Today we have a 2022 New Year's Episode with the Bourbon Taters Josh Judy and Tyler Aitken. The three of us met waiting in line for bourbon and became fast friends. We've known each other for about two years now, but it feels like we've known each other for more like a decade. I wanted to do a new years episode as an excuse to get together and drink with the boyos. I definitely needed some relative rehab after the holidays. Please enjoy our ramblings as we pour some bourbon. Josh grew up in West Virginia in a small town. He played college baseball at Indiana Tech from 2004 to 2007. He was drafted into the MLB by the Cleveland Indians in 2007 during the 34th round of the draft. The Indians sent him to play in the Gulf Coast League (aka Rookie Ball) for a few years to develop his skills enough to play professional baseball. Josh made his professional debut on May 25th, 2011 against the Cincinnati Reds. Josh has played baseball all over the world including the United States and Mexico. Josh is now retired from the game of baseball after 16 years as a professional in the MLB. Tyler grew up in Akron Ohio. Tyler enjoys cigars and bourbon. He recently got engaged to his lovely fiance Megan and they look to buy their first house in the near future. Tyler is very close with his family. In his opinion there is nothing more important than family. If you want to contact the show you can go to https://www.uncensoredhumanity.com/ and fill out the Contact Us form. Today we have back with us Mr. Josh Judy. Josh was a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians in the MLB. Josh and I met under interesting circumstances and have become fast friends. This is the second time I sat down with Josh to talk about his professional baseball career. The first episode (#79) we talked about him getting drafted after college and making his debut in the major league for the Cleveland Indians. In this episode we talked about his long and amazing career as a professional pitcher. Josh pitched all over the country and in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Josh has had many setbacks and triumphs in his crazy professional career. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through our conversation. In the 2017-2018 season of the Dominican Winter League Josh and his team the Aguilas Cibaeñas beat their arch rivals the Licey Tigres winning the Dominican Winter League Championship. After winning the championship the Aguilas Cibaeñas had the opportunity to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean World Series. Josh grew up in West Virginia in a small town. He played college baseball at Indiana Tech from 2004 to 2007. He was drafted into the MLB by the Cleveland Indians in 2007 during the 34th round of the draft. Multimedia creative Darren Hunt has just written, produced and directed his first film, a dramatic work called Paper Angel. Though Hunt's intentions were to work with seasoned filmmakers once the screenplay was completed to his liking, his ten year journey with the project would come to include doing all of the casting, production and sets for the movie himself. Besides the attention paid to all of the visual components of the story, he then went on to collaborate with local musicians and flesh out a riveting musical score of their gritty originals that they all felt would complement the "vibe of the film" he was building. It's local premiere is at Indiana Tech's Magee Theatre. For Darren's reflections on this grass roots cinematic adventure, WBOI's Julia Meek invited him into the studio to discuss its origin and evolution, the passion for the craft he developed along the way and why the "purely Fort Wayne" flavor of the piece resonates so deeply with his art centricity. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo'' by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistant is Olivia Fletter. Our production assistants are Monica Blankenship, Steve Mullaney, Kyle Norbeck, Diahmynd Thomas, Mikaela Veltum, and Sydney Wagner.

How did wrestling change your life? That’s exactly the question Ryan Warner wants to know and that’s exactly the theme of his podcast, Wrestling Changed My Life. Warner, an Illinois native, started up the podcast a couple years ago and has been prolific with his interviews and his conversational style of podcast. Digging into greats, documentary series on his own and with the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Wrestling Changed My Life has been a fan favorite and it’s only getting better. Check it out at wrestlinghcangedmylife.com. LEADING OFF There is wrestling. This is more than likely a test of how much of a wrestling fan you’re going to make yourself. There is limited action around the country, but the men and women in the NAIA are competing. The NAIA released its first Women’s Coaches Poll of the season on Monday and Wayland Baptist comes in No. 1, ahead of