A quel rythme ? What are the most important questions a business needs to ask itself, and what are the biggest barriers to change? In this episode, we explore how service design can help answer those important questions and be a force for change within any organization. Service design is a connector between the disciplines of UX design, UI design, product, engineering, customer experience, etc. While many of the principles of good service design aren't exclusive to service design, there is an emphasis on co-creation, iteration, people-centricity, and a holistic perspective. When we take a more holistic perspective, we design better experiences and better services. We avoid shipping our organizational charts (Conway's Law) and instead ship a delightful experience. But we can only do that when we break down the silos. Justin ZalewskiJustin is the Director of Product Design and Strategy at Studio Science where he leads a team of product designers and works with clients to solve business problems through design.

We cover his perspectives on lessening execution risk and creating stability through change, letting go of being a “technologist,” navigating the dilemma between macro and micro granularity in leadership, and building an innovation system.ABOUT KIT COLBERTKit Colbert joined VMware in September 2003 (following an internship in 2002) and currently serves as senior vice president and chief technology officer. Colbert joined VMware as the technical lead behind the creation, development and delivery of the vMotion and Storage vMotion features in VMware vSphere."What I try to focus on is, what's the outcome or the benefit that I'm looking for? And, you know, leaving the “how” as much as possible up to them. But I'm also open to being challenged and I find oftentimes that I don't really fully understand the space and the way that they do. And so I'm saying, ‘Here's kinda what we want and here's how I think we should do it.' But then they'll say, ‘No, that doesn't make sense here. When and where is it on? UXDX, the Irish-owned, fastest growing conference on Product in Europe, is taking place virtually on October 6th – 9th 2020. How many years has it been going? Now in its 5th year, the popular event gathers over 2,000 CTOs, CIOs, product managers, UX researchers, designers and developers together to share best practices on how teams adopt and change to improve product delivery in organisations. What exciting things can people look forward to? The UXDX Conference has worked to offer participants what physical events can’t, to give attendees more control. It is releasing 10 talks ‘Netflix-style’ each night for attendees to watch in their own time. This allows participants to get more involved in the interactive speaker sessions and workshops, where they can get answers to their burning questions and hone their skills. UXDX is facilitating easier networking, through curated ‘Birds of a Feather’ sessions and relevant 1-on-1’s, taking away the challenge of seeking out people with similar interests. To wrap it up the UXDX Conference has dedicated its fourth day to workshops and conversations, giving attendees the time to talk about what they have learned over the previous days. What opportunities are on offer for those attending? Up to 70% of companies will fail in their digital transformation efforts. This year, the team behind UXDX will provide a Continuous Learning programme for the 12 months following the conference with the aim to motivate people throughout the year and help teams follow through on their change initiatives while providing with tools and resources to assist with digital transformation journeys and company product goals. Since 2018, the UXDX community has run 30 global events, primarily in Europe and recently branching out to the US. Over 5,000 people have taken part in these mini-conferences focussing on city and region-specific success stories to help companies improve processes to accelerate product success. The programme will run on a monthly basis and will focus on the theme of ‘Transformation’ throughout the year due to the ever-changing challenges facing companies. The monthly workshops will focus on the three main categories that drive actions within organisations: People, Processes and Tools. Who will be speaking? Some of the top speakers include: Jeff Gothelf, Author of Lean UX and new book Forever Employable Lowell Goss, Head of Design & UX, Reddit Benoit Tepereau, VP of Product, Deezer Jeff Patton, Founder, JP Associates & Author of User Story Mapping Audrey Tsang, Chief Product Officer, Clue Peter Wang, CTO, Buzzfeed What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it? Prep in advance: Use the custom agenda tool to create your must-have wish list to get the most out of the debates and interactive sessions. Don’t worry about missing other sessions, videos will be ‘on-demand’, so you can revert back to those you missed after the conference for up to 6 months. Set learning goals: Prepare three learning goals for the conference and use these to leverage the 1,500+ audience in attendance to improve your knowledge through our UXDX Community on Slack, 1-1 sessions and workshops. How can people book tickets? Irish Tech News readers get a special 10% off tickets with the code IRISHTECHNEWS Tickets are available on the UXDX website here: More about Irish Tech News and Business Showcase here. Niestety 53 proc. kobiet pracujących w IT i aż 61 proc. pracujących poza nią uważa, że kobietom trudniej niż mężczyznom poradzić sobie w branży nowych technologii [Raport kobiety w IT (2018)]. Aga Naplocha projektantka i koderka, aktywnie wspierająca społeczności w branży IT. Welcome to Mediacurrent’s Open Waters podcast. A podcast about open source solutions. I’m Mark Casias, surrounded by my wonderful co-hosts, Bob Kepford… and Mario Hernandez. This episode we will be talking with the creative director here at Mediacurrent, Sheree Hill. With 15 years of award-winning agency experience, Sheree has been privileged to work with iconic brands including Harley-Davidson, AT&T, Kellogg’s Special K, Tupperware, Budweiser, The Home Depot, Toyota Scion, Listerine, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Southeastern Conference Sports, NCAA and Sony Pictures to create branded entertainment, rich media, games and interactive motion marketing and product sites. With our design team, has recently launched projects including Georgia Tech’s Workforce of the future and Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business. Pro Project Pick Open Source Design Animation Tool - Airbnb Lottie Animation Inspiration - Motion Corpse Interview Q: Tell us about yourself: What is your role? A: As Creative Director at Mediacurrent, I lead the design team in brand-led engagements, website, design and user experiences by practicing empathy and behavioral science. We practice design thinking use a component-based design process to create scalable web sites for higher education, non-profit and financial services verticals. Q: Tell me a little bit about the component-based design process. A: Component based design is unique in that the design elements are reusable and scalable rather than one-off designs. Our team is versed in building well-structured