Tesla's Cybertruck just got seized in the UK, and here's why it won't be coming back. First, it's too heavy—at 3.1 tonnes, most UK drivers need a special license. Second, its sharp edges violate pedestrian safety laws. Third, the LED light bar fails six UK regulations. And that ultra-rigid 30X steel? It makes crashes far more dangerous. Tesla knew all this but built it anyway. Was the UK market ever part of their plan? Daily Dose of Hope June 17, 2024 Day 2 of Week 12 Scripture: Deuteronomy 10-14; Psalm 5; Luke 8 Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the daily devotional and podcast that complements New Hope Church's Bible reading plan. We have a lot of Scripture to cover today so let's get started. We are going to start by walking through the passages in Deuteronomy chapter by chapter. Let's start with Deuteronomy 10. What does God ask of his people? He asks them to be obedient. The Lord of all, the one who put the stars in the sky and put the planets into motion, is the same God who chose Israel to be his people. He has chosen to reveal himself to a particular group of people, the Israelites. There wasn't anything particularly special about the people. Afterall, they were people like you and me. They messed up and sinned over and over again. Their brokenness was evident. But God chose this group of people to call his own. The one who created the entire cosmos was the one who showed up among this stiff-necked people. This chapter gives us a glimpse into the heart of God. Though he is Lord of Lords, all powerful and all knowing, he is also the God who cares about the orphans, the widows, and the oppressed. He has chosen a particular group of people to form into a holy nation. Though they are a mess and he often gets frustrated with them, he continues to be faithful. How have you seen the faithfulness of God in your own life? Now, let's move on to chapter 11. Heartfelt obedience would be required for the people of God to drive out the people groups currently residing in the promised land. Simply going through the motions, engaging in religious ceremony, and professing faith would not be enough. They needed to seek relationship with God through love, obedience, and steadfastness. When they did this, all the land would be theirs. Obviously, our circumstances are different. Obviously, we live on the other side of the cross under a new covenant. But as people, are we all that different? Don't we also simply go through the motions sometimes, professing religious faith but not really loving God? How often do we engage in religious ritual without connection and obedience to a holy God? After thousands of years, God is still seeking an intimate relationship with us, one that is marked with love, obedience, and steadfastness. He wants to be the center of our lives. Take some time today and think about the Israelites, just as they are on the cusp of entering the promised land. How are you different from them? How are you similar? Chapter 12 offers some more review of how the Israelites are to worship. After commanding the removal and destruction of idols, we now move on to where and how God must be worshiped. The worship of the one true God was to look very different from the worship of pagan idols. It was to be in a place chosen by God himself. It was to be in one place alone and there God would take up residence. This would be God's tabernacle, his temple, among his people. Throughout the Old Testament, God dwells in a specific place. His presence is found in the tabernacle and then eventually the temple in Jerusalem. Obviously, God is omnipotent and can be everywhere all at once. But for his people, that specific place was holy. It was a beautiful picture of God's presence among them. When Jesus came, he became the temple. He was the very presence of God. Once Jesus ascended to heaven, the Holy Spirit was given to the church. Now, the presence of God resided within the people. If you have said yes to Jesus, then the Spirit of the Living God lives within you! I find it amazing and spectacular how God continues to do a new thing among his people. Now, we can definitely say that the presence of God is here with us. We don't have to go to a specific building. God's presence is closer than our very breath. There is no place we can go where God's presence is not. Chapter 13 presents several scenarios about what to do if strangers, loved ones, or whole communities tried to tempt them to worship other gods. No matter who does the tempting, the answer is always the same. Don't do it and get rid of the culprit, even if it is a loved one. No one is allowed to tempt them to worship false gods. The consequences for doing so should be swift and severe. God clearly knows his people. He knows they will be tempted to worship false idols. If we look at the course of Biblical history, idolatry was eventually the undoing of the Israelites. Most of us have a hard time imagining bowing down to a medal statue representing a god or a golden altar to some false deity. And yet, we have to be very careful here. Our false gods are less obvious but still present. Far be it from us to think we are somehow better than the Israelites. After all, we worship money, power, technology, sports, our children's activities, our own hobbies, and our own families, among many other things. Anything at all that we put before God is an idol and if we are honest, we put a lot before God. What kinds of things are you tempted to put before God? How can you reprioritize your life to right this wrong? And finally, chapter 14. Most of this chapter details the food laws and tithing. But why are there specific rules regarding which foods the Israelites could eat? Well, because they are the children of God, a holy people, and God chose them to be set apart from the other people groups of the world. The separation between pure and impure animals simply is a reflection of the separation that God's people have with the rest of the world. God is clearly forming a unique people. We've discussed this whole idea of holiness before but it certainly bears repeating. Holiness means being unique and set apart. Something that is holy is cut off from other things, in a class of its own. But that which is holy is also morally pure. One of the defining characteristics of God is his holiness. God is both totally pure and without sin and also like nobody else, in a class separate from all other classes. God called on the Israelites to become a holy people, set apart from all the people groups of the world. It says in Lev. 19:2, "...Be holy because I, the Lord God, am holy." They were to look differently, act differently, and be morally pure. Obviously, the Israelites were not going to be without sin because they were human beings but they were to make every attempt to avoid sin and atone for their sins regularly. So where does that leave us? In the New Testament, the Greek word for holy is hagios and it comes from the same root word as saint or sanctified. Just as Jesus Christ is holy, we as his followers are also to seek holiness. I Peter 1:14-16 reads, "As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” In New Testament language, being holy is also to be set apart but not to be separate, to be in the world but not of it. Our lives are to be characterized by holiness: we are to look different from the culture around us, we are to seek moral purity, and work toward sanctification. To be sanctified is to become more and more like Jesus. One might even go so far as to say that to become holy is to become like Jesus. Do you think of your life as holy? Why or why not? Be sure to read the Psalm today but we aren't going to have much discussion around it. It is another Psalm of David. He is once again pleading with God for protection against enemies and for God to bless the righteous. What are your thoughts about David's big ask? Let's move on to Luke 8. There is so much great stuff in this chapter. There is no way that I can touch on all of it. We have some pretty significant healings – the bleeding woman, the sick girl, and the man filled with demons. Jesus also calms the storm, leaving his disciples almost speechless, “Who is this man, they ask?” But I want to spend just a little time on the parable. This is the parable of the sower. Jesus says that a farmer goes out to sow seeds. But the farmer doesn't worry so much about where he is throwing the seeds. He seems to be pretty indiscriminate with his seed-throwing. He is literally just throwing seed everywhere. Some of the seed falls right on the path, where all the people walked and the soil was hard and had been packed down. The birds ate most of that seed. Some of the seed fell in rocky places (there are lots of rocky places in that part of the world) and while it would sprout, the soil was shallow, and there wasn't enough root for the plant to survive. Some fell among thorns, and the thorns were invasive and took over. The plants had no real chance of survival there. But then some seeds fell on good soil, which produced an amazing crop---100, 60, or 30X what was sown. So, here's the question: what is Jesus trying to teach us here? First, I think it's important for us to not dwell on the different kinds of soils too much. I think one of our first temptations is to go, I know someone who is like that soil, and then that group of people are like this soil, and so