Everyone deserves the correct information upfront rather than having to go through multiple medications. (7:00) Georgia goes through her personal history and how she stumbled onto dietary health changes. Sweeteners have many side effects. (16:00) Sugar is the only addictive substance that society sanctions for children. (20:00) It is not only addictive, but it is also physically damaging to the brain because it creates oxidative stress in the brain. (24:00) Refined flours do the same by causing a glycogen load; as a result, your insulin is raised longer. (25:00) Most people are metabolically broken, so sugars and carbs are even more harmful. If your body "needs" sugar, your body will make it. Fats and proteins are essential, but carbs are not. (31:00) The FDA recommends a bunch of nonsense. And now our gut health is a topic that needs to be paid attention to. Better Mental Health Vinnie knows people whose adult kids are still having issues, but refuse to believe that diet can help. (38:00) Georgia always uses dietary interventions first, and she has found them to be the most effective for her clients (41:00) There are certain foods the brain needs. It's not just junk food that hurts, but also foods we've been told are healthy that aren't (like whole grains). Dr. Ede's book Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind addresses dietary therapy as a first step. (45:00) They discuss many different things that have been happening in the news, which are examples of declining mental health. The MCA Chicago is presenting "Firelei Báez," the first North American mid-career survey of the artist's paintings and installations. Báez's work often explores the legacies of colonialism across the American and the African diaspora, in the Caribbean, and beyond. Her works are often explosively colorful and use complex and layered materials, including archival material and paint, to unsettle fixed categories and historical events. The exhibition was curated by Eva Respini with Tessa Bachi Haas; the MCA Chicago presentation was organized by Carla Acevedo-Yates with Cecelia González Godino and Iris Colburn. It is on view through May 31. A catalogue was published by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston in association with DelMonico Books. It is available from Amazon and Bookshop for $36-56. Institutions that have previously presented major Báez exhibitions include the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, The Momentary in Bentonville, Ark., the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Foggie-Barnett and Leers are the co-curators of "Black Photojournalism" at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. In this episode, Jerry Bradshaw and Dr. Stewart Hilliard discuss: Why your dog training should be based on theory, pragmatic results, and experience. Theoretical vs intuitive dog training.  How is idealist training different from pragmatic training?  Why you should not be removing all stressors from your dog training.  Control and learned helplessness.   Key Takeaways: Dog training is a long series of lonely decisions. You are a team of one training your dog, and even if you have a coach, in the moment, you are the one making each decision based on the problem facing you in the moment. Technical training is great, but you do need to be able to generalize the training for different locations and situations for the best results. If, in the course of doing its job, your dog will face adversity, then having a background in overcoming some adversity in training is going to stand the dog in good stead. There is considerable discussion and data that speak to the point that the ideal state for an animal to develop in is not necessarily one that is free of stress. Aversive control can be used without producing bad welfare for the subjects of the training. On the flip side, excellent positive reinforcement technicians also produce really good results in dog training.  Animals in avoidance are not running from something; they are running to something safe.    "If you want to engage with dogs intellectually, they're a very rich topic for intellectual engagement, because they're super interesting.
