Since the story of a remarkable 2004 U.S. military UAP incident involving the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group first came to widespread public attention, speculation has ensued about whether anomalous aerial vehicle popularly known as the "Tic Tac" might be a secretive U.S. technology. Now, new claims have come to light that argue the unusual vehicle could belong to American defense contractor Lockheed Martin, but how credible are the claims? This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we examine the recent claims, and trace the likely trail of clues back to the possible source of these allegations. How likely is it that the famous Tic Tac UAP incident might have involved an experimental military technology, and does the newest evidence support this remarkable claim? Have you had a UFO/UAP sighting? Please consider reporting your sighting to the UAP Sightings Reporting System, a public resource for information about sightings of aerial phenomena. In 1995, an international row broke out between Canada and Spain over fishing quotas. It started with gunfire and ended with a deal. The dispute began after Canada set up restrictions to protect fish stocks, including the turbot. A 320km (200 mile) controlled zone was placed around the country's north Atlantic coast. Fishermen also had to stick to quotas. But, according to Canada, some boats from the European Union were catching far more turbot than had been agreed. As a warning, the coastguard chased off one Spanish trawler, shooting machine gunfire over the bow and arresting the crew. But Spanish officials were furious and denied any wrongdoing. The Turbot War had begun. Brian Tobin was Canada's Minister for Fisheries and Oceans. He tells Jane Wilkinson about the part he played in the dispute.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Picture: Brian Tobin and a turbot. Brigid Bell set out on a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail just two years ago, and had the most extraordinary encounter in the Smokies. That she lived to tell the tale–and continued her thru-hike–is testament to her resilience and the calmness she gained as a 911 dispatcher. Brigid not only flourished on the trail, but she also grew a deep love for the community she found there, and wanted to give back, eventually finding her way into hostel ownership, at the excellent Weary Feet Hostel. Near-death experiences have been reported since the dawn of humankind. In almost all cases, the stories are very similar.Every year, around 350,000 people in the United States experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting. Worldwide data is staggering. Very few of these people survive; of the ten percent who do, a few report experiencing a life-after-death memory. The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) has estimated that 85% of children who experienced cardiac arrest have had a near-death experience. This rate is more than twice that of an adult. In this book, you will read personal accounts of people who have been successfully revived after they were pronounced dead. Each has their own account, but you will see a similar theme in each - how each of them had to face their decision-making during their lifetime and whether those decisions were bad or good. Each had to stand in some form of judgment. This correlates to the principles taught in the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions.BioJonathan Gregory Reed was born and raised in southern Virginia, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It wasn't long ago that both heads of state and prominent policymakers could speak seriously about a world without nuclear weapons. But in the course of just a few years, nuclear concerns have come back in force. Arms control has broken down almost entirely. China has started a massive expansion of its arsenal, putting basic assumptions about deterrence in doubt. Vladimir Putin has threatened nuclear use in Ukraine—threats that were taken very seriously by American officials. And proliferation risks have grown, with regard to both American adversaries like Iran and American allies in Europe and Asia who may no longer trust security commitments from the United States. Vipin Narang and Pranay Vaddi until recently oversaw nuclear policy in the Pentagon and on the National Security Council. In a new essay for Foreign Affairs, they call the situation nothing short of a “Category 5 hurricane.” And for the United States, that means putting nuclear strategy back at the center of foreign policy. Editor-at-large Hugh Eakin spoke with Narang and Vaddi about this changing nuclear landscape and what the United States must do to survive this new nuclear age. You can find sources, transcripts, and more episodes of The Foreign Affairs Interview at https://www.foreignaffairs.com/podcasts/foreign-affairs-interview.
In this podcast, Francis Hunt discusses the current economic landscape, focusing on the potential collapse of debt markets and the rise of alternative assets like gold, silver, and platinum. He argues that we are witnessing the end of a 40-year bond market cycle, with long-term debt instruments experiencing significant yield increases across multiple countries, including the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Hunt emphasizes that the traditional safe-haven assets like government bonds are losing their appeal due to capital devaluation and low yields. He suggests that investors are increasingly turning to precious metals as a preservation of capital strategy. Technical analysis of gold, platinum, and silver charts indicates potential breakouts and continued upward momentum, with gold potentially reaching targets around $3,700. A key discussion point is the unraveling of the Japanese carry trade, where low-cost Japanese funding has been used to invest in higher-yielding assets globally. As Japanese long-term yields rise, this trade becomes less attractive, potentially causing significant financial disruption. Hunt believes this could trigger a broader financial restructuring. The conversation also explores the potential vulnerability of the United States as a global economic hegemon. Hunt argues that the U.S. is not immune to economic challenges and may experience a more dramatic economic downturn due to its higher starting point. He warns about the potential collapse of pension systems, driven by complex financial instruments like Leveraged Debt Instruments (LDIs) that have created unsustainable financial structures. Ultimately, Hunt predicts a shift towards alternative assets and potentially a universal basic income (UBI) system as traditional financial mechanisms break down. He advises investors to focus on physical precious metals and be cautious of complex financial products and large asset management firms. The podcast presents a sobering view of the current global economic landscape, suggesting significant structural changes are on the horizon.

