This is the first of a three-part series entitled: Made in the Image, Growing in the Likeness.  This first part's title is: Being is Becoming: Why the Trinity is the Template of All Reality.  Marie Woods: Host of the "Everything You Need to Know in a Relationship" podcast and president/ founder of Life Above Foundation. In this enlightening episode, Marie and Doug discuss how the Trinity is the pattern for everything. Doug Scott's Bio Doug Scott, LCSW, works as a mental health counselor in his private practice in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from college in 1997, he served as an international volunteer for two years in Bluefields, Nicaragua. This intense experience changed his life and he returned to the US to pursue graduate studies in clinical social work and pastoral ministry at Boston College. The nexus of spirituality and psychology have always intrigued Doug since childhood and he brings this sensibility to his counseling practice. Doug Scott, LCSW, MA, grew up Catholic and was always drawn to the mystical lineage within this belief system. He had experiences with Jesus, Mary, and angels at an early age. His mystical inclinations have led him to seek the depth of things and teachers who inspire him, including: Richard Rohr, Cynthia Bourgeault, Ilia Delio, Teilhard de Chardin, Alfred North Whitehead, Jim Finley, and the lives of the Saints such as St. Francis of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Teresa of Avila, and Teresa of Lisieux. Doug sees the Trinity in everything and everywhere.  He sees how the living pattern of the Trinity provides the power for evolution in biology, psychology, and spirituality. For him, the Trinity is the codeword or abbreviated name of God. What is the long version? Something like this:  The Who-ing, the Why-ing, and the How-ing of Eternal Becoming. Finally, Doug felt called to develop an approach—a type of pedagogy—that attempts to identify the steps in transformation and how a counselor, spiritual director, or caregiver in any position can help someone else initiate and process through the path of wholeness-making.  This is the SH!PS Approach.    Presentation Outline: A. Law of Three B. Aware-Consciousness Principle C. Creative Principle D. Pan-Experientialism E. To Hold, To Heal, To Bless: Pan-Sacramentalism

What's wrong with Larry Abbot?  The radio star is having bouts of fear, perhaps a remnant of childhood trauma.  Otherwise, everything seems to be swell:  he's engaged to be married to his scene partner, the delightful Vickie Pearle.  But the radio show, hosted by the Manhattan Mystery Theater and lead sponsor Ralston-Purina are concerned about Larry's mental health, so they've hired Larry's Uncle Paul, a psychiatrist. to employ a radical cure that will rid Larry of his fears in no more than 36 hours.  And off go Larry and Vickie to Larry's ancestral stomping grounds, a palatial estate that bears a striking resemblance to, well, let's just say we've seen it before.  Just like the Abbot family butler, Pfister, and the maid, the diminutive Rachel – there's something familiar about them as well.  What's new are the cast of characters that assemble at the estate for Larry and Vickie's wedding – Larry's cousins Charles, Nora, Susan, and Francis Jr., all of whom seem to have ulterior motives of one kind of another, some of which may include death or inheriting the fortune of the family matriarch, Aunt Kate.  Will Larry and Vickie make it through the next couple days intact?  Will we, the audience, figure out what's really going on?  Maybe so, but we'll have to sit through all 82 minutes of this film to find out. Why being the best version of YOU will heal your parents ⬇️You were born to HELP your parents grow as your kids will help you to grow.