Campbellsville, Grand View, Menlo and Life. Wayland just recently lost its head coach as Aaron Meister left to go back to his native Kansas to start the men’s and women’s program at Friends University in Wichita. Speaking of Life, coach Ashley Sword’s team was in action over the weekend and topped Indiana Tech and the University of the Cumberlands. Indiana Tech was wrestling its first ever women’s dual matches in school history. Life won 39-5 while the University of the Cumberlands edged Indiana tech 25-23. Life beat Brewton-Parker 42-4 on Monday night as well. On the men’s side of things, third-ranked Reinhardt opened up 2-0 after a trip to Florida, beating Keiser 55-0 and fifth-ranked Southeastern 24-19. Southeastern beat Keiser 49-6. Coleman Bryant of Southeastern knocked off Cole Tenety 3-1 in sudden victory at 174 pounds in a matchup of returning All-Americans. Former Indiana Hooser Blake Rypel has resurfaced on the college mats, he’s at Southeastern. He won his debut by fall at 184 for the Fire. Reinhardt did pick up powerful bonus victories from returning All-Americans Trent Leon, Nolan Saxton and Antonio Stewart to power coach Jeff Bedard’s Eagles. In other action on Monday, Brewton-Parker College beat Central Baptist (Ark.) 53-3, while St. Andrews beat the Central Baptist 42-15. No official score from St. Andrews and Brewton-Parker, but I’m told it was 43-9 in favor of Brewton-Parker. Not the first time I’ve had to chase down the opposing team looking for a score from a wrestling event held at BPC, but I digress. Here’s what went down since the last time I gave a scoreboard update: Jamestown (N.D.) beat Northwestern (Iowa) 24-22. Arizona Christian beat Hastings 28-15 No. 7 Indiana Tech beat Thomas More 26-21 No. 4 Lindsey Wilson got a pair of big W’s, shutting out Missouri Baptist 55-0 and beating Williams Baptist 46-3. Williams Baptist beat Missouri Baptist 42-12 in the other dual there. Earlier in the week, Benedictine (Kan.) beat Central Methodist 27-18, while Ottawa (Kan.) beat Oklahoma Wesleyan 43-12. New coaching alert in Division II where Ohio State alum Colt Sponseller is now the new head coach at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. Josh Hutchens stepped down back in September. … while NCAA qualifier Michael Blockhus will land at Minnesota after announcing he was leaving Northern Iowa a few days ago.

Pat Christenson has spent the last 19 years as the President of Las Vegas Events, which has helped bring major sporting events and such to Las Vegas. He’s been a key person behind the bid process for the NCAA championships for Las Vegas in all sports. He was also instrumental in the 2008 Olympic Trials and 2015 World Championships coming to Las Vegas. As a wrestler, Christenson won the 1976 NCAA Division I championship at 167 pounds as an unseeded senior for the University of Wisconsin. He’s got long relationships in the sport and he’s using that to springboard a new podcast series supported by the the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and USA Wrestling called Etched in Stone, a podcast that’s aimed at telling compelling and interesting stories about the 179 Distinguished Members of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. That podcast launches on November 17. Christenson talks about the project and the idea behind it, who’s involved and why Mark Churella is the lead-off series in the first season. Listen to Etched in Stone on your favorite podcatcher starting November 17. LEADING OFF What you know already is USA Wrestling held the U23 and UWW Junior Nationals in Omaha this past weekend. All the results are on FloArena, all the recaps you can find on TheMat.com or via my daily wrestling newsletter at mattalkonline.com/news. Jordan Burroughs beat Zahid Valencia, highlighting a seven-bout card on Flowrestling on Saturday. Word already circulating that David Taylor and Mr. Burroughs will meet at some point in December. Again, those results on Flo. WHAT YOU DON’T KNOWCollege wrestling is actually going on some places around the country. Adrian College hosted an invitational over the weekend, which it won. It also hosted a women’s open. Host Adrian won the men’s invitational and had three champs, while Indiana Tech had three and Thomas More two. On the women’s side, Adrian and Indiana Tech had four champs each with UW-Stevens Point also picking up one gold. The Citadel became the first Division I school to take to the mats this season, beating St. Thomas of Florida 54-0 in their opener. The Bobcats are a first-year NAIA program in Miami Gardens, Florida. Other scores over the weekend saw Concordia (Neb.) beat Dakota Wesleyan 34-6 and Brewton-Parker edge first-year Montreat 25-21. Those both in the NAIA. For the college scores, I’d recommend you go to trackwrestling.com and click “Seasons” and click the appropriate year and division of your choice for quick access to the matches we do