During a congressional hearing yesterday, Republican lawmakers accused university leaders of failing to do enough to combat antisemitism on their campuses. That's a claim that the university officials strongly rejected. The hearing was the latest attempt by Republicans to use what they see as the growing threat against Jews to their political advantage. And it reflects a plan that was first laid out by the Heritage Foundation, the same conservative think tank that produced Project 2025.That plan, known as Project Esther, may have once seemed far-fetched. Katie J.M. Baker explains how it has become a reality.Guest: Katie J.M. Baker, a national investigative correspondent for The New York Times. Background reading: Even before President Trump was re-elected, the Heritage Foundation, best known for Project 2025, set out to destroy pro-Palestinian activism in the United States. University leaders rejected Republican attacks, saying they were working to protect Jewish students but also free speech on their campuses. For more information on today's episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily. Apple Backs Donald Trump in Rare Earth Minerals Push by Investing $500 Million in U.S. Mine Tech giant Apple is backing President Donald Trump in a push for rare earth minerals, and is expected to announce a $500 million investment in the only rare earth mine currently operating in the United States. Apple plans to invest $500 million in the Las Vegas-based rare earth mining company, MP Materials, The White House, meanwhile, is calling the deal a “major win” for the Trump administration. “This is a huge win for the president, who has the foresight to make this issue a priority,” a senior White House official told Fox News. “Apple deserves a lot of credit for stepping up. It's good for the country, good for American workers, and it'll prove to be good business, too.” “Other companies should take notice,” the White House official added. The deal also includes building a new recycling facility in Mountain Pass, California, which will reportedly reprocess materials from used electronics to be used in future Apple products. Moreover, Apple and MP Materials plan to build another facility in Fort Worth, Texas, to create magnets that will be used in the tech giant's products, as well as other electronics around the world, sources told Fox News. Donald Trump is being raked over the coals by his own supporters for downplaying the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and defending allies like Pam Bondi, despite previously promising transparency and accountability. In this video Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger accuse Trump and other political elites—across both parties—of protecting powerful figures implicated in Epstein's activities to avoid exposure of broader systemic corruption and blackmail networks. Trump's attempt to dismiss the issue as a "radical left" conspiracy has clearly backfired, resulting in widespread backlash even from the MAGA faithful on Truth Social. Plus segments on libertarian Dave Smith's warm reception at a TPUSA event after saying Israel is not the United States' ally, Tucker Carlson railing against greedy elites for killing the American Dream and the whistleblower revealing massive geoengineering projects underway in the U.S.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, and essayist. He was praised as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced",[1] with William Faulkner calling him "the father of American literature".[2] Twain's novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884),[3] with the latter often called the "Great American Novel". He also wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894) and cowrote The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) with Charles Dudley Warner. The novelist Ernest Hemingway claimed that "All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn."[4]
A federal judge has certified a class action lawsuit to protect all children who would be impacted by Donald Trump's unconstitutional birthright citizenship ban, and he issued a preliminary injunction putting a temporary stop to it. In episode 497 astrologer Chris Brennan analyzes predictions made about Iran on The Astrology Podcast over the past year, and discusses what we can learn from those predictions in terms of mundane astrology. Starting with the eclipse season that happened last year in April 2024, I began seeing seeing astrological indications that implied a conflict with Iran would escalate over the course of the next year, and we ended up making a number of predictions to that effect in from mid-2024 to early 2025. After those predictions were fulfilled in June of 2025 when Israel and the United States launched a surprise attack on Iran, I went back and looked at the statements we made over the past year in order to see how we did, and ended up making a clip compilation from different episodes. During the course of this episode I present 10 clips from different episodes of The Astrology Podcast over the past year where we talked about Iran and made different predictions based on the astrological alignments we were seeing, and in between each clip I add some commentary in order to contextualize the clip and explain the different stages in our thinking. Putting together all of the clips and statements we made like this is really useful because you can see the evolution of our thinking, as we discovered new things and as new developments took place, and I think there are a number of useful lessons that can be learned from studying the things we got right as well as the areas where we could have done better. My hope is that astrologers can use this as a case study, and apply some of the lessons we learned from this to making other world astrology predictions in the future. Our analysts Paul Walsh, James Lord and Marina Zavolock discuss the dollar's decline, the strength of the euro, and the mixed impact on European equities.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley.----- Transcript -----Paul Walsh: Welcome to Thoughts on the Markets. I'm Paul Walsh, Morgan Stanley's Head of European Product. And today we're discussing the weakness we've seen year-to-date in the U.S. dollar and what this means for the European stock market. It's Tuesday, July the 15th at 3:00 PM in London.I'm delighted to be joined by my colleagues, Marina Zavolock, Morgan Stanley's Chief European Equity Strategist, and James Lord, Morgan Stanley's Chief Global FX Strategist.James, I'm going to start with you because I think we've got a really differentiated view here on the U.S. dollar. And I think when we started the year, the bearish view that we had as a house on the U.S. dollar, I don't think many would've agreed with, frankly. And yet here we are today, and we've seen the U.S. dollar weakness proliferating so far this year – but actually it's more than that. When I listen to your view and the team's view, it sounds like we've got a much more structurally bearish outlook on the U.S. dollar from here, which has got some tenure. So, I don't want to steal your thunder, but why don't you tell us, kind of frame the debate, for us around the U.S. dollar and what you're thinking.James Lord: So, at the beginning of the year, you're right. The consensus was that, you know, the election of Donald Trump was going to deliver another period of what people have called U.S. exceptionalism.Paul Walsh: Yeah.James Lord: And with that it would've been outperformance of U.S. equities, outperformance of U.S. growth, continued capital inflows into the United