forth. We'll get to the soil but I want us to start with what is most important. Who is the star of the story? Well, the farmer or the one who is sowing the seed. He throws that seed everywhere–he is generous with the seed, throwing it everywhere there is any chance it might take root. Friends, we are the sowers. We are the ones called to throw seed. What's the seed we are supposed to be throwing around? Well, the Good News of Jesus Christ of course. Jesus is calling us to sow extravagantly. We aren't supposed to decide who to share our faith with. No, we are truly to share our faith, in word and deed, with everyone. This is so important. We aren't just supposed to share Jesus with those in our congregation, with our friends who are “safe.” We are supposed to be kind of reckless, sharing the love of Jesus Christ, sharing our faith story, telling people the source of our hope, with all kinds of people: people who don't look like us, people who we don't know and people we do know. If God has brought us to a certain place, a certain store, a certain vacation spot, a certain meeting---we trust that there is a greater purpose. Another thing we learn is that God gives up on no one and neither should we. We just keep sowing. As the sower, we truly have the desire for all the soil to bear fruit. That's why we keep throwing those seeds, having those conversations, offering to pray for someone, telling people how much Jesus loves them. God loves all people, we are called to love all people. Remember that love of God and love of others cannot be separated. They are intricately linked. But we have to recognize that some soil has had people trample on it. It has not been nourished, it might be filled with rocks. It may take years to get to the point in which the soil can bear fruit. I read that to gets soil just right, really nourished, it can take years. And it usually means continuing to add nourishment to it, continuing to add things to it to develop it and enrich it so that it can be fruitful. People are no different. We love on people, we pray for them, we tell them Jesus loves them. We listen to their stories. We ask questions. And this could go on for years. But we don't give up on anyone because God doesn't give up on anyone. We trust that God is at work in ways we can't see or understand. We trust that God is working behind the scenes to nourish the fields, to strengthen the roots. Is there someone you have given up on? Remember, God isn't done with any of us yet! For the rest of this week, friends, you will hear Pastor Lavetta. She is completing this week for me. She is absolutely wonderful and I know you will be blessed. You will hear from me again on Sunday. Have a wonderful day! Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Underneath the word NEBRASKA is the entire state outline of Nebraska exactly like a map. The only difference from a map is on the left side of the state there's a white cane instead of a straight line and on the northwestern border there is another white cane instead of a line. At the end of the strap of the white cane, the map continues along the river as it naturally would. The river continues all the way down to the southeast border of the state. In the middle of the west side of the state are the historic rolling sand hills, which are covered by prairie grasses. These sand hills are replicated by small wavy tactile hills as a nod to this critical and historic portion of the state, which supports the cattle industry. Starting in the middle to the right side of the print are three huge stalks of corn. Last year, Indians collectively drank nearly 600 million litres of energy drinks. This was almost 30X more than 2018. Among all the go to drinks in India, lately energy drinks have become super popular. People seem to clearly be attracted to their appeal as stimulants. And what's crazy is that these drinks have become an alternative to chai at tea stalls for office goers. And even for daily wage workers who have to work in this insane heat, they are often a cheaper meal replacement. For the more privileged, they're also cocktail mixers at parties. As of 2023, PepsiCo's Sting had 90% of the market share in energy drinks in terms of volume. It's been doing so well that Varun Beverages, the company that bottles and distributes for PepsiCo in India, became the hottest FMCG stock in the country. Its saw its share price rise by more than 1000% per cent in the last five to six years. But the ones driving this growth are the country's youth, who are often unaware of the contents of the drink and the heath risks that come along with it.Tune inDaybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. It was November of 1939 and the country of Finland was staring down the barrel of a war machine of unimaginable power. Only three months before the German forces, led by Adolf Hitler, had invaded Poland, triggering a declaration of war. Now, the people of Finland were facing their own war with the Soviet Army lead by Joseph Stalin. They had rejected a proposal from the Soviet Union to move some of their shared border, give up some of their land, tear down their fortifications, and lease a Peninsula to build a military base. As the Soviets prepare to strike no one believes the skirmish would last more than 2 weeks. The Soviets had 3X more soldiers, 5X more artillery, 30X more aircraft, and 100X more tanks. On paper this would be a rout. And little more than a blip on the radar of world history. Source: Canada's Venture Capital Landscape Report (2023) — BDCObjectiveThe venture capital landscape is a dynamic and ever-evolving environment, where success is measured not only by achieving high valuations but also by generating strong returns for investors. As we saw companies climb Mount Everest to unicorn statuses in the past 18 months, many failed to get back down safely to survive. It is imperative for Canada to ensure transparency in venture capital returns to remain globally competitive. Open dialogues on challenges and strategies are part of this effort. The aim is to disseminate insights, equip other fund managers with valuable knowledge, and bolster Canada's standing in the global venture capital sphere. This collective effort has the potential to drive Canadian startups forward and attract international capital and talent to this burgeoning ecosystem. In Canada, the federal government has been influential in creating a conducive environment for startups and venture capital, through initiatives such as the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and the Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI). These efforts have proven crucial in supplying public funding to draw in private sector capital and kickstart the Canadian VC ecosystem. The significant contribution of these programs in laying the groundwork for a sustainable and competitive startup ecosystem globally is acknowledged and appreciated. Without such support, a number of companies and funds could face substantial hurdles in launching and realizing their full potential. The federal government's dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship has played a major role in developing the Canadian startup ecosystem. The 2023 Venture Capital Landscape Report by BDC revealed data on Distribution to Paid-In capital (DPI) Across Vintages, indicating that the upper quartile of Canadian funds from pre-2011 to 2013 recorded a 1.2x DPI. This contrasts with the 2.0x DPI of U.S. incumbent funds during the same period, as reported by Cambridge Associates. This difference illustrates the distinct market dynamics that characterized the less mature Canadian venture capital sector during this time. However, since then, Canada's ecosystem has seen substantial growth, reflected in an increased number of venture funds and startups, and overall improved performance. Notably, most of the active venture funds in Canada, including Ripple Ventures, have been established in the past 5–7 years, underlining the recency of this expansion. While we acknowledge that not all venture capital funds wind down after the traditional 10-year period and extensions can occur, a strategy that funds can take to protect the performance over the life of the fund is to return at least the original capital within the first 6–7 years. This approach allows for sufficient time and opportunities to graduate the portfolio and reduce the entire reliance on unpredictable outliers of breakout companies alone to return the fund. This strategy increases the chances of moving from a 1x to 3x+ return within the remaining 3–5 years. As such, we want to cover two general approaches to achieving a 3x fund. The first relies solely on 1–2 outlier investments that generate significant returns in the final years while having minimal returns in the earlier stages. The second approach involves consistently returning capital throughout the fund's lifecycle, allowing the mediocre outcomes to return the original capital and for the winners to drive true profit. We believe that the latter approach is more sustainable and favorable. While the former approach can be challenging, requiring a consistent scale of exits and various factors to align perfectly, our belief is that consistent capital returns across the portfolio create a higher probability to outperform over the long run. At Ripple, we personally invest a significant portion