This episode of Talking with the Toothcop is a two-parter! In the first half, you'll get a look behind the curtain and get to know me—Duane Tinker—and my co-host, Andrea Baysinger. In the second half of this episode, we share an important reminder about nitrous oxide compliance rules. Don't miss it! Outline of This Episode [3:01] How Andrea became my co-host [6:05] I'm an introvert—until I take the stage [8:09] Andrea is an introvert disguised as an extrovert [9:29] Country versus city living (who is who?) [12:22] Raising Australian Shepherds on a ranch [13:05] Dentists that administer nitrous oxide [14:31] How dentists get busted for lack of compliance I'm an introvert—until I take the stage I am an introvert. I'm like Sylvester Stallone (Hawk) in the Movie “Over the Top.” Hawk is a professional arm wrestler preparing for a national event in Las Vegas. At the end of the movie, Hawk is interviewed. He said that before he steps in the ring, he turns his hat backward and it's like he turns his face and becomes a different person. That's how I feel when I'm about to walk on a stage and speak. I'm a shy wallflower until I take the stage. Andrea is very talkative and is a self-proclaimed social butterfly. But she believes it's just a different version of her. She has a degree in English and loves writing and being introspective. So she's at her best when she's chosen to be alone. She feels at peace. She recharges, then gets back out with people. Country living versus city living My wife and I have a ranch and sometimes I'll go weeks without leaving it. We've got everything we need here (including fast internet). Andrea grew up in the country, too, in a small town of 1,500 people. She thought she was going to stay there for life but she followed her brother to Texas. She packed everything in her Maxima, got a part-time job within two weeks, and has been here for almost 8 years. She'd never in a million years thought she'd end up in a field close to healthcare and now she can't imagine anything else (including living in the country again). My wife and I have 6 Australian Shepherds, five of which are related. We have a lot of livestock (sheep, goats, ducks, and geese) because my wife does competition herding with her dogs. Supporting my wife in training the dogs is my extracurricular activity. Plus, there are always things to do around a ranch. Dentists that administer nitrous Switching gears, I've been getting a lot of calls and emails from dentists who are shocked about rules that have been in place for three years now. Many dentists are way out of compliance and don't know where to start. How are dentists getting busted for lack of compliance? The state only does inspections for those with level 2, 3, and 4 sedation permits. Those who are administering nitrous will never be inspected for that. But let's say a new patient comes to see you for a second opinion. You prepare a treatment plan, make your recommendations, and the patient decides to go with you for treatment. Six months down the road, you get a letter from the state board. They want to copy the patient's record and the dentist's emergency plan, and the dentist has no idea what they're talking about. Nine times out of ten, it's a complaint against another dentist. That's how dentists get busted for not having emergency plans. It's how the conversation starts with me. Dentists who administer nitrous: What you should be doing What do you need to do? You need to have a written emergency plan in place and train your staff on that plan. You need an AED, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, backup suction unit, and emergency oxygen unit. Most of the dentists that are calling me had no clue. Luckily, it's an easy fix. The takeaway? Be in the know. Get the newsletter from your state licensing board. Visit their website frequently for important information and updates. Get on our email list. We'll inform you of new rules and regulations. Something is always changing and impacting dental offices. Need help with compliance? Give me a shout! We have all experienced trauma in one way or another, and if we don’t deal with it, it can manifest later in our lives and cause immense difficulties. Facing it is not easy, but there are so many tools out there to help you work through whatever is causing you pain. After an overwhelming response to her previous appearance on the show, Andrea Crowder joins us again, this time with her husband, Jeremy, in tow, to get real about what it means to work through trauma. In this episode, we hear the details of their love story and how they got married despite Andrea being in a dark time of her life. Jeremy saw the sparkle in her eye and knew that this was someone who was going to thrive if she had someone to support her while she was figuring out her life. The couple then bravely opens up about Jeremy’s PTSD and how it affected their relationship, as well as each of them as individuals. Living in a constant state of fight or flight impacts your whole life, so Jeremy and Andrea had to work to learn a new language to connect and truly listen to one another. We hear about the modalities, ART, and RRT, that helped Jeremy work through his trauma and see how he was hurting others through his actions. Our conversation also touches on the importance of coaching and therapy, realizing you are enough as you are, and why you should not shy away from asking for help. Being married is not easy, but is one of the most rewarding relationships you can have. If you can hold space for one another and feel like you are seen and heard for all that you are, the possibilities, as they have been for Jeremy and Andrea, are truly endless. The inclination to say yes to everything is understandable, but it isn’t necessarily empowering or right for your business. If you’re an entrepreneur – or an aspiring one – “no” can be the most important word in your vocabulary. Today’s guest, Andrea Crowder is the perfect example of what Relentless Growth seeks to showcase. She embodies the message that you can grow in your life, in your business, and in your wealth, and you can do it all simultaneously and stay happy while you’re doing it! Listen in as Andrea shares actionable advice and pure spiritual wisdom. Learn how she fosters transformation – of the mind, body, spirit, and bank account – through digital courses, coaching, speaking, and physical products, and how she teaches women to master their own minds, bodies, and emotions so that they can create a life that feels good, on purpose. We need to lean into the fact that the world has changed, and that now — more than ever — give a platform and a voice to our ways of thinking, the gifts that we have, and the capacity for impact that sits inside of all of us. We need to share with individuals how we can help change their lives. I truly feel that this is the time for entrepreneurs and that the single most differentiating factor for those who are going to make it through the next 24 months (vs. those who will not) is simply going to come down to whether or not you are willing to make courageous choices every single day. We need to tap into this notion of courage that sits inside of all of us. What will you be doing to become a more courageous you? What is one step you will be taking to push yourself closer to making more courageous choices every single day? Join the conversation over on The Entrepology Collective and let us know!
