Learn how to donate effectively for Giving Tuesday and juggle multiple credit cards without hurting your credit score. How can you donate more intentionally on Giving Tuesday without blowing your budget? Does having multiple credit cards hurt your credit score? Hosts Elizabeth Ayoola and Sean Pyles discuss charitable giving and credit card management to help you support causes you care about while protecting your finances. Joined by Grace Nicolette, Vice President of Programming and External Relations at the Center for Effective Philanthropy and co-host of the Giving Done Right podcast, they begin with a discussion of how Giving Tuesday started and why intentional giving matters. They share tips and tricks on setting a realistic donation goal, choosing causes that align with your values, and spotting nonprofit red flags beyond “overhead ratios.” Grace also explains how to plan giving throughout the year, how to research organizations using public filings and news coverage, ways to overcome “do-gooder paralysis,” and the benefits of involving family and friends so giving becomes a shared, values-driven habit. Then, NerdWallet credit card and travel rewards expert Erin Hurd joins Elizabeth and Sean to discuss how having multiple credit cards (and we mean multiple!) can affect your credit score and day-to-day money life. They discuss why the number of cards you have matters less than how you manage them, how credit utilization and credit age really work, and why aggressive “churning” — opening cards for bonuses and quickly closing them — can backfire. Erin walks through how a large card lineup can actually help your utilization if you avoid overspending and always pay in full, why she treats card collecting as a long game, and how business cards may not show up on your personal credit report. She shares tactics for deciding when to keep, downgrade, or cancel a card with an annual fee, how to get value from airline and hotel perks, and how to avoid feeling overwhelmed by multiple accounts using tools like aligned due dates, autopay, spreadsheets, and digital tools such as the NerdWallet app. Resources discussed in this episode: How to Upgrade or Downgrade Your Credit Card: https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/how-to-upgrade-downgrade-your-credit-card 7 Credit Card Tips Everyone Should Know https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/credit-card-tips-everyone-should-know How to Stay Organized When You Have Multiple Credit Cards https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/stay-organized-multiple-credit-cards I've Had 80 Credit Cards. This week on The LA Food Podcast, Luca welcomes back Nancy DaSilva, co-host of Compliments to the Chef, certified New Yorker, and our official ambassador from LA's louder, older, and more globally hyped culinary sibling: New York City.We kick things off with a Thanksgiving ice-breaker before diving straight into the State of Dining in NYC. Is the vibe doom, boom, or mellow in-between? Nancy walks us through the restaurant openings shaping 2025, the spots she loves, the ones that let her down, and the trends taking over New York—while we compare them to LA's little-gem-salad, Bub-and-Grandma's-bread era.We also get into the NY food-media moment: the new critics at The New York Times, the rise of Feed Me and J. Lee's podcast, and what it means for how diners discover restaurants. Then it's Michelin time—what shocked Nancy in the 2025 Guide, how New Yorkers actually use it, and how it stacks up to LA's still-evolving Michelin culture. From impossible New York reservations to Blackbird's traction on both coasts, we break down how people are actually eating, booking and talking about restaurants right now. And yes, Nancy finally answers the question every Angeleno secretly wants to know: In 2025, does New York respect LA dining? Then we close with a special Chef's Kiss / Big Miss lightning round featuring:• turkey prices soaring 70%• Meadow Lane, NYC's new luxury-grocery fever dream• the rise of $945 caviar advent calendars• Bukayo Saka's deranged childhood breakfastIf you love restaurant culture, food media, LA vs NY banter, or just need a Thanksgiving distraction, this one is for you.

Economy, Fed Rates, and the AI Productivity Boom — Liz Peek — Peek examines the U.S. economy, noting mixed retail sales data alongside recent strength in credit card spending. She anticipates the Federal Reserve will likely reduce interest rates in December due to softening labor market conditions, despite traditional employment reporting lags. Peekemphasizes that the Fed fails to account adequately for AI's significant, though currently unmeasured, impact on productivity gains, employment displacement, and escalating electricity consumption, even as AI demonstrates substantial benefits in diagnostics and medical analysis. 1921 CHAPLIN