of our net worth into our funds, making us very aligned with our limited partners to strive not only for homerun outcomes but also to return our own original investment. Our goal is to open up the discussion of fund performance, key drivers of winning strategies, and how we can put Canada as a winner on the global stage. By highlighting benchmarks and sharing insights from our journey, we aim to contribute to the broader conversation about driving enterprise value in Canada. We recognize the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in building a strong ecosystem, and we are committed to playing our part in its development.Union Square Ventures — the gold standard for DPIBefore diving into the details, we want to establish the gold standard DPI benchmark that every fund should strive to achieve. Recent returns data from the University of Texas Endowment, as highlighted by Eric Newcomer's blog, has captured attention. Union Square Ventures has demonstrated exceptional performance, delivering 9x DPI cumulatively across all their funds. Their 2012 vintage fund, with a DPI of nearly 23x, stands as one of the best-performing funds of all time. These extraordinary returns showcase Union Square Ventures' track record of staying focused on key themes, investing only with high conviction, acquiring material ownership, and keeping fund sizes small to be able to consistently return capital to LPs.Source: University of TexasRipple's DPI performance relative to incumbents Ripple Ventures has established an early track record in our angel portfolio since 2012 (we call this Fund 0) currently at 6.5x DPI. Although Fund 0 was an angel portfolio with a smaller quantum of capital (which is easier to return), it is worth noting that our success is not solely reliant on one outlier investment to drive strong returns. Instead, we have strategically managed a portfolio including three of ten investments achieving at least 10x cash-on-cash returns (with the highest returning 30X). We have personally recycled a majority of this capital to jumpstart Fund I and attract external limited partner capital for our venture funds. We continue to build on our track record with Fund I (2019 Vintage) with a DPI of 0.5x. Again, Fund I was also a smaller fund compared to most at $10M which makes it much easier to return than a $200M fund like USV's. Considering the limited maturity of the 2019 vintage, it is important to acknowledge the current challenging market cycle and the pressure for funds to generate significant returns despite the bleak outlook for exits in the near future. As we approach the halfway mark of the fund's life, if the original capital has not yet been closer to being returned, there is still a long hard way to achieve a 3x+ DPI.When comparing to US incumbents, upper quartile returns were: 2.61x DPI (2011), 1.90x DPI (2012), and 1.48x DPI (2013) respectively according to the latest US Venture Captial return reports. The average DPI across the 2011–2013 vintage is 2.00x DPI, 67% higher than its Canadian counterparts. There is a stark difference between the median performance of top quartile funds in Canada vs the US. In the 2019 vintage, Ripple Ventures is categorized in the top 5% of funds based on DPI in the US so far. While Ripple Ventures Fund I is still in its early stages and hasn't achieved a 3x+ return yet, we approach this journey with humility, dedication, and empathy. We understand the uncertainties of the venture capital landscape and the possibility that we don't continue to exceed expectations. However, we are committed to diligently managing our portfolio, making informed decisions, and striving to deliver exceptional returns. With transparency and empathy at our core, we will continue to navigate the evolving market dynamics to create long-term value for our investors. Our view on what drives DPI, and differences in Canada vs the USOwnership and exit value play crucial roles as the primary drivers of DPI in venture capital funds. You need to have at least one or the other to drive returns, and in the best cases, you have both. For example, if you have a $50M fund, you need to own 20% of a $250M exit, or 1% of a $5B exit to return the fund ($50M). Let's take a look at another graph in the BDC report around median exit values to understand better why DPI may be different in Canada vs the US:Source: Canada's Venture Capital Landscape Report (2023) — BDCYou can see there's a very evident difference in the historic outcomes of companies in each country. According to PitchBook, the average exit value for US venture-backed startups was approximately $207M USD in 2019, $263M USD in 2020, and $391M USD in 2021. These are multiples higher than the Canadian counterparts. Although this is the case, we want to acknowledge the potential for creating global winners in Canada, such as Shopify and Lightspeed (public companies), as well as notable private outcomes like Wattpad's acquisition by Naver for 754 million CAD and Verafin's sale to Nasdaq for 2.75 billion USD in cash. It is crucial to highlight the potential for Canada to create companies of this scale, but recognize the lower frequency in which this occurs. By learning from and comparing ourselves to the best in the world, particularly the United States, we can identify the strategies and practices that contribute to their success. Why Ripple is investing in both Canada and the US Ripple Ventures recognizes the tremendous potential of the Canadian startup ecosystem and aims to drive enterprise value creation for early-stage companies by leveraging the expertise and resources from the US network. We firmly believe that adopting a strategic investment strategy that spans Canada and the United States is essential for the success of fund managers seeking to achieve 3x+ DPI. Our approach is driven by the objective of bringing valuable knowledge, networks, and resources from the US ecosystem into Canada, accelerating growth, and fostering better returns. In Canada, there is a shortage of founders and employees who have experienced the journey from idea to IPO, hindering the mass development of unicorn companies we've seen in the US. By investing across borders, Ripple Ventures facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience, allowing Canadian founders to tap into a wealth of resources and navigate the challenging “valley of death” stage. This exposure to higher-scale ventures and outcomes creates a fertile ground for innovation, fueling the growth of early-stage companies. We firmly believe that bridging the gap between the Canadian and US ecosystems is pivotal in driving higher enterprise value exits. Currently, Canada only has 25 unicorns generated compared to the US in which there are 700+, and we aim to change that narrative. It must be stressed that investing in Canada today can still be an extremely profitable venture, but this hinges greatly on the degree of ownership an investor can secure. Given the historical performances, a high ownership stake is a significant factor that can help offset the inherent risks and volatility of the scale of venture capital outcomes in Canada. Ripple Ventures is committed to being at the forefront of driving the next generation of category-defining companies in Canada. By leveraging our connections, networks, and experiences from both sides of the border, we aim to catalyze the growth of the Canadian startup ecosystem and pave the way for greater success. If you don't believe us, just ask our founders if we have been successful at doing this. Why keeping fund size smaller mattersKeeping fund sizes smaller is a strategic choice that aligns with Ripple Ventures' investment approach and objectives. It allows us to focus on specific stages, check sizes, ownership targets, and industries that fit our investment thesis. By maintaining smaller funds, we prioritize efficient capital deployment and maximize our ability to generate significant returns for our investors. This approach is particularly advantageous when considering the quantum of exit size relative to the respective market and entry stage. We've seen USV consistently keep their fund sizes relatively the same in all market environments because their formula works. In our view, the game of venture fund managers should be to execute the strategy that you know works for generating strong returns for LPs and raising/recycling capital to keep it going over multiple funds. At Ripple, we've made a commitment to our LPs that we'd never scale the fund past a size that makes sense and is possible to outperform (3x+ DPI). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ripple's philosophy in portfolio construction to drive DPIRipple Ventures adopts a strategic approach by investing across both Canada and the US, employing a barbell strategy to optimize returns within each fund. Recognizing the historical disparity in exit values between the two markets, we tailor our investment strategy accordingly. In Canada, where exits have traditionally been lower, the focus is on playing the ownership game. By securing substantial ownership stakes in companies, Ripple Ventures ensures that even in more modest exits, the ownership-driven returns can generate significant DPI for the fund. Conversely, in the US market, where valuations are higher and obtaining ownership can be more challenging, Ripple Ventures is willing to trade off lower valuations. This balanced approach allows us to capture the potential for higher exit values and drive DPI. In our opinion, employing a barbell strategy is essential for fund managers in Canada to ensure that the interplay between ownership and exit scale is thoughtfully priced into their portfolio, maximizing returns and achieving their target of surpassing the gold standard of 3x DPI.At Ripple Ventures, we deeply admire and draw inspiration from funds like Version One Ventures and Golden Ventures, who have successfully executed the strategy of investing across North America &globally while being based in Canada. These funds serve as valuable partners within the Canadian ecosystem, bringing exposure to top-tier founders, operators, and investors from the US. Apple: Almost $3 Trillion market cap 120,000% all-time price return $400B in annual revenue $120B in annual free cash flow $100B in cash and cash equivalents on the balance sheet And a brand that inspires! A tech company that doesn't stop innovating. And a stock that pays consistent dividends. Apple is a perfect company. But a perfect company doesn't mean a perfect stock. Apple is priced at more than 30X its earnings and more than seven times its sales. Can Apple grow into its current seemingly ambitious valuation? Today, I review Apple's latest product and feature announcements at its worldwide developers' conference, WWDC, and discuss its fundamental analysis and valuation to decide whether it can get even bigger than its current $3T market cap and whether it is still a good stock to buy now. Let's talk about that! Resources:

Welcome, folks! It's that time of the week, when we release the latest episode of our podcast, Hypergrowth Investing. And in today's show, Aaron Davis and I take an in-depth look at the hot topic of the year – inflation! After a red-hot May consumer price index (CPI) print, stocks are tanking on fears that the Federal Reserve is no longer capable of providing a soft landing. With runaway inflation continuing to climb, the Fed will have to ramp up the rate hikes to avoid a stagflationary environment. The central bank is considering – and will likely execute – a 75-basis-point hike in June. That's big – it hasn't happened since November 1994. What's more, it increases the chances of a hard landing and a spiral into a recession, which some see as the only salve to persistent inflation.A “leak” of those plans to The Wall Street Journal allowed the market to prepare for this incoming blow and let the Fed hold onto its credibility. But the fact the central bank must resort to tactics of leaking information to the media shows that its credibility is on shaky ground. From here, it'll talk up a very hawkish path – and no one will be angered by a dovish surprise. But there's a precedent for this kind of “jumbo” hike. In fact, the last two times the Fed hiked rates at this level, it had to cut them in subsequent months. Jumbo hikes usually indicate that we're at the end of a tightening cycle. So, here's what I believe: The central bank will hike 75 bps in June and July, and then we'll hit the pause into the end of the year. While I'm bullish on the 12-month outlook for the market, the question on everyone's mind is: How low can stocks go? Assume a recession is going to happen, and then work from there. During the 2008 recession, corporate earnings dropped 60% – a massive wipeout. In 2000-01, corporate earnings fell about 30%. And during the recession of 1989-91, earnings dove around 25%.If we see a deep recession similar to 2008, earnings will fall 60%. And if we're hit by a shallower recession, like those of 1989 and 2000, earnings will drop closer to 30%. Well, in terms of balance sheets, both consumers and corporations are very strong. And so is the labor market. So, it's very likely that the recession we get will be shallow. If earnings do fall, it will be offset by some equity multiple expansion – usually between 25X and 30X. Applied to the S&P, you'd get a price target of over 4,000 within the next 12 to 24 months. Compared to current levels, we're looking at a fundamental bottom right now. In other words, the S&P is either fairly valued or undervalued today. And that means it's a great time to go dip-buying.

Epic Journey Podcast Episode #24 – Words that Bear Fruit In this episode, Sonny and Cindy discuss the power of your words to bear fruit. When you dig into Gods' word, you'll find a lot of guidance, instruction, encouragement and benefits related to your words. There's also a lot of responsibility to choose your words wisely and to benefit those that hear them. Much like cultivating a garden, our words will transform and bear good fruit if we begin with good seed, pull the weeds, and provide light and living water, truth and grace. When you tap into the potential and the power that your words have, you will begin to experience exponential benefits of bearing the fruit that God has for you, your marriage and your life! What if you could 30X, 60X, 100X your fruit!? Check this out: Mark 4:20 20 "But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” Join us! ------- Epic Journey Podcast #24 – Words that Bear Fruit – Episode Notes The more you study about words and the power of your words, you will start connecting the dots that your words are a reflection of your beliefs and of what you are accepting and receiving into your heart and mind. Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. So, begin listening and hearing yourself and ask yourself about the power of your words. Acknowledge the relationship with Christ as the origin, the WORD, the beginning. Then realize how your words come from Gods' truth into your heart, into your mind and then are an expression of what you believe and when spoken will have power to bring good things into your life. If Christ dwells in you, then your words will be an expression of both grace and truth. Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 49:3 My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding. The goals of pleasing God, gaining wisdom, understanding each other…. These are great goals, and it is well worth the effort and patience you'll need to just start the process of listening to your words and making the adjustments in your heart and mind that will help you tend to the garden, bear fruit, and speak life into each other. The Word Became Flesh 1 John 1:1-5, 14 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Now verse 14 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Strong's concordance 1 John the root of the Word which you will see is capitalized in the scripture, is the Greek word logos, which has its origins in another word lego which means to lay forth, to relate, and then back to logos and it says this: something said (including the thought) by implying a topic, also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive, and in John the Divine expression, i.e. Christ. Mark 4:20 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. This is such a good reminder of the importance of hearing and listening and what it can lead to. Our faith comes from hearing through the word of Christ. Colossians 3:16 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,...

Endlessly curious about the origin of legends and myths, he is considered a global authority on the creation of iconic, “larger-than-life” brands that attract legions of customers and top talent – without having to use “pushy” marketing tactics. Some organizations he has worked with have achieved 15-30X financial growth while becoming a much coveted and highly desirable “Category of One”. His fascination with “legends” likely dates back to the age of 11, watching the “Immaculate Reception”, December 23, 1972, as Franco Harris galloped into NFL history. Today, that curiosity extends to dissecting how the world's top brands become - simply irresistible. Everything from Apple & AC/DC to Lulu Lemon and Led Zeppelin. Specifically, his research focuses on small, but mighty giants that exert the same magnetic, pulling power similar to what NIKE does with shoes and Harley Davidson with motorcycles. These “Big Little Legends” include historic Café Du Monde in New Orleans; world famous, Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle and Webers on Highway 11 in Northern Ontario. Inspired by her travels with the Johnson Space Center's “Engineers Without Borders” team, Samantha Snabes has helped launch some of the largest and most affordable industrial 3D printers in the world. Her company, re:3D, is the manufacturer of the Gigabot, a giant 3D printer that boasts a build volume starting at 30X the size of desktop printers. The eco-friendly Gigabot sells for one-tenth the cost of typical industrial printers, can print directly from plastic waste, and has customers in more than 50 countries. In this podcast, Snabes shares her observations of how 3D printing is radically transforming the way we think about product design. “The vision for what you will make changes as soon as you start printing it,” she says. “Designers will often say within the first three layers, they've found a way to improve their idea. Just starting to see the outline of the physical form inspires new ideas.” Snabes also chats with Jon about her experiences in the Mississippi National Guard, where she serves in an emergency response unit for hurricane and disaster relief.

