When I think about a business roadmap, I see it as the strategy that turns your vision into reality. Looking back, I wish I had one from the start. Entrepreneurs like myself often get lost in the hustle—focused on putting out fires and chasing growth without a real plan. And that's where things fall apart. After my conversation with Bruce Eckfeldt, I wish I had a well-crafted roadmap that could have saved me from unnecessary stress and reactive decisions. In this episode, he explains the difference between controlled growth and chaos and how it can help your business grow. About Bruce EckfeldtBruce Eckfeldt is an experienced entrepreneur and business coach who specializes in helping companies grow and prepare for successful exits. Over the years, he has led multiple businesses through big growth phases, building strong leadership teams and creating clear roadmaps for sustainable success. As a 5X Inc. 500 CEO Award Winner, Bruce knows firsthand what it takes to scale a business effectively. He's certified in Scaling Up, 3HAG/Metronomics, and Predictive Index, using these proven methods to guide businesses through challenges and unlock their full potential. Bruce is also passionate about personal growth and leadership development, which he incorporates into his coaching.Whether you're looking to grow, build a high-performing team, or plan for an eventual exit, Bruce offers the experience and strategies needed to make it happen. His focus is on helping entrepreneurs create businesses that are strong, scalable, and ready for whatever comes next.Key Insights:Think like a CEO, not a founder. As your business grows, you need to stop doing everything yourself. Trust your team to handle the day-to-day so you can focus on leading and growing the company.Focus on sustainable growth, not hustle. Entrepreneurs often prioritize busy work over structure, but Bruce believes that without the right processes and leadership team, growth can lead to chaos. Set up scalable systems early on for sustainable, controlled growth.Reduce business risks. Whenever possible, try to reduce reliance on key clients or single revenue streams. Not only does it make your business vulnerable if something goes wrong, but it also limits your growth potential. Start identifying areas where you can expand, whether by attracting new types of customers, offering additional services, or developing new products. Create clear roles and responsibilities. Make sure everyone on your team knows exactly what they are responsible for. This helps avoid confusion and keeps the business running smoothly as you grow.Review your strategy. After developing a strategy, expect it to evolve. The initial roadmap will be wrong in many ways, but the important part is identifying gaps and continuously improving the strategy based on new insights.Bruce's best advice for entrepreneurs:"Most businesses think growth is about hustle, but if you don't have the right structure or leadership team in place, you're going to run into chaos. You need to build a foundation that can handle scaling without falling apart."Connect with Bruce Eckfeldt:LinkedInWebsiteXYouTubeInc.com columnPodcastFollow Beyond 8 Figures:LinkedInXWebsite

Do you know what you really want from your business? It's not enough to say “I want more money,” or “I want to scale.” What is your life going to look like when you get there? What role do you want to play? What do you want to do every day? CEOs can bottleneck a company faster than anyone else when they're not actually doing the right job. There's no one right answer but there is an answer for you. Knowing what that is will help you make strategic decisions about how, when, why or even whether to scale up your business. Strategic thinking and planning is something most small businesses don't do enough of, but getting that clarity can set you up for success. And really, you aren't going to get where you want to go if you don't know where you are going! Dream big! Then make strategic decisions and actions to turn it into a concrete reality. Like today's guest, badass business owner Bruce Eckfeldt. Bruce has settled into a life and a business where he gets to play, and pick and choose projects of all different kinds, which is my total dream scenario. After building, scaling and selling his own technology consulting firm in 2003, Bruce became a strategic coach and advisor to early-stage CEOs and their leadership teams. He hosts two podcasts, Scaling Up Services and Thinking Outside the Bud and writes weekly for Inc.com on leadership and strategic business growth. I always get inspired talking with him so I'm excited to share his wisdom and decades of experience. Tune into this episode to hear: Why scale isn't just about the number of people on your team and why a CEO needs to think like a coach Why figuring out your role in your business drives strategy decisions How to keep boredom out of the equation when focusing strategically for scale How to level up your client base by leveraging your knowledge of your current clients' needs Learn more about Bruce: Eckfeldt & Associates Inc.com Column Scaling Up Services Podcast Thinking Outside the Bud Podcast Instagram: @bruce_eckfeldt Connect with Bruce on LinkedIn Learn more about Pia: No BS Agency Owners Free Facebook Group The Show Your Business Who's Boss Crash Course Start reading the first chapter of my book Resources: Dream Team Predictive Index Workshop

How will cannabis companies adjust when federal regulations change? How will the cannabis market shift as legalization attracts "bigger fish?" How will the cannabis industry break down (or segment) after legalization? How will interstate commerce be regulated after legalization, and how can that potentially impact the industry? The trap many salespeople fall into is trying to grow by doing more of what's worked before, instead of letting an external force dictate their next phase of growth. Tapping into an area where demand is already flowing and lining it up with our skills can be an effective way to successfully break into a niche. Once we've identified this space, we can get more ROI by reaching our ideal clients through a psychographic profile, instead of a demographic or industry profile. By creating content that speaks deeply to who we can get results for, we can position ourselves to cut through the noise and attract the right people. How do we identify a space with a new demand that we can take advantage of? Where can we find ideas for the kind of content our ideal clients will respond to? In this episode, CEO, speaker, author, and business coach Bruce Eckfeldt shares the strategy he used to break into the cannabis space, and the downsides of going to the market with a broad message.