have this season. Stephanie Gottesman is joined by two women with direct experiences around transgender issues. Amanda Grimes shares her story of growing up transgender in Northeast Indiana and becoming an advocate for the transgender community. She created two support groups at 3Rivers Wellness and is working on forming a Fort Wayne LGBTQ Resource Center. Jenna Shock, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at Cameron Psychiatry, works with transgender clients and is the parent of a transgender teen. CW: This episode talks about some challenging topics, including transgender discrimination, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. We encourage you to listen with care. Women are women. We feel it in our heart and soul even if we were born into bodies that didn’t represent as female at birth. And that can feel like an impossible challenge to overcome for many who were misgendered. Society is beginning to catch up to the idea that we don’t all fit into neat little boxes of gender identity and there are growing resources for transgendered individuals, but there is still a long way to go. Understanding and appreciating the difficulties and joys someone goes through to fully become the person they are can best be found in the stories of people who have actually lived the experience. For this reason, we feel honored and grateful to share these stories in the hopes that we can all come to a place where we can respect and accept people as they are. Amanda Grimes is a public speaker, diversity educator, social justice advocate, and writer, and is finishing her bachelors degree in psychology from Indiana Tech. Her work addresses diversity and inclusion, LGBTQ issues, discrimination, minority stress, healthcare disparities, cultural humility, poverty, and privileged perspectives at schools, universities, businesses, healthcare systems, and organizations in Indiana and Kentucky. Designated male at birth, Amanda spent decades concealing her true gender identity. She lived an entire life – including career successes, marriage, kids, and many battles with suicidal ideation – before coming out and starting her transition in 2013. She has started support groups for both transgender individuals and their parents, and hopes to pursue her Ph.D., expanding the current body of knowledge and understanding regarding gender identity. Her current projects include founding the Northeast Indiana LGBTQ Resource Center in Fort Wayne and publishing her autobiography. The Resource center does not have an online presence at this time, but for anyone interested in volunteering and helping to move this project forward, you can email Amanda at neilgbtqresourcecenter@gmail.com. Amanda serves as the facilitator for two support groups available through 3Rivers Wellness. TRANSupport is available for 18+ members of the transgender, genderqueer, and gender nonconforming community in the Fort Wayne are. TRANSparent is a support group for parents of transgender, genderqueer, or gender nonconforming individuals. During the COVID-19 crisis, all meetings are being held on Zoom. We are happy to welcome back Jenna Schock, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at Cameron Psychiatry. You may remember Jenna from our most recent episode, where she shared her perspective on the mental health impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. In getting to know Jenna for the last episode, we learned that she works quite a bit with transgender clients. She’s here today to share a therapeutic perspective on the unique struggles faced by the transgender community. Jenna also has a close relationship that has aided in her awareness around LGBTQ issues; she has the heartfelt perspective of a parent discovering that her daughter is transgender. During the interview with Jenna, Stephanie mentioned an MRI study showing that the brain patterns of transgender individuals more closely match the brain patterns of their desired gender. The abstract for this study can be found here and an article done for Global News can be found here. Our musician this week comes from Fort Wayne’s LGBTQ community. Funayurei, the darkwave-inspired duo of Mandy Kawa and Rob Parker. Mandy is herself a lesbian, and was excited to be part of this episode. Funayurei makes 80's inspired music with their own twist. They started out as a one-song collaboration just for fun, and followed that up by recording, mixing, and releasing their first record, "Liminal," in 2019. This song, "What Happens Next," was the second song they created and is about being in a tumultuous relationship where communication, energy, and commitment are repeatedly not reciprocated. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. You can find them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at Funayureimusic. We encourage you to check out their music on iTunes, Spotify, and Bandcamp.Have you enjoyed our content? Would you like us to make more? We’ve just launched our Patreon, and would be super grateful if you hopped over to www.patreon.com/womenarefortwayne and showed us some love. Brett Rump and DC Hendrix talk Todd McShay's Mock Draft for the Indianapolis Colts. They also talk about the possibility of Bobby Knight going to Purdue-IU game. Indiana Tech men's basketball coach Ted Albert joins to talk about the hot streak his team has been on winning 12 of last 14 games.
