Dutch & Tena review the Netflix series 'Supercell,' created and directed by British rapper Rapman. This series follows the lives of five black individuals from South London who discover they have superpowers due to a mutation in the sickle cell gene. The show cleverly ties in real-world issues such as the medical industry's historical mistreatment of black people and the systemic racism that persists in various forms. Each character in 'Supercell' represents different struggles faced by the black community, from dealing with incarceration and financial instability to navigating complex family dynamics and gang violence. The series also highlights the role of a shadow government that monitors and exploits these individuals for their powers, drawing parallels to real-life surveillance and control over marginalized communities.

The result? Anarchy. And possibly madness. In this episode of Afterhours, we begin by sharing our thoughts on Rapman's new Netflix series, Supercell. The show follows a group of seemingly ordinary Black people from South London, unified by a family history of sickle cell disease, who unexpectedly develop superpowers. They discover each other and fend off entrapment by a secret organisation seeking to control them. Next, we discuss popular YouTuber MrBeast, who took his philanthropic efforts to Jamaica, El Salvador, and Argentina to give away 100 homes to families in need. One family living near the top of a mountain in Jamaica was in dire need as the home they were living in was unstable and could have collapsed at any moment. The dilapidated, unstable home was replaced with a brand-new one. The new house came furnished and had a tank for running water and electricity. In the final part, we discuss Bailey Anne Kennedy, who was crowned the new Miss Maryland USA in June. She became the first transgender woman to win the title.

Media depictions of Black men historically have been centered around not so flattering stereotypes: unintelligent, lazy, prone to violence, hypersexual — and worst of all, criminal and dangerous. When he's out in public, acclaimed actor Eric Kofi Abrefa tells I SEE U he has to be make himself small and always be conscious of not appearing too aggressive. He's garnered a growing fanbase because of his breakout role as the villain in the STARZ hit crime-drama series, BMF (Black Mafia Family). He explains that a white actor is given the opportunity to portray any — and every kind of role and the audience ‘won't bat an eye' or think twice about that depiction. But when a Black actor walks on stage, without uttering a word or reciting a line of script, he is a “walking political statement.” Does this mindset unknowingly restrict audiences' thinking of what Black actors can achieve or accomplish?      Join us as host Eddie Robinson chats with the man BMF fans “love to hate:” British/Ghanaian actor, Eric Kofi Abrefa. Star of the biblical comedy epic, The Book of Clarence, Kofi Abrefa shares why he is proud of his Ghanaian ancestry and why he is the biggest promotor of Ghana's film industry. The London-based actor also reveals details of an upcoming sci-fi Netflix series that will feature an all-Black cast with superhero powers.

I am very thrilled to be able to introduce Dionne Farrell as this week’s podcast guest.  Dionne is a Development Executive at BBC Films where she has worked across several of their releases, including Rapman’s Blue Story and Francis Lee’s Ammonite which is closing this year’s London Film Festival. Dionne began her career as an office runner for Raw before moving into script development as the BFI’s Script Editor Trainee. We talk about those experiences, as well as gaining confidence, learning when to speak up but also finding value in silence, slowness and the idea of not feeling guilty when we’re not being maximally productive, how she assesses projects and trusting her gut instinct when it comes to championing them.  I’m really grateful to Dionne for her openness and I hope as ever you enjoy the insight into this part of the film industry.

Busy P. Feat. Mayer Hawthrone - Genie An Exetended Edit / Mix By Mr. Turner https://hypeddit.com/track/y02gw7 Pedro Winter (born Pierre Winter; 21 April 1975), also known by the stage name Busy P, is a French DJ, music producer, record label owner, and artist manager. Winter managed Daft Punk from 1996 to 2008 and currently manages Cassius and artists on Ed Banger Records, a label that he owns and runs. Winter was born on 21 April 1975 in Paris, France. He grew up under the influence of heavy metal, hip-hop, and rock that would later show in his music. He discovered electronic music in 1992 with his brother, Thomas Winter. Shortly after, he started DJing at the What's Up Bar and organizing the events Hype at Folies Pigalle and then Smoker The Palace with David Guetta. Pedro met Daft Punk in 1996 when he was a law student; the soon-to-be-famous duo asked him to be their manager, and he obliged. In 2002, he created Headbangers Entertainment, through which he managed various artists including Cassius. A year later, Winter founded the label Ed Banger Records, a music division that first signed Mr. Flash with the release "Radar Rider", then signing Justice, followed by SebastiAn in 2004, and later Uffie, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo and more. In 2008, he stopped managing Daft Punk to focus on his label and music career as Busy P. For Phoenix's debut album, United, Winter performed on a Rapman synthesizer in the song "Funky Squaredance". His remix single of Fancy's "What's Your Name Again" was a club hit on its release. The music video for this was again created under the Ed Banger Records label. Pedro was married to Nadege Winter, head of public relations at Parisian boutique Colette. His brother, Thomas Winter, an indie and electro house vocalist, is a former tattooshop owner.

This edition of Front Row has a regal air. As the third series of The Crown airs next week, with Olivia Coleman taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Claire Foy, Stig Abell talks to Tobias Menzies about the challenges of playing Prince Phillip, previously Matt Smith's part. Covering the years 1964 – 1977, in this series the Royals have all four of their children and are more settled in their domestic lives. But events in the wider world are making their impact, from the election of Harold Wilson as Prime Minister to the Apollo moon landing. Six is a musical about the wives of Henry VIII which started out as a Cambridge student production in 2017 and is now a transatlantic phenomenon, about to tour the UK and open on Broadway. Professor of Musical Theatre Millie Taylor reviews. Shiro’s Story was a series of three videos telling the story, partly in rap, of a young man caught in a world of violence and retribution. Each amassed over 7 million views and Jay-Z was a fan. Their creator, Rapman, has now made a full length feature film, Blue Story, about the gang wars he witnessed while growing up in South London. Will his YouTube audience follow him to the cinema? He joins Front Row to talk about who gets to tell stories in film. And news of the winner of the £10,000 Goldsmiths Prize for fiction that "opens up new possibilities for the novel form", announced this evening. Presenter: Stig Abell Producer: Julian May

As the amount of scientific data continues to grow, researchers need new tools to help them visualize complex data. Immersive data-visualisations are helpful, yet fail to provide tactile feedback and sensory feedback on spatial orientation, as provided from tangible objects. The gap in sensory feedback from virtual objects leads to the development of tangible representations of geospatial information to solve real world problems. Examples are animated globes, interactive environments like tangible GIS, and on demand 3D prints. The production of a tangible representation of a scientific data set is one step in a line of scientific thinking, leading from the physical world into scientific reasoning and back: The process starts with a physical observation, or from a data stream generated by an environmental sensor. This data stream is turned into a geo-referenced data set. This data is turned into a volume representation which is converted into command sequences for the printing device, leading to the creation of a 3D printout. As a last, but crucial step, this new object has to be documented and linked to the associated metadata, and curated in long term repositories to preserve its scientific meaning and context. The workflow to produce tangible 3D data-prints from science data at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) was implemented as a software based on the Free and Open Source Geoinformatics tools GRASS GIS and Paraview. The workflow was successfully validated in various application scenarios at GFZ using a RapMan printer to create 3D specimens of elevation models, geological underground models, ice penetrating radar soundings for planetology, and space time stacks for Tsunami model quality assessment. While these first pilot applications have demonstrated the feasibility of the overall approach, current research focuses on the provision of the workflow as Software as a Service (SAAS), thematic generalisation of information content and long term curation.
