Dr. John P. Gluck was honored with PETA's Trailblazing Advocacy Award in 2021 for being a shining example of ethics in science. The one-time animal experimenter, who studied with the infamous Harry Harlow, describes his own transformation from animal experimenter to a compassionate bioethicist committed to a cruelty-free science. In conversation with Emil Guillermo, Gluck talks about his childhood, his studies in college, and his professional life. He recalls when he began to see animals as patients, not tools of science. Gluck's book, "Voracious Science and Vulnerable Animals" has become a guide for scientists, especially of a new generation, seeking to practice a science aligned with their ethical identity. GRAMMY® Balloted Club Nouveau, Timex Social ClubGrammy Award Balloted singer and music label executive, Jay King, was elected CEO/President of the California Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) in June of 2019.GRAMMY® Award Balloted Jay King/Club Nouveau's music & samples have been featured in many TV & Film Soundtracks including the #1 Hit Movie "US" by Director Jordan Peele! "Jealousy" also made an appearance on the soundtrack for the film Modern Girls. "Why You Treat Me So Bad" was interpolated by the hip-hop duo Luniz, on its hit single "I Got 5 on It", and subsequently by rapper/record producer Puff Daddy on his #1 R&B single "Satisfy You".This week, I look at how a brand can stay relevant decade after decade. As a veteran mogul Jay King brings as much humility to the field as he does what has been called his genius. With three decades of continuous achievements in music, management, film/TV/radio, consulting and publishing; King has made an indelible impression. He claims Northern California in general as his hometown due to a nomadic youth spent between many of the Bay Area's cities; as well as Alaska for birthing his career. There was a deep musical undercurrent added to his early years by a clan which boasted a number of ministers, extending from his great-grandfather through a number of cousins, who all played instruments as well. His great uncle, Saunders King, a respected jazz/blues guitarist, offered the West Coast the first family hit in the 1940's—‘The S.K. Blues'—adding to the musical backdrop of King's childhood. In 1986, King starting the independent record label JAY Records to release the Timex Social Club hit ‘Rumors' and ushered in the biggest selling single of 1986 (3.5 million copies) and becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Charts. With a Top 10 single on the Billboard Pop charts for over 56 weeks, King watched his life change as his music became an unprecedented hit. What he'd produced was history-making, as nobody had before taken an R&B song from an indie label to such heights. Although having independently produced, pressed and marketed his own music King was without the money to compete at radio plays and had to be creative with promoting. “There were challenges. You couldn't reach out to stores, and social media didn't exist then so you couldn't let people know with a click of a button that you had something out. You had to get out and hustle. People were making fun of me and laughing because I was out hustling records.” Bypassing traditional methods, King utilized Macola Records because of its position as an indie manufacturer with no association to a major label.Club Nouveau's music is in heavy demand commercially in movies and is sampled in many of today's artists hit makers like Ashanti, Chris Brown and many more. The group is STILL on the scene, performing hundreds of LIVE concert a year & recording NEW music!© 2026 All Rights Reserved© 2026 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Be intentional. Design Your New Life in Retirement. Our next groups start in September. The very early registration discount ends June 21st. Learn more. What if everything you've been told about retirement is quietly working against you? John Coleman has spent his career around money and purpose, which makes his message all the more striking: money is a tool, not the point. In his new book, Good Money: Six Steps to Building a Financial Life with Purpose, he rethinks personal finance around human flourishing, and one of his steps reframes retirement itself: save for freedom, not retirement. We explore why the conventional retirement script, a withdrawl into pure leisure, carries real costs to meaning, community, and health; how continued, self-directed work changes both the math and the meaning of your plan; why your worth is never your net worth; and how to design your next chapter deliberately. It's a conversation that bridges the financial and non-financial sides of retirement, looks at retirement and purpose, and gives you a fresh way to think about what comes next. Money is good only in so much as you use it for things that build flourishing in your lives and the lives of others.” On Identity “Too often we fall into making our identity the things that are easiest to measure rather than things that are most important.” On Purpose “I believe purpose is a thing that's built, not found. What does it take to undo 100 years of harm to one of America's great rivers? In this episode of Engineering Influence, we sit down with the team winner of ACEC's 2026 Grand Conceptor Award, McMillen Engineering. McMillen, Inc. earned ACEC's top honor for the Klamath River Renewal Project, the world's largest dam removal and river restoration effort. Once the third-largest salmon-producing river system on the West Coast, the Klamath had been blocked for over a century by four aging hydroelectric dams. McMillen coordinated among six Tribal nations, more than 21 agencies, and dozens of public, private, and nonprofit partners. They turned decades of division into a unified path forward. The results speak for themselves: within months of final dam removal, salmon and lamprey returned to upstream reaches not accessed for generations. Hear how precision engineering, Indigenous-led collaboration, and a bold vision for restoration came together to set a new global standard.