States and outperformance of the U.S. dollar. At the time we had a slightly different view. I mean, with the help of the economics team, we took the other side of that debate largely on the assumption that actually U.S. growth was quite likely to slow through 2025, and probably into 2026 as well – on the back of restrictions on immigration, lack of fiscal stimulus. And, increasingly as trade tariffs were going to be implemented…Paul Walsh: Yeah. Tariffs, of course…James Lord: That was going to be something that weighed on growth. So that was how we set out the beginning of the year. And as the year has progressed, the story has evolved. Like some of the other things that have happened, around just the extent to which tariff uncertainty has escalated. The section 899 debate.Paul Walsh: Yeah.James Lord: Some of the softness in the data and just the huge amounts of uncertainty that surrounds U.S. policymaking in general has accelerated the decline in the U.S. dollar. So, we do think that this has got further to go. I mean, the targets that we set at the beginning of the year, we kind of already met them. But when we published our midyear outlook, we extended the target. So, we may even have to go towards the bull case target of euro-dollar of 130.Paul Walsh: Mm-hmm.James Lord: But as the U.S. data slows and the Fed debate really kicks off where at Morgan Stanley U.S. Economics research is expecting the Fed to ultimately cut to 2.5 percent...Paul Walsh: Yeah.Lord: That's really going to really weigh on the dollar as well. And this comes on the back of a 15-year bull market for the dollar.Paul Walsh: That's right.James Lord: From 2010 all the way through to the end of last year, the dollar has been on a tear.Paul Walsh: On a structural bull run.James Lord: Absolutely. And was at the upper end of that long-term historical range. And the U.S. has got 4 percent GDP current account deficit in a slowing growth environment. It's going to be tough for the dollar to keep going up. And so, we think we're sort of not in the early stages, maybe sort of halfway through this dollar decline. But it's a huge change compared to what we've been used to. So, it's going to have big implications for macro, for companies, for all sorts of people.Paul Walsh: Yeah. And I think that last point you make is absolutely critical in terms of the implications for corporates in particular, Marina, because that's what we spend every hour of every working day thinking about. And yes, currency's been on the radar, I get that. But I think this structural dynamic that James alludes to perhaps is not really conventional wisdom still, when I think about the sector analysts and how clients are thinking about the outlook for the U.S. dollar. But the good news is that you've obviously done detailed work in collaboration with the floor to understand the complexities of how this bearish dollar view is percolating across the different stocks and sectors. So, I wondered if you could walk us through what your observations are and what your conclusions are having done the work.Marina Zavolock: First of all, I just want to acknowledge that what you just said there. My background is emerging markets and coming into covering Europe about a year and a half ago, I've been surprised, especially amid the really big, you know, shift that we're seeing that James was highlighting – how FX has been kind of this secondary consideration. In the process of doing this work, I realized that analysts all look at FX in different way. Investors all look at FX in different way. And in …Paul Walsh: So do corporates.Marina Zavolock: Yeah, corporates all look at FX in different way. We've looked a lot at that. Having that EM background where we used to think about FX as much as we thought about equities, it was as fundamental to the story...Paul Walsh: And to be clear, that's because of the volatility…Marina Zavolock: Exactly, which we're now seeing now coming into, you know, global markets effectively with the dollar moves that we've had. What we've done is created or attempted to create a framework for assessing FX exposure by stock, the level of FX mismatches, the types of FX mismatches and the various types of hedging policies that you have for those – particularly you have hedging for transactional FX mismatches.Paul Walsh: Mm-hmm.Marina Zavolock: And we've looked at this from stock level, sector level, aggregating the stock level data and country level. And basically, overall, some of the key conclusions are that the list of stocks that benefit from Euro strength that we've identified, which is actually a small pocket of the European index. That group of stocks that actually benefits from euro strength has been strongly outperforming the European index, especially year-to-date.Paul Walsh: Mm-hmm.Marina Zavolock: And just every day it's kind of keeps breaking on a relative basis to new highs. Given the backdrop of James' view there, we expect that to continue. On the other hand, you have even more exposure within the European index of companies that are being hit basically with earnings, downgrades in local currency terms. That into this earning season in particular, we expect that to continue to be a risk for local currency earnings.Paul Walsh: Mm-hmm.Marina Zavolock: The stocks that are most negatively impacted, they tend to have a lot of dollar exposure or EM exposure where you have pockets of currency weakness as well. So overall what we found through our analysis is that more than half of the European index is negatively exposed to this euro and other local currency strength. The sectors that are positively exposed is a minority of the index. So about 30 percent is either materially or positively exposed to the euro and other local currency strength. And sectors within that in particular that stand out positively exposed utilities, real estate banks. And the companies in this bucket, which we spend a lot of time identifying, they are strongly outperforming the index. They're breaking to new highs almost on a daily basis relative to the index. And I think that's going to continue into earning season because that's going to be one of the standouts positively, amid probably a lot of downgrades for companies who have translational exposure to the U.S. or EM.Paul Walsh: And so, let's take that one step further, Marina, because obviously hedging is an important part of the process for companies. And as we've heard from James, of a 15-year bull run for dollar strength. And so most companies would've been hedging, you know, dollar strength to be fair where they've got mismatches. But what are your observations having looked at the hedging side of the equation?Marina Zavolock: Yeah, so let me start with FX mismatches. So, we find that about half of the European index is exposed to some level of FX mismatches.Paul Walsh: Mm-hmm.Marina Zavolock: So, you have intra-European currency mismatches. You have companies sourcing goods in Asia or China and shipping them to Europe. So, it's actually a favorable FX mismatch. And then as far as hedging, the type of hedging that tends to happen for companies is related to transactional mismatches. So, these are cost revenue, balance sheet mismatches; cashflow distribution type mismatches. So, they're more the types of mismatches that could create risk rather than translational mismatches, which are – they're just going to happen.Paul Walsh: Yeah.Marina Zavolock: And one of the most interesting aspects of our report is that we found that companies that have advanced hedging, FX hedging programs, they first of all, they tend to outperform, when you