It’s Friday the 13th. It was perhaps the only cool thing about growing up with the name Jason. The whole mythological thing with the Argonauts hadn’t quite resonated just yet - and since I didn’t go to school at the University of Providence or play in Toronto in the CFL, those references were lost on me - just like those two COULD be lost on you. This is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from in and around the world of wrestling, I’m Jason Bryant. Before we get to the college action, the Walsh Ironman, one of the best high school wrestling tournaments in the universe is rolling on in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. To keep with the theme, Wyoming Seminary coach Scott Green says Sem has 13 entered, 13 survived on the 13th. Somewhat witty. No truth to the rumor Coach Green was at Wing Warehouse with the seedy underbelly of the wrestling internet. Sometimes you get interrupted from recording a show by three people in said town of Cuyahoga Falls. Minnesota Beer of the Night: You probably won’t find it by the time you get here for the NCAA Division I Championships, but it’s Surly’s Black Horsemen, which is brewed in collaboration with those fun-loving metal heads at King Diamond. Yes, THAT King Diamond. It’s a Danish style black lager - a style I fell in love with when I was at the Junior World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia in 2018. This isn’t quite as awesome as what I had over there, but it’s delicious and perfect at five percent - remember, I’m on untappd at jasonbryant12. New Patron: Pat Fitzgerald. Yup. That one. Thanks Pat for your support over the years. Dual Meets: No. 6 NC State doubled up Appalachian State 24-12 with Nick Reenan making his return to the Wolfpack lineup at 197 pounds. Reenan beat Paul Carson 4-3, scoring a takedown in the third to pick up the W. Hayden Hidlay cruised to a 16-3 major decision over App State’s Matt Zovistoski at 157 pounds. D.J. Fehlman’s 9-3 win at 133 pounds in the dual’s final bout was enough to push Lock Haven past Navy 19-13 in the Rumble in the Jungle at Red Lion High School in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Shout out to Red Lion head coach, Mike “The Nite Fox” Catullo. In Division II, the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus beat NAIA West Virginia Tech 33-16 in Beckley - that’s in West Virginia. Top-ranked St. Cloud State moved within one win of tying the Division II dual meet win streak record - one that they hold - after beating Northern State 29-9. The Huskies have won 53 in a row. Northern State’s James Burks did beat St. Cloud State’s James Pleski 7-5 at 157, so that’s a notable one there. Augsburg, ranked fourth in Division III, topped Division II Southwest Minnesota State on Friday in Minneapolis. The Auggies won six of 10 and top-ranked Ryan Epps earned a fall at 4:51 at 165 pounds. You know those kids books, if you give a mouse a cookie or if you give a moose a muffin? Well, if you mention Augsburg, you’re going to have to mention Wartburg. Top-ranked Wartburg - that’s in the dual rankings - beat Cornell College 43-2. Also, UW-Eau Claire beat UW-Stevens Point 25-17. There was a slew of duals at the Pigeon Forge Duals in Tennessee, most of which were NAIA teams. No. 5 Campbellsville and No. 2 Reinhardt both went 4-0, while No. 10 Life went 3-0. Keiser, a first-year program in Florida, picked up two wins, but according to NAIA rules, only one of them was official - the 39-18 win over Bluefield. There was the win over NJCAA Southwest Virginia, but matches against two-year schools don’t count for NAIA schools. Buried the lede there - Keiser got its first win in school history! Concordia (Neb.) beat Midland 54-(-1) - yes, that’s negative. No report from the dual in Reno between Montana State-Northern and Eastern Oregon. Out west, Highline beat Big Bend 31-18. Notables on the Docket: There’s the UNI Open, LIU is at Drexel, Lock Haven is hosting some D3 schools while Chattanooga heads to No. 11 Iowa State. In Division II, there’s the monster tournament at Indianapolis, the Midwest Classic, while West Liberty faces Pitt-Johnstown. There’s like 40 duals in Division III, while Indiana Tech and Nebraska Wesleyan are hosting multi-team events. FROM THE DWN: Will Anthony Cassar break away from the U.S. and represent another nation in future Olympic Games? Well, if that isn’t a clickbait headline, I don’t know what