✅ the patience✅ discipline✅ constant self reflection✅ being able to hold space To HEAL myself I went HARD on the shadow work of exploring my parents.I have had conversations with Dad about how we have almost punched on, both wanted to give up on life and why he wasn't around as a kid, why he left my Mum and words CANNOT describe the clarity and sense of self it has given me.I have discussed with my Mum EVERYTHING she has ever done to frustrate me and I now I know why, I don't get frustrated I can just show her love. Our parents as weird as it seems majority of the time do EVERYTHING out of love.No one taught them how to be a parent. No one taught them emotional intelligence or personal development.I feel WAY more mature than both of parents I tease them about it.But of course that will happen as their child I have learnt EVERYTHING they have needed to teach me at a really young age.So MY role as their child is to TAKE THE TORCH and SMASH any limiting beliefs they have had and sprint with it so far they have no choice but to reflect on how THEY can grow.Which I feel I have done already. When you understand you maturing is SUPPOSED to surpass your parents and help them to grow and YOU take on a parental figure for them…..You know you're on the right path.Because they need you to do that…… more than you could ever know. The only thing that prevents you from doing that is your own ego. Elder Rasband's powerful testimony of religious freedom fills his talk “To Heal the World.” Here are some questions to consider as you study: Are we allowing ourselves, members of our families and congregations, and all of God's children “the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of [their] own conscience?” Are we treating others as if God loves them as much as He loves us? Are we viewing the world with an “us vs. them” mentality? How can we stop? What is the Lord telling you? What questions do you want to study further? Questions? In this new series concerning "Family Matters," Apostle Theresa Harvard Johnson walks conservators through critical foundations that set the stage for understanding and receiving healing from the perspective Christ presented to the congregation, not from the perception of religious conclusions or men. We literally start afresh with one intention: "To set us free from the kind of family conflict that can stagnate our spiritual growth, development and block our ability TO HEAL.... and live out or freedom. 7 THOUGHTS OF TREASURE TO PONDER ON. 1. NOTHING WILL CHANGE IF YOU DO NOTHING BECAUSE GOD THE FATHER AND JESUS FINISHED THE FIRST PART OF THEIR WORK FOR MANKIND AND ARE RESTING AND WAITING FOR US TO DO SOMETHING .Revelation 3:21). 2. GOD HAS GIVEN US HIS WORD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR US TO EFFECT CHANGES. GOD AND JESUS ARE IN HEAVEN BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ON EARTH TO HELP US.Acts 10:38, Acts 20:32, John 14:16). 3. EVEN THOUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT IS HERE ON EARTH, HE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU WITHOUT AN INVITATION BECAUSE GOD GAVE THE EARTH TO MAN. Psalms 115:16). 4. WHEN WE PRAY, WE INVITE THE HOLY SPIRIT TO INTERVENE. JESUS PRAYED AND ALSO TAUGHT A PARABLE THAT MEN OUGHT ALWAYS TO PRAY AND NOT TO FAINT.Luke 18:1) 5. MAN HAS THE POWER TO STOP EVIL AND CORRUPTION ON EARTH. GOD HAS GIVEN US THE POWER, THE RIGHT AND THE PRIVILEGE. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO EFFECT CHANGES THROUGH PRAYER. Acts 1:8). 6. GOD'S POWER TO SAVE, TO HEAL, TO LIBERATE AND CHANGE A MAN'S WICKED HEART TO A HEART OF LOVE IS THE GOSPEL. THE GOSPEL IS THE POWER OF GOD FOR SALVATION. Romans 1:16). 7. THE GOSPEL IS THE ANSWER AND THE SOLUTION TO THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS. YOU CAN CHANGE THE DESTINY OF ANYONE THROUGH THE GOSPEL. IF YOU PREACH TO SOMEONE TODAY, YOU MIGHT JUST SAVE TODAY, SOMEONE THAT WOULD HAVE BECOME A PROBLEM TO THE WORLD IN THE FUTURE. IF WE SPREAD THE GOSPEL TO OUR TEENAGERS, YOUTHS TODAY, IT WIL CERTAINLY AFFECT THEIR CHOICES AND DESTINY TOMORROW.. AFFIRMATION. The Light of the glorious gospel of Christ is shinning in my path. I walk in the light of God's word. I walk in the light of my healings, I will walk in the light of my inheritance, blessings and prosperity in Christ. I walk in wisdom and I do not lack wisdom. I understand the word of God and I take my place to bring about peace and prosperity on earth. Thank you Lord for the revelation of your word. Amen. FURTHER QUOTES. "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:In whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.", 2 Corinthians 4:3 to 4).

