Hello, media consumers! Welcome to the first in a monthly series of special episodes in which we take an in-depth look at a single subject and then interview a guest to help us understand that subject. This month's subject is The New Yorker magazine and our guest is its editor, David Remnick. This month's issue kicks off with a discussion between Bryan and David about Netflix's new documentary on The New Yorker, ‘The New Yorker at 100,' including what they both liked (02:54) and disliked about it (11:43). Next, they recall their first interactions with The New Yorker (16:08) and then dive into the history of the magazine (22:31). Bryan and David then contemplate some questions about the magazine, including, “If you were stuck on a desert island, whose New Yorker collected works would you pick?” (29:36), “What is your favorite New Yorker cover?” (36:31), "What movie or TV show to come out of The New Yorker would you pick?” (45:20), and more. David and Bryan finish their discussion by asking “Can The New Yorker survive another century?”(59:21). The December Issue winds down with an interview with New Yorker editor David Remnick (1:11:17). He and Bryan discuss what it was like having a documentary crew around while he worked, what kind of news outlet he wants The New Yorker to be (1:15:43), how much he wants the magazine to be about the city (1:29:45), and so much more, here on the Press Box. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/01/2025): 3:05pm- The man allegedly responsible for shooting two National Guard members had been granted asylum from Afghanistan. While on Meet the Press, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Krisit Noem said initial investigations suggest the man became radicalized while in the United States. 3:10pm- In her latest editorial for The New York Post, Miranda Devine writes that a “damning report” labels the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a “rudderless ship” and “all f*cked up” under the leadership of Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino. The report alleges that Bongino has an “unfortunate obsession with social media.” 3:30pm- A report from Ernesto Londono of The New York Times documents rampant fraud plaguing Minnesota—dozens of people have been charged with stealing more than $1 billion in taxpayer money from programs meant to feed hungry children and provide therapy for autistic children. Critics of Governor Tim Walz say his administration allowed the fraud to persist “partly because state officials were fearful of alienating the Somali community” who were largely responsible for the scams. 3:50pm- It's finally here! “Be Nice to Matt DeSantis Week” kicks off. Earlier this year, Linda Kerns—Attorney & Pennsylvania Election Integrity Counsel for the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump—donated money to the Travis Manion Foundation during 1210 WPHT's fundraiser in exchange for Rich guaranteeing he would be nice to Matt for one full week before the end of the year. 4:05pm- A report from Ernesto Londono of The New York Times documents rampant fraud plaguing Minnesota—dozens of people have been charged with stealing more than $1 billion in taxpayer money from programs meant to feed hungry children and provide therapy for autistic children. Critics of Governor Tim Walz say his administration allowed the fraud to persist “partly because state officials were fearful of alienating the Somali community” who were largely responsible for the scams. 4:15pm- Is even Europe getting sick of far-left taxation policies? On Sunday, Switzerland rejected a referendum that would have placed a 50% inheritance tax on assets above 50 million Swiss francs, or about $62 million. 4:40pm- TV recommendations: Death by Lightning on Netflix—which is based on Candece Millard's book on the assassination of President James Garfield. 5:05pm- The man allegedly responsible for shooting two National Guard members had been granted asylum from Afghanistan. While on Meet the Press, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Krisit Noem said initial investigations suggest the man became radicalized while in the United States. National Guard member Sarah Beckstorm, sadly, died from her wounds. Meanwhile, Guardsman Andrew Wolfe remains in critical condition. West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Wolfe was responsive on Monday. 5:25pm- Last month, while speaking from the House floor, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) accused several Republicans including EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin of taking campaign donations from Jeffrey Epstein. However, her claim was horribly misleading. The donations were from a Dr. Jeffrey Epstein—a different Jeffery Epstein, with no relation to the predator. Astoundingly, Crockett recently doubled down on her outlandish claims during a segment on MS Now. 5:40pm- Linda Kerns calls in to outline the rules for “Be Nice to Matt Week”—so far, Rich has violated every instruction. 6:00pm- A Washington Post report states that Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized a series of deadly strikes on a drug trafficking boat in the Caribbean, ordering military officials to “kill everybody.” The directive, according to the report, led to a second strike killing several crew members that survived the initial assault on the vessel. 6:20pm- Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, and Johns Hopkins surgeon, Dr. Marty Makary weighed in on a theory that ...

The Cecil Hotel has been called many things: The Suicide, a skid row flophouse, the inspiration for American Horror Story, and the site of Elisa Lam's infamous elevator video. In this episode, we trace how an ordinary Beaux-Arts hotel became a “murder hotel” in the public imagination, from suicides and serial killers to viral footage, Netflix docuseries, and internet urban legends. This isn't a story about a haunted hotel… it's a story about how a hotel becomes haunted, and why the real horror is what happens to the living inside its walls. hauntedamericanhistory.comBarnes and Noble - https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-forgotten-borough-christopher-feinstein/1148274794?ean=9798319693334AMAZON: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FQPQD68SEbookGOOGLE: https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=S5WCEQAAQBAJ&pli=1KOBO: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-forgotten-borough-2?sId=a10cf8af-5fbd-475e-97c4-76966ec87994&ssId=DX3jihH_5_2bUeP1xoje_SMASHWORD: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1853316 !! In this episode, Jason Ingber sits down with comedian Menachem Kashanian, an Iranian-Jewish storyteller with one of the most shocking true experiences you'll ever hear. Menachem reveals how a supposed Netflix casting call for the show Tehran led him into a covert Israeli operation designed to rescue 500 Jewish refugees trapped in Syria. What began as a mysterious Facebook message turned into a month of tactical training, a new identity, and a mission known internally as "Free the Flute." He explains how he was trained to pose as an introverted Armenian musician, learned to play the nay (Middle Eastern flute), infiltrated a Syrian orchestra, and used music to gather intelligence inside refugee camps, ultimately helping save hundreds of lives. Menachem also shares hilarious and unbelievable stories from his personal life, including: • His eccentric billionaire uncle Darush, a dominant figure in Beverly Hills real estate • Wild encounters with Kris Jenner, the Kardashians, and Erewhon staff • The creation of his prank series Old Blood (Hun Parol) • His docuseries Know Before Who You Stand • His friendship with Floyd Mayweather, who quietly supports Jewish communities • A chilling conversation with Mika Kubi, the woman who interrogated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar for 180+ hours This episode blends comedy, Middle Eastern culture, real-life spy operations, and powerful Jewish storytelling, all through Menachem's unique, unfiltered voice.