is. Best part about that statement is its not a headline, but a throwaway line in a story from LovingMalta.com about the Penn State heavyweight. Apparently he’s of Maltese lineage - the country, not the breed of dog. The Mid-American Conference released its conference rankings, some of which seem to be devoid of results that happened within the past week. Trackwrestling’s Seven Minutes series with host Kyle Klingman talks with THE Ohio State University head coach Tom Ryan. Kyle also drops the third episode of How Wrestling Built Me with entrepreneur Joe Johnson of VADE Nutrition. TheMat.com previews the athletes you’ll be seeing in Fort Worth next weekend at the U.S. Senior Nationals. That’s the name of it this year, since it’s not the Open, but it is the Open, but - anyway - of note, Tyler Graff going Greco. Lots of stuff out there on the Ironman, so here’s a quick link to InterMat’s semifinal matchups and team scores, because, well, it’s free. The NWCA has announced the Jim Koch Division II Hall of Fame for 2020. Super talented field with representation from North Dakota State, Chadron State, Augustana (S.D.) and Northern Colorado. Little Rock drops a feature about its wrestling twins, Jaylen and Jayden Carson. Big UFC card this weekend as a couple of wrestlers meet up - Kamarudeen “Marty” Usman and Colby Covington. Marty isn’t a dig, that’s just how I knew him. Resident fighter derelict Jon “Bones” Jones doesn’t care much for Covington. Well, they both suck at life, so there’s that. Here’s what Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports said about it. Sure, they could beat the crap out of me, but yeah, take world capitals for $1,200 and see how they do there, Alex. On The Network The Trackwrestling offerings - Seven Minutes and How Wrestling Built Me - will be on the Mat Talk Podcast Network at some point over the weekend. They might already be there. Louisville, Kentucky – With nearly 320 wrestlers from 84 teams converging this weekend on the Kentucky Expo Center and Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky, the name Mat Mayhem remains an adequate descriptor of what’s to come on January 4-5 as NUWAY hosts the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals presented by the United States Marine Corps and Defense Soap. Five different collegiate wrestling divisions will come to Louisville for the first time in a dual meet advancement format to crown a national dual meet champion as the draws were also released on Wednesday. This year’s field features 65 ranked teams, with the three of the five divisions competing in 16-team brackets. Division III will stage a 24-team bracket, while the women’s teams, which compete in the Olympic freestyle style, compete in a 12-team bracket. Division II Top Bracket St. Cloud State is looking to win its third straight National Duals crown and a fifth overall. Currently riding a Division II-best 35-match win streak, the Huskies will be the top seed and open with Seton Hill in a rematch of last year’s final which St. Cloud State won 41-0. The Huskies (7-0) also bring a Division II-best eight nationally ranked wrestlers to Louisville, led by top-ranked 125-pounder and 2016 NCAA Division II champion Brett Velasquez and top-ranked 197-pounder Vince Dietz, a Division II runner-up a year ago. The winner of the dual will face the winner of the Upper Iowa-West Liberty dual in the quarterfinals. Upper Iowa, seeded eighth, has four nationally ranked wrestlers to contend with, led by Justin Foley at 133 and Dalton Hahn at 184 pounds. The pair comes in ranked seventh. There’s one matchup between ranked foes that could take place and that’s at 197 pounds where West Liberty’s Logan Kemp is ranked seventh and Upper Iowa returning All-American Nick Baumler is ranked No. 12. Despite its amazing wrestling tradition, the Mountain Cats of Pitt-Johnstown have never finished higher than third at the National Duals. That third-place finish came back in 2016 and longtime coach Pat Pecora’s squad will come to Louisville with five ranked wrestlers, including top-ranked returning Division II national champion Chris Eddins at 149 pounds. The Mountain Cats open with Fort Hays State, which has placed in the top eight just once in school history. Coach Chas Thompson’s team finished fifth back in 2014. The key matchup is a possible national final at 133 pounds as 2017 All-American Brandon Ball is ranked second for Fort Hays State, while UPJ counters with third-ranked Joey Alessandro. The winner of this dual will advance to the quarterfinals to face either Indianapolis or No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney. While Nebraska-Kearney is ranked No. 1 in Division II, that ranking is based on a tournament point projection by how teams’ individual wrestlers are slotted in the rankings. The Division II Coaches Association seeded the National Duals based on dual strength as each region had