Transcript:Anatoly (00:09):Hey folks, this is Anatoly and you're listening to the Solana Podcast, and today I have with me Daffy Durairaj, who is the co-founder of Mango Markets, so awesome to have you.Daffy (00:20):It's great to be here.Anatoly (00:22):So origin story, how'd you get into crypto? What made you build Mango Markets?Daffy (00:30):How did I get into crypto? So, I started off really not wanting to get into crypto. I was really interested in algorithm training. I did that in college and did some competitions that I did well in, and I wanted to trade equities, but it turns out if you have not enough money, if you have a few thousand dollars it's just not allowed. You're not allowed to algorithmically trade. There's a patent day trader rule, and I was infuriated and I was just looking around and I found Poloniex where you can do anything you want. The thing that actually hooked me first to Poloniex was the lending market because immediately as soon as I saw an open lending market, I was like, "Oh wow, I have to buy some bitcoin, and I have to lend it out." And, Poloniex was all bitcoin, and then it gradually got into just the meat of it, which was algorithmic trading and everything about crypto seemed exciting, but I actually didn't want to hold bitcoin. Poloniex was all bitcoin, but again, I think the government sort of pushed me in the right direction.I was like, "Okay, I don't want to hold bitcoin, I'll hedge off my risk on BitMEX, but again, not open to US persons, and so I was kind of reluctantly holding bitcoin and thinking, all right, I have a few thousand dollars if things go bad in this whole bitcoin thing. I'll come out okay. I'll get a job or whatever, but just never got a job, just kept holding bitcoin and continue to trade crypto, and I did that for about five years. Then, I wanted to actually start trading on chain because I thought this was probably for a lot of the reasons that you built Solana, the censorship resistance, and the global liquidity of it, and the openness of it, the fact that you're not excluding people that have a few thousand dollars. I wanted to build on chain and I was just not very bullish on a lot of things, so I kept going back to trading, and then I saw Serum DEX, and I was just hooked. I placed a trade and it felt totally natural and normal. It wasn't like $40 and takes 20 seconds and you don't know if it... And, then MetaMask was jammed and you're like, "Oh, but how do I cancel this?" So, that was a long-winded way of saying I was a trader and then I saw Serum DEX and then I had to start building the tools that would make Serum DEX even more fun.Anatoly (02:59):That's awesome. I got into it by trading. Basically, I set up like an Interactive Brokers IRA account, and that let me kind of bypass the rules.Daffy (03:11):Really?Anatoly (03:13):With a very small amount of money. I think they probably closed these loopholes already. I wrote a bunch of stuff on top of their Java STK and started trading there.Daffy (03:22):I remember I actually got started that way too. I did a bunch of stuff for their Java, and we can tell you we're both programmers. We wanted to build this money machine. It's so fascinating, and it's a machine that-Anatoly (03:40):It prints money.Daffy (03:40):It does things and it prints money. What more could you want? So, I got started with Interactive Brokers, but I guess the whole IRA thing... Because I was a college student, and so even talking to an accountant would take a huge dent out of my net worth.Anatoly (04:01):Totally, it's all really not designed for... The whole financial system in trading in the US is designed to funnel retail towards an app like E-Trade or Robinhood, which takes a cut, and then sells that trade to somebody else, who will take a cut, and then 10 other people until it gets an exchange, and that's how everybody's protecting their neck. They're all taking a little slice, and I think what's cool about crypto is that even centralized exchange like FTX is 1,000 times better and less extractive of the users than anything in traditional finance, simply because they can guarantee settlement. Such a very simple thing.Daffy (04:49):You feel it right from the beginning. You go to Poloniex in 2016, and it's like, oh, you have an email, you have deposited bitcoin, and now you're just lending to people. So, just talk about not being extractive. To see the order book through Interactive Brokers or Ameritrade or whatever costs you a lot of money and it costs them a lot of money to provide it, and I don't think I'd ever seen an order book. This was my passion, this is what I love to do, and I've never actually seen it.There's that story of the blind men who are touching this elephant, and so I had kind of figured out maybe what the order book looks like, but then on Poloniex, you go there and you just see the order book and you see all the lights flashing and you're like, "Oh, this is it. This is where the trades are happening." And, that's free, and of course, a big part of Mango Markets as well is you can see the order book. That's it, that is it, there's nothing more, and it's all on chain and all this stuff. So, in terms of not being extractive, it's a really big piece of what motivates people to come in.Anatoly (06:02):I don't know if you ever tried to get data, real data. I wanted timing information when a bid comes in or when an ask comes in versus when it's filled. How do I get access to it? Because when you get data from any of these places, basically it's like a little better than Yahoo Finance, which is like every five minutes they give you a low and a high.Daffy (06:27):I don't know, did you ever succeed at doing that in Interactive Brokers?Anatoly (06:32):No, I recorded some of it, but it just never had that fidelity and it always felt like a gamble. I'll build some models and sometimes stuff would work locally against my simulations, but then whenever I would actually try to run it, I'd see that fills take a little longer than they should and all this stuff really feels like you're not interacting directly with the trading system, that somebody when they see your order they're like, "Well, maybe I'll put my order ahead of yours or do whatever or slow you down a bit." It just sucks.Daffy (07:16):It feels very opaque, it's like a black box, and of course, this is all for people like me who are kind of looking on the outside looking in. So, if I had gotten a job at Citadel or somewhere, then I could probably see what's actually happening, but the fact that the vast majority of people are going to look at it and not really know it's actually happening, not everyone wants to see an order book. That's an important fact, but there are a large number of people who need it to be a little bit transparent to be involved.Anatoly (07:49):What I hate about it is that there's a lot of people that make a lot of money from you not seeing, that they're in the business of information assymetry and fuck them.Daffy (07:58):So, it's not a family friendly podcast, so it's good. I was going to ask that. So, there's a funny story on RuneScape. I don't know if you've ever played RuneScape.Anatoly (08:17):I played Ultima Online, which is I think similar vibes in the early days.Daffy (08:22):Yeah, so on RuneScape, just like on the point of no one being able to see anything, on RuneScape, also they had an order book because that's the most natural thing to do, and I actually had to figure it out from first principles. I would place a trade and I would see that sometimes it would get executed and sometimes it would not get executed, then I realized, okay, if I place a trade for these water runes or something or oak logs or something, and I put the price really high it gets executed at some price that's not the price that I said, and then I was able to form this concept of that's the asking price. I didn't even have the terminology for this, and then I did the same for set the price to zero for a trade and now I found the bid, and now I can make a lot of money actually underbidding the best asker and overbidding the best bid.Anatoly (09:18):So, you're market making.Daffy (09:20):Yeah, so it's funny, I was reminded because you said there's a lot of people who make a lot of money in you not knowing, and I was just minting money. It took me years to accumulate like 1 million gold pieces in RuneScape and then I was able to just 30X it in a month.Anatoly (09:46):Too bad RuneScape is not a crypto currency. Whoever is running RuneScape, you're missing a huge opportunity right now to just go full crypto.Daffy (10:00):There was some talk about some NFT or something on Twitter. Somebody was trying to encourage Jagex, the company, to get involved in crypto, and of course, I tried to signal boost it, but eventually everyone falls in line.Anatoly (10:17):How did you end up with the idea for Mango Markets?Daffy (10:21):So, I have to give credit to dYdX. It was like 2019 and I hadn't really considered that this was possible. I was heads down writing, trading algorithms and trading crypto just kind of holding all of my wealth in bitcoin and I was borderline bitcoin maxi on that, and just seeing dYdX do it in those early days... Now of course, they're way more successful now. Those early days seemed that you could do leverage trading on chain, and they kind of showed it as a proof of concept, which