In this programme Rumella Dasgupta asks what dishes you should be able to cook when you leave home for the first time. Rumella meets chef and food writer Claire Thomson and her daughter Grace Williamson in their kitchen in Bristol, England. Claire's latest cookbook, 'Dear Grace: Recipes from Your Mother for the Next Chapter in Life', was written when Grace left home for university a year ago. At Salford Youth Zone, a youth centre in the North of England, Rumella talks to teenagers about how confident they feel in the kitchen. Shahpar Salim in Bangladesh talks about the challenges of leaving home for a new country when she came to the UK for her studies. Food writer and editor Yeonjoo Jung explains why young people often live at home throughout their twenties in South Korea. And mothers in the United States tell us how mealtimes changed once faced with the so-called 'empty nest'. Today's crypto market is quiet, but it is not calm in a healthy way. Bitcoin is sitting around $64K ahead of the July CPI report, with perpetual trading activity at its lowest level since 2023 and volatility still compressed. The market is waiting for a macro catalyst, but underneath the surface, traders are cautious, altcoins are fragile, and sell pressure from public miners remains a real issue.The biggest security story is Harmony. The project confirmed an exploit where an attacker minted roughly 4 billion ONE tokens, equal to more than a quarter of the supply. ONE fell around 40%, exchanges were asked to freeze funds, and Harmony is now looking at emergency fixes and possible rollback options. That is not just a hack. That is a monetary-integrity failure.On the institutional side, Fidelity is moving to add staking and quarterly cash payouts to its nearly $900 million Ether ETF. That is a major step toward yield-bearing Ethereum ETFs. At the same time, public Bitcoin miners have sold about 28,000 BTC this year, worth roughly $1.78 billion, adding another layer of selling pressure to the market.Regulation is also busy. Russia wants retail crypto trading limited to Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT. The Bank of England is testing how stablecoins and a potential digital pound could work together in trade finance. The CFTC is fighting New York to keep Kalshi operating, while FlightAware dropped its separate lawsuit against Kalshi after just one day.The core theme today: Bitcoin is stuck in hibernation, but the rest of crypto is not quiet. What does it take to make it to the very top when the odds are stacked against you? On the international stage, she earned more than 50 England caps, represented Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics, and competed at two UEFA Women's European Championships and the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. After meeting bassist Chris Squire in the late 1960s, he joined a rock group called Mabel Greer’s Toy Shop—and the two left to form a band that was later renamed Yes. Now 72, he’s sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Timothy Reed Canada euthanized Christian grandmother against her will The nation of Canada continues down the dark path of euthanasia. This time, comes this shocking story, where the state euthanized Brigitte Stegemann, an 83-year-old Christian grandmother, against her will and the will of her family. On the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition blog, her granddaughter said,  “One of our greatest ethical concerns is that GG had explicitly declined [Medical Assistance in Dying], stating it violated her Christian faith. Once a vulnerable patient explicitly declines this path, the facility should never have targeted her for re-evaluation behind closed doors while her primary advocate was away.” More than 5% of all deaths in Canada are attributed to Medical Assistance in Dying. It is the fifth leading cause of death there. Psalm 94:4 and 6 cries out: “How long shall they utter and speak hard things and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? … They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.” Severe drought in Europe and blazing hot July in America God has brought a severe drought on Europe. Since 1836, the month of July was the driest for England and Wales in recorded history, reports Reuters. Similarly, the United States experienced the hottest July since 1895.  Also, March 2026 was the hottest March ever — 9.4° above the 20th-century average. Ukraine drone attack killed 13 Russians, injured 75 Ukraine's drone attack on Russia's oil hub killed 13 citizens and wounded another 75 over the weekend, reports PBS.  Russia says they shut down 450 drones. In addition, Russia killed 21 people in Kyiv in this ongoing drone-based tit-for-tat warfare. The changing military alliances overseas Internationally, nations are lining up in allied positions. Just last week, Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia signed a pact, in which all three nations agreed that an attack on any of the three nations would be taken as an attack on all. Pakistan's relationship with China has also warmed up considerably.   China supplies Pakistan's military weaponry and Pakistan strongly supports Beijing on Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. If we include China's growing relationship with Russia, this axis of powers now holds 6,100 nuclear warheads in total, almost exactly the same number held by the allied powers of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, India, and Israel.  Keep in mind: God is over all the armies of the Earth. Isaiah 13:4–5 states that “The LORD of hosts musters the army for battle. They come from a far country, from the end of Heaven, the LORD and His weapons of indignation, to destroy the whole land.” Columbia hit by major earthquake Another devastating earthquake hit Colombia yesterday morning, killing 111 people, reports the Associated Press. It was 7.4 on the Richter scale. This follows another 7.5 earthquake in Venezuela a few weeks ago, that killed 5,000 people. Colombia produces 80% of the world's cocaine.  