In this episode I’m joined by the amazing Andrea McLean. If you’re in the UK, you’ll have seen Andrea on TV as part of the Loose Women panel! She’s done some incredible things and written 3 incredible books. No matter what our big goals are, whether that includes building a business at all, is the fact that we all just want to live our best lives and live happy lives. You can set goal after goal, but if you don’t actually know what makes you happy, those goals become hollow and will never make you feel fulfilled. In this chat, Andrea and I talk about: Why we all need to do what it takes to live happy, good lives and thrive rather than settling for just existing. So many of us are stuck in a place of just existing and letting our life make decisions for us. How we all have a pivot moment in our lives and how Andrea’s pivot moment involved jumping out of a helicopter and how that changed her life. How Andrea experienced trauma in her personal life and buried them. There was a trigger. Felt like there was a tiger in the room all day long and a constant anxiety. Became physically ill - like many successful entrepreneurs, just kept going until burn out couldn’t run away from it all. How she realised she no longer wanted some of the goals she had been chasing. How to align yourself with what brings you joy so that you can experience joy now rather than in the future.

“I was in a world I could never have imagined — and I completely broke.” Andrea Wagner had a meteoric rise to running success. She first leaned into running to cope with the stress of working at the Pentagon in the wake of the September 11 attacks in 2001. She ran her first marathon with a one-and-done mindset, finishing in 4:35 and insisting she would never do it again. (Famous last words!) More than a decade later, Andrea was a mom of two in a bad marriage, again turning to running to cope. She ran more marathons — but this time around, she was winning them. In 2014, she won the Rock N Roll New Orleans Marathon, and then went on to finish the Chicago Marathon in 2:41, earning herself an Olympic Trials qualifying time. She signed with Oiselle. She garnered the strength to leave her marriage after 10 years. And then, she lined up at the start of the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials. But after 14 miles, she stopped running. She was done. Done with that race, and done running competitively. On this episode, Andrea, who lives in San Antonio, TX, talks about life after elite running, about finding strength from within, and about discovering your self worth. What you’ll get on this episode: How Andrea got started on the run, and how the September 11, 2011, terrorist attacks played a role in her running story (5:00) What has kept Andrea running? (14:00) Andrea talks about the challenges she faced after becoming a mom (18:30) What did it take to go from a 4:35 marathon to a 2:41? Toward the end of today’s episode, our guest Andrea Fono describes herself as someone who offers “beauty and distraction from the normalcy of life,” along with “a little silliness and delirium.” That’s perhaps a good of a way as any to introduce her, as she's an internationally recognized full-time artist who works with various mediums. Today’s discussion between Andrea and Dr. Fred probes a number of different topics related to our humanity and connectedness, while also of course touching on the role of artistic expression. Listen in as Andrea and Dr. Fred discuss:Love as the only thing that truly mattersHow some early business “mistakes” led to Andrea “disqualifying” herself from life...and how she got back in the gameUsing disappointments, suffering, and failure as “fodder of fertilization”Why light and darkness are not mutually exclusive experiencesHow a “promise” of a brighter future can drive us forward through challenging circumstancesWhat can occur when we go beyond “supposed to”Life (and art) as “invitation”How Andrea uses nature’s gifts as inspiration for artistic projectsBe sure to keep listening after the interview, as today’s episode offers an addendum from Andrea with some additional thoughts of beauty and encouragement. How Andrea went from no background growing up in music to writing songs, recording an album, and going on tour. I'm your host and I consider myself a very creative person. I've always loved to sing and did choirs in high school along with church choirs. I did a few solos, but my confidence grew in college. Songwriting became something that I fell in love with in college after a few experiences that led up to it. After my freshman college roommate, Tracy was killed in a car accident, I became intent on carrying out her songwriting legacy. She inspired me with her love of guitar and songwriting, so I took a guitar class. That particular method of guitar playing didn't resonate well with me, so I put the guitar down for a couple of years. I picked it back up when I started a bluegrass band for a talent show and it was history from there. I bought my own guitar, wrote my first song, and now I've written over 100 songs. I went on a house concert tour with my 6 month old after producing a 7 song album. You'll hear a few of those songs on this episode. You can find my music by Googling Andrea Belita. You can find my album anywhere you listen on Spotify, Apple, Google, Amazon, YouTube, etc. Watch my two music videos I'm Yours and Going Dancing. I've also written a few kid's songs for The Leader in Me and Be Proactive has 145K views on YouTube with hundreds of kids across the country performing my songs for their schoolwide leadership programs.