compare them to companies with limited or no hedging, despite having transactional mismatches. And secondly, they tend to have lower share price volatility as well, particularly versus the companies with no hedging, which have the most share price volatility. So, the analysis, generally, in Europe of this most, the most probably diversified region globally, is that FX hedging actually does generate alpha and contributes to relative performance.Paul Walsh: Let's connect the two a little bit here now, James, because obviously as companies start to recalibrate for a world where dollar weakness might proliferate for longer, those hedging strategies are going to have to change. So just any kind of insights you can give us from that perspective. And maybe implications across currency markets as a result of how those behavioral changes might play out, I think would be very interesting for our listeners.James Lord: Yeah, I think one thing that companies can do is change some of the tactics around how they implement the hedges. So, this can revolve around both the timing and also the full extent of the hedge ratios that they have. I mean, some companies who are – in our conversations with them when they're talking about their hedging policy, they may have a range. Maybe they don't hedge a 100 percent of the risk that they're trying to hedge. They might have to do something between 80 and a hundred percent. So, you can, you can adjust your hedge ratios…Paul Walsh: Adjust the balances a bit.James Lord: Yeah. And you can delay the timing of them as well. The other side of it is just deciding like exactly what kind of instrument to use to hedge as well. I mean, you can hedge just using pure spot markets. You can use forward markets and currencies. You can implement different types of options, strategies. And I think this was some of the information that we were trying to glean from the survey was this question that Marina was asking about. Do you have a limited or advanced hedging program? Typically, we would find that corporates that have advanced programs might be using more options-based strategies, for example. And you know, one of the pieces of analysis in the report that my colleague Dave Adams did was really looking at the effectiveness of different strategies depending on the market environment that we're in.So, are we in a sort of risk-averse market environment, high vol environment? Different types of strategies work for different types of market environments. So, I would encourage all corporates that are thinking about implementing some kind of hedging strategy to have a look at that document because it provides a lot of information about the different ways you can implement your hedges. And some are much more cost effective than others.Paul Walsh: Marina, last thought from you?Marina Zavolock: I just want to say overall for Europe there is this kind of story about Europe has no growth, which we've heard for many years, and it's sort of true. It is true in local currency terms. So European earnings growth now on consensus estimates for this year is approaching one percent; it's close to 1 percent. On the back of the moves we've already seen in FX, we're probably going to go negative by the time this earning season is over in local currency terms. But based on our analysis, that is primarily impacted by translation. So, it is just because Europe has a lot of exposure to the U.S., it has some EM exposure. So, I would just really emphasize here that for investors; so, investors, many of which don't hedge FX, when you're comparing Europe growth to the U.S., it's probably better to look in dollar terms or at least in constant currency terms. And in dollar terms, European earnings growth at this point are 7.6 percent in dollar terms. That's giving Europe the benefit for the euro exposure that it has in other local currencies. So, I think these things, as FX starts to be front of mind for investors more and more, these things will become more common focus points. But right now, a lot of investors just compare local currency earnings growth.Paul Walsh: So, this is not a straightforward topic, and we obviously think this is a very important theme moving through the balance of this year. But clearly, you're going to see some immediate impact moving through the next quarter of earnings.Marina and James, thanks as always for helping us make some sense of it all.James Lord: Thanks, Paul.Marina Zavolock: Thank you.Paul Walsh: And to our listeners out there, thank you as always for tuning in.If you enjoy Thoughts on the Market, please leave us a review wherever you listen and share the podcast with a friend or colleague today.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom seems to be more interested in podcasting, siding with protesters, and pointing fingers at the Trump administration than actually fixing the problems in his state. Newsom's record long record of failure is evident in the was California is spiraling out of control: a crumbling infrastructure, surging poverty, and broken immigration enforcement. Victor Davis Hanson has a message for Gavin Newsom on why his priorities are not only out of touch—but dangerous—on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “He's now inserted himself into the ICE deportations crisis in California and siding with the protesters that are trying to obstruct ICE. And he has a very incoherent position. … I guess the supposition is that Gavin thought it was quite moral for 12 million people to break the law, but it's quite amoral for somebody to try to rectify the situation and enforce the law. “ You look at a state that is in complete free fall, it is a catastrophe, and rather than addressing transportation, energy, poverty, housing, gasoline, what are you doing? You're campaigning for president. And you're in Twitter wars with the president of the United States. And you're defending the catastrophic governance in Los Angeles. And you're trying to impede the enforcement of a law that if it was enforced, you would be the biggest beneficiary.”
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a newly established U.S.-backed aid group distributing food in Gaza, is under fire from critics who say hundreds of Gazans have been killed near its distribution sites. But is there a bigger story here?In this episode, I sit down with Johnnie Moore, executive chairman of the GHF and former commissioner for the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.“We have one mission, to feed the people of Gaza in a way that Hamas—a designated terrorist organization in the United States and Europe—can't steal the food because for many, many years, Hamas has been stealing the food of the Gazan people,” Moore says.“The problem in Gaza is that the United Nations and other international agencies created a system which empowered virtually every bad actor and every bad force in the Gaza Strip to make a bad situation worse.”Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and guests and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.
We have a heritage of faith, but we're not just studying history. God has called us to this time and place to complete an assignment. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the United States' Christian beginnings and the obligation we have to uphold godly ideals in our culture today. Pastor Allen shares about Elijah's and Jesus' difficult assignments—and how they overcame opposition with God's strength. We all have a sphere of influence and a mission from the Lord, so let's work at recognizing His movement and saying yes to His invitations!

