In this episode of the Leadership in Aviation Podcast, René Banglesdorf is joined by Trish Gilbert. Trish Gilbert serves as the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Association (IFATCA) Executive Vice President Americas. Trish discusses several topics including her years of experience as an air traffic controller, leadership in aviaton, and airspace safety and her current role on the safety review board. She also discusses balancing innovation and safety as well as her advice for young leaders in aviation. In addition, she also talks about recently obtaining her private pilot's license and how it feels to be on the other side of the radio. More about Trish: Previously she served 12 years (4-terms) as the National Air Traffic Controllers Association's (NATCA) Executive Vice President. During her time in that position she helped lead and oversee NATCA's comprehensive efforts to build successful working relationships with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), the aviation industry, the AFL-CIO, and members of the U.S. Congress that resulted in excellent progress on aviation safety. Her efforts included serving on many boards and committees: the FAA's Drone Advisory Committee (DAC), the FAA/NATCA Collaborative Steering Committee, the Aero Club of Washington Board of Governors, the National Aeronautic Association Board of Directors, Director of the NATCA Charitable Foundation, the Vice Chair of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) Air Traffic Services Committee and IFATCA's representative to the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems panel (RPASP) at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). For IFATCA she also served on IFATCA's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, the Constitution and Administration Committee (CAC) and the Finance Committee (FIC). Trish served on the AFL-CIO Political Committee, Legislative/Policy Committee, and the Committee on Women Workers. She is also the former Labor Chair of the FAA National Employee Involvement Committee, which was tasked with modeling collaborative behavior, providing leadership, sharing best practices, and developing templates regarding pre-decisional involvement and cooperation. In May 2018, at its annual Women in Aviation Scholarship luncheon, the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) honored Gilbert by announcing the creation of a new permanently-endowed scholarship in her name. In May 2020, U.S. Secretary of Transportation appointed Trish to the newly-formed Women in Aviation Advisory Board (WIAAB). Pursuant to Section 612 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, the WIAAB was established to develop strategies and recommendations that would encourage women and girls to enter the field of aviation. In March 2022, the WIAAB transmitted the Report “Breaking Barriers for Women in Aviation: Flight Plan for The Future” to the FAA Administrator and the U.S. Congress. By trade and passion Trish is an air traffic controller and worked 21 years at Houston Center (ZHU) prior to serving U.S. air traffic controllers as their EVP. “First landing on an asphalt runway more than three years after getting my licence!” – Nico Engmann In this first episode of TSC season 2, we enjoy a “Big Tire Bro Chat” with Nico Engmann from Germany/Spain and Maxence Pons from France –looking back at when and where they started their backcountry and mountain flying adventures as well as about their respective planes. We looked back to 2021 when several friends of us including myself and Marius Jumolea from Romania flew to the French national STOL competition. We talked about STOL competitions expending in France and as well about flight helmets. Sorry about some screechy noises coming back and forth during the episode. I tried to remove as much of them as I could in post processing. Maxence owes me a cold one for being the culprit :D If you search for an awesome vacation place in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees mountains and love riding enduro motorcycles, go checkout Nico's wife and family camping/bungalow park “Isabena Bungalow Park”. https://www.isabena.eu/en/ If you happen to stay in the south-East of France and want to fly, go check out Maxence's flight school “Aeroclub du Soleil” in Cuers. https://aeroclubdusoleil.fr Let me know what you like and don´t like about the show! contact@thestolcollective.com and/or go checkout this episode's page on our website if you want to discover more content: www.thestolcollective.com Music credits: “Slowly”, Amon Tobin – Supermodified, 2000 Cover: Maxime Compagnon
The Joyce-Armstrong Fragment was found in the field which is called Lower Haycock, lying one mile to the westward of the village of Withyham, upon the Kent and Sussex border. It was on the 15th September last that an agricultural labourer, James Flynn, perceived a briar pipe lying near the footpath which skirts the hedge in Lower Haycock. A few paces farther on he picked up a pair of broken binocular glasses. Finally, among some nettles in the ditch, he caught sight of a flat, canvas-backed book, which proved to be a note-book with detachable leaves, some of which had come loose and were fluttering along the base of the hedge. These he collected, but some, including the first, were never recovered, and leave a deplorable hiatus in this all-important statement. The note-book was taken by the labourer to his master, who in turn showed it to Dr. J. H. Atherton, of Hartfield. This gentleman at once recognized the need for an expert examination, and the manuscript was forwarded to the Aero Club in London, where it now lies. I will now give the narrative exactly as it stands, beginning at page three of the blood-soaked note-book...