Last week we talked about mediation with Susan Guthrie. This week, as we continue Legal Month on the pod, we’re exploring the concept of Collaborative Divorce with Andrea Vacca. Andrea Vacca is the owner of Vacca Family Law Group, a law firm in Manhattan that focuses exclusively on non-adversarial divorce and family law matters. Andrea describes Collaborative Divorce as a team approach to divorce. And it is a legal process. The process includes creating a roadmap for your divorce and specifically details the jobs for each member of the team, including: How you will be working together The need for transparency and honesty How the process will come to an end When you’re getting divorced, you’re looking to the adults in the room to help you through it. Many times, the adults are litigators who are committed to an adversarial process. When that’s the case, they may not be looking for what’s best for you or your family. And here’s the thing: just because your marriage is ending, your family can remain intact. It may look different, but it doesn’t have to be fraught with anxiety, or animosity. Collaborative Divorce offers a way to bring respect to the divorce process and work with professionals who model the behavior you wish to express. In the end, everyone’s going to be better off; you, your spouse, and most importantly, your children. Show Highlights Collaborative Divorce - what the hell is it? Andrea regularly lectures, writes and blogs on the topics of collaborative law, mediation, and topics related to non-adversarial family law. In addition to having a B.A. and J.D, Andrea also has a Certificate in Positive Psychology and regularly applies what she has learned to help her clients navigate their divorces, including having a growth mindset, being resilient and encouraging mindfulness. At Bass Coast, a beautiful boutique festival in the forests of British Columbia, everyone is a babe. What is a babe? A Bass Coast babe is a person of any gender who’s really feeling themselves. This party is so full of embodied bodies that it’s often affectionately referred to as “Babe Coast.” The festival is also famously run by women, Liz Thompson and today’s guest on the show, the beloved Andrea Graham, aka The Librarian. On the podcast, Andrea and I chat about the unique alchemy of safe, sexy, and silly that creates a liberated vibe. We get nuanced on feminine leadership, gender parity in festival lineups and the tedious questions posed to women who produce electronic music. Andrea also generously models a balanced life of adventure and does it with the coy humor that is iconic of both her and her festival. Also, at the end of the podcast we get a tasty bite of Andrea’s track Blue Tusk so stick around for the beats! Everyone can be a babe at Bass Coast and that’s an ethos we can all bring into our daily lives. "Podcasting is like YouTube without the video!" - a discovery by one of Andrea's (super smart) students... because after I asked a gazillion podcasters, no one came up with that perfect description. How can I effectively summarize the podcasting powerhouse that is Ms. Andrea Klunder? Andrea Klunder truly believes in empowerment and engagement through expression in media. Using podcasting as a tool to bring people together, she truly believes that podcasting can be an effective way to engage, educate, and communicate within our diverse communities. This includes special learners, who can use the power of podcasting to evolve as young minds with special needs using her podcasting project, "Power Your Story." Today, we speak about her unique podcasting story and how she uses the humble podcast to help students achieve greatness. Highlights: How Andrea turned her own passion for podcasting into a powerful communication tool for students with special needs in high school using her "Power Your Story" project. How Andrea successfully pitched podcasting as an educational tool for high school students. How Andrea was able to create a real world podcasting project for high school students on a budget. The technology that students used in order to record their podcasts. Were there any unexpected costs that Andrea did not budget for? How the storytelling and interviewing aspect of podcasting can engage and empower a special learner. What was Andrea's biggest challenge in engaging her special needs' students in the podcasting project. How podcasting can empower students to become experts in both planning and producing in a real world context. How Andrea turns podcasting into a community project for her students. How the editing process can help empower the podcaster-- with or without special needs. Why becoming a podcast mentor is so important. Wow! That's a lot of great podcast production information! Hold on tight while we build this great podcast community together! #PowerYourStoryPodcast #ThePodcastMentor #SpecialNeeds #StudentsAndTechnology #AfterSchoolMatters #TheFutureofPodcasting Feel free to use these hashtags to share your thoughts with me on socials. #podcasterssupportingpodcasters #justpodcasting One more notes about this series. I plan on