I just kind of started pacing back and forth like, oh my God, this is changing our worldview completely.Ethereum was slow and whatever, so years went by. Actually, maybe just like a year, and then I saw Serum DEX where I felt finally, okay, all the pieces are in play and also I wanted to market make on Serum DEX, but I really need leverage. I don't really need leverage, it just makes market making dramatically more efficient and safer. Leverage is just this tool that people who are involved in the financial plumbing really need, and it wasn't there. I was like, "Okay, this is the time and I have to learn how to code smart contracts," which sounds like a very scary and daunting task, but it was not that bad.Anatoly (11:54):The scary part was that you guys were building on a platform that was really rough around the edges at the time.Daffy (12:02):Well, no one told me that shit was really rough around the edges at the time. That was actually maybe important. You come in and there was nothing to do, this was August of 2020, things were not locked down necessarily here in the United States, but people kind of scattered. No one was hanging out in the major cities, they had kind of went to go live with their families, as did I. I fled San Francisco and went to the rural part of North Carolina. So, there was nothing going on and you just have all the time in the world and bitcoin is doing well, so that's funding you in a way.Bitcoin is this big, or crypto in general, it's all the people who bought it or own some crypto, as long as it's going up, it's kind of funding whatever zany side projects you have in mind. So, this is just a side project. Wouldn't it be cool if I could access this part of the world or this technology? And so, that's why chewing glass... You probably coined that term, I don't know, that's why chewing glass wasn't so hard because that pressure to... You have all the time in the world basically.Anatoly (13:30):Basically, COVID and lockdowns were so boring that chewing glass to learn how to code smart contracts with Solana was like a reprieve from the boredom.Daffy (13:45):And, I've heard you kind of say, okay, a bear market is when everyone is coding. To give the opposite perspective, I feel like a bull market, unlike much more chill, oh yeah, nothing really matters. Crypto is going up, it doesn't matter what I do. The rent is going to be paid for, everything is going to be fine, might as well engage in high variance new ideas, new projects. In a bear market, I'm very I got to grind, I got to squeeze out a couple of more bips out of this trading algorithm because I got to pay rent. So, that's the bullish case on bull markets.Anatoly (14:30):That you can try something crazy. That is the point where people enter this space is in a bull market. It's that they kind of start coming in droves because they're like, "Everything is crazy and I can also be part of the party." But, it's hard as a founder to stay focused because you are in that high variance, high risk taking kind of mindset.Daffy (14:58):There's a trade off of during a bull market there's a lot of things looking for your attention, and a bear market is very calm, or it can be. If you built up a lot of liabilities during the bull market, now you have to stay afloat during the bear market. Maybe it's calm in the external world, but internally it's not calm. You're like, "I got to do X, Y, and Z today every day." There's that natural pressure.Anatoly (15:32):So, you decided to learn coding on smart contracts on Solana. How did you end up going from there into Mango?Daffy (15:39):Initially, it was called Leverum. Not it, there was just an idea and there was a command line tool where you could... The YouTube video might still be out there, and Max was out there somewhere on the internet and he saw it and he thought it was a great idea. And so, he reached out to me and we did some other things like speculative about a prediction market, and then we were like, "Okay, no one is going to build margin trading." A lot of people are saying it, but it doesn't look like if we just wait it's just going to happen in the next couple of weeks or something. It's probably we just have to build it.Not we just have to, but we totally should. This is clearly a very important piece of the Solana ecosystem. So, we started building it. Mango was just we were thinking alliteration is good. Everybody loves mangoes, it's a fruit that I have never heard of anybody who doesn't like mangoes. It's probably the high sugar content and Mango Margin was the idea, but then we got the domain Mango.Markets. It's kind of evolved now. When you're starting off with something, you have kind of a narrow scope. You're like, "I just want to be able to borrow money." And now, there's this Mango DAO and people are talking about NFTs and drones. I'm talking about drones. I don't know if anybody else is, but it's just gone way higher and now I'm like, "I'm a humble servant of the Mango DAO." And, that's totally a normal thing to say.Anatoly (17:27):How big is the DAO?Daffy (17:28):How big is the DAO? That's a good question.Anatoly (17:30):In humansDaffy (17:31):That's like a philosophical question. In human terms, wow, again, even still a philosophical question. So, I think if you go to MNGO token, if you go to the Solana explorer and just type in mango or MNG or something, you can probably... I don't know if they have a list of unique token addresses, so in some sense that's the DAO, but in terms of the number of people who actively post on the forums and make proposals, that's much smaller. I'm guessing there's thousands of people who have votes, but the number of people who make proposals and add meaningful commentary on the forums is maybe 20 people, and it's expanding pretty quickly.I always see new people coming in. There's also not just people, there's the wealth of the DAO and the cultural reach of the DAO, the spiritual significance of the DAO, all of those seem like size if you ask how big is the DAO. You interviewed Balaji Srinivasan, and there's this idea that he had on Twitter that was like a DAO should buy land in Wyoming and send a drone to circle it and this is kind of like a moon landing sort of kind of thing or some kind of significant breakthrough where the DAO is controlling physical objects in the real world. So, this is very exciting to me, but it has nothing to do with margin trading, it's just something exciting that maybe in a bear market, I don't know, I'll push to get this done.Anatoly (19:23):Do you want the control to happen on chain?Daffy (19:25):Yeah, I think that's necessary. Maybe not the total control, but some kind of signal that distance... So, you can kind of think of Congress authorizes a certain thing and then the executive branch does it. If we could make that link be as automated as possible, I think there's something useful there, at the very least something exciting and interesting, kind of like the moon landing where maybe there wasn't anything useful, but it was inspiring for sure.Anatoly (20:02):So, the DAO, if you guys decided you want to do something with leverage and lending, and how you guys launched was really unique. I don't even know if people did this in Ethereum. To me, this is the first time anyone's kind of done this style of launch. Can you talk about the design and how you guys thought of it and what let you make those choices?Daffy (20:25):So, people early to Solana may be familiar with the Mango market caps and how that went, which somewhat argues the first NFT on Solana, and that was done pretty much sort of like how NFTs are typically done where there's a mad rush to grab the caps as soon as possible and the price is swinging wildly and there's a lot of people. Now, I think we put that together as an April Fool's kind of thing, very quickly, and so it was great for what it did, but the experience from that was, okay, there's going to be a lot of angry people. If you do it in this way where the DAO is raising funds, and this is the inception of the DAO, the DAO is raising funds for insurance fund, you probably don't want it to just be distributed to the people who were the fastest to click. And, that was the idea. We probably don't want that. It doesn't seem useful, it seems like a lot of angry people, and a lot of frustrated people. So okay, so you take out the time component, you take out the luck component, and then you're left with you kind of have this sort of auction that lasts 24 hours, but then what if X somebody comes at the last moment and dumps in a huge amount of money and raises the price for everyone? Everyone gets the same price. So, our design was we'll have a withdrawal period or a grace period at the end, the remaining 24 hours where if you kind of don't like the price, you can bail out. It had some flaws and I think we knew about those flaws from the beginning. We were like, "Okay, we just pushed to this game of chicken to a later point where someone can put in a lot of money to scare other people away and then they pull out at the last second. And that did happen, but it's not clear if that was net positive or net negative.Anatoly (22:28):And kind of in summary, there's this 24 hour period where people deposit funds in for a fixed supply of tokens.Daffy (22:36):Correct.Anatoly (22:37):And, then the period is over, and now everybody knows