It was a week that brought the future of Greece and the Eurozone to the brink. Ten years ago, on 6 July the Greek people voted against the terms of a financial bailout which included raising taxes and slashing welfare spending. Greece owed €323bn to various countries and banks within Europe. Its banks were closed. A quarter of the population and half of Greece's young people were unemployed. The morning after the vote, Euclid Tsakalotos was brought in to replace Yanis Varoufakis as finance minister. His predecessor had accused European leaders of “terrorism” in their handling of the crisis. Parachuted in to last-ditch talks with angry European leaders, Euclid Tsakalotos describes to Josephine McDermott the make-or-break 17-hour summit in Brussels. He reveals that when Angela Merkel, the leader of Greece's biggest lender Germany, said she was leaving the room because she could not accept what was on the table, Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, actually locked the door to stop her leaving and force an agreement to be reached. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. I've been looking forward to this interview with Lorna Trigg for a while now! Lorna's herbal path was strongly influenced by the practices of the indigenous people who lived near her childhood family farm in South Africa, and she has such a creative and unique perspective that I just had to learn more from her.Lorna shared about a plant that she has known since childhood, the beautiful passionflower (both the Passiflora edulis she grew up with in South Africa, and the Passiflora incarnata that called to her as an adult here in the United States). She shared her insights on what passionflower is perhaps best well-known for—its benefits for sleeplessness, which I took advantage of the very night after the interview!—as well as many other gifts of this gorgeous plant. Not only does passionflower make great medicine, it has delicious fruit, too! I can't wait to try them in Lorna's recipe for Soothing Passion Flower Custard Cups. You can download your beautifully-illustrated recipe card here.By the end of this episode, you'll know:► How the growth patterns of passionflower echo its medicinal benefits► What makes passionflower such a wonderful herbal ally during menstruation► How to work with passionflower to calm a busy mind and get better sleep► The fascinating relationship between ants and passionflower► and so much more…For those of you who don't know her, Lorna's formative years were steeped in her grandmother Verster's and her mother Willie's teachings and guidance as a way of life, looking at the natural world of plant allies as the norm for food and healing. Lorna grew up in the tropical rainforest terrain of South Africa's southern tip, and spent summers inland on the savannas of the family farm. She watched and learned from the children of the tribal people how and what plants to use for food or medicine while out in the fields with the sheep and cattle. The tribal Sangomas, which are the shamans and medicine men and women, held a fascination for her. She peeked into their huts and saw bundles of dried herbs, seeds, furs and horns used for divination and healing. And so it began, imprinted from an early age, her curiosity sparked.I'm thrilled to share our conversation with you today!----Get full show notes and more information at: herbswithrosaleepodcast.comFor more behind-the-scenes of this podcast, follow @rosaleedelaforet on Instagram!Working successfully with herbs requires three essential skills. Title: From Burnout to Balance: The Holistic Health Framework for Business Leaders with Justin Roethlingshoefer Summary: In this episode, Seth Bradley interviews performance and holistic health expert Justin Roethlingshoefer, who shares his journey from overweight and obsessed with data as a child to becoming a thought leader in elite athletics and executive performance. Justin reveals that while most people approach health through a "body up" lens, obsessing over diets, workouts, and gadgets, true health and healing come from the opposite direction. He advocates for a "top-down" method where spiritual identity and emotional clarity are foundational, which then naturally align the mind and body for sustainable, lasting change. Justin explains how high achievers, even billionaires and franchise owners, often remain unfulfilled and unhealthy because they treat symptoms rather than root causes. His company, Own It, integrates data-driven physical health with deep mental, emotional, and spiritual coaching to create real transformation. True health, he argues, is only possible when all areas of life are aligned — and while results may take time, the impact is profound and permanent. Links to watch and subscribe: Bullet Point Highlights: Body-up health solutions are backwards. Real, lasting transformation starts with spiritual identity and mindset before physical optimization. Holistic integration is required. Mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health must be aligned for true healing and performance. Success ≠ health or fulfillment. High-performing entrepreneurs and executives often suffer because they chase outcomes, not alignment. Transformation takes patience. Let's just jump right in, Tell the listeners a little bit about your background and take it back as far as you like. Justin Roethlingshoefer So man, how long's the show? I think the big thing, to be honest with you, anytime I kind of get asked about my background, my background shaped me. My background kind of brought me through to what it is that we're doing now. And I kind of speak in terms of anointings and callings and what it is that was stamped on us from a young age. And for me, it was health. I knew that. When I leaned into that as a young boy at 12, 13 years old, I was a fat kid. was the one that I was just made fun of. But I also had this deep desire to know and understand my body at a level that didn't make sense to a lot of people. And there was, I still remember I did this study at the University of Alberta, born and raised in Canada, and was a very athletic kid, but was just overweight. And I did this study. And they were looking at how kids and based on their habits and behaviors, whether you could actually be fat and fit. And so they brought me in and we did all these tests and all these studies and my VO2 max was at the 99 percentile. My muscle mass was at the 99 percentile. My time spent watching TV, playing video games, all these other things was at the 99th percentile of not doing those things. But yet I had a BMI that was obese. I had a body fat percentage, I think of 34%, something in these areas. And I still remember the article that came out, it was the front page of the paper, because it was a really groundbreaking study in Canada, and it said, and fit, question mark, with a picture of me. and I was on the bike and it really just started, like it messed with my mind. And obviously only continued the teasing, continued all these things. But I was the kid that wore a heart rate monitor to bed, wore a heart rate monitor all day long, had a pulse oximeter that I would look at three, four times a day. When I was reading, when everyone else was reading comic books, I was reading medical journals. And this was something that I was just fully enthralled with. Well, That experience threw me the other direction and from about 14 to 18 became severely anorexic. Had a really hard ability to see myself well and just love who I was and I had a major body composition issue and that propelled me down into the United States. I still happen to be a very good athlete. I came to the United States on a hockey scholarship. Did two undergraduate degrees one in exercise science another nutrition went got my master's degree in exercise physiology concentration and sport performance Went and got my massage therapy license went and got my postgraduate doctoral studies in heart rate variability sleep and recovery science and that propelled me into the National Hockey League I started to really understand the body in a way that not many people did and realizing that health is Holistic health is integrated health is mental physical spiritual and emotional conditions or states of the human being and they all have to be aligned and if there's any type of Disintegration between those four you will not be healed you will not be healthy and you will not realize what I call true health and so I took that philosophy of using data technology and Information to help heal the entire person to the NHL and all of a sudden we started to see injury rates drop, we saw recovery times drop, we saw sickness rates drop, we saw performances increase, we saw energy increase, and the owners, the GMs are coming to saying, what are you doing? Like, I don't understand this. You're bringing a philosophy that is very weird to us, we don't understand it, but yet we see the fruits of it at the end of the day, what's happening? That, over the course of eight years, caused me to become a thought leader and really take... some stages in some unique ways in professional sports and change the culture and the