Learn how to spot real Black Friday deals and reshape your budget with a step-by-step money makeover. What should you watch for on Black Friday to avoid fake discounts? How can you reset your budget when debt and housing costs squeeze you? Hosts Sean Pyles and Elizabeth Ayoola discuss holiday shopping and budgeting to help you spend smarter without regrets. First, Amanda Barroso joins Elizabeth to break down Black Friday 2025: why the season now stretches from October through Cyber Monday, how members-only promos (think Prime, store cards, Walmart+) and stacked discounts can boost real savings, and why Buy Now, Pay Later could hit your credit score if you miss payments as new scoring models roll out. They also talk about dynamic pricing, where to expect the deepest markdowns (tech, toys, beauty, small appliances), and low-lift ways to track prices so you don't fall for “half deals.” Then, listener Shelby joins Sean and Elizabeth for a Budget Rehab using the 50/30/20 framework. They discuss right-sizing “needs” when housing is eating up a large chunk of take-home pay, ways to accelerate payoff on 20%+ APR cards (including a 0% balance transfer and when to combine multiple balances), and how to keep momentum while protecting essentials like a starter emergency fund and capturing a 401(k) match. They also cover fine-tuning wants so they take up less income, using side hustles to help with debt payoff, planning ahead for a 3-2-1 mortgage buydown reset and possible refinance, and simple tracking tactics that align spending with values. This conversation with Tommy A. Kilpatrick completely reframed how I see credit-card debt, banking systems, and financial sovereignty. Tommy shares how his $85,000 in "credit-card debt" mysteriously vanished after he took his case to federal court—without tax repercussions. He explains how modern banking practices create an illusion of debt, why language like "alleged credit-card debt" matters legally, and how you can reclaim your sovereignty by understanding financial fraud at its root. We also explore Tommy's decade-long vow of poverty, his spiritual awakening, and his current humanitarian work in the Philippines—teaching farmers to build bamboo domes, grow vertical gardens, and create self-sufficient communities. His vision for humanity is practical, creative, and profoundly spiritual. ✨ In this episode, we discuss: The spiritual transformation that led Tommy Kilpatrick to walk away from wealth What really happens behind the scenes in the credit-card system The language that binds us to financial illusions Sovereignty, faith, and the power of living by divine trust Tommy's blueprint for self-sustaining, debt-free communities If you're struggling with debt or yearning for true freedom, this episode offers a radical new perspective. I invite you to explore karagoodwin.com for my book Your Authentic Awakening, free meditations, and upcoming summits and workshops. Enjoy this illuminating conversation! Bio: Retired American living in the Philippines teaching farmers how to build dome structures with bamboo, vertical gardening, and to open free Self-Managed Health Care clinics. Born and raised in California. Double major: Abnormal Psychology and Accounting. Author, teacher, entrepreneur, 28 year marriage ended, became homeless (on purpose) and vow of poverty (for 10 years), living on farms on the East coast and walks in faith with God. Tommy A. Kilpatrick wrote a book on health and healing and in 2004 he signed an infomercial contract. For six months he was booked on radio shows as a test and used his three credit cards to survive. There was another author who got into trouble with the FTC and our infomercial company. The new talent's contracts were cancelled and he was stuck with $85,000 of credit card debt. He sued his three banks in federal court, by himself. Did he win? Cases were dismissed by the judge. Did he lose? Well, the alleged debt was removed from his credit report and there was no 1099-C sent to the IRS. Kilpatrick believes people are suffering under $1.3 trillion of bank-issued alleged credit card debt, which is not a debt and can be eliminated by the bank within 45 days.

We walk through the exact playbook we use to turn small, forgotten perks into big, tangible help—no coupon spreadsheets, no all‑day errands. We start with quick wins you can do tonight: send a hot meal using Uber, DoorDash, or Grubhub credits to a friend, a grandparent across the country, or a new parent who needs a break. Then we level up with the Amex Gold Dunkin credit, turning it into donut drops for local schools, fire stations, or hospital staff. For holiday gifting, we show how certain Chase cards' DoorDash pickup credits can buy third‑party gift cards through the Flower & Gift Boutique, often turning $10 of credit into $15 or $25 of spending power. Pair that with Chase Freedom rotating categories and you can fund Angel Tree or sponsored family gifts while maximizing rewards. If you plan to donate cash, don't miss airline partnerships that return miles for every dollar—Southwest Rapid Rewards and American Airlines often run strong promos—so your generosity fuels future trips too. We also highlight creative uses for credits like the Amex Platinum's Saks benefit and the Business Platinum's Dell credit to supply shelters and student programs with essentials. And yes, that old suitcase can do real good at a foster care agency. Our deepest dive is a step‑by‑step guide to using Chase co‑branded Instacart credits and Instacart Plus to buy exactly what local food banks request via Community Carts. We cover card activation links, stacking free Plus months, choosing a food bank, and a simple checkout routine that waives fees and adds a small tip. With a handful of cards, we donated over $120 of groceries with about $20 out of pocket—set it up once and repeat it monthly in under 15 minutes. If this helps, share it with a friend who hoards points, subscribe for more practical travel and points tactics, and leave a quick review so others can find the show. Tell us: which give‑back hack will you try first?

This week, our guest is the ever-delightful Adam Engst of TidBITS. In this episode, he explains what agentic web browsers are and what they are designed to do for you. Adam put five of them through their paces. I don't want to spoil the story, but he uses phrases like "full cuckoo", "daydreams in class", "hapless third graders", requiring "academic integrity referral", and "like a scared, insecure intern". In other words, it doesn't go well. As always. Adam has a full write-up on TidBITS in his article entitled, Can Agentic Web Browsers Count? P.M. Edition for Nov. 10. A settlement between merchants and Visa and Mastercard over interchange fees would let stores reject popular credit cards. WSJ reporter AnnaMaria Andriotis, who covers banking for the Journal, discusses why that's a big change in the industry that could change how often you use premium credit cards.