SCANDALON    (Circumstances do not make you what you are … they reveal what you are!) Two people facing the same situation, but because of their choices the outcome can be so different.   Pastor George Lehman Our response to a scandalon determines our future – You will either live free or you will live in bondage. What is a scandalon: - It's the Greek word for “offend”, (Aanstoot gee) It refers to the part of the trap to which the bait is attached The word offend means: - a trap or a snare – stumbling block (struikelblok) Jesus said in Luke 17:1 (NKJV) – “It is impossible that no offences should come.” Explain a trap with the bait – It's not always visible We are all more than likely to take the bait many times in our lives. Offence is a tool of the devil to bring people into captivity Satan is not sitting in an armchair waiting for hell Paul warned – 2 Timothy 2:24-26 (NLT) – 24A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people's hearts and they will learn the truth. 26Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil's trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.  (Note verse 26) Because of hurts, bitterness, unforgiveness, quarrels, opposition, unresolved differences People fall into the trap/snare and are then held by the devil as a prisoner to do his will The devil wants to destroy relationships If he succeeds, he achieves a great victory – Why? Unity goes (where there is unity God commands a blessing) Joy and Peace goes Vision goes – Purpose goes The very essence of our calling losses impact The worst part is most times people are unaware of their captivity The saddest thing is to see a person so deceived He believes he is right even though he is not. Pride causes you to view yourself as a victim “I was mistreated and misjudged, therefore I am perfectly justified in my Attitude Behaviour Because you believe you are Innocent you hold back forgiveness Matthew 24:10-13 (NLT) – 10And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. 12Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13But the one who endures to the end will be saved.  (Notice verse 10 says :- Many, not a few – not some – But many) I believe one of the key ingredients that tests relationships; is offence. Can I just say this: - “We set ourselves up for offence” When we expect or require certain behaviours – from those whom we have relationships, those who proclaim to be children of God Listen: - The more we expect, the greater the “potential” offence Proverbs 18:19 (Amp) - “A brother offended is harder to be won over than a strong city and (their) contentions separate them like the bars of a castle!” Don't forget Jesus warned us that offence will come – Luke 17:1 “It is impossible that no offences should come.”   Did you know there are 4 stages of relationships? It's good to remember that:- People judge us by our actions, not our intention, (“Example, Diet” - You can't get thin on your intentions) “You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do.”  - Henry Ford Relationships don't just happen; you and I must make them happen. 4 Stages: Courtship / Fellowship Confrontation / Conflict – “Offence Zone” Growth / Maturity Multiplication Courtship/ Fellowship (Everybody is normal till you get to know them) Like the Honeymoon stage Confrontation Psalm 55:12-14 (NLT) – 12It is not an enemy who taunts me- I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me- I could have hidden from them. 13Instead, it is you-my equal, my companion and close friend. 14What good fellowship we once enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God. Confrontation requires boldness not arrogance Matthew 18:15(NLT) – “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.” Confrontation is an opportunity for forgiveness To Heal and Restore Relationships = our main aim. Think about this: - Any relationship within the family of God is going to be as good as you want it to be Romans 12:14-19 (NLT) – 14Bless those who persecute you. Don't curse them; pray that God will bless them. 15Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all! 17Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honourable. 18Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. 19Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say. “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Growth / Maturity This is when we do it God's way - not our own way Maturely loving one another in spite of our shortcomings Romans 15:1-2 (NLT) – We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. 2We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.   Multiplication This is when relationships are now mature enough to move on You can now encourage and be an example to others And thereby develop other meaningful relationships Never before in History as in the 21st Century Has knowledge increased in the church at the rate it is. But with all this increased knowledge We seem to experience: - More divisions among believers and leaders More hurts and bitterness and unforgiveness More couldn't care-less attitudes toward relationships 1 Corinthians 8:1 (Amp) - Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up and encourages one to grow (to his full stature) If we keep Jesus as our main focus and the Love of God as our Motivation In all we do or say, we will not fail. Love Never Fails 1 Corinthians 13:5,8a (Amp) - 5Love is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride), it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly.  Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way for it is not self-seeking, its not touchy or fretful or resentful, it takes no account of the evil done to it (it pays no attention to a suffered wrong). Verse 8(a): Love Never Fails   1 Peter 4:8 (Amp) - Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins (forgives and disregards the offences of others). Close with: Philippians 1:9-10 (NLT) – 9I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ's return.