However, Friday marked the first day in office for Colombia's new president —  Abelardo de la Espriella. He is an admirer of President Donald Trump and had promised an "all-out war" on the drug cartels. South America has swung to the right over the last few years. Now eight countries are led by presidents who would align more with President Donald Trump. Only three South American nations are led by presidents that bend towards the left including Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela. Two-thirds of Americans support the death penalty Pew Research has found that Americans favor the use of the death penalty for murder convictions, in line with Genesis 9:6.   A full two-thirds of Americans say they favor the death penalty, and only 32% oppose it.  The numbers have remained about the same for the last seven years. Yet, in the first half of 2026, capital juries chose not to execute the murderer at least 19 times, more often than to execute. Murders in America average 15,000 per year, yet on average, only 23 murderers are put to death.  That's one-tenth of one percent!  And this year, only 19 murderers have received the death penalty.  Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in His own image.” Network for Hope shut down for its immoral organ donor system The Department of Health and Human Services has decertified Network for Hope, an organ transplant organization that was exposed for unsafe and immoral practices. Heidi Klessig of Life Site News explained, “Removing Network for Hope's certification was absolutely necessary, but will not address the most pressing problem underlying our current organ donation system: organ donors must be biologically alive in order to donate viable organs.” Attorney General Todd Blanche eager to end mail-order abortions And finally, newly appointed Attorney General Todd Blanche has pledged to work towards solidifying pro-life gains across the country, as well as to end mail-order abortions. Not surprisingly, all Democrats voted against Blanche's nomination.   According to Americans United for Life, “Through his statements and actions as Acting Attorney General, Mr. Blanche has shown himself to be a sincere advocate for human life and a faithful servant of President Trump's pro-life agenda.”  And Blanche himself has stated, “If states have said, ‘We are going to protect the unborn and we're going to protect every life from the moment of conception,' we're putting practices and policies in place so that other states and other organizations can't attack that. A hospital in a rural area of England has suspended its maternity services from today because of unsafe levels of staffing. Instead of going to the North Devon District hospital in Barnstaple, women in labour will have to travel more than 50 miles to Exeter. More than 15,000 people have signed a petition against the plans that was initiated by the Liberal Democrat MP for North Devon, Ian Roome. He joins presenter Nuala McGovern along with Jemima Knight who is currently pregnant with her third baby and lives in the area.Imprisonment for Public Protection sentences – or IPPs - were brought in by the Labour government in 2005, resulting in many prisoners not being given a fixed release date. One woman given a two year sentence spent sixteen years behind bars, with no idea of when she would eventually be released. They were abolished in 2012, but figures show more than 2,000 people are still impacted. A total solar eclipse is coming up on Wednesday. The Moon will cover the Sun, turning day to night across a narrow slice of the globe. Parts of Alaska and the northeastern United States will see a partial eclipse. The timing of the eclipse is known down to the second, and has been for decades; astronomers can predict eclipses far into the future. But making such predictions isn’t easy. It requires a detailed knowledge of the Moon’s orbit around Earth, Earth’s orbit around the Sun, and even the shapes of Earth and the Moon. Just when the first prediction was made is unclear. There’s no doubt that people have been predicting lunar eclipses for thousands of years. But they’re easier to forecast. Earth’s shadow is roughly 35 times wider than the Moon’s, so you don’t need to be quite as precise to get it right. There are stories that the Chinese were predicting solar eclipses more than 4,000 years ago, but no confirmation. An eclipse in 585 BC that stopped a war supposedly was predicted by a Greek scientist. But many present-day scientists doubt that. The first confirmed prediction was made by Edmond Halley, using the laws of gravity recently devised by Isaac Newton. Halley forecast that an eclipse would cross England on May 3rd, 1715. And he was right. So the event is known as Halley’s Eclipse – honoring the prediction of an astronomical spectacle. Script by Damond Benningfield

Between the village of Anwick and the town of Sleaford in Lincolnshire, England, lies a farmhouse.It is at this farmhouse that our journey begins.Robert is a stockman on a farm. Daphne is his wife. Their little boy, Bernie, is born in that little farmhouse by lantern light because the house is much older than electricity.When Bernie is five years old, his father is promoted to farm manager, and they are moved into a house with electric lights.Bernie thinks, “Now we are living the good life.”He leaves school at 15, but his mother has given him a love for literature and her father “Poppy” has injected him with a love for nature and narrative poetry.Bernie sends a few of his poems to a music publisher in London who is looking for song lyrics.That same publisher is talking to a young man named Reggie who is looking for a way to leave “Bluesology,” a mediocre local band that plays songs while the patrons of local restaurants eat fish and chips. Reggie says to the publisher, “I'm very good with music, but I can't write lyrics. I'm hopeless.”The publisher responds by handing Reggie an unopened envelope that he snatches from the top of the pile on his desk. He says to Reggie, “See what you can do with that and get back to me.”Neither Bernie nor Reggie are accepted by the music publisher, but they are accepted by each other. Bernie mails poems to Reggie in London, and Reggie writes the music that turns Bernie's poems into songs.You have heard many of these songs, I'm sure.According to Jordan Runtagh,“‘Rocket Man,' ‘Honky Cat,' ‘Crocodile Rock' and ‘Daniel' all immediately shot into the Top 10 in rapid succession. By 1975, they were responsible for 2 percent of all records sold on the entire planet. That same year they released Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, which became the first LP in history to debut at the top of the Billboard chart.”Reggie is Captain Fantastic and his farmboy friend Bernie is the Brown Dirt Cowboy.Reggie knows, of course, that he is unlikely to become famous as Reggie Dwight, so he creates a new name from the names of his former bandmates, Elton Dean and John Baldry.As “Elton John,” Reggie writes the tunes that make Bernie's poems famous around the world. He wrote a tune and sang what Bernie had written.In the days when an album that sold a million copies was a “Gold Record,” Reggie and Bernie's album, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” sold 30 million copies.A few years ago, Bernie Taupin spoke of the “inseverable bond” of brotherhood that he and Elton have shared for 60 years.