In this episode of Superpowers for Good, Cameron Neil, CEO of LendForGood, and Peter Rostovsky, CEO of Raiseway, discussed their new collaboration that aims to close that gap. Together, they're making it easier for impact-driven businesses to raise capital and for everyday people to lend across borders.LendForGood is already empowering impact enterprises in places like Asia, Africa, Latin America, and beyond to access much-needed debt financing from a global pool of lenders. Now, with Raiseway's support, these entrepreneurs will have access to tools that make running a crowdfunding campaign simpler, more efficient and more likely to succeed.Peter explained, "There are so many elements to a crowdfunding campaign...this is super challenging even for large organizations...we want to be that platform that supports the campaign throughout the process."The two companies align not just in function, but in values. Cameron emphasized that "the gap for small business capital access is significant...it's a real growing problem" that requires global infrastructure and collaboration to solve. The World Bank and UN have estimated that SMEs in emerging markets face an annual $5 trillion funding shortfall. The traditional financial system simply isn't built to serve them effectively. As banks consolidate, smaller loans become less profitable and more scarce.Raiseway and LendForGood aim to fill that void. Their shared belief in the potential of debt crowdfunding—versus equity financing, which isn't ideal for most small businesses—fuels their work. As Peter noted, "Your community is never going to foreclose you."Though not currently raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign, both platforms are building the infrastructure and momentum for an ecosystem where everyday investors can meaningfully support small businesses doing good in the world. This collaboration underscores the power of mission-aligned tech partnerships to tackle some of the world's most stubborn problems. By streamlining access to impact capital, they're helping to rewrite the rules of small business finance—on a global scale.tl;dr:LendForGood and Raiseway collaborate to simplify cross-border impact crowdfunding and support small businesses globally.Cameron explains how LendForGood connects global lenders with impact enterprises needing debt financing.Peter shares Raiseway's role in streamlining campaigns and making crowdfunding more accessible and effective.Cameron and Peter discuss the massive global SME funding gap and why crowd lending is a vital solution. They reveal their superpowers—collaboration and courage—and offer tips on using them to drive meaningful impact. How to Develop Collaboration and Connectivity As a SuperpowerCameron Neil's superpower lies in his ability to foster collaboration and build meaningful connections. Reflecting on his approach, he shared, “I have found an ability to… build collaborative initiatives, to build posses… or a network to form.” Cameron's knack for bringing people together with shared goals and inspiring them to work collectively has been a cornerstone of his success. He credits this skill with driving impactful projects like LendForGood's partnership with Raiseway.Illustrative Anecdote:Cameron's collaboration with Peter Rostovsky is a testament to his superpower. By recognizing the synergy between LendForGood and Raiseway, Cameron initiated a partnership that equips impact enterprises with tools to succeed in crowdfunding. Reflecting on this collaboration, he explained, “Peter and I connected and we took it somewhere… bringing our organizations and others on this journey.”Tips for Developing the Superpower:Visualize Outcomes: Identify a future state or goal that requires collective effort to achieve.Seek Alignment: Find individuals or organizations that share your objectives and values.Inspire Participation: Use your vision to motivate others to join and contribute meaningfully.Build Trust: Focus on integrity and mutual respect to strengthen collaborative relationships.Embrace Diversity: Collaborate with people who bring complementary skills and perspectives.By following Cameron's example and advice, you can make collaboration and connectivity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world. How to Develop Courage to Speak Truth As a SuperpowerPeter Rostovsky's superpower is his courage to speak truth, even when facing potential backlash. Reflecting on a life-changing moment, Peter shared, “Something drastic really changed… I started being far more open about my views.” This courage to express his convictions, even at the cost of venture investor interest, has strengthened his connection with supporters and colleagues. His openness has inspired others, creating a space for dialogue and solidarity.Illustrative Anecdote:Peter's courage was tested following October 7th, when he began publicly sharing his views on Israel's policy in Gaza. Despite knowing that his candidness would alienate venture investors, Peter chose integrity over business interests. This bold stance not only demonstrated his values but also attracted a supportive community that shares his vision for Raiseway.Tips for Developing the Superpower:Find Supportive Allies: Surround yourself with people who encourage and respect your honesty.Prioritize Integrity: Focus on values over short-term gains to build lasting trust.Practice Courage: Start by sharing your beliefs in safe spaces before expanding to larger platforms.Embrace Vulnerability: Accept the risks of being open as a necessary part of authentic communication.By following Peter's example and advice, you can make courage to speak truth a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileCameron Neil (he/him):Co-Founder and CEO, LendForGoodAbout LendForGood: LendForGood is a global impact loan syndication platform mobilising millions in impact finance for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The show opens with a reminder of VP JD Vance's worry that our European allies are not sharing the same shared values we once had, which dovetails into the lawfare against Marine LePen in France. Another activist judge believes he controls the hiring and firing at the CIA. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) cannot find any statutory and Constitutional basis for the wielding of such inferior court powers. DOGE reveals that the U.S. Institute of Peace not only deleted 1TB of financial data, which was thankfully recovered by the DOGE team, but we are getting a slight glimpse into their lavish spending. On top of that, they were also doling out taxpayer money to the Taliban and Iraq. We look at the effects of the woke mind virus on people and how sad and debilitating it is. It causes fits of rage, damage to property, criminal behavior and a desire to blame the innocent over the law-breakers. So, let's remind you about that loan Musk took to get Tesla off the ground. He qualified under a loan program conceived by President Obama and put into law by a Democrat controlled congress. And, while several other also took a loan, he paid his back in full, early and with interest. Many of the others went bankrupt and had their loans forgiven. The Atlantic screws up another story. Turns out the “innocent' Maryland man deported to El Salvador was really an MS13 gang member, now designated as a terrorist. Border Czar Tom Homan makes no apologies for what they are doing. Leslie Stahl is a filthy piece of human debris. Interviewing a Jewish hostage of Hamas who was freed thanks to Donald Trump, when he comments he was starved, she immediately tried to find an excuse, asking him to consider if that was only because Hamas didn't have food for themselves? He immediately told her they ate in front of him as part of his torture. We close with a few back-to-back stories. A childless woman thinks she should get Meternity leave. The Anteater himself, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) who is worried about oligarchs, paid his stepson over $800,000 to run his foundation. The Village Idiot Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) demonstrated real racial bigotry toward Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and his wife, so we get a Jim Gossett satire song about the ghetto. Please take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Can Europeans and Americans still speak of shared values? The longest-ever speech by a US president to a joint session of Congress doubling down on an America First vision of foreign policy that's heavy on the sticks, light on the carrots. In the past, critics of the US dismissed talks of exporting democracy by pointing to Vietnam, Latin America and Iraq, but the US has also put its might behind international institutions to broker peace and set up norms for doing business that the whole world could trust.  Globalisation without a US backstop has consequences. Has the US become a nationalist illiberal democracy or does it all return to normal when next year's midterm elections roll around?Europe finds itself having to rewrite its entire security architecture on the fly. Here you see Emmanuel Macron trying to convince one of Donald Trump's European allies, Hungary's Viktor Orban, ahead of an EU summit that's facing the sudden end of the post-1945 order. It shouldn't be surprising that the generations who had little or no role in creating the wealth have little respect for how hard it was to earn it and preserve it. In this episode, we talk with Pam Mowry, CEO of Canterbury Voices, about the importance of shared vision and values among families and the role that philanthropy plays in a successful financial plan.

Dr. Joscha Bach discusses advanced AI, consciousness, and cognitive modeling. He presents consciousness as a virtual property emerging from self-organizing software patterns, challenging panpsychism and materialism. Bach introduces "Cyberanima," reinterpreting animism through information processing, viewing spirits as self-organizing software agents. He addresses limitations of current large language models and advocates for smaller, more efficient AI models capable of reasoning from first principles. Bach describes his work with Liquid AI on novel neural network architectures for improved expressiveness and efficiency. The interview covers AI's societal implications, including regulation challenges and impact on innovation. Bach argues for balancing oversight with technological progress, warning against overly restrictive regulations. Throughout, Bach frames consciousness, intelligence, and agency as emergent properties of complex information processing systems, proposing a computational framework for cognitive phenomena and reality. This is the #1 listened-to episode from the Purpose and Profit podcast. We're doing a rerun, so if you're new to the podcast, you don't miss this great conversation. Professor Mark Kramer is a senior fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a former senior lecturer at Harvard Business School and visiting lecturer at the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. He is also a co-founder and advisor with both FSG and the Shared Value Initiative. Mark has worked with leading companies around the world to find sources of competitive advantage by incorporating shared value into their business. Shared Value is defined as “policies and operating practices that enhance the competitiveness of a company while simultaneously advancing the economic and social conditions in the communities in which it operates.” He is also a member of the Creating Shared Value Advisory Board at Nestle. Alongside Harvard Professor Michael Porter, Mark has helped to introduce new concepts such as catalytic philanthropy, collective impact, impact investing, and shared value.  His course “Purpose & Profit” teaches creating shared value to both MBA's and executives alike. In this episode, we discuss: How Paypal is impacting thousands of small business owners How an insurance company expanded the average lifespan of their customers by 10 years Why government and NGOs won't be able to solve the world's biggest problems Key Takeaways:  How you do business is a choice. Instead of setting a bar of “do no harm” we can choose to act in a way that will leave the world better off because we existed. We can aim to delight future generations by the choices we make today. The examples Mark shared were so powerful at illustrating how, when a purpose is embedded into the heart of the business, it impacts innovation, identifying new revenue streams, and ultimately impact consumers in a positive way. When looking for businesses that are purpose-led and focused on shared value, Prof Mark Kramer instructs his students at Harvard Business School to look for companies that don't have a separate Corporate Social Responsibility or Sustainability department. If these activities are separate, they are rarely business integrated. What a great point, and a great reminder to business leaders. If you want your company to stand for something, and lead in that thing—whether it's being the most sustainable company in your industry, or like PayPal, democratizing access to financial tools—everyone in the company should be working to make it happen, not just one department.
