Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch and Phil Thomas. As we get to the bottom of why it took 11 years to get a new college football video game, we take a closer look at how schools and the NCAA treat college athletes and the lengths college programs will go to not compensate players (even with a full education) to preserve amateurism. Topics discussed include: a totally not problematic discussion about crab legs, the Rhodes Scholar turned NFL player turned neurosurgeon, and how dodging worker's compensation got us the "student-athlete."For more on NCAA sanctions against players (as well as a bunch of other topics related to this series), check out Joe Nocera and Ben Strauss, Indentured: The Inside Story of the Rebellion Against the NCAA (New York: Random House, 2016): https://www.amazon.com/Indentured-Inside-Story-Rebellion-Against/dp/1591846323.For more on the college exploits of Jameis Winston and Cam Newton, check out:"Florida's Newton faces felony counts after fellow student's laptop stolen," Associated Press (via ESPN), November 21, 2008, https://www.espn.com/college-football/news/story?id=3718266. Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch and Phil Thomas. We start actually talking about video games by diving into 20 years of college sports themed video games and how everybody seemed to make money on them but the players. Plus, the first installment of "Scandalous Games Sportschat!"Topics discussed include: An unprompted rant about Tim Tebow, Dick Vitale's merch game is on point, Stephen Hawking: color commentator, Phil is introduced to the magic of ESPN NFL 2K5, and how many Rutgers snuggies is too much? For more on Ski Festival, the recently uncovered Magnavox Odyssey skiing game, see: Donovan Harrell, "You can now play a rare, unreleased video game from the 70s, thanks to a Pitt lab," PIttwire, https://www.pitt.edu/pittwire/features-articles/magnavox-odyssey-ski-festival-recreated. Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch and Phil Thomas. We've covered the early history of college sports and the creation of the NCAA. Now we look at how college football became a multi-billion dollar enterprise thanks in no small part to the mad scramble for TV money. Topics discussed include: Penn fools around and finds out, the fraught territory of ladder sponsorships, and a whole lot of talk about mayonnaise. Hooray for our 50th episode! Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch and Phil Thomas. It's the start of the college football season in America, and we are weeks into the launch of EA Sports College Football 25, the first American college sports video game in 11 years. With that in mind, we start a deep dive into why it took so long to get a new college football game, taking a look at the history of college sports as a multi-billion dollar empire. In our first part, we examine the impact of college sports and go all the way back to their 19th century origins. Topics discussed include: Summoning Clippy with eldritch rituals, Philly sports radio call-in guys, the 19th century equivalent of performance enhancing drugs, and the incredibly dangerous flying wedge.Theme Music: Occam's Sikhwee by Sikh Knowledge (Free Music Archive: https://bit.ly/33G4sLO), used under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US (https://bit.ly/33JXogQ) More info, including show notes and sources at http://scandalousgamespodcast.wordpress.com. On this week's episode, Chris and Sylvie are torn between their hastily programmed Pride theme month and the desire to program with new releases with the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Returning to the beloved Canadian CGI series Beast Wars: Transformers, they found a way to kill two birds with one stone through a quick Google search to find "The Gayest Episode of Beast Wars." Turns out, the massive Transformers fandom has heavy representation of LGBTIQA+ members who have done all the work for us of reading queer themes into the long-running Hasbro series, and Beast Wars is no different. Sort of...Plus, we take in the heavily improved visuals and the bafflingly broadened narrative between the last time we checked out the series. For the podcast, we took a look at Season 2, Episodes 6 and 7 "Other Visits Pt. 1 & 2." Both written by Larry DiTillio and directed by John Pozer and Colin Davies respectively. On this week's episode, we maximize and roll out to take a look at another pioneering CGI series from Mainframe Entertainment with the anthropomorphized Transformers show Beast Wars: Transformers. While neither Chris or Sylvie knows a thing about Transformers lore, we nevertheless find ways appreciate the early aesthetic growing pains that was 90s CGI animation and the incredible effort by Mainframe to make "Beasties" more than just a toy commercial. Episodes covered are episode 1 and 2, "Beast Wars Part 1 & 2." Co-host of the Axalon Archives podcast Daoud (He/Him) is joining us to talk about the 1996 Transformers series Beast Wars. The Maximals and the Predacons have landed on prehistoric Earth and are fighting over the "protoforms," Transformers who have yet to take form, forge an identity, and choose a side. We discuss the early CGI graphics, the surprisingly deep existential themes, a snake/scorpion with a Texas accent, the difference between Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal, and how the Josie and the Pussycats movie was underrated. We will highlight performers who portrayed some of the nastiest villains in pop culture during our yearly Halloween specials. I am thrilled to welcome voice actor David Kaye to the podcast. Transformers fans will recognize him as the voice of Megatron (Beast Wars: Transformers, Beast Machines: Transformers, Robot Chicken, Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon, and Transformers: Cybertron) and Optimus Prime, Grimlock, and Highbrow (Transformers: Animated). He also voiced some of Marvel's most sinister characters in both video games and cartoons, including Apocalypse (X-Men: Evolution), Corvus Glaive (Guardians of the Galaxy – Cartoon series & Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order), Mysterio (Disney Infinity 3.0 and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions ), the Supreme Intelligence (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes), and Ultron (Avengers Assemble). David also voiced some of Marvel's top heroes, including Captain America (Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2), Iron Man (Fantastic Four: Worlds' Greatest Heroes and Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects ), and Vision (Avengers Assemble). He also lent his voice to characters in countless anime series, including Dragon Ball Z, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, MegaMan NT Warrior, and Monster Rancher. In addition, he voiced Sesshomaru in three different chapters of InuYasha: The Movie. David also starred in several live-action films and TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Happy Gilmore, The Quest, The X-Files, and X2: X-Men United. In this special edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, David Kaye opened up about Beast Wars: Transformers' impact on pop culture and his role as Last Week Tonight with John Oliver's announcer.