what the total amount in the pot is for the token and there's kind of this price that's created and then if you don't like the price, you can withdraw the entire bid or as much as you want. You can only reduce your bid.Daffy (22:54):Correct.Anatoly (22:54):But, you don't need to withdraw the entire bid, you can just reduce it.Daffy (22:57):Correct, yep.Anatoly (22:58):So, then that pushes the average price down at the same time, so for every dollar you take out, you kind of get a better price per token.Daffy (23:07):And, you see the price ticking up during the first 24 hours as more and more people are putting money in and then the price ticking down over the next 24 hours.Anatoly (23:19):I'm a huge fan of this setup because it creates a lot of... There was news, you guys made the news because it was almost half of all of USDC that was minted on Solana ended up in that smart contract. It was like 45% of it.Daffy (23:43):I remember actually because we saw the USDC on Solana was 700 million the days before and then it had climbed up to like 1.1 billion or I don't know what the number was at the end, and there was 500 million in the contract at the end of the first 24 hours. That was not the intention.Anatoly (24:05):It's like it was minted.Daffy (24:05):And honestly, I think you could appreciate it better from the outside than from my point of view for sure, and of course, I also could appreciate it better from the time distance, but that was not expected. We kind of knew that there would be a lot of money placed in the beginning and then money would go down. That was in all the documentation that we wrote, and that was expected and we had all these dev calls where everyone was always talking about it, and I was like, "Okay, come on. Literally, there isn't that much USDC in Solana." So, it can't be that bad, but of course, I underrated the possibility that someone could just mint a whole bunch of new USDC and bring it in from somewhere else. It made the news and a couple of other projects did the same thing, and I wonder if maybe it's a one time kind of thing. The game only works once. You can't expect to scare people every time or use the tactic every time.Anatoly (25:10):Maybe, I think a lot to be said, but there was no other way to go. Mango took it all, so there was no private round, they were never listed anywhere. This was really the only way to get it, and the anticipation of a project that was awesome, and from every other perspective is... What I always tell founders is that you should always raise the least amount for the highest price. The VCs kind of have more power than you usually because they have more information, they look at many deals, people come to them, they have the money, but it's sometimes the founders have this asymmetry where they're the only ones without equity. They're the only ones without tokens and that moment is if you can get everybody at the same time to compete for that thing, then you've kind of created the symmetry there and you maximize the capital raise for the DAO, for the project, for the community, and therefore that actually is a good thing. You have more resources to build a vision.Daffy (26:16):Although, I'll clarify, I think the DAO is still handing out a lot of tokens, so there's still a lot of ways to acquire Mango tokens, and that was kind of the inception for the insurance fund. The DAO has been paying people out of the insurance fund, and so it's been useful, but there's still more tokens to be had. There is a slight private rounds and I totally understand why people do them, but like I said earlier, if you are in crypto for a while, and this the cool thing about bull markets, I don't actually need money, I just need to pay rent and bitcoin has gone up 50%, so I'm solid. And, no one was paid anything. There was just Mango tokens that were given to people and they were told the DAO values your contribution or this is the inception of the DAO, and everyone worked to build this thing. People worked without even the Mango tokens and sort of the tokens were given after the fact. I think it's a valuable way to build crypto projects actually.Anatoly (27:30):I want more teams to try to totally from genesis this DAO first approach, but it's really tough because you guys had such a principled view on how things should be done and there's a lot of people out there that are offering money for that one thing. How did you guys have the discipline to just go stick with this?Daffy (27:54):We had a lot of discussions about all these things. We talked to VCs and we still do and we like all VCs actually. So, I think Satoshi, I'm not trying to draw a comparison to us to Satoshi or anything, but there is this beauty in that story and I think there's a lot, maybe even the majority of bitcoin's value at least to me... To me, I just love the narrative. I love the story of Satoshi, the pseudonymous founder who is one of the richest people on the planet right now. Obviously, they're in a no VCs. This person wanted to not make a big fuss. It was kind of like this clockmaker prophetic person who just came and then left, built this thing and then left, and that's such an amazing story. There are these long, long payoffs. Maybe they take a while, but they definitely do pay off that if you're not hurting for rent, again, I was in a position, all the other Mango devs were in this position as well where it was a bull market, we're not getting eviction notices or something, we could kind of float the boat for a while. Just consider the longterm payoffs, consider the five year payoffs. Stories are amazing.Anatoly (29:17):The weirdest thing is that every good VC will tell you that you should maximize for the highest return. Don't worry about the middle exit, or don't compromise. Actually, imagine you're taking over the world, what are the steps to get there? And, the risk don't matter. Actually maximize for the high and this is the irony here is that I think this kind of fair launch, most distribution will probably result in overall longterm, better, and higher returns, but the risks that I always find is that humans are hard to organize and at the same time, cryptography is this new tool for organization. It is what allows us to massively scale agreement and complex problems, really, really complicated problems. We can just click a button and vote and agree on that one and you know. You know that the decision was made, but I'm curious, do you see tension between the decentralization, kind of the disorganization of the DAO and getting shit done? I've got to build stuff.Daffy (30:34):No, 100% actually, on a daily basis actually. There was a podcast with the guy on Twitter that goes by Austerity Sucks and this was back in April. We talked about this and he brought up a similar point and he was, "Yeah, this DAO thing, it's all a fine and dandy idea, but do you think this will work?" And I, to be honest with you, am skeptical, however it is always felt to me sort of a high variance idea, kind of like if you were in the 16th century Netherlands or the 17th century Netherlands and you were like, "Okay, we've got to get spices from India. How do we do it?"And, you come up with a joint stock corporation and then the join stock corporation is everywhere and I don't think anyone has really figured out how to do DAOs well or what's the right mix, how do we communicate, how do we coordinate, all those things. I don't think anyone's quite figured it out yet. No one had figured it out like six months ago. I still don't think we have figured it out, but if it works, the payoff is enormous. There is global coordination, there isn't a jurisdiction. I imagine the DAO is controlling drones one day. It could be wild. So, even taking into account all of my skepticism, I was still like, "Okay, we should do the DAO idea." Anyway, not just me, Max is totally on board with this and Tyler and all the other people who kind of built Mango Markets. But on a day to day basis, as of October 2021, now I'm thinking, okay, maybe what we need to do is have small teams that build things and then pitch it in front of the DAO and get compensation. So, the DAO is kind of the government and it subcontracts out to people. Maybe not like direct democracy rules everything and we'll try that out and if that doesn't work, we'll try something else out, but try new stuff out quickly.Anatoly (32:45):That's awesome. This is actually a really good strategy to incentivize product development. Building an MVP, which means you're the PM, and the implementer, the dev, and you go do all the work and here's your management. It's all done, just give me money.Daffy (33:09):And, there's some maintenance tasks, so it's not purely new products, so I'm thinking Mango V4, but also in the meantime, there are all these nodes that need to be paid for.Anatoly (33:24):I think you guys will need to split. We called it KTLO, keeping the lights on work. You for six months, you're on KTLO duty, and you get paid a salary effectively, and you just got to keep the lights on, but then some other folks are like, "Go build something that you can propose to the DAO and the DAO will fund it."Daffy (33:49):I think that's basically what we have coalesced on is that, well, some people should be doing KTLO and other people should be doing new things, building the new product, and it takes kind of the risk