About 70% of people have parasites living in their body today. Are you one of them? There’s a misconception that parasites are only found in developing countries or exotic places. The truth is that parasites are everywhere. They are on the food you buy at the grocery store, on your pets, and in the lakes and rivers you splash around in during the summer. Even though they are so prevalent, most people have no idea they are living with them. Today Dr. Jessica Peatross - board-certified hospitalist turned functional medicine leader - joins us to discuss these stealthy infections. Dr. Jess is a true visionary for the future of healthcare and is committed to uncovering the root causes of the diseases people are living with. Her approach to medicine is both inspiring and encouraging and I know you're going to learn so much from this episode. Stay tuned as we dive into what exactly parasites are, the most common symptoms that hint at them and protocols for parasite testing and cleansing. Enjoy! Episode Highlights:  4:27 Why Dr. Jess quit her job at a conventional hospital  7:02 A startling statistic about how common parasites are 9:08 Where parasites choose to live in your body 10:33 Common symptoms of parasites  12:56 How parasites are harming your body 16:05 What parasites need to thrive in your body 20:02 Conventional vs functional approaches to parasite testing  22:03 When it might be a good time to do a parasite cleanse 26:02 How to prepare for a cleanse  28:15 What a parasite cleanse actually looks like 30:39 The best ways to support your body while cleansing 35:14 How to know when you’re done cleansing 37:53 Supporting your gut wall during a cleanse 40:23 Managing parasites and pregnancy 43:32 Treating worms and parasites in your eyes 44:01 Helping your child work through parasites 45:27 When Epstein Barr can become most prevalent in your body 48:54 What Dr. Jess looks like when testing for Epstein-Barr  50:39 How to address EBV and other relating factors 53:29 Get in contact with Dr. Jess Links and Resources:  Dr. Jess’ Website Dr. Jess on Instagram Genova Diagnostics Diagnostics Solutions  CellCore Guest Bio: Dr. Jess is a former hospitalist, internal medicine based medical doctor and a certified Gerson Practitioner. She is an expert in the areas of stealth infections, environmental toxicity, regenerative medicine, ozone, and cannabis. Her passion lies in uncovering the mystery behind the chronic illness, whether that be stealth infections, heavy metals, stress/trauma or other environmental toxicities. There are real, root cause answers for WHY the body might be malfunctioning.  Trained in medicine at the University of Louisville, Dr. Jess experienced what many of her patients experienced: deep anxiety, hormonal imbalances, and adrenal dysfunction. She sought answers to uncover the root cause of disease – something she thought she had learned in medical school. After working as an M.D. in a hospital for 6 years, Dr. Jess realized that she needed to investigate alternatives to today’s modern medical industry, which “treats every ill with a pill.” She became trained in Gerson Therapy, functional medicine, nutrigenomics, and ozone in her efforts to help her patients with chronic disease solutions. She now is an expert in the field of Lyme, parasites and the health hazards of mold. She is an international keynote speaker with her own former line of Dr Jess products. Recently Dr. Jess made the choice not to continue her board certification with the AMA as she no longer practices pharmaceutical-based medicine and is able to get to the root cause TO HEAL people without the need for narcotics, immunosuppressants, antidepressants, antibiotics, or steroids. It all begins with making that quarter turn in our lives. Removing the veil- the mask - that separates us. Letting our guard down a little, surrendering a little more. Allowing the healing waters of forgiveness to seep in so that love may prevail. May we all Find the will and strength to turn, when we need TO FORGIVE, TO HEAL, TO LOVE.

Mark is delighted to welcome Jewish public intellectual, attorney and author, Jonathan Neumann, to the podcast today. A graduate of Cambridge University and the London School of Economics, Jonathan has been a fellow at Commentary magazine and has served as assistant editor at Jewish Ideas Daily. He is also the author of To Heal the World? How the Jewish Left Corrupts Judaism and Endangers Israel, and he discusses this book along with his selected passage of Numbers 14:22 with Mark here today. Jonathan begins the conversation with his summary of the passage, its meaning for him, and his perspective on the ten tests mentioned within it. He and Mark also discuss the most important event from the passage, the consequences for slandering the land of Israel, women as the great Zionists, and the choice between serving Pharaoh or serving God. Jonathan also offers a glimpse into his new book and its exploration of the concept of ‘tikkun olam’, and he draws the conversation to a close with the lessons he has learned about mankind which hold particular relevance for the world today. This is a discussion which touches upon the very nature of the Torah and Judaism. Episode Highlights: Jonathan’s summary of the passage and what it means to him His perspective on the ten tests The most important event Slandering the land of Israel and the punishment for it Women as the great Zionists The choice between serving Pharaoh or serving God Jonathan’s new book and its exploration of ‘tikkun olam’ The lessons about mankind that Jonathan has learned Finding the truth in what others are saying Quotes: “Clearly, at a basic level, the test of the spies is somehow the culmination.” “The entire point of this whole exercise, from Exodus on, was to create a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation in the Promised Land. And God said, ‘Now, go do it’, and they totally blow it.” “If you don’t have the courage and the strength to follow God’s directive…how are you going to do in the Promised Land? Not very well, so therefore God says, ‘It’s the next generation’.” “If Moses had sent women, there would have been a different result…the great Zionists are usually the women.” “Judaism makes no sense without Israel.” “I’m going to make my relationship with the next generation.” “You have a choice basically, you can be servants to Pharaoh and to the hubris of man, and a life with no meaning, or you can, in the Jewish world view, or the biblical world view, you can serve God instead and have a life with meaning, and that service…has to take place in the land of Israel. That is the whole point.” “There is no basis for that contention that this understanding of tikkun olam as social justice has no basis in traditional Judaism.” “Tikkun olam doesn’t appear a single time in the Bible, which is extraordinary.” “Theologically, ultimately in the world view of Judaism, Judaism is meant to be done in the land of Israel.” “I think it’s important that we all try to get out of our rigidity a bit and try to learn what there is to learn from the ‘others’.” Numbers 14:22 none of the men who have seen My Presence and the signs that I have performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and who have tried Me these many times and have disobeyed Me, https://www.sefaria.org/Numbers.14.22?lang=bi&with=all&lang2=en Links: The Rabbi’s Husband homepage: http://therabbishusband.com/ Mark’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/markgerson?lang=en

We all have wounds that still need to heal. But did you know mental wounds are just like physical wounds in the sense that we have to stop touching them to let them heal? In this week’s episode our quote to ponder is “To Heal a Wound you have to Stop Touching It”. Wise words but hard to do sometimes. We know and can see the effects of touching a physical wound. We watch it become irritated and not heal quickly. Listen this week as we talk about how our mental wounds can be healed the same as our physical ones; if we stop touching them and we stretch our minds to figure out how we can do this.