Launched nationally two months earlier in tandem with the launch of the company's new app, Bundt Rewards was a loyalty program in name only, as McMillen describes it. “We went national in September of 2024, but we literally didn't have an onboarding series, and we didn't even have offers,” she said. “So, we launched this loyalty program, and nobody did anything with it.” For Nothing Bundt Cakes, her expertise came at the right time. McMillen first established herself in the loyalty industry in 1998, at age 27, when she launched Blockbuster Awards, the rewards program for the iconic video rental chain, Blockbuster.

At the 2025 AAHKS Annual Meeting, our hosts William B. Kurtz, MD and Matthew W. Bullock, DO sat with Matthew S. Hepinstall, MD, FAAOS and Kyle L. McCormick, MD, the 2025 Clinical Research Award winners to discuss their study “Maximizing Bearing Diameter Markedly Lowers Dislocations in Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty” that was presented at the AAHKS Annual Meeting. Prevention of dislocation is a topic of interest for Drs. Hepinstall and McCormick which is what prompted this study that consisted of over 8,000 patients who underwent fixed-bearing THA. Because modern polyethylene allows larger bearings in fixed-bearing THA, stability benefits of fully maximizing bearing diameter (e.g. 36-mm in 48/50-mm cups) are not well established. Drs. Hepinstall and McCormick discussed on the podcast the number of dislocations in the study with patients with maximized bearing diameters and how certain variables such as age, sex and body-mass index help to protect against dislocation. For more on how fully maximizing bearing diameter reduced dislocation odds in primary fixed-bearing THA, listen to the full podcast. #134Josh sits down with Tony Award-winning actress Julie White for a wildly entertaining deep dive into the evolution of food television, from the chaotic brilliance of Iron Chef Japan to Chef's Table, Top Chef, and the modern reality-TV era of cooking competitions. Julie shares behind-the-scenes stories from judging Iron Chef America, competing on Chopped, auditioning to play Julia Child, and her obsession with Great British Baking Show. Along the way, the two unpack why chefs became celebrities, how food media shifted from education to entertainment, and why Anthony Bourdain changed the entire genre forever. The conversation spirals into hilarious territory as they debate food movies like Big Night and The Menu, reminisce about Martha Stewart, Jamie Oliver, and Bobby Flay, and brainstorm a future travel-and-food series involving bourbon trails, crab feasts, and roadside American food pilgrimages. It's a funny, nostalgic, and surprisingly thoughtful conversation about cooking, culture, competition, television, and the strange magic that happens when food becomes entertainment.Links and resources

Christ's church will continue until He returns, and that church will continue to need church workers. Set Apart to Serve (SAS) is an initiative of the LCMS to recruit church workers. Together, we pray for workers for the Kingdom of God and encourage children to consider church work vocations. Here are three easy ways you can participate in SAS: 1. Pray with your children for God to provide church workers. 2. Talk to your children about becoming church workers. 3. Thank God for the people who work in your congregation. Taiwan Travelogue is a novel that pretends to be a travelogue, where a Japanese woman from Nagasaki, an important writer in the Japanese empire. She travels to Taiwan to travel and talk about her writing, but she comes to have a sort of friendship with a Taiwanese woman. This novel is an interrogation of Japanese and KMT colonialism in Taiwan. It may also be a romance, though that is never clear. An overall great novel that deserved the Booker.