a representative submit their votes for the top eight seeds. The Lopers will face a UIndy team that could make things interesting as the Greyhounds have three ranked wrestlers in the mix. The Lopers boast a pair of top-ranked wrestlers – Matt Malcolm at 157 and Calvin Ochs at 165. The top matchup comes at heavyweight as UIndy’s Dylan Faulkenberg comes in ranked third, ahead of returning All-American and fifth-ranked Jarrod Hinrichs. Bottom Bracket Third-seeded Notre Dame College is loaded again as the Falcons have five ranked wrestlers and return All-Americans Kelan McKenna (133), Tony Vezzetti (184) and Kameron Teacher (285). They’ll face UW-Parkside, which returns All-Americans Airk Furseth (133) and James Lehman, who was an All-American at 197 last season, but has competed at 184 this year. The winner will advance to face either No. 6 Lindenwood or Wheeling Jesuit. While Seton Hill was the unseeded team making a run to the finals last year, the year prior, it was Wheeling Jesuit that crashed the party. The Cardinals again find themselves unseeded, opening up with No. 6 Lindenwood. With 11 wrestlers ranked between the two teams and three matches head-to-head involving ranked wrestlers, the key for advancing in this tight dual will be bonus points. Third-ranked Carlos Jacquez of Lindenwood has been on fire recently, winning the Midwest Classic. He’ll face fifth-ranked Cole Laya. Danny Swan was a solid fifth at the Midwest Classic and he’ll match-up with returning All-American Tyler Warner of Wheeling Jesuit at 133. The dual could come down to a pair of ranked heavyweights as Wheeling Jesuit has a strong presence with returning national champion Terrance Fanning. Lindenwood can counter with 11th-ranked Courvosier Morrow. The rest of that quarter bracket involves seventh-seeded Central Oklahoma squaring off with Gannon and second-seeded McKendree drawing Limestone to open the round. UCO has placed in the top eight 15 times and was a 2002 winner of the event. The Bronchos (yes, with an h) have three ranked individuals, while Gannon’s top individual is fifth-ranked George McGuire at 157 pounds. McKendree is a solid No. 2 seed and the Bearcats are looking to set a new program record for highest men’s finish. The team finished fifth in 2017, while the school’s women’s program has two National Duals runner-up finishes to its credit. McKendree has been bolstered by the availability of Michael Pixley, a past NAIA national champion who transferred from Grand View and had previously been an NAIA finalist at Lindsey Wilson. With no ranked wrestlers, Limestone will have a monumental task ahead of itself should the Saints want to be this season’s Cinderella. Elmo from Vision Quest once said, it ain't the six minutes, it's what happens in that six minutes. So with that in mind, here comes the most cram-packed six minutes of wrestling news, although, I typically don't care about how long or short this show is, this is Short Time Shots, a look back at the day's wrestling scores and more. I'm your host, Jason Bryant and I was too young to be an extra in Vision Quest. So the Vision Quest theme has been a constant this week. On Day 302 and 303 of #WrestlingShirtADay, I rocked shirts from RedBubble.com with Thompson High and Hoover High wrestling teams. Louden Swain, as many of you know, represented Thompson, while Brian Shute was a Hoover guy. Of note, his name was Gary Shute in the book. I still recommend reading the book if you get a chance. It won't ruin it for you, but you wrestling people out there might actually relate to it more so than the Hollywood depiction where sometimes fictionalization is more engaging to a viewer. What isn't fiction is the bit of wrestling history that unfolded on Thursday night in the Southern Conference. Davidson has been one of Division I's doormats pretty much forever. It's rare the Wildcats even win a conference dual, and most of the time when they did, it was against VMI or Campbell. But with Campbell improving, that's likely a thing of the past. One thing the Wildcats program had NEVER done -- beat The Citadel -- that is, until Thursday night when Davidson ended a 54-match winless streak against the Bulldogs in a 25-15 win, the first SoCon win of the season for Andy Lausier's squad. Davidson's wrestling program started in 1920 and the earliest results we can find were from the 1962 season. I'm not saying this to kick The Citadel when they're down, it has been a rough year in Charleston, but Davidson doesn't win duals like this -- until now. Wins at 125 and 141 helped Davidson pull away late with Michael McClelland's first career victory, a tech fall at 125, and Dustin Runzo picking up the W at 141 to close things out. McClelland was 0-16 on the season coming into the dual. Also down tobacco road, Duke used technical falls in the last two matches of the dual to get past Appalachian State 25-17. Technical falls by