In this warm conversation Tembi and Albiona cover:How From Scratch began — writing personal grief into a story that reaches others, and how that book later became a Netflix limited series. (Simon & Schuster)What “re-nesting” means (replacing the idea of an “empty nest” with a more generative, whole concept) and practical ways parents can prepare emotionally for children leaving home. (People.com)The creative process Tembi uses: listening, journaling, & exploring different art forms; writing as a practice to slow down and make meaning. (tembilocke.com)Concrete ideas listeners can use right away: short daily rituals (15–45 min), journaling prompts, scheduling “pre-planned joy,” somatic self-care, and negotiating new family rhythms like weekly check-ins.A deep look at Someday, Now — why Tembi created an immersive audio experience (ambient Sicily soundscapes plus narration), and what she hopes listeners will feel after they finish it: that there is possibility, love, and room for transformation even in endings. Nick is joined once again by TV critic Dan Fienberg from The Hollywood Reporter for a lively breakdown of the Emmy Awards, from the winners who deserved it to the surprises no one saw coming. They also wade into the latest chaos from the Big Brother house and review new shows, including the Netflix drama Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman and a revealing new documentary about Charlie Sheen. Esmeralda Leon jumps in later for a lighter turn as she and Nick marvel at one of the strangest mail-order catalogs ever printed. The Best of Collections Etc. is packed with bizarre inventions, unnecessary gadgets, and a few items so inappropriate they leave Nick and Esma equal parts horrified and hysterical. [Ep 388]

Welcome to “When Words Fail, Music Speaks,” the podcast that turns melodies into medicine for the soul.In today's episode host James Cox sits down with Jastin Artis—a gold‑and‑platinum‑streamed indie producer, songwriter, A&R mentor, and relentless “chronic‑health warrior.” From the origins of his unusual middle name—Jastin, a blend of his parents' names, and Artist, a tribute to a grandfather he never met—to his journey from a class‑room clarinet player to a guitar‑driven “hip‑hop Renaissance” creator, Justin shares the stories that have shaped his sound. We'll dive deep into his creative process, exploring how a simple keyboard chord evolves into the layered instrumentals of Love in Darkness and the genre‑bending anthem “Tag This.” Jastin reveals the challenges of living with fibromyalgia, insomnia and low testosterone, and how music, meditation, video games, and even Netflix binge‑watching become his lifelines when depression looms. The conversation also touches on:The power of naming and identity in an artis' career. The mastermind collaborations he'd love to see—Pharrell, Jimi Hendrix, and a female legend like Queen Latifah or Alanis Morissette. The songs that move him to the brink of tears—Lauryn Hill's MTV Unplugged performance and John Mayer's “Gravity.”A glimpse of his future merch empire (stickers, throw‑pillows, beach towels) and his relentless drive to turn streams into tangible support for creators. If you've ever felt the weight of chronic illness, the sting of creative doubt, or simply crave a soundtrack for resilience, this episode is your reminder that when words stumble, music never does. Grab your headphones, press play, and let Jastin's story inspire the next stanza of your own journey. As always.....when words fail...music speaks!

Comedy Saved Me Podcast - Episode Show Notes Guest: Thom Tran Episode Description In this powerful episode of Comedy Saved Me, host Lynn Hoffman sits down with multi-talented veteran, comedian, musician, and activist Thom Tran for an inspiring conversation about resilience, healing, and finding purpose through laughter. Thom’s journey from combat soldier to comedy stage is nothing short of remarkable. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at just 18 years old, Thom served as a Communications and Civil Affairs Sergeant within the Army’s Special Operations Community. His military career came to an abrupt end in 2003 when a sniper’s bullet struck the back of his skull during combat operations in Iraq, just four days after crossing the border. Despite his injuries, Thom bandaged himself up and completed his 12-month tour—a testament to his incredible strength and dedication. Following his medical retirement in 2005, Thom discovered that comedy didn’t just change his life—it saved it. He channeled his experiences into stand-up comedy, eventually creating The GIs of Comedy Tour in 2010, a groundbreaking comedic troupe that has performed across the United States and in nearly two dozen countries, bringing healing laughter to military and civilian audiences alike. Lynn and Thom dive deep into how humor became his lifeline, the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life, and his mission to help other veterans through the transformative power of comedy. Special thanks to Dr. Ron Hirshberg and General Jack Hammond from Home Base for their support of our podcasts and for introducing us to Thom. For information on their amazing work go to https://homebase.org This episode is a testament to the healing power of laughter and the resilience of the human spirit—a must-listen for anyone who believes in the transformative power of comedy. Show Notes Guest: Thom Tran - Veteran, Comedian, Musician, Actor & Activist Key Topics Discussed: • Thom’s early military enlistment at 18 and service in Army Special Operations • Combat injury in Iraq in 2003 and the long road to medical retirement • How comedy became a lifesaving force in his post-military life • Creating The GIs of Comedy Tour and its impact on military communities • Performing for audiences around the world and raising over $50,000 for military families • The healing power of laughter for trauma survivors • Transitioning from soldier to entertainer • Building a career in LA comedy clubs and broadcast radio • Recent recognition at comedy festivals and future projects About Thom Tran: Thom Tran is a Los Angeles-based comedian, musician, and U.S. military veteran who transformed personal trauma into purpose through comedy. After a combat injury ended his Army Special Operations career in 2005, Thom discovered stand-up comedy and never looked back. In 2010, he founded The GIs of Comedy Tour, which has performed internationally and raised significant funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. His work has been featured on Netflix’s “Larry Charles’ Dangerous World of Comedy,” and he recently completed a decade-long career as a radio traffic anchor for KNX News. In 2025, he was named to the SLO Comedy Festival “Best of The Fest” and selected as a “Next Wave Top 5 Comics to Watch” at the Blue Whale Comedy Festival. On this week's Stansberry Investor Hour, Dan and Corey welcome Edwin Dorsey back to the show. Edwin is the founder and editor of The Bear Cave newsletter, in which he conducts deep, investigative analyses of public companies for his 80,000-plus subscribers. Edwin kicks things off by discussing The Bear Cave and his extensive work exposing corporate misconduct. He says, currently, his favorite companies to find for shorting purposes are those that are going to be hurt by technological innovations. Edwin gives education-support company Chegg as one example of a business that has already been disrupted by AI and has been employing questionable cancellation practices. And he discusses the growing market for lab-grown diamonds and how that will harm traditional retailers such as Signet Jewelers. (1:22) Next, Edwin talks about QMMM, a U.S.-listed Chinese company whose stock is being manipulated by overseas groups. He goes in depth on the manipulation tactics these groups use on social media to pump and dump shares of unprofitable companies, why it's so difficult to pinpoint the scammers and investors running this dark network, the investigative research he's doing to stay up to date on the scams, and how crowdsourcing from the community has helped increase awareness. (18:33) Finally, Edwin warns listeners that the overseas scammers will often engage in after-hours market manipulation, so the best time to short the companies is intraday. He further advises listeners not to take large positions because there is so much volatility in these scam companies. This leads to a conversation about why Edwin has never criticized electric-vehicle maker Tesla in his newsletter, the legendary saga of Netflix ex-CEO Reed Hastings responding publicly to short seller Whitney Tilson, and which sectors Edwin believes will be hardest hit by AI. (36:49)