design systems, this means that we design on an atomic level, viewing each component and design element as a part of a larger whole. Often we base our designs on our basic install profile, which is a set of wireframes we have created that address standard content needs. Basic components, such as heroes, cards, accordions, left/right components are already wired out. We can use them as a base, which eliminates the need to duplicate prior efforts. It's transformed our process. Brands are intimate and have personalities. We create moodboards to set the tone of the digital brand extension. We perform discovery including UX and brand audits We ask questions. There is power in knowing which questions to ask. Our digital strategists partner with our UX designers to create iterative design. We rapidly prototype and map out MVP needs for components and lay out with matrix’s. Q: What is unique about designing for higher ed? A: If you’re on a marketing team for a university there are many unique challenges. There are multiple stakeholders (often more than the corporate clients we work with) with different goals and objectives. Design needs to appeal/solve problems for a larger stakeholder audience in higher ed because there are often agendas and priorities that are duplicative or competing. We solve this by doing a deep onsite discovery engagement where we get to know an institution’s unique set of needs. We have a team of developers, strategists and designers that work together at the onsite to have an understanding of what is needed, we practice agile methodology and partner with your team to co-create a scalable solution. Agile methodology typically works well in a higher ed project because of the dynamics and evolving discussions on requirements between various stakeholders. When it comes to search technologies, universities have deep repositories of data that they need to get into their students hands, we worked with USC Libraries to create bento box search functionality. Q: What are some development challenges that you see in implementing UI design from a development perspective for higher ed? A: Often times if the Design process is not in line with development this can create problems. If designs have not accounted for realistic content flow or placement on different device sizes, this can lead to poor performance, poor accessibility and poor user experience.  As you know our team of developers is brought into design discussions early to be able to identify potential problems. Solving these early on is a win-win for everyone, including clients. Q: What is your team studying right now? Our design and strategy teams are leveling up in psychology and persuasion certifications We learn and grow together. Importance of cross pollination (strategy and design) Our weekly design team check in allows us to discuss how we can apply the theory we’re learning to our current projects, in content strategy, UX design and art direction. Q: What is the importance of behavioral research in data driven design? A: When we understand why and how people make decisions, it informs our UX strategy and art direction. Understanding human needs informs and desires informs our content strategy through empathy and persuasion. So, if you’re a CMO at a university and wanting to focus on lead generation, it’s important to understand how to nudge visitors to sign up to visit your campus. You have to also keep in mind that not every visitor is a prospective student - some are faculty, staff, or donors. It’s critical to understand how each of these different personas interacts with a website. What’s motivating their action? When do they typically make decisions related to actions that impact a site’s KPIs? Understanding human biases and neuromarketing allows us to make a more compelling UX that will lead to conversions. Thanks for joining us Sheree! Check out the blog post reference in this podcast: Human Centered: Brand Intimacy in Emotional Design, and stay tuned for the next episode of Open Waters.

Speaker Danielle Szetho Type Live Conversation About this conversation London, Singapore, New York - these are the markets people think of when they think FinTech. They are rich in talent, have loads of capital, and are homes to some of the world's biggest financial institutions. However, for a tiny nation of 23m, Australia has a strong case to be a world-leading FinTech market. With almost 600 FinTech Startups and growing - more than Hong Kong and possibly even Singapore - Australia's rapidly maturing FinTech ecosystem is getting noticed, attracting strong investment from international VCs and Banks. FinTech Australia's CEO, Danielle Szetho, talks through the evolution of Australia's FinTech industry including the Fintech-friendly policy agenda that has helped it thrive. She also shares insights into Australia's unique FinTech strengths, where the world's FinTech leaders are focusing for the future, and the stories of Australian startups that are storming the world stage. Conversation notes - The Australian FinTech industry now represents 10,000 people. 16% of the start-up sector. - Venture capital increased from $450 million investment in the FinTech sector in 2014 to around $700 million in 2016 and it is still growing. - That’s 250% growth at a time when the rest of the world is going backwards by about 50% in terms ofFinTech investment. - Australia has a very well-regulatedFinTech environment. Forward thinking and very well regarded internationally. There is also a strong trend towards regulatory unification across the world. - Having such a regulated sector inevitably means that the cost for compliance is high. Many of these costs are manual processes that businesses are now using data technology to automate. - Australia has many other industries with similar compliance hurdles such as the medical and agricultural sectors. Australia is becoming increasingly well known for looking at how to leverage the intersections betweenFinTech and other industries. - Blockchain companies are starting to focus on usingFinTech applications for international remittances and trade finance and settlements. - Australian organisations are exploring the core capabilities we have across multiple industry verticals and putting them together to develop specialised niche applications which can also be sold internationally. More about Danielle Danielle Szetho is the CEO of FinTech Australia, the national FinTech industry association. She is dedicated to building a supportive and collaborative FinTech policy platform that will realise Australia's ambitions of being a world-leading market for FinTech innovation and investment. During her career she has cultivated a diverse set of skills from leadership roles in functions such as Strategy/Transformation, Business Development, Product Management, Data Analytics, Advertising/Marketing and Design/UX and it is this unique skill set that has led to the phenomenal success seen at FinTech Australia since its inception in 2016. Danielle is a member of the ASIC Digital Finance Advisory Committee and is on the Steering Committee for FinTech Victoria. She is also the FinTech Track curator for SPARK Festival Sydney and is a passionate advocate for Women in FinTech.