We have a pretty solid episode featuring, once again, drastically different shows. Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers and Beast Wars: Transformers. All anthropomorphic animals this week. Will the robots destroy the tiny mammals in a butterfly effect esq disaster? OR will the Rescue Rangers destroy the transformers via goofy hijinks? Episodes we watched: Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers Season 2 ep 3: Rescue Rangers to the Rescue: Part 3 Season 2 ep 35: Short Order Crooks Season 2 ep 14: The Case of the Cola Cult Beast Wars: Transformers Season 2 ep 9: Code of Hero Season 3 ep 13: Nemesis: Part 1 Season 3 ep 12: Nemesis: Part 2

The Bloobcast return to discuss the 90's CGI gem Beast Wars: Transformers. They discuss how it was more than a show to sell toys, comparisons to 2001: A Space Odyssey, bizarre Canadian name changes, the difficulties trying to watch the show in the UK, and the link between the universes of Transformers, Doctor Who, and Marvel. There's not much more than meets the eye to our game this week, Beast Wars: Transformers. Chops and Craig try to find the most redeemable thing about this game other than the cartoon show. Listen as they reminisce about all things Transformers and their conflicted feelings on the ending of the video game. Then, the Retro Relapse leaves a nasty taste in our mouth, but that's all saved by the conclusion of this seasons bracket, as we find out who's in the finals of our Character Theme Music Bracket. So prepare yourself, for BEAST WAAAAAAAARS!!!

Brunch on Eggs Benedict with A. Merc Rustad as we discuss some terrible writing advice which messed with their head and the way they got over it, how the Redwall series by Brian Jacques turned them from a reader into a writer, why some fan fiction doesn't get labeled fan fiction while other fan fiction does, the reason the animated television series Beast Wars: Transformers was such a major influence both professionally and personally, why they almost destroyed their Nebula-nominated story “This Is Not a Wardrobe Door," the secrets to assembling a short story collection, and more.
Don't call it a comeback (even though it actually is one). Shawn and Caleb are back after their break to bring you an episode about the Beast Wars: Transformers series! They discuss the history of the show, question the usefulness of a rat Transformer, and breakdown the first two episodes of the show. HUGE SPOILER WARNING and Shawn talks way too much.
Dave and Sean get into Beast War: Transformers with friend of the show Matt Reuter! Matt remembered this show from his childhood and actually never watched the original Transformers as a kid, so it was great to get his reactions watching it now as an adult. This is a difficult one because the CG animation feels very wonky and everyone, we mean everyone, gets a catch phrase, plus the transformations should be described as "body horrors!" Despite all of this, it's a part of Transformers canon and you definitely need to watch it. Autobots roll out (and into weird body horror style animals)!