Hi everyone, Welcome to the channel - in this video, we've found another Airport who are discriminating against Drone Pilots and not allowing them to operate inside their Flight Restriction Zone... FRZ. Whilst we fully understand why sometimes this may be the appropriate course of action... AND OBVIOUSLY, FLight safety is always a priority... This time, its Leicester Aerodrome, denying a drone flight permission inside an area WHICH THEIR TRAFFIC CAN'T FLY, due to their own noise abatement procedure!!! If you've had any issues with access to airspace as a drone operator, then please let us know. We can't fight every case, but we'll do our best to help educate the relevant airspace managers and, of course, file the relevant complaint with the airspace regulators, the CAA! The Royal Aero Club of Western Australia is the oldest flying training club in WA. It was incorporated in August 1929 as the Aero Club of Australia (W.A. Branch) Inc. and first flew its aircraft from Maylands Aerodrome in April 1930. On that date, the Club officially took over training from Perth Flying School with two de Havilland DH.60 Moth aircraft donated by the Federal Government. During WW2 the Club ceased operations but following the end of the War the Club was re-established in Maylands. The Club moved its operations to Guildford Aerodrome in 1959 and then to Jandakot Airport in 1965. Former General Manager and Head of Instructor Training for the Club John Douglas joined us to talk about their fascinating history and the Clubs 90 anniversary.

96-year-old Betty Dybbro was fortunate enough to spend one year as a WASP (Women Air Force Service Pilot) during World War Two, and in order to tell her story, we enlisted Katherine K. and Nithi B., two members of Amelia’s Aero Club who participate in aviation and aerospace activities at the Museum. They ask Betty about growing up in rural Indiana, her very first flight, and what she felt when she first heard the news about Pearl Harbor. Betty loved her time as a WASP and calls it “the most pleasant year of my life,” (even though she wasn’t a fan of all the rules WASPs had to follow). And as an experienced woman pilot, Betty gave the Amelia’s girls some advice on becoming a pilot: “Just go for it. Fly as much as you can, in different airplanes, too.” If you want to learn more about WASPs, stop by our Personal Courage Wing to see photos and artifacts of the brave women who flew during WWII. And if you know a middle school girl who loves all things STEM and aviation, check out Amelia’s Aero Club and attend the next event. Host: Sean Mobley Interviewers: Katherine K. and Nithi B. On today’s episode of the Happy Half Hour, we’re talking about Hundred Proof, the gastropub in Hillcrest that just hired former George’s at the Cove bar director Stephen Kurpinsky to revamp their cocktail offerings. Plus, an Indian restaurant is opening next month in South Park and Aero Club will live on thanks to its new owners, The Waterfront’s Chad Cline and Jason Nichols. Today’s guest is Frank Vizcarra, the owner of the new East Village taqueria, Lola55. His resume spans professional soccer, working at Pizza Hut and McDonald’s, and investing in Tender Greens. He opened Lola, a tribute to his 81-year-old mother, earlier this month with many of the recipes he grew up eating. Frank talks about why McDonald’s is the most misunderstood company in the world, his nationwide taco research tour, and expansion plans for Lola55. In Two People/$50, we’re recommending Civico1845, El Carrito, and Carruth Wine Cellars Garden. And did you hear? San Diego Magazine has launched its Insiders club, offering exclusive discounts at editor-picked restaurants, bars, spas, and more for just $10 per month. That’s right—it’ll cost you less than happy hour.
As a companion piece to the last episode on the Phantom Airships of 1896-7, I take a look at the work of an outsider artist that some say proves the existence of a secret society of airship builders at work in California in the 1850s. On today’s show hosts Erin Chambers Smith and Troy Johnson along with producer Archana Ram discuss the shock of Anthony Bourdain’s death and the legacy he’ll leave. In our local scene, there’s the opening of Punch Bowl Social and Prepkitchen San Marcos, as well as the Red Fox Room and Aero Club’s moves. Today’s guest is Jennifer Davies, the San Diego Tourism Authority’s Director of Cultural Tourism for Balboa Park. We talk about the park’s Food Truck Fridays series and what’s going on with the restaurant scene in one of San Diego’s most visited landmarks. In hot topics, we’re discussing how people are pointing fingers at a local hospitality group for the death of hundreds of fish in Lake San Marcos. When reached for comment, the group, which handles day-to-day activities of the lake, referred us to a work plan organized by the Citizens Development Corporation, which maintains upkeep of the lake. They say they “are currently working with stakeholders, residents of the surrounding community, and State regulators to arrive at a long term solution to many issues including nutrients, excess algae, and fish kills at the Lake.” We’re also chatting about Jimbo’s suing Horton Plaza. They claim the shopping center’s lackluster performance has cost the natural grocery store millions in sales thanks, in part, to low foot traffic. Plus, we’re gearing up for our big 100th episode, which we’ll be taping on Hornblower Cruise’s Sights & Sips Cocktail Cruise June 22. And we want you there! Enter here for a chance to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to join us on the bay.