experimenting with it while making it work FOR ME. From time to time, things may be different, go a bit wacky or even sideways, so your feedback will help me (and my lovely team) learn, grow and craft something that serves you, dear podcasters. The technical thing I learned from this episode: Double sided tape helps keep your boom arm in place when you have an odd shaped table edge. Cat in this episode: Fat Round... who has turned into somewhat of a mascot for the show. #podcats Personal Podcasting Pain Point: My son came home about 5 minutes early and about 5 minutes before the episode wrapped up. That might not be a big deal to a lot of you, but schedules are super important and transitions are super hard for him because austism. He's getting better at managing his reactions, so while it was a tad stressful for that last 5 minutes, it was also small WIN for him and for us parents who work so hard to help him through this stuff. Meet The Podcaster: Power Your Story Podcasting Andrea Klunder works with mission-driven individuals and organizations to help them use podcasting as a powerful tool for connection, trust, and social impact. She is the Producer & Host of Podcast Envy, all about the craft of podcasting beyond the microphone, and The Creative Impostor Podcast, a show all about how to take bold action in your life and work, despite the little voice in your head that says, “Who do you think you are? You can’t do THAT!” In 2017, she launched Power Your Story, a high school mentoring program and podcast produced by students with diverse learning challenges in Chicago. Andrea is the Producer & Editor of Key Change, a podcast by The Santa Fe Opera and Opera for All Voices, and believes in the power of podcasting to develop an intimate connection with your listeners, build loyal community, and immerse your followers in an authentic brand experience through engaging, entertaining, and educational audio media. All the non audio elements are in 1 place and I can easily track where in the process an episode is... from IDEA to RELEASED. So, THANK YOU HELLOCAST for knowing how I think and designing an app to organize me. :)

This week’s episode is SO MUCH FUN! We talked with four normal (amazing) moms who shared some of their funniest and most outlandish mom fails with us. This is an hour of stomach-clenching, tear-streaming, head-shaking laughter that you are sure to enjoy! We love mom fails because ALL MOMS have them but our society is so aimed at perfection that no moms WANT to admit and share them. Instead, they are hushed. And shamed. Instead of moms having a cathartic laugh at all the imperfections, they feel underqualified and overly flawed. We believe in being the best moms that we can be, but we also believe that there is a HUGE difference between a mom who is trying and a mom who is perfect. Perfection doesn’t actually exist (outside of social media)! Real life equals successes and failures with a goal to learn from the past and do better on the next go round...maybe….it might take a few go rounds. So let’s enjoy life’s imperfections and let’s have a good laugh at those times when we mean to soar but instead we trip on our own feet, hit the wall, and fall down the stairs into a laundry basket full of dirty socks! In addition to the great mom fails in this episode, listen in to also hear: Why no one wants Beth, Andrea and Camille to watch their kids anymore. Why you can say whatever you want if you preface it with “Bless your heart…” How Andrea got her boys to start BEGGING to mop the floor. Whaaaat???? Bios Natalie Haddock: Natalie is pretty much the greatest and she hates writing bios. Ok. Fine! I’m the mother of 4 boys. Miraculously they’ve only had 1 broken leg and 1 set of staples among them, so I guess that makes me a pretty good mom. I’ve been trying to lose the last 10 pounds for the last 6 years and still haven’t figured that out. Melissa Parr: I’m currently a stay at home mom with two adorable and sassy little girls. I, quite recently won a year-long potty training battle and am teaching my baby to crawl (which is harder than it sounds because her head is twice the size of her body). I love dancing, reading historical fiction, and eating chocolate chips dipped in peanut butter when there are no “official” snacks in the house...every single night. Biz Hancuff: I’m a wife and mother of three beautiful, smart, funny, amazing, sassy, smelly, stressful monstrous children...who I adore. Like most of you, I’ve had many different jobs, none of which even came close to preparing me for the job of mothering. It’s joyous and nightmarish in one breath. It’s beautiful and ugly simultaneously. And it is exhilarating and exhausting all at once. It’s an experience unlike anything else...one I would not trade for the world! Danna Parker: I’m a mother of three smart and fun boys. I love working out, especially zumba and power tone classes. I love the great outdoors and enjoy spending time with my family on hikes, paddleboarding and boating. Advice given: Just be you. Embrace who you are and just do mothering how you do it! If you are doing mothering authentically to who you are, you’re doing it right. - Biz Stop yelling at your kids...just whisper. It’s proven to be more effective at getting their attention. - Danna