Our two coach panelists have both been on the show before. Bruce Eckfeldt is a consultant, Certified Gazelles coach, and speaker on organizational development and performance management. Anita Cabell is the Founder of Leading Edge and has been in the Chinese market for the last 18-plus years as a Scaling Up Coach. Today’s panel dives in on what they’ve been seeing when it comes to scaling forward during this pandemic. Bill has seen some surprising things happen this quarter, as some of his clients have been able to scale effectively to $1 million-plus in their revenue. Anita has been working globally for a number of years and her advice is to not be afraid of the virtual world. There is so much that can get done. Anita has a lot of Asian clients and since they were hit first, she was able to see what they did to pivot and bring that knowledge and advice back to her U.S. clients. Bruce has seen two things happening here when it comes to pivoting and scaling forward. The first is that his clients have been very quick to get a top-down approach and look to where their company can change and adapt within the market. Second, the mindset of the entrepreneur is very flexible. Those who have seen this level of crisis before are taking this as just another challenge to work through. As Bruce is currently working with a lot of CEOs in New York, he is noticing a lot of them are comparing these new events to 9/11. It’s bringing back memories of how to figure out things when everything was uncertain and up in the air. When this pandemic hit, Bill was concerned. He thought he might have to retire early because we were going through a recession. Not wanting to have idle hands, he provided coaching services for free or ‘pay what you can’ and because of this, his business is thriving and busier than ever, and revenues are up! In Today's episode, Mats is sitting down (via Skype) with Bruce Eckfeldt. Bruce always wanted to become an architect and received two architect degrees at McGill university in Montreal. During his education, he was one of the first classes who had computers on hand and he quickly found himself interested in computer modelling and animation. Not long after, Bruce got into the field of product design and how to develop strategies around products. He was an early adopter of Agile and founded a company in 2002 around lean Agile software development.Today, Bruce's focus is executive coaching and he works with CEOs and leadership teams. Bruce talks about how he is coaching the leadership teams and how hard it is to sometimes stay in the coaching role rather than being more directive. He also explains why a CEO would need a coach and we talk about the importance of middle management, in companies, the people who make it happen and often are stuck between a rock and a hard place. You will also find out what "Minnesota nice" means and what connecion it has to Sweden. Find out more at TCC Website : www.thecorporatecorner.netSupport the show

We don’t take enough time to stop and assess our progress. We are always reacting and not thinking! Do you find yourself making some of the same mistakes again and again? If so, it’s time to take a thoughtful retro perspective approach. Bill and his team do it at the end of every quarter and here are some exercises that show how you can do it, too. Bruce Eckfeldt is a consultant, Certified Gazelles coach, author, and speaker on organizational development and performance management. Bruce is on the show today to talk all about retro perspectives and how you can use exercises to get better at it. How did Bruce first get into retro perspectives? Bruce was first introduced to the concept when he was in software development. He’s been on projects where he spent weeks, months, and sometimes even years developing new products only to have them fall flat on their faces. How could he prevent this from happening? By taking a more lean approach to technology and by using retro perspective to strive for continuous improvement. Before we dive into examples of how retro perspective works, what does retro perspective mean, exactly? To put it simply, it’s the process of looking at the past to improve the future. The goal is to use the things we’ve done, the results we’ve already generated, as data. One of the best ways to cultivate a retro perspective environment is by creating a safe environment in the office to openly share mistakes without fear of pushback. From there, we need to collect the raw data, analyze it, drive down on what really happened, and then brainstorm for solutions. There’s so much pressure not to mess up that people often try their best to cover their ass, as opposed to openly letting management know there are problems within the organization. There’s so much spin in an organization that ‘it’s okay to mess up,’ but it doesn’t help solve the true problem. What are some of the best ways to create a safe space to openly share mistakes in the office? Bruce does two things. The first thing is called a prime directive, which sets the context of the meeting. This is said at the start of every meeting to help remind people it’s okay to share. This is the way the prime directive reads: Regardless of what we discover, we understand and truly believe that everyone did the best job they could, given what they knew at the time, their skills and abilities, the resources available, and the situation at hand. The second thing Bruce does is to makes sure the senior team is modeling this behavior, too. It can’t just be on the staff’s side to admit mistakes. It’s important that senior leaders call each other out on mistakes they’ve made and bring them to the table as an opportunity to learn how to improve. When the team begins to see the senior team doing this, it really sets the tone and drives the point further that it’s okay to admit your mistakes.