Epi.21 Healing by the Authority and Power of Jesus the Lord. Jesus’ Healing Works points to GOD's Love for the Human Race, to his people, his children of whom we are included by GOD's Grace through Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior. You see Jesus Healing Works points to Something Greater. And that is the demonstration of GOD's LOVE for YOU; Jesus Works was born out of His Love, His Compassion for your deliverance, for your Healing, why be stubborn with unbelief? why dismiss the healing ministry of Jesus Christ? I want to encourage you to abort every doubts in your heart, and know by Faith that Jesus Healing Ministry is still well and alive TODAY, it has been passed on to His children who are prepared and anointed by GOD's WILL to preach the Good News of GOD's Kingdom, and is still ALIVE TODAY. JUST as Jesus is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever! Read, Matthew 14:14 - Earlier, Matthew summarizes Jesus’ early ministry in the following way, Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were sick with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and JESUS healed them ALL. Read Mathew 4:23-24 Recognize that the Healing Ministry of Jesus is alive today, just as he passed on to His Twelve Disciples; and to ALL future believers in Jesus Christ the LORD, as the LORD has willed. Jesus Healing Ministry passed onto the Twelve (Matthew 10:7-8) and the Seventy, whom Jesus send them out to continue his works sending them out Two and Two - Read Luke 10. These dimensions in the inspirations within the Light of Jesus Healing Ministry can be organized into three distinct dimensions of GOD's Will for You and Me 1. To Heal the Human Body 2. To Deliver people away from the kingdom of satan, and 3. To Declare, Proclaim or Evangelize the Kingdom of GOD Jesus Works in Healing the Human Body, closely parallels the work of the Levitical priests charged with inspecting diseased persons. Contrary to the OT order, when Jesus touched a leper, his “cleanness” made the unclean leper clean, not vice versa. His proclamation of the kingdom echoes the call of the OT prophets to turn away from idols and other god-substitutes and to return to the Lord. His ministry of deliverance illustrated his power over spirits and is in the same category as calling upon the wind and rain to be at peace. Notice that each of these elements illustrated that he is a king with authority of a new kingdom. “If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you” (Matthew 12:28). Jesus works in Healing, in the demonstration of His AUTHORITY and POWER ultimately directs our Faith Clearly to our eternal destiny—pointing to the day when all things be made perfect or when all things will be set to right. The LORD Jesus Works of Miracles set things toward our future perfection in his eternal glory, to put to right all things for His purpose and GLORY; to consummate restoration of all things as he will. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/boaz-kinsman/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/boaz-kinsman/support

President Donald Trump has moved the United States Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem; he has recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights; members of his own family are Jewish and he has forcefully spoken out against anti-Semitic comments by some elected Democrats. So of course, the American Jewish community has embraced him... Not quite. Regardless of whether or not this administration has worked on behalf of traditional Jewish interests, many Jews feel strongly that its actions are antithetical to Jewish values. And what are the values of many American Jews? Any answer to that question will inevitably put tikkun olam—the Hebrew term for “repairing the world”—close to the top of the list. Last year, Jonathan Neumann wrote To Heal the World?, which attempted to deconstruct what tikkun olam means in practice, and debunk the lazy but all-too-common perception that Jewish values and progressive politics are one and the same. (You can listen to Neumann discuss his book here.) In this podcast, Neumann joins Tikvah’s Jonathan Silver for a discussion about conservatism, liberalism, and Jewish politics. He looks at the dangerous rise of Jeremy Corbyn in the United Kingdom, explains the causes of Israel’s shift to the Right, and systematically exposes the why American Jews’ traditional progressivism is bad for Jewish religion, Jewish peoplehood, and the Jewish state. Musical selections in this podcast are drawn from the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 31a, composed by Paul Ben-Haim and performed by the ARC Ensemble. This podcast was recorded in front of a live audience at the Tikvah Center in New York City.

