They recount a humorous experience at the post office involving a friendly, funny clerk. A local festival closing the post office caused a moment of panic about missing their eight-day deadline. A visit to La Questura (police station) revealed the need for a “declaration of entry” due to their indirect arrival through France. They discovered that all printers in Italy come with built-in scanners, highlighting the local need for frequent document scanning. Deliveries and Shopping Experiences: Delivery tracking in Italy is often inaccurate. Packages arrive unexpectedly, sometimes before they are even marked as shipped online. Kimberly and Tommaso joke that the only way to reliably receive a package is to stay home all day. Or all week! Shopping in Italian malls is a different experience than in the United States. Malls are vibrant, aesthetically pleasing, and full of people. They describe a first mall experience with an exquisite wine bar and restaurant, feeling like they were in Venice or Rome. The stores themselves offer a personalized, art-gallery-like experience with attentive staff. Despite visiting on weekdays, the malls were busy, indicating a thriving shopping culture, unlike the decline of malls in America. Recycling Rules: Italy has a thorough and strict recycling system, with daily pickups for specific items. Food scraps go into communal compost, used for local agriculture. The community effort for recycling is apparent everywhere. They appreciate that the Italian system explains where recycled materials go, fostering a sense of purpose. Ciao!

Meanwhile, Parker's boss tells him to do everything he can to keep Kelly off the ship—he's discovered who she is and why she's really there.Parker can't bring himself to do it. Even though he's forgotten his passport in the hotel room, he sends Kelly ahead in a taxi. But she can't leave without him. She comes back for Parker, and they finally kiss.They take a tiny boat, then a scooter, and eventually make it back to the ship. When they arrive, Parker's boss apologizes to Kelly for making Parker stall—something she didn't even realize had happened. To make matters worse, Kelly's own boss fires her, and she blames Parker for the whole thing. He insists he never actually stalled, but it's too late.Parker confronts his boss, who apologizes, so… small win.Later, Kelly looks through photos of the two of them and realizes Parker was telling the truth all along. She goes to find him, they make up, and she's brought into the merger pitch after all. Just as the deal is about to be signed, the company owner backs out, admitting he actually loves cruising and doesn't want to sell.Parker and Kelly celebrate with a kiss. When Christina Babich's partner, Alex, died suddenly from a brain aneurysm while they were visiting his family in Italy, her world shattered in more ways than one. Full Text of Readings The Saint of the day is Saint Joseph of Leonissa Saint Joseph of Leonissa's Story Saint Joseph of Leonissa was born at Leonissa in the Kingdom of Naples. As a boy and as a student in early adulthood, Joseph drew attention for his energy and virtue. Offered a nobleman's daughter in marriage, Joseph refused and joined the Capuchins in his hometown in 1573 instead. Avoiding the safe compromises by which people sometimes undercut the gospel, Joseph denied himself hearty meals and comfortable quarters as he prepared for ordination and a life of preaching. In 1587, Saint Joseph of Leonissa went to Constantinople to take care of the Christian galley slaves working under Turkish masters. Imprisoned for this work, he was warned not to resume it on his release. He did and was again imprisoned and then condemned to death. Miraculously freed, he returned to Italy where he preached to the poor and reconciled feuding families as well as warring cities which had been at odds for years. He was canonized in 1745. Reflection Saints often jar us because they challenge our ideas about what we need for “the good life.” “I'll be happy when. . . ,” we may say, wasting an incredible amount of time on the periphery of life. People like Saint Joseph of Leonissa challenge us to face life courageously and get to the heart of it: life with God. In 2007, Amanda Knox, an American studying abroad in Italy, was arrested, tried, and convicted of the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. After years in an Italian jail, she was ultimately freed, reconvicted, and finally exonerated in 2015. Since then, she has married, become a mother, and she has returned to Italy, even meeting with the prosector who concocted outrageous stories that led to her imprisonment.