Mitch Finesilver and 157 and Zach Finesilver at 165 gave the Blue Devils the win. Harvard beat Brown 21-12 in what was dubbed the downtown showdown in downtown Providence. The other half of that showdown saw Division III's fourth-ranked team, Johnson & Wales, beat in-state rival Roger Williams 28-12. Lonnie Morris and the crew with great promotion there. Keeping it in Division III for a bit, No. 18 Centenary beat Delaware Valley 33-14 and Centenary head coach John Garriques earned his 100th career victory as the Cyclones head coach. He's done a fine job there in Hackettstown, New Jersey. In a battle of two of our nation's smaller service academies, a win by Victor Raigoza at heavyweight was enough to give the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy a 19-16 upset victory over No. 22 Coast Guard on Thursday. The Mariners, YES, MARINERS, trailed 16-10 before Raigoza's winning decision was set up by Blake Bunce's fall at 197 pounds. Late heroics were also needed as No. 24 Central College survived a scare in the Iowa Conference from Simpson. The Dutch, yes, Dutch, trust me on this one, got the match-winner from top-ranked 125-pounder C.J. Pestano. The All-American earned a technical fall in the dual's final bout to close things out. Another notable from Division III was No. 12 North Central won the CCIW - that's the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin - championship on Thursday, outdistancing second-place Millikin 125.5-114.5. The Cardinals won two individual titles and had four runners-up. Heading back over to Division II, No. 1 St. Cloud State remained unbeaten, improving to 18-0 and winning the program's 27th straight dual. The Huskies wrap up their Northern Sun schedule on February 15 against Augustana -- the one in South Dakota. And file this under things that can only happen in college sports - Indiana Tech beat Lourdes University of Ohio 30-15 in the NAIA. This was a conference dual. Not super strange since the schools are two hours apart. The thing is, they're both affiliate members of the SOONER Athletic Conference. Like Oklahoma. To get from Lourdes to conference foe Wayland Baptist down in Plainview, Texas? Nearly 1,300 miles. I should be used to it with my alma mater in the same conference as UTEP, which is 2,000 miles away from Norfolk. You'll need a couple hundred episodes of Short Time Shots to make that drive. Busy day in the small colleges on the dual meet side of things, I’m in New York, so after checking out the Kentucky-Monmouth game, I saw some boxing, the Rangers and the Devils and a bunch of drunken Santas stumbling through Manhattan. Seriously. I saw college hoops, the NHL and pro boxing all in the same day in the same venue. The Ukrainian boxer made the Cuban quit. Craziness. Before I start, Brian Williams, and probably not the former newsman, corrected me on my Gannon reference the other day. I mistakenly said Gannon was from Metroid, well, that’s all jacked up. My childhood memories are crap. Gannon was from Zelda. And since I never played Zelda and was confusing it from the Nintendo commercial so many years ago, I call shenanigans. Anyway, the evil boss in Metroid was Mother Brain. Coach Paul Keysaw and Fresno City College won the school’s 15th state championship as the Rams claimed four titles to outdistance second-place Mt. San Antonio 184-152. Brandon Betencourt, Isaiah Perez, Aaron Mora and Dylan Martinez won titles at 125 through 149 while five other Rams placed in the top eight to claim Fresno City’s second straight championship. Lock Haven won the PSAC Championships for the 20th time, but it was the first time in 17 years since they’d done it. The Bald Eagles were led by champions Ronnie Perry at 149, Chance Marsteller at 165, Corey Hazel at 184 and Thomas Haines at heavyweight. Lock Haven scored 156 points, followed by Clarion in second with 122 and Edinboro in third with 120.5. Pitt-Johnstown was fourth, the top non-Division I finish of the 12-team field. Only thing really notable out of the UNI Open was Iowa’s Spencer Lee entered and dominated. Results on Trackwrestling.com, video on Flo. Campbellsville won its third straight NAIA Women’s Invitational and crowned six champions. While not entirely comprised of every NAIA school with a women’s team, it’s a fledgling event that could be the precursor to an officially sponsored NAIA national championship event. No. 19 Wisconsin cruised past Division III UW-Whitewater 38-3. Nothing really to go into, it’s what big brother does to little brother. Wyoming reeled off four wins in the last five weights to get past Iowa State 24-14 to open up Big 12 action. Wins by Branson Ashworth, Kyle Pope, Chaz Polson and Cody Vigoren gave Wyoming the leg up, if that is such a rodeo reference. If not, my apologies to fellow announcer and rodeo legend Boyd Polhamus. Of note, Iowa State’s Jakob Allison, a guy the Cyclones pulled off the club team