dynamic of how we approached performance. But going from Washington to Anaheim, I had one of the ownership team members of the capitals come and say, hey, I need to meet with you when you come out. And I'd seen this person and as they walked through the door, I was like, my gosh, I'd seen them six months previous. And as they walked through, was like, you've aged 30 years in five, six months. Like what's going on? He's like, I don't know. I don't feel well. Like I'm not sleeping. I'm stressed. I feel like I've got no control of my body and I don't understand what's happening. Can you help me? And the back of my mind, I was like, this guy's a billionaire. He's just making copious amounts of money. He's a businessman. I work with athletes. But then all of a sudden I realized, no, this isn't an athlete problem. This is a human problem. And I put him through the same philosophy. We did testing. We looked at heart rate variability. We started to track information. We started to have conversations that were very philosophical in nature, mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally aligned, starting to go through a lot of these identities that he had that he wasn't able to shake. And all of a sudden, eight months later, the guy looks like he's 35 years old and He's 80. And that was the turning point for me to be like, hey, I can no longer just stay in the national hockey. Like I have to walk away and be able to impact the health of the world because like I said, this is not just a athlete problem. This is a human problem. And the more that we can empower people, the more that we can help them understand their bodies and understand how to heal. The definition of integrated is the exact same definition of heal. To make one, to make wholeness, to create oneness. And that's what we have to do mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally if we truly want to heal. You just can't be a muscle head on the outside and be sick internally and think that you're healthy. On the other side, you can't just not go to the gym and go to the therapist all day and be so aligned and do meditation and just know your purpose and be preaching from the stages. there's still disintegration. We need to make sure it's holistic, all-encompassing and integrated to realize that deep healing. And that's what we've been doing for hundreds of thousands of people who are business owners and business leaders, entrepreneurs for the last two and a half, three years. So it's been, that's kind of been that journey in what looks like about six and a half minutes. Seth Bradley That's incredible, man. There's so much to unpack in six and a half minutes there. Man, I don't even know where to start. I mean, it sounds like you've had this almost an obsession with data and reading that data from your body before everybody had a Fitbit, right? Justin Roethlingshoefer Oh, for sure. A Fitbit or some sort of watch, right? And you were doing this before that kind of hit the stage because it just interests. So like on that note, they're like definitely doing it before it was cool. But like quick story, when I was 12 years old, I asked my parents for a heart rate monitor for Christmas. And you have to realize this is back in 1998. So the heart rate monitors were not like they are now. You can't get them for 100 bucks. You can't get a wearable device that's cheap and easy. I think that the heart monitor then cost like $1,600. And they're like, why do you need a heart monitor? Like, are you sick? Is there something wrong? I was like, no, I'm just interested. Well, they're like, we're not buying one of these things. And I said, no, like, pool your money that you give me for Christmas, my birthday, and pool grandma and grandpa's money and pool like aunt and uncle's. Put it all together and that's all I want. You can just never get me a gift for the next year, not till next Christmas. So that's what they did. And that was literally how I got my first piece. And I've just been obsessed with it ever since of really being able to just provide information. Because I think understanding, knowledge is one thing, understanding is something completely different. And we need to be able to dissociate between information and understanding and help cross that bridge so that you can be empowered to take action in your own health. Seth Bradley Yeah. Yeah, that's incredible. Your parents kind of made that sacrifice to make it happen for you. I don't know if you would have been a little bit set back because they didn't provide that for you at that time, but it kind of catapulted you on this journey. You know, do you think that, you know, reading that data is maybe the first step in kind of working towards analyzing that holistic approach? Or where do you kind of see all this beginning? Justin Roethlingshoefer First step is, that's to be honest with you, that's the world's approach. The world's approach I say is a body up approach. So it's, there's four entities of health, right? Mental, physical, spiritual, emotional. And I attach each one of those to a different entity. So physical, your body. Emotional, your heart. Mental, your mind. And spirit, your spiritual component. And the world's approach is to take a bottom up body first approach. You need to get the wearable device. You need to start tracking all this stuff. You need to look at everything under the sun. You need to go get your DNA tested. You need to go get your blood tested. You need to go and do the cold plunge, the sauna, the red light, the intermittent fasting, the high intensity interval training. You have to do all the things because you have to get the six pack. You have to lose 20 pounds. You have to do whatever it might be. It's the body up approach. Well, that body up approach creates a poisoning of the heart, poisoning of the emotions, it brings on anxiety, it brings on fear, it brings on this feeling of overwhelm. All things that I experienced as a child, which is why I continue to pair them through, I was fearful of becoming fat again, thus I took things to an extreme. I was fearful of... not being able to have the energy to do what I wanted, thus I was acting out of certain things and I would have to go do my workouts and it would bring up massive anxiety because it was just so much and I was overwhelmed by it all. That poisoning of the heart creates a separation of the mind, thus I'm not good enough, I'm not strong enough, I'm never gonna get there, I'm not consistent enough, I'm not worthy of all these things. And that separation of the mind creates a cloudiness in our spirit, a cloudiness of who we are and what we identify with. I identified as a fat kid. I identified as the anorexic sick kid, the weird kid. That's what stuck with me and that's why I was never fully healthy even though at 20 years old to now at 36, I don't look any different. I've still got the six pack. I've still got the muscles. I still can lift a house. I still feel really strong. But it's not until about two, maybe even three years ago that I was holistically healthy, that I loved who I was, that I was really rooted. What we have to do is we have to take a top-down approach. We have to really create oneness in our spirit first. Who are we? Why are we here? What's our calling? What's our identity? What is that true desire that we're wanting to live for? Once we have that, we have a sense of oneness of our mind. We are worth it. We are good enough. We're exactly where we need to be. We're in a journey that's exciting. Thus that eliminates and creates a purification of our heart and eliminates the anxieties, eliminates the fears and puts us into a state of enthusiasm, energy, mental clarity, empowerment to go and step forward into these things powerfully, which then we're able to create consistency, sustainability and longevity of our body through our habits, behaviors and lifestyles that are now something we look forward to. And so coming back to your comment is the first thing we have to do is not get the wearable device, is not do the thing. The first thing we have to do is get our self right spiritually, which comes back to identifying who we are. Who do we identify as? What are we? What is our goal, our mission, our purpose? Because once we align that, once we get clear on that, everything else starts to fall into place. Seth Bradley Got it, got it. Yeah, and it's like that body up approach. It's easier to sell. The culture that we live in, it's just easier to sell products. It's easier to get people thinking they need to look a certain way. It's just that sales kind of approach, but it's backwards. You've got to get yourself right spiritually, mentally before the more the body type of physical things can even matter to you internally. Justin Roethlingshoefer I think, yes, I think you're right, but even as you start to look at that, why do you think we're more unhealthy now than ever? We are living in a place where there's more mental illness in our society than ever before. There's more anxiety than ever before. There's more depression than ever before. We're actually sicker physically than ever before. Diabetes is on the rise. Alzheimer's