Herman Bianchi (1924-2015) In 1992, as a result of an introduction from Ivan Illich, I visited Norwegian criminologist Nils Christie in Oslo and recorded several days of interviews that would be broadcast the following year as “Crime Control as Industry.” This set off an unexpected chain of consequences which kept me for a nearly a decade preoccupied with the question of crime and punishment. A number of series already posted on this site reflect this interest. They include, as well as the aforementioned “Crime Control as Industry,” “Prison and Its Alternatives” (1996), “To Hurt and To Heal,” (2000") and “In Search of Security” (2004). One of the most interesting books I came across during these amateur forays into criminology was Justice as Sanctuary by Dutch criminologist Herman Bianchi. It was first published in English in 1994 and has, happily, been kept in print by Wipf and Stock who republished it in 2010. At the time the book appeared in the English-speaking world, Bianchi was one of many thinkers who were then questioning the cruelty and irrationality of modern criminal justice “systems.” What I found striking in his work was his recuperation of Biblical concepts of justice and mercy, and his pointing out that monolithic conceptions of law are of relatively recent date. William Blackstone, for example, writing in his 18th Century Commentaries on the Laws of England says that ten different bodies of law were then in force in England, each exerting distinct but overlapping jurisdictions. The types of law he mentions range from the “divine law” to the “law merchant.” The right of sanctuary from which Bianchi’s book takes its title is a case in point. Churches afforded sanctuary because within their walls the divine law applied, not the criminal law. From such a sanctuary someone who had committed a wrong could attempt to negotiate restitution and settlement. The contemporary offender stands in the dock without initiative or dignity. The fact that he or she has committed a personal wrong that might in some way be remedied hardly matters - it is “society” and its monolithic law that must be satisfied. I was fascinated by Bianchi’s book, and, in the spring of 1997, I arranged to interview him. He received me, very hospitably, in his snug converted farmhouse in Friesland, a northern province of The Netherlands. There over two days as his guest I recorded the interviews that make up this series. It was broadcast in the fall of that year. Herman Bianchi died in 2015. I never met him again and never really found out what he thought of the programs I made. It seems to me that they remain as interesting and challenging today as they were twenty years ago.

Feeling challenged by the limitations of her training to respond effectively to the isolating effect of this young girl’s childhood trauma, Pilar decided to take an unconventional treatment approach. She invited her friend Lama Pema, a kind Tibetan Buddhist monk, who had also experienced his own life-shaping trauma at a very young age into their sessions. Here's the latest in the Sunday Morning Music series.  And as usual it follows a similar path to its predecessors - little bit of quiet vocals, little bit of jazz, little bit of classical, little bit of everything. The first track in the mix is from DeYarmond Edison, which is Justin Vernon's first band from 2005.  Vernon is the man behind Bon Iver.  He's a fellow Wisconsonite that hit the big time with his For Emma album back in 2007.  I discovered the DeYarmond Edison album while doing some Bon Iver research and found that it is an excellent album.  Vernon is also a member of Volcano Choir, which has a cut in this mix as well.  I have a Justin Vernon mix in the works.  It will feature his music along with music from the many artists he has connections with. As much as I like that first track, the highlight of this mix for me is the Kate Bush tune, Snowflake, from her wonderful album, 50 Words for Snow.  She sings the song from the point of view of a snowflake,  I only used about half of the song in the mix. A couple of others favorite tunes in this mix are Ladder in Place from rf, very bright and happy.  I have always loved the Underworld cut, To Heal and used it as part of the title for this installment of the Sunday series.  And finally, the Daryll Hall tune at the end from his offbeat collaboration with Robert Fripp is another fav. Other mixes on the horizon include a space rock mix, ambient dub, breathing, time dilation, Americana,  sea music and the previously mentioned Justin Vernon Family Tree mix.