in Ames, earned a fall at 125 pounds. Pretty cool story there. In Division II, No. 23 Mary and coach Adam Aho picked up one of the program’s biggest wins since it moved to NCAA Division II with a 21-19 win over ninth-ranked Upper Iowa. Wins down the stretch by Phillip Springsteen and Austin Eichmann were clutch for the Marauders. Springsteen’s fall at 165 was crucial. Eichmann’s major at 174 put the dual out of reach. In Division III, fourth-ranked Johnson & Wales carved up the competition and cooked up three wins -- beating Niagara 46-4, Oneonta State 48-3 and Cortland State 45-12. Lonnie Morris is probably hanging red stockings for Christmas. Some of you might get that. WPI went 3-0 defeating Niagara Community College and a pair of Red Dragons. The Engineers beat Niagara 40-8 before beating No. 16 Cortland State 36-6 and Oneonta State 27-19. Both Cortland and Oneonta are named the Red Dragons. Seriously. Shout out to you Jason Ellis -- if you know who that is, more power to you. No. 9 Baldwin Wallace went 3-0 on the road at Waynesburg. Jamie Gibbs’ Yellowjackets topped Penn State Behrend 45-3, the Newport News Apprentice School 39-7 and No. 24 Waynesburg 23-10. Buena Vista beat St. Olaf 41-9. Marian, a second-year program, picked up its most successful day of its young history by going 4-0 at the Indiana Tech Warrior Duals, including a 26-19 win over third-ranked Indiana Tech. Fire it up coach Steven Bradley Snow caused problems across the southeast as the Williams Baptist Duals were canceled in Arkansas, as was the Brewton-Parker tri meet in Georgia. Finally, wrestling has COME BACK TO FRESNO. With apologies to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, that’s the top story for Friday, November 17. This is SHORT TIME SHOTS, I’m Hall of Fame announcer, broadcaster and writer Jason Bryant What isn’t a top story -- I actually owned the original version of NBA Jam with Charles Barkley on the Phoenix Suns instead of THUNDER Dan Majerle. But he coaches Grand Canyon and they cut wrestling, so screw them. While the score wasn’t super important, the fact we had wrestling at the SaveMart Center in Fresno, California for the first time in almost 11 years, that’s the deal. Sure, 14th-ranked Illinois piled up bonus points and Isaiah Martinez won his 100th collegiate match, but we saw a school President, Joseph Castro, man up and say “This area cares about wrestling and we’re bringing back our team.” Donkey like former AD Thomas Boeh might have put the team on ice for a while, but coach Troy Steiner and his crew are going to build a winner in the Central Valley That didn’t happen on Friday though. Two big wins were registered by the Bulldogs, whom I represented today with #WrestlingShirtADay. Kristian Olivas topped Eric Barone at 149 and Greg Gaxiola knocked off Kyle Langenderfer. I just want to play some Nerfherder after saying Langenderfer. Santa has a Mullet -- look it up, it’s a song by Nerfherder. Oh, I-Mar improved to 100-2 all-time. He’s good. Top-ranked Penn State is probably the best road draw attendance-wise in the country. The Nittany Lions saw over 3,000 witness their 40-2 blitzkrieg of Binghamton on Friday night. Seven of the Penn State wins came via bonus points with Jason Nolf and Zain Retherford each earning falls, while Bo Nickel fell to third in the Penn State individual Hodge standings merely capturing a major decision. The one Penn State loss? You guessed it, 125. No. 6 Minnesota headed west to Brookings and beat No. 16 South Dakota State in front 3,063 fans at Frost Arena. The highlight there was at 133 pounds where No. 1 Seth Gross topped No. 6 Mitch McKee 9-4. South Dakota State did score a modest upset at 157 pounds where Luke Zilverberg beat 10th-ranked Jake Short 5-2. No. 8 Iowa swept the Iowa City Duals. In other news, water is wet. Zack Zavatsky needed overtime to get past Bryce Carr at 184 pounds in the top bout of the night as No. 9 Virginia Tech beat host Chattanooga 28-7. Little homer note, B.C. LaPrade picked up his first career dual meet victory. He’s from New Kent, which is right up the road from where I grew up and he’s named after a headache power for a reason. Ryan Solomon’s major decision at heavyweight rallied No. 25 Pittsburgh past CSU Bakersfieid. Things weren’t so hot for the Panthers otherwise, as No. 18 Wisconsin declawed Pitt 26-6. Yes, cliché puns! Elsewhere, Virginia topped Gardner-Webb 30-11. The Wahoos picked up falls from Louie Hayes at 125 and Andrew Atkinson at 165. In Division II, No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown topped PSAC rival Kutztown 24-10. In the NAIA, fifth-ranked Providence welcomed a new member to the family as head coach Caleb Schaeffer and his wife Annie welcomed Kamden Kendrick to the world. He’s already able to take dad down. Sixth-ranked University of the Cumberlands -- they’re coached by Chris Fleeger -- the Patriots beat Indiana Tech 31-13.