is on the rise. Alzheimer's is just type three diabetes. That's all it is. An inability to control blood sugar. We have an obesity epidemic rising. We have now 52% of Americans that are obese, not overweight, obese. And so it's not more information. It's not getting more of these things. It's not go do this, gym, go and do this thing. There is 77% of people who lose weight and get healthy, gain back the weight they lost. Why? Because it was done in an unsustainable way. They had a hole that they were searching to fill that didn't align along the way. And once they accomplished the certain outcome, it didn't make them feel any different. And so it comes back to this component of integrating everything together. And when I built Own It, that was the big thing I was focused on. Do you have to have an exercise routine? You're darn right you do. Do you have to have a new way of eating? You're darn right you do. Do you want to be able to supplement the right way? You sure do. Do you want to make sure you're sleeping well and have a recovery routine? You're darn right that's important. But you also have to have... the person who's gonna help you with self care, the person who's gonna get your mind right, the person who's gonna get your heart right, the people who are going to help you align in this way, which is why we've got everything in one place and everything had to be integrated. You can't be trying to put your own wheel together because when you put your own wheel together, you miss out. And so I wanted to create a space where somebody could walk in and everything is there. You're gonna come in, you're gonna have your team, your team that wraps their arms around you. You're gonna get your DNA testing, you're gonna get your cellular blood testing, you're gonna get your custom supplementation, you're gonna get your workout plan, you're gonna get your wearable piece of technology so that your health coaches and your functional medicine docs and your RDs can track everything and help you and guide you and put these things in place for you in a slow, iterative way so that over 12 months, you don't even recognize the habits you were in before. But on the same breath, you're gonna be working mentally, emotionally, and spiritually on identifying who you are and how do you get over this gap so we can create a bridge so that you do come in this state of oneness and you step into everything powerfully. And so as a business owner, as an executive, as a business leader, you have become transformed, not conformed to what we're telling you in the world. Seth Bradley Got it. So it truly is holistic, right? It's not let's start one thing two three four. It's all at once small steps to lead to a major change. Justin Roethlingshoefer 100%. And I think the reason that people aren't willing to have patience with it, they're not willing to be developed. Everybody wants to arrive. Everybody wants to get to the end result. But nobody's willing to take the trip. Nobody's willing to have great story. So we had a client who started, this guy owns 17 different franchises and he came to us about three months ago. Four weeks into his process, he called and goes, I'm unhappy, I'm not seeing changes. I've been in this for four weeks and I've just been adding some different habits. I'm looking at my wearable devices. I've just got my testing done. Nothing's changing yet. I said to him — and let's call this guy Chris — I said, Chris... We don't even have your full testing results back yet. We've only really started to implement a lot of these lifestyle changes and routines about three and a half weeks ago. We've only been able to get two really deep in-depth calls to get you realigned. We've only just started to add some of these things in. And you kind of talk him off a ledge, talk him off a ledge. He comes back, continues to be consistent. And just last week... He's been with us, like I said, for about three and a half months. Just last week, he sends us a screenshot. His quality of sleep used to be at about 37%. So REM and deep sleep totals over total time of sleep time. His quality sleep was always about 37%. He just passed 50%. His HRV, which is an intrinsic measure of how your body's adapting to stress and strain... was his average was about 24. Just for a little bit of context, your goal is to always see a trend line upwards. His trend line was always downwards. He has an average HRV now of 54. His respiration rate, meaning how many breaths per minute he's taking throughout the course of the day is dropping, meaning he's becoming more efficient. His blood glucose levels, because we've now tested twice, are half of what they were before. He was at a pre-diabetic level previously. His anxiety in terms of just talking is half of what it was and he's down 16 pounds. Seth Bradley Got it, got it. Yeah, and it's like that body up approach. It's easier to sell. The culture that we live in, it's just easier to sell products. It's easier to get people thinking they need to look a certain way. It's just that sales kind of approach, but it's backwards. On today’s episode, Jason discusses whether the hype train surrounding Texas quarterback Arch Manning has already gone off the rails, why guys like Deion Sanders and Nick Saban are so outwardly in favor of NIL reform, why it's absolutely fair to criticize Caitlin Clark for her season-long shooting slump (even if she is dealing with a lingering groin injury), and the chances that Team USA Basketball doesn't bring home the gold at the 2028 Olympic games. In November 2020 The Merriman Financial Education Foundation released “We're Talking Millions! 12 Simple Ways to Supercharge Your Retirement.” The purpose of the book was to focus on a series of very simple steps any investor might take to improve their financial future. "Understanding how to invest wisely for your future can be daunting. Many people never get started for fear of making mistakes. Others make choices based on hearsay and hope, sold on hype or risk aversion. In "We're Talking Millions!" you will learn why and how to make a handful of smart choices that can turn modest regular savings into a secure future. You'll discover "12 Small Steps with Big Payoffs," each of which can add $1 million or more to your retirement nest egg if you start in your 20s or 30s. These steps are well known.”The book has had a huge impact on an untold number of readers. The numbers are unknown because the Foundation offer the book free as a pdf, as well as a free link to the audio version (LINK) that was read by Truth Teller Don McDonald. While the book has had almost 400 online Amazon reviews (averaging 4 1/2 stars), the approximately 100 written reviews have over 95% 5 star ratings. Here is one from a young student (age 19 at the time) who is now in medical school! 5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing book for young people interested in investingReviewed in the United States on December 17, 2020Format: Paperback Verified Purchase"We're Talking Millions" was a life-changing book. I am a 19 year-old college student who was directed toward Mr. Merriman's book as a great resource for first time investors. His book was the perfect resource for someone with little to no prior knowledge about investing. It starts by outlining the twelve steps to boost a retirement fund, listing tips and tricks along the way. One of the most helpful parts for me was that all of the investment lingo was clearly defined and explained, and I could get a very clear sense as to how each of these small steps fits into the overall puzzle. The book then outlines how to get started: explaining the "Two Funds for Life" investment plan, what investment companies are best to use, and suggesting specific investment funds.I cannot recommend this book enough!! I feel confident about my investment plan after reading this book, and I plan to share it with as many of my peers as possible. I have already given it to my sister and best friend. If you are looking for information about investing and don't have the energy to read a long, dense investing book, then "We're Talking Millions" is the book for you! It is interesting, short, and extremely informative, and I hope that it helps you as much as it helped me.Now Paul has recorded this podcast and video to discuss the 12 steps. The video was produced as part of a special offering to introduce Western Washington University alumni to The Merriman Financial Literacy Program that is working to educate all WWU students on the personal finance topics that will be an important part of their future. Our hope is you will pass along these links to others in your life who might benefit from this free educational information. Is there someone in your life you think could benefit from the discussion of these 12 huge decisions? Here are several ways to access this information: The following link is to a free pdf of our book, "We're Talking Millions! 12 Simple Ways to Supercharge Your Retirement.” A second and third link takes you to a 2 hour video and podcast on the 12 million dollar decisions. And finally a very short (12 minute) podcast or video review of the 12 decisions.