On May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren was finishing breakfast with her 22-year-old son, Joseph Ahrens and his friends at her home in Wellington, Florida, when a visitor arrived at the door. She lived in the Aero Club, an upscale community with a private airstrip for use by Aero Club residents. Marlene went to answer the […]
On a red-hot, breaking-news edition of After Hours AM/The Criminal Code — True Crime with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we talk with ace reporter Tonya Alanez about the Palm Beach Killer Clown cold case murder of Marlene Warren. Twenty-seven years later, 54 year-old Sheila Keen Warren has been charged with first degree murder in the case. We discuss the case with Tonya at top of hour 2; Hour 1 Joel and Eric review the week's craziest True Crime news. On Memorial Day 1990, Marlene Warren, 40, was at her ranch-style house in the affluent Aero Club development of Wellington in Palm Beach County, where the neighborhood had a private landing strip with taxiways to each home. Her son Joseph Ahrens and several of his friends were also there. Finishing up breakfast around 10:45 a.m. they noticed a White Chrysler LeBaron pull into the driveway and a person dressed as a clown carrying a flower arrangement and two balloons exit the vehicle and approach the front door. Marlene answered the front door, and as the clown offered the items to her witnesses heard a gunshot and Marlene fell to the ground. The person dressed as a clown calmly walked back to the LeBaron and drove away. Marlene sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to Palm West Hospital where she died two days later. During the initial investigation detectives identified a suspect, Sheila Keen, but an arrest was never made. In 2014, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit reopened the homicide investigation. Witnesses were re-contacted and additional DNA analysis was conducted. It also came to light that Sheila Keen had married Michael Warren, Marlene Warren's husband, in 2002. Both had been living in Tennessee operating a restaurant together. As a result of the investigation, probable cause was established linking Sheila Keen Warren to the murder of Marlene Warren. On August 31, 2017, this case was presented to a grand jury who issued a true bill for First Degree Murder. An arres
Join the Higherside Chats podcast as Greg Carlwood hosts returning guest, Walter Bosley. Bosley has upped the ante with his research into a group of Hermetic Prussian Nationalist called NYMZA, artist Charles Dellschau, and a secret society of exotic craft makers in California called the Sonora Aero Club. It's a deep and rich Pandora's box of conspiracy goodness that connects some dots and fills in many gaps- taking the popular idea o a 20th century breakaway civilization and extending the timeline back to it's 19th century beginnings ad beyond. 2:42 Starting at the beginning, this saga suggests that certain people uncovered a lost civilization about secret technologies that might have come from an advanced civilization in the ancient past, or information brought here from another world. So, before diving into it's rediscovering in the 19th century, Greg and Walter establish exactly what there was to rediscover. As Walter explains, in order to fully trace the history of such ancient technologies, one has to go back to the days of Atlantis, the story from the Mahabharata about ancient wars involving the use of such technologies. 7:00 Walter elaborates on exactly how this new technology found its way to Earth. He theorizes, there was a war between two off- planet factions with the losing party eventually finding it's way here, attempting to re-establish a civilization, and colonizing. While inhabiting the planet, they slowly impart their knowledge of these advanced technologies to alchemist and Hermetic societies, with the end goal being that we develop into such an advanced culture, we may one day fight on their behalf against their intergalactic foes. 15:00 After tracing the saga from Alexandria, we find the six degrees of separation include the Knights Templar, Freemasonry, royal societies, Angelic societies to Prussian nationalists via the Teutonic Knights. With Prussian nationalists throwing the fuel on the fire, Greg and Walter discuss the secret German society NYMZA, their surrogate Charles Dellschau and the connection to the Sonora Aero Club. 26:00 To put a finer point on the type of technology being used, Greg and Walter discuss the mechanics and science behind what makes these airships fly. As Walter explains, because the only references we have exist in the works of Dellschau and witness reports of the airship mysteries, when researchers take an honest look into the events that happened, the technology depicted by Dellschau is curiously similar to the other had witnessed in the 1890s. According to Walter, these technologies included the rotation of objects and involved a composition of green liquid referred to by Peter Mennis as, Supe. 32:30 From green goo and rotating bells in German technological advances, Greg and Walter move onto discussions of telluric currents of the Earth and how they tie into this airship technology. As Walter explains, when looking into the sightings of the 1890's mystery and where the Sonora Aero Cub was active, you find they correlate to where these telluric currents have been established and known to exist. Walter contends these ships not only use these currents as a track, but this "world grid" is an integral part of how this technology actually works. 38:00 Bringing the legends of the Sonora Aero Club full circle, Greg and Walter discuss the affiliation between their location in California and the infamous Gold Rush. Stories of the alchemy and a fascination with gold are commonplace, but Walter elaborates by detailing how this may go beyond a simple interest, and extend into a knowledge that may include how and where the planet produces gold. 43:30 Greg and Walter discuss the possibility that an area of the Earth may be engineered to produce gold. Walter contends the Earth has the potential to act a massive manipulatable bio-machine. Sesh Heri's, "Handprint of Atlas", also details how off Earth civilizations may have landed here and began engineering eco-systems...