What could you accomplish if you weren’t afraid? Have you ever held yourself back because you were worried what other people might think? Have you ever rejected an opportunity because you feared rejection or failure? We all experience fear, but what truly matters is how you direct that fear and ultimately overcome it. Often we see a successful person, but neglect to understand the shortcomings and insecurities they had to push through in order to thrive. We think that maybe one day we will reach this magical place where our fears dissipate, but that isn’t reality. Our power lies in our ability to break outside of our comfort zone and go after what we want, despite fear. Today’s episode features one of my favorite people, Andrea Navedo from Jane the Virgin. Andrea is a living testament of what it takes to overcome fear, find strength, and unleash your potential. Her story will inspire you to let go of your excuses, live with integrity, and pursue your dreams. In this episode you'll discover: Why it’s important to include our kids and younger family members in our health and wellness practices. How we can gain strength from the tough times we go through. The significance of being able to apologize to a child (even as an adult). Why it’s so important to have role models and people to hold you accountable. Why you need to face your fear or risk living with regret. Why paying attention to the way opportunities feel (light or heavy) can help guide you in the right direction. The huge role that media plays on society’s consciousness. Why it’s important to see positive portrayals of people who “look like you” in the media. The incredible story of how Andrea got her first big television acting role. How talking about your insecurities can help ensure they’re not controlling you. Why it’s important to stop making excuses and take responsibility for your life. How loving yourself can help you overcome your fears. How Jane the Virgin has helped to change the landscape of major media. How Andrea stays in great shape with her busy schedule as a wife, mom, and actress. Today’s guest knows a thing or two or 52 about how to live a kickass life. (She wrote a book called “52 Ways to Live a Kickass Life” so that one was way too easy.) But just like you are what you eat, Andrea Owen definitely is what she writes about, which is life kicker-asser and a not-feeling-like-shitter. (Her new book is called “How to Stop Feeling Like Shit.” Very literal titles. I’m into it.) Andrea is writer, mentor and life coach who helps high-achieving ladies let go of control and choose courage and confidence instead of letting their inner critics call the shots. She’s also a retired roller derby player who subtly hinted in this chat that she may come out of retirement. You heard it here first, folks! And if you don’t know much about what roller derby is, don’t worry, I ask. This is a great episode for those of us who spend way too much time comparing ourselves to others, as well as for those of us who love crying to Natalie Imbrulgia’s song TORN. Press play to hear: How Andrea found her calling on the internet. How to just be with your thoughts. What to do about social media + comparison + the fact that both make us feel like shit! Before she joined Radial, Andrea Dougherty didn’t even know fraud was a thing. Fast forward 7+ years and she’s now a sought-after security expert who’s protecting major brands and retailers around the world. Andrea has teamed with the FBI/police to bust cases wide open – like where a fraudster used a dead man’s credit card to buy a diamond ring (luckily the jeweler was Andrea’s client). I invited Andrea onto the show to discuss the following: · Playing by the rules: The best defense against fraud? A good rule. How Andrea uses her technical expertise to write hundreds of business rules to spot bogus transactions. When her rules flag suspect patterns, they’re sent to human analysts who can verify the legitimacy or contact the customer directly. · The changing face of fraud: Fraud is skyrocketing by 30% YoY. Andrea shares the latest tactics being used by the bad guys, and the cutting-edge methods the good guys are using to foil sinister plots. For example, social selling, which is gaining transaction among retailers due to consumer demand, can open the floodgates to fraud. · Advice to retailers and brands: It boils down to this – they can’t fight fraud alone. Today’s criminals are too smart; they’re only growing stronger and harder to stop. Retailers aren’t equipped to handle a fraud onslaught. If they don’t work with a security expert, they run a grave risk: canceling half their orders and sales volume, and losing millions of dollars in the process. Detecting fraud is a balancing act that radial do with a precise combination of machine learning, big data, and human intelligence to deliver the highest fraud approval rates in the industry. https://www.radial.com/