The New York Times finally admitted Israel is carrying out a genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, in an article by an Israeli scholar who studies the Holocaust. “I'm just disappointed in him, but I'm not done with him”The BBC's Chief North America Correspondent, Gary O'Donoghue, speaks to US President Donald Trump in a wide-ranging telephone interview from the Oval Office. The call with the president came just hours after he announced plans to send weapons to Ukraine and warned of severe tariffs on Russia if there was no ceasefire deal within 50 days. Mr. Trump, who celebrated his 79th birthday last month, was inaugurated for a second term in the White House at the start of this year. It's safe to say that the 47th president of the United States has wasted little time in picking up where he left off four years earlier, upending the status quo both at home and abroad. In the conversation, he reflects on the failed attempt on his life at an election campaign rally last July in Butler, Pennsylvania. He also discusses the ongoing war in Ukraine, US immigration policy, and hopes for his legacy.Thank you to Gary O'Donoghue and Iona Hampson for their help in making this programme. It's Wednesday, July 16th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Christians losing property rights in India, Nepal and Pakistan International Christian Concern reports Christians are losing their property rights and access to land in South Asian nations like India, Nepal, and Pakistan. In particular, India's second-most populous state of Maharashtra plans to demolish hundreds of church buildings within six months. Officials claim the structures are unauthorized, and many of them are in tribal areas. The government also plans to enact an anti-conversion law. Such laws are often used to target Christians in the country. Currently, 12 of 28 states in India have anti-conversion laws. South Asian nations like India are ranked on the Open Doors' World Watch List as some of the most difficult places to live as a Christian. World population growth slowing down Pew Research recently released world population projections for the next 75 years. The global population more than tripled over the last 75 years from 2.5 to 8.2 billion people. However, population growth is expected to slow down, only reaching 10.2 billion by 2100. Currently, the most populous countries in the world are China, India, and the U.S. China's population is expected to shrink by more than half over the next 75 years, while the U.S. and India are expected to grow slightly. Global population growth is projected to primarily come from nations in Africa like Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. 10th anniversary of undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood This week marks 10 years since the Center for Medical Progress released their first undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood. Executives for the abortion giant were caught discussing how they sold the body parts of murdered babies. The undercover investigation has contributed to efforts for defunding Planned Parenthood. Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue, served as a founding member on the board of the Center for Medical Progress. He said, “I am honored to have been a part of this historic investigation, even though it came at great personal cost to those of us involved in revealing the horrific truth about the illicit trade in aborted baby parts. Today's Planned Parenthood is vastly different from what it was in 2015. It is a weaker organization with waning political influence that is now collapsing from within.” Proverbs 6:17 says that among the seven things God hates are “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.” Trump threatens Russia with tariff to get peace deal with Ukraine In a public meeting with NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened severe tariffs on Monday if Russia doesn't come to a peace deal with Ukraine in the next 50 days. TRUMP: “One of the reasons that you're here today is to hear that we are very unhappy, I am, with Russia. We're very, very unhappy with them. And we're going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don't have a deal in 50 days, tariffs at about 100%. You'd call them secondary tariffs. You know what that means.” (His comments occur at the :45 mark of this video) Trump also said the United States will sell top-of-the-line weapons to countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In turn, NATO countries would then be able to provide such weapons like the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. Trump wants Federal Reserve to lower interest to save trillion dollars The U.S. consumer price index rose by 0.3% last month. That put the 12-month inflation rate at 2.7%. Prices have been generally decreasing over the last year, but the inflation rate is still above the Federal Reserve's target of 2%. Trump responded to the news by calling on the Fed to lower interest rates by three points. He said this would save an estimated one trillion dollars on debt payments. Bible readers most likely to volunteer in community And finally, the American Bible Society released the fourth chapter of its State of the Bible USA 2025 report. The chapter evaluated activities that promote wellbeing like physical exercise, spending time with a friend, volunteering in the community, meditation, and praying to God. The study found people who engage the most with the Bible are also the most likely to engage in those activities, especially volunteering in the community. Such activities were also associated with higher levels of hope and lower levels of stress, anxiety, and loneliness. However, people who attend church regularly experienced even better results in those areas. 1 Timothy 4:8 says, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, July 16th, in the year of our Lord 2025.
