become 'tomorrow': o Who is God calling me to become? o What is God asking me to release? o What is God preparing me to build? Lastly, I want to remind you of something today: Life brings seasons of triumph and seasons of trial. The mountaintop moments remind us of God's abundance; the valleys remind us of His presence in our weakness. Remember, 'My faith has carried me through the highest mountains and the lowest valleys.' Just like Psalm 23:4 says: 'Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.' There are Mountains. And there are Valleys. And God is present in both. KEEP GOING!! Grab your journal, grab your coffee, lace up your shoes if you're on a walk…and let's dive in. Buckle up, because this is going to be one of those episodes—the kind that blesses your spirit and stokes your soul as we go deep. Thanks for being YOU and I hope that you and yours have a very happy holiday season that's full of peace, joy, and love. Aucklanders are strongly rejecting a proposed fortnightly rubbish collection trial in select suburbs. The six month trial would start in February, and involve 10-thousand homes in Te Atatu Peninsula, Panmure, Tamaki, Clendon Park and Weymouth. Of the more than five thousand submissions, 78 percent were opposed. Auckland Council's Waste Solutions General Manager Justine Haves told Heather du Plessis-Allan that a final decision will be made next month, but their goal is to cut down waste. She says there's lots of evidence from other councils that fortnightly collections makes a huge difference to the volume of waste. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Changing the culture of a 400,000-person company isn't just hard—it's the kind of transformation most leaders wouldn't even attempt. But when Phil Gilbert joined IBM as General Manager of Design in 2010, that's exactly what he set out to do. And remarkably, he had a lot of success. Visit our Substack for bonus content and more: https://designbetterpodcast.com/p/phil-gilbert Phil led one of the most ambitious design transformations in corporate history, hiring over 1,000 designers, creating IBM's design thinking framework, and embedding a new way of working across nearly 180 countries. Now, with his new book Irresistible Change, Phil is sharing the blueprint for how he did it—and more importantly, how you can apply these lessons to your own organization. In this episode, we talk with Phil about treating change like a high-stakes product, why IBM's transformation was opt-in rather than top-down, and what it takes to win over engineers who've spent decades deeply entrenched in a technical worldview. We also explore the design thinking bootcamp that became legendary within IBM, the intentional design of physical studio spaces, and what happened after Phil left the company. Phil's insights aren't just for those leading massive organizations—they're for anyone trying to spark meaningful change, build enthusiasm without mandates, and create work that actually matters to the people doing it. Bio Phil Gilbert is best known for leading IBM's 21st century transformation as their General Manager of Design. After selling his third startup to IBM in 2010, Phil was asked by IBM in 2012 to use design thinking, coupled with agile, to update how IBM's teams worked. The transformation became the subject of a Harvard Business School case study, the documentary film The Loop, and feature articles in the New York Times, Fortune Magazine, Forbes, Bloomberg, INC and many others. Phil's 45-year career spans startups, large corporations, and board memberships, where he has led organizations ranging from solo ventures to those with 400,000 employees. In 2018 Phil was inducted into the New York Foundation for the Arts' Hall of Fame. In 2019, the State of Oklahoma (Phil's native state) named him an Oklahoma Creativity Ambassador for his achievements in the world of creative thinking and innovation. Phil left full-time operational responsibilities at IBM in 2022 in order to focus on helping the next generation of entrepreneurs, business, and military leaders understand how to impact culture at scale, to improve innovation and team performance. Phil lives in Austin, Texas. *** Premium Episodes on Design Better This ad-supported episode is available to everyone. From Transactional Service to Relationship Building with the Help of Technology Shep interviews Pasquale DeMaio, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect. He talks about how Amazon leverages AI and technology to enhance customer service, with a "better together" approach where automation and human agents work hand-in-hand to create efficient, empathetic, and proactive customer experiences. This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more: What is the "better together" approach in customer service technology and human interaction? How can automation and AI improve efficiency in handling repetitive customer service tasks? Why is genuine empathy important in customer service, and can technology replicate it? How does empowering human agents with technology lead to better customer outcomes? How can customer insights from support interactions drive continuous improvement? Top Takeaways: Customer service works best when technology and real people come together. While AI and automation can make things faster and easier, people still want to talk to humans for help with complex or emotional problems. The goal should always be to use AI to support employees, not replace them. Technology should make it easier for humans to do what they do best: listen, empathize, and solve tricky issues. It's important to treat every customer with respect and kindness, as you would a friend. Customers want to feel valued, not manipulated, so the best approach is to be sincere by helping them in a way that matches their needs and preferences. Every interaction is an opportunity to build a relationship and encourage customers to return. Focusing on both solving the issue and making people feel good about the experience creates loyal customers. Modern tools allow companies to analyze every conversation, not just a few. Every conversation with your customers, whether by phone or chat, is a rich source of information that can reveal trends, problems, and opportunities. This real-time insight can help fix issues faster, spot patterns, and make better decisions to improve service for everyone. Taking action before problems start, or even before the customer notices there's a problem, makes for an amazing customer experience. When a customer encounters a problem, contacting them with a new option before they ask for help is an example of proactive service. The best companies work to prevent problems or solve them instantly, making customers feel cared for and stress-free. AI can make agents' jobs better, not obsolete. AI can handle the boring and repetitive parts of the job, like taking notes or finding information, so people can focus on helping customers. This makes work more enjoyable and lets agents do what they're best at, which is solving problems and building relationships. The end goal should be more than just fixing a problem. Create a positive memory. Make every interaction with a customer one that leaves them feeling happy, satisfied, and eager to return. Plus, Shep and Pasquale answer the question, "Can computers fake empathy?" Tune in! Quote: "Humans are core to the experience. The end customer is a human being, and often, the main contact they have with a company is through human customer service. Everything we do with technology should be designed to fade into the background and allow any human being to be more effective." About: Pasquale DeMaio is the Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect, the cloud-based contact center solution from Amazon Web Services. Amazon Connect leverages the same underlying technology that Amazon's own global customer service team uses to manage millions of customer interactions every day. Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio. Learn more about your ad choices. Eddie Campbell has been woven into the automotive world for decades. Most of those years were spent where he belonged — in service — the heart of the dealership. Beyond resort leadership, Ohran is deeply involved in the broader ski industry and the Tahoe community.