Legendary homicide detective Frank Salerno joins us to break down the Night Stalker case in a way only the lead investigator can. Salerno led the task force that identified and captured Richard Ramirez, one of California's most violent and unpredictable serial killers. In this episode, he explains the crime scenes, the early clues law enforcement missed, how he and Gil Carrillo connected the attacks, and the evidence that finally exposed the suspect behind the “Night Stalker” murders. Salerno recounts the terror Los Angeles faced during the 1984–1985 crime spree, the strategy behind building the suspect profile, and the moment he realized the attacks were linked. He also details the forensics, the footprint evidence, inter-agency coordination, the victim patterns, and the critical mistakes that allowed Ramirez to be identified. This is the most comprehensive breakdown of the Night Stalker investigation from the detective who solved it. Frank Salerno is known for leading two of the biggest serial killer cases in California history — the Hillside Strangler and Night Stalker investigations. He later helped establish VICAP and trained homicide units across the country. His insights in this episode reveal the methodology, pressure, and decisions behind tracking one of America's most infamous serial predators.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/one-degree-of-scandalous-with-tom-zenner-and-kato-kaelin--6258576/support.

In 2012, NYPD officer Gilberto Valle's wife made a horrifying discovery: thousands of online chats where her husband discussed kidnapping, torturing, cooking, and eating women...including her.Valle was a member of Dark Fetish Net, a website for extreme sexual fantasies, where he shared detailed plans about cannibalizing real people he knew. The FBI arrested Valle and charged him with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The evidence was disturbing: graphic conversations about cooking women alive, over 100 unauthorized police database searches on potential victims, Google searches for "how to make chloroform," and real-world meetings with his targets. But here's the twist: Valle never kidnapped anyone. Never attempted to. Never took any concrete steps beyond online conversations and Google searches. Valle claimed it was all fantasy role-play. Prosecutors argued it was a genuine conspiracy. After a twelve-day trial featuring gruesome evidence and disturbing testimony, the jury convicted him. Valle faced life in federal prison...This case exploded into a national debate about thoughtcrime, free speech, and the limits of conspiracy law. Can you be imprisoned for disturbing fantasies? Where's the line between fantasy and criminal intent? Should online role-play be prosecutable as conspiracy?Join Robin as she breaks it down. ---------------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Gilberto Valle, Cannibal Cop, NYPD, conspiracy to kidnap, Dark Fetish Net, true crime podcast, criminal conspiracy, First Amendment, free speech, constitutional law, federal crime, wrongful conviction, jury verdict, acquittal, Judge Paul Gardephe, thoughtcrime, police corruption, database abuse, New York crime, federal prison, legal podcast, court case analysis, civil liberties, true crime 2024, criminal justice, sexual fetish, cannibalism, vorarephilia, internet crime, cyber crime, FBI investigation, federal trial, appeals court, Second Circuit, true threats, protected speech, actus reus, overt act, criminal intent, fantasy defenseBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-a-true-crime-podcast--4433638/support.Website: http://www.wesawthedevil.comPatreon: http://www.patreon.com/wesawthedevilDiscord: https://discord.gg/X2qYXdB4Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/WeSawtheDevilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/wesawthedevilpodcast.

We're back with a spoiler-filled double feature of ROOFMAN and Guillermo del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN (2025). We unpack why ROOFMAN feels like an instant “Reddit classic,” how it fits in that cozy mid-2000s Little Miss Sunshine / Logan Lucky / adult dramedy lane, and whether Channing Tatum just delivered one of his best performances opposite a lights-out Kirsten Dunst. Then we go long on GDT's FRANKENSTEIN.Is Oscar Isaac miscast or perfectly hammy as Victor? Is the movie too sympathetic to its creator, or just honest about tech-bro god complexes? How hard does Jacob Elordi cook as the Creature?Do the practical effects and gore outweigh the “Netflix look” of the CG backdrops?Mia Goth as the true nature-vs-nurture conscience of the movieFrankenstein as an AI / capitalism / “move fast and break things” parableTimestamps 00:00 - ROOFMAN spoiler review 28:20 - FRANKENSTEIN (2025) spoilers with Lee

Who really took the photo widely known as “Napalm Girl”? And does it really matter over a half-century later? In his new Netflix documentary “The Stringer”, Bao Nguyen (“The Greatest Night in Pop”) follows a journalistic team lead by Anglo-American Gary Knight as they seek to show that the real photographer on that day in 1972 in Trang Bang was not the renowned and fêted Pulitzer Prize-winning Nick Ut, of the Saigon AP Bureau, but a “stringer”, Nguyen Thanh Nghe, paid $20 flat and subsequently denied all credit. And Nguyen argues as well that it does matter not only to Nghe and his family, but also to: the Vietnamese people; the Vietnamese diaspora (who had long lionized Ut); to an America that has still not fully dealt with the war; and to the very nature of truth in an era when technology can both clarify and complicate provenance. You can stream “The Stringer” on Netflix. Follow: @baomnguyen on Instagram and X @topdocspod on Instagram and X The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.