“In the insanity of our lives, there's nothing better than the times when we get to sit down, just together. Like those moments in the dressing room, about a half an hour before he goes on, when I'll go in and see him and there's nobody else in there, and it's just he and I. The calm before the storm. It all comes back. When we're just alone with each other, it seems like a frozen capsule of time that everything we've ever done together inhabits. From Ancient Mesopotamian "birth bricks" and fires lit to smoke babies out of the womb to 20th century beliefs in hairy babies prompting their mothers to experience heartburn, human societies have cleaved to a whole load of fairly wild concepts related to reproduction.Yet, as we explore in this conversation, it's surprising how universal many motifs to do with birth and pregnancy are, from forms of sympathetic magic like the danger of mothers tying knots, weaving, or even crossing their legs for fear they will risk the lives of their unborn children to ideas of phases of the moon influencing whether births will be easy or whether children grow up to be harmonious darlings or challenging little devils. Working roughly chronologically, we open up a whole range of discussions, including of how prehistoric peoples treated the remains of children who died before joining society to particular demons and supernatural forces believed dangerous to pregnant women and methods for defending against them. From the changing roles of fathers in relation to birth superstitions and lots of highly spurious methods for determining a child's gender while in utero to enduring customs like the baking of Groaning Cakes and the passing of mothers or babies through hollow spaces in rocks or wheels of cheese, we've done our best to account for how everyday people viewed and navigated conception, pregnancy, and birth itself across millennia. At first, he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that all this is innocent, but he cannot keep that thought in his head for long for the lie she told. He passionately loves her in spite of her faults, but he deems her attached to another man. The very falsehood that stains her is the proof of her love for another. He can focus only on that. He would have done anything for her to look at him like she looked at that other man. He paces up and down the room while thinking about all this. After a long while, his mother asks him to stop. She says that with the death of Leonards, his lover, and their servant, wishes to leave their employment. She goes on to say that Betsy, the servant, told her that Miss Hale was seen on the platform the night when Leonards died. Mr. Thornton says that the scuffle had nothing to do with Miss Hale's presence on the platform after his conversation with the doctors. Mrs. Thornton goes on to say that she made a promise to Mrs. Hale that she would put Margaret on the right path if she ever strayed and will thus go and talk to her. She then asks her son if he believes that the man Margaret was seen with is her lover, which he confirms before being afflicted with a physical pain. He says to his mother that Margaret needs help, and that she should go to her. She goes to the Hale residence.She practically lets herself into the house and finds Margaret right away, looking to scald her for her assumed actions, but on seeing Margarets countenance, she is slightly subdued. Margaret is glad that the woman has come, but once Mrs. Thornton starts to talk, the whole attitude changes. Margaret call is reprimanded for galivanting around with a strange man late at night so soon after refusing her son's proposal. Margaret is furious with this characterisation but cannot defend herself and admit who the man is. After a little back and forth, Margaret leaves the room like an offended princess. Mrs. Thornton reflects that if she and her son had gotten together, they he would have to keep an eye on her lest she would lead the household. Mr. Thornton is passing an even worse morning than his mother. He has many orders to complete and has spent a lot of money on new machines, and the new imported Irish hands need to be trained, something he doesn't have enough time to do. He goes out of the factory and is stopped quickly by Higgins, saying he wishes to talk. Thornton doesn't have the time, so Higgins decides to wait until the man comes back. On his return, Thornton is surprised to see Higgins still there and invites him in to talk. As he goes in, the overlooker lets his Master know who Higgins is, changing Thornton's attitude towards Higgins, greatly. Inside, Thornton asks Higgins what he wants, and when Higgins replies that he is there for work, Thornton treats it as a joke. Thornton says that he has lost many workers because of Higgins' union antics and tells him to look for work elsewhere. Higgins turns around to go, but when he remembers Boucher's family, he turns round again to state his case. It is no use however, and Thornton sends him on his way. When he leaves his office, Thornton asks the overlooker how long Higgins waited for, it was 5 hours that he had been standing outside the factory gateSEO stuff... Elizabeth Gaskell's classic, "North and South" sees Margaret Hale's live uprooted as her family moves to the north of England. Initially disgusted by the ugliness of the industrial town of Milton, Margaret develops a strong sense of social justice after seeing the poverty and suffering of local mill workers.
