RIVIAN BREAKS GROUND ON GEORGIA PLANT Rivian has started building a $5 billion EV plant in Georgia, aiming for 200,000 vehicles yearly by 2028, unaffected by the discontinuation of federal EV tax credits. The facility will support scale and lower costs for new models like the R2, following Tesla's profitability playbook as Rivian moves into higher-volume, lower-priced vehicles. RENAULT 4 EV GETS A CARGO VAN VARIANT Renault's new electric 4 is now offered as a cargo van with a load capacity of 1,045 litres and up to 254 miles of range, priced in France from €29,300 before VAT. The charger, which includes full installation and a seven-year warranty, is compatible with solar power and smart charging tariffs. GAC AION V APPROVED FOR AUSTRALIA Chinese automaker GAC's Aion V electric SUV has been cleared for sale in Australia, featuring a 75 kWh LFP battery for up to 374 miles of range and fast charging from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. Pricing will start below $45,000 AUD, with deliveries and detailed specs announced closer to launch. TESLA MELBOURNE FSD TEST WAS NOT APPROVED Victorian authorities confirmed Tesla was not authorized to test "Full Self-Driving" on Melbourne's public roads after a viral video showed a Model Y performing an autonomous hook turn in the city center. Tesla says FSD is driver-supervised and not yet legal for autonomous use in Australia, where regulatory permits are required for such trials. TESLA ADDS 7‑YEAR WARRANTY TO SOME PARTS Tesla's 2026 model year vehicles in the US and Canada now carry a “High-Priced Propulsion-Related Part Warranty,” giving seven years' coverage for key electrical components like the power conversion system and high-voltage parts. This new warranty is separate from existing battery and drive unit terms, aimed at lowering costly repair risk for buyers. NHTSA OPENS PROBE INTO 2021 TESLA MODEL Y DOORS U.S. safety regulators have launched a probe into 174,000 Model Y vehicles from 2021 after reports the electronic door handles could fail, potentially trapping children inside. Preliminary findings suggest the issue is linked to low-voltage battery problems, and several parents broke windows to access their children during incidents. SUZUKI LAUNCHES E VITARA EV IN JAPAN IN JANUARY Suzuki's first battery-electric car, the e Vitara SUV, will go on sale in Japan in January 2026, produced in India for export and offering 267 miles per charge at around $27,000. It represents Suzuki's major push into global EVs with significant investments and ambitions for high-volume exports. ID. TOUAREG COULD BE THE FIRST SSP MODEL Volkswagen may transform its Touareg into the first fully electric SSP platform model, with combustion production ending in 2026 and SSP assembly possibly starting in Bratislava by 2029. The SSP platform promises cost savings and fast charging, with VW's wider rollout across brands and models to follow. NISSAN CUTS NEW LEAF OUTPUT OVER BATTERY SHORTAGE Nissan has halved production plans for its new Leaf due to shortfalls in battery supply, with revised output at the Tochigi plant being several thousand lower per month. The cutback delays a key launch for Nissan, which is betting on the new Leaf to reinvigorate its lagging EV business.

Diplomat Grant Dooley was inside the Australian Embassy building in Indonesia when a bomb went off, killing several people. This was just the beginning of a series of devastating events that Grant had to come to terms with years after moving back home to Australia.In 2004, Grant Dooley and his wife, Kristan, moved to Jakarta with their two young children to start a three-year posting at the Australian Embassy.In September of that year, Grant arrived at the embassy complex for a brief visit. Grace is first generation Italian Australian. Her parents immigrated from Southern Italy to Australia when they were  young. Rosa and Alfredo, Grace's parents, met many years later in Australia and started their family of four girls.  Rosa was one of nine children and she was  fifteen when landing in Australia. Alfredo lost both his parents at five years old and had a rough childhood.  He was a victim of abuse and moved from house to house as a child. De Angeli reflects saying "he did the best he could with what he had."Grace insists "that it was a cultural thing" as to why her mother stayed throughout  many years of emotional, verbal and physical abuse. Eventually, Grace and her younger sister became targets as well.  It was always the fear and bullying tactic that their father used especially against their mom, Rosa. Grace says that her father would often scream at her mother "you either stay or you die" or "you leave, I'll kill you." So her mother stayed out of fear.  "We were all brought up with the fear that if we did something wrong we would be killed," remarks Grace. "When I think back to my childhood I wasn't protected by my mother, but she taught me who not to be when I grew up."One would think that this would take a real tole on Grace's life and her future. But the best news is that with the help of her husband and many others, Grace has learned how to transform her life and heal from her scars of her father plus how to beat Breast Cancer with many different treatments and therapies including Eastern and Western Medicines, mind over matter and the list goes on and on. She is a true inspiration. She declares "it doesn't matter where you are in your journey, whether stage 1 or stage 4 breast cancer OR any illness, you need to get things right in your soul and spirit, where you are your most authentic self." She continues, "it doesn't matter as long as you are honest and liberated within yourself, it doesn't matter what happens next."For a young woman who at twenty one years old had contemplated suicide, to becoming this force of nature to heal not only herself but help others on their individual journey is remarkable.There's so much more to this story so please do listen to the episode in it's entirety. Hana Bašić, until recently a top-level athlete, represented Australia five years ago at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the women's 100-meter sprint. An Australian of Bosnian-Herzegovinian descent, Hana made history in Australian athletics as the fifth-fastest woman ever in that discipline, with an impressive personal best of 11.18 seconds. Although she retired from athletics last year, she remains a great inspiration and a source of pride for the community.

Blood cancer patients are being forced to move to Australia to access life prolonging drugs that are not funded in Aotearoa. Daratumumab, or dara, can help prolong the lives of people with the blood cancer myeloma but costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, while it is virtually free in Australia. Jo Neep was diagnosed with Myeloma in 2017 and moved to Australia to access funded Dara treatment, she spoke to Lisa Owen.

A Haematologist believes specialists are being left with no choice but to recommend some cancer patients move to Australia to get life prolonging drugs that are not funded in New Zealand. He said studies show Daratumumab can prolong life and hundreds of New Zealand patients would benefit from it each year. Haematologist, Doctor Rodger Tiedemann spoke to Lisa Owen.