In this episode I welcome Alex Turnbull into the virtual hanger. Alex is a mountain flying instructor at the Wakatipu Aero Club in Queenstown, New Zealand. This is another episode of what you can do with your certificate aside from the typical $100 hamburger or pancake breakfast flight. Listen in as Alex talks about mountain and remote strip flying in this unique and challenging airspace. He also talks about the unique requirement of private pilot training in New Zealand, hint it involves mountain flying.I hope Steve and Grant from the Plane Crazy Down Under podcast don't get angry with me for encroaching on their part of the world.Below is information from Gareth Allen, in charge of promotion for the club, on the club itself and the area. The aero club flies four cessna 172s, a cessna 206, and a Tecnam P2002JF. Most of the club revenue comes from flights into Milford Sound, a popular scenic area, with a challenging approach and landingat Milford Sound airstrip. The strip itself is 1800ft long, at the intersection of two valleys and the sound itself, producing a washing machine of turbulence, and an awkward traffic pattern. On busy summer days the airspace can get quite busy, with Islanders, Caravans, and smaller planes shuffling tourists in and out from Queenstown. Weather in the area is quite changeable, making the flight impossible roughly a third of the days during the summer, as all tourism operations are done under VFR. Often when weather is marginal, some passes into the area will be closed, making local knowledge of the network of creeks and valleys in and out of the sound essential.Flight training makes up the rest of the club's income, with a mixture of overseas and local pilots earning PPLs, CPLs, and doing mountain flight training. There is no instrument flight training at Queenstown,as the IAFs are all at ~10k feet, and the DHs at 4000 (runway elevation is 1200ft). The specialty here is mountain flying, as every flight that leaves Queenstown interacts with the mountains, and thereare an almost endless supply of new valleys to explore. A few dozen remote strips of ranging difficulty within a half hour's flight round out the saddle-crossing, low flight, and contour flight training. There's also a beach landing strip 40 minutes away, for beach operations training.Given Queenstown's reputation as the "adventure capitol of the world," many tourists want an aviation experience that is less scenic, and more exhilarating. The club gives trial flights daily during thesummer months, mostly to foreign tourists, through the river valleys and back over the lake to Queenstown. At the high end of the adrenaline spectrum is the aerobatic flight, using a Pitts Special. The Pitts is known for being extremely difficult to fly, and especially to land. It can't be landed with a "wheel landing" and instead needs a three-point landing. At that flight attitude there is zero forward visibility, meaning that pilots must use peripheral vision to keep lined up with the runway and avoid ground looping. I was contacted by some folks from Wakatipu Aero Club, down there in New Zealand, saying that they’d like to appear on the Podcast. One of their instructors is a chap called Alex Turnbull. He is originally from Morpeth in the North East of the UK and has travelled all the way to the other side of the world to pursue his dream of flying GA in a really interesting and challenging environment.
Ramona Cox, also known as Skychick, is a world-class adventurer. She is best known for her 3-month SOLO flying adventures into some of the most remote and challenging off-road airports in North America. Packing her airplane with a kayak, motorized bike, solar-powered mobile office, satellite phone and weapons, she has dodged bear and mountain lion while exploring extreme wilderness areas. Aside from flying, Ramona is one of few civilian female pilots qualified to fly in a tight (Blue Angels) style formation. As an underwater videographer and digital editor, she has traveled the world to film unusual sea life including schooling hammerheads in Costa Rica, whalesharks in the Galapagos and giant mantas in Micronesia. She produced two DVD's on Aviation in China and has been featured on Time Warner Cable, CNN, America Online and in numerous newspaper and magazine publications. As a professional speaker, she uses her adventures as a metaphor to overcoming the challenges of daily life. Having lost her mother to cancer at the age of 10, Ramona learned early on that each moment is precious and has spent her life encouraging others to pursue their passions and live their dreams. Ramona is a Board member of the Aero Club of Southern California and has raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society and Redondo Beach Wellness Community.