out. The DAO doesn't have to pay for whatever stuff that I produce for Mango V4, but we both have some kind of incentive to be honest about it. If it's clearly a huge improvement or even a very substantial improvement, DAO should pay me something because if the DAO doesn't, then you can expect future builders to not go for it. And, we have these discussions on the forums.People make good arguments like this. I think the average IQ in the Mango Markets forums is very high. I think probably higher than most legislative bodies. I'm just going to go out on a limb and just say that. Not ours of course, ours is obviously very high IQ, smart people in our government, but you know.Anatoly (34:55):Do you believe five years there's going to be a 30,000 person DAO. Imagine a tech company, 30,000 engineers, or 30,000 people, they got product managers, teams, layers of bullshit. Is there going to be a DAO that's competing with a big tech company?Daffy (35:16):It's legitimately really hard to figure out how this might look. The reason why I hesitate so much with the question of a 30,000 person DAO is I'm not sure it'll look exactly like a corporation that we can say, okay, these are these 30,000 people. You might never be able to figure out who is part of the DAO and maybe that's one of the benefits of the DAO. If I asked you, how many people are part of Solana, not Solana Labs, but Solana the community? It's a little bit difficult to even answer, lots of people, various levels of involvement, and financial. Some people have a lot of financial stake until you don't, but some people have a lot of financial stake and no involvement at all. It's wild all over the place. Does Bitcoin look like a country or a corporation? I can even point my finger on what it is.Anatoly (36:20):So, even LINE had a battle that had 8,000 people all coordinating over something and I think they have corporations within that game that are maybe probably span up to 1,000 I'd imagine. So, that's people organizing using tech for a common goal without a job, without a structure that you normally have at a company. Linux was built by people organizing online. I think as soon as you have something to lose and in Linux and even LINE you start building up a virtual token, your reputation is a contributor to this thing and becomes a thing that we don't normally think of as valuable in a monetary way, but it's valuable to that person, but I definitely care about my ability to continue contributing to an open source project. So, where tokens I think can get there is if there is something of value being created by the community, some common goal that everyone is working on and that token is in the middle of it and is uniting and organizing it. I think that could scale as large as a corporation.Daffy (37:45):No, I agree with you. I just think it'll always be a little bit hard to figure out how many or who is involved, just by the nature of it. I just think it'll be always a little bit hard to figure out, but will 30,000 people be building on Mango or some DAO? You already know the numbers better, but we might even be approaching that with Solana. So, I'm not part of Solana Labs or affiliated with Solana in any way, but building on Solana, and also I have a financial incentive too, but also I have a reputation incentive and it feel like I'm part of the Solana corps or whatever it is, but I don't know what it is. It doesn't even exist. It's not even a DAO. There isn't even a DAO there.Anatoly (38:39):Oddly enough, I feel the same way about Eth and bitcoin even is that we're competing with them.Daffy (38:50):But, it all feels like we're actually kind of a part of the same team and-Anatoly (38:54):This is the weird part that I think is going to be really interesting how it plays out because I don't think it's obvious to anybody what is crypto. Is it the token? Is it the coin? Is it the network? Is it the cryptography itself?Daffy (39:10):It's not the cryptography itself, so we can strike that one out.Anatoly (39:14):Are you so sure? I think it's honestly the power that a person has to be able to make these very concrete statements that are unbreakable no matter how... That's the math. The math behind it is what allows them to do them.Daffy (39:36):I don't totally know the cryptography itself. I know basic 101 number theory stuff, but I remember going through my first programming class and coming up feeling just very powerful. I'd write stuff down and then it happens. Kind of like a king, actually, more powerful than a king in a lot of ways because I was writing these training algorithms and it was happening around the world in ways that probably a medieval king couldn't imagine and crypto brings that to finance where things of actual value can be moved.Mango Markets exists and you can go there and place a trade right now, but it was just somebody who wrote it. I was involved based on you can see the GitHub contributions, but it was just people who wrote it and that's probably... We can maybe chalk that up to the cryptography.Anatoly (40:43):So, what's next for you guys?Daffy (40:46):There's drones on the horizon. Yes, sometime in the future, but we have to do a lot of the nitty-gritty, roll up your sleeves kind of work. On Solana so far, there isn't... Maybe a lot of projects are struggling with this, indexing all the data and providing it for people in a usable way because there's just so many transactions. It turns out if transaction fees are really low, people just make a lot of transactions and they don't think about it.And so, gathering it up and displaying it in a useful format to people, that's a very immediate term and then slightly medium term is sort of becoming the place where everyone does leverage trading and does borrow and lending, all the crypto natives. And then of course in the longterm, I would say it's somebody like my mom should be able to store her money in Mango Markets and not think twice about it. It's not a good idea right now I wouldn't say, but that's the goal. That involves a lot more social things than just technological things. That's get it to a level where she can do it safely and feel comfortable and manage her keys, or even if she's not managing her keys, have a solution for how the keys might be managed, that she's not falling for scams, and that's I would say my longterm goal.Anatoly (42:09):That's awesome, man. On that note, man, really awesome to have you on the podcast. Great conversation. I'm always excited about what you guys are doing and how the community is building this ecosystem of its own, so really amazing. It's serendipity that you guys started going on Solana, just really lucky to have folks like you in the ecosystem.Daffy (42:35):Thanks a lot. It means a lot. This was really fun.
What's the inconvenient truth about dental insurance? Dental insurance does NOT cover catastrophic dental coverage (like medical) - dental insurance is capped Industry terminology = plan maximum Average Dental Plan Maximum = $1,000 - $2,000 Inconvenient truth = dental plans maximums have been these same levels for the past 30X years while the cost of dental care has risen on average 4.3% per year according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Of the $62B spent on dental care in 2019 in the United States an equal amount of people paid out-of-pocket as were covered under dental insurance Just 50.2% of dentate adults aged 18–64 with private health It may not even be worth buying dental insurance if you need extensive dental care according to Consumer Reports When a dental crown costs $3950 or a dental implant costs $7,350 a dental insurance plan maximum of $2,00 doesn't work *disclaimer* this is not dental advice - this is meant for information purposes only and is not intended to be dental advice or instructions for dental diagnosis or treatment. Lacework will help you get your security act together for everything from compliance service configurations to container app relationships, all without the need for PhDs in AWS to write the rules. If you're building a secure business on AWS with compliance requirements, you don't really have time to choose between antivirus or firewall companies to help you secure your stack. That's why Lacework is built from the ground up for the cloud: low effort, high visibility, and detection. To learn more, visit lacework.com. That's lacework.com.Jesse: I've heard the term ‘fail gracefully' hundreds of times. What the heck does that really mean? Most people don't think too hard on how their system should gracefully bow out rather than the old school method of complete failures and horrible restarts. Resilient software engineering is the discipline of making software and systems fail in ways that minimize and isolate failures while continuing to deliver service and availability. Basically, it means if you have a failure from hardware or dependencies, like a database, your service continues to work correctly and the broken parts just get shut down and replaced.Cloud-native software using microservices or even dynamically deployed containers or systems is the perfect way to implement resiliency in your operations. Look toward the next development cycle of your software and systems to begin implementing this immediately if you don't already have this in place. None of this really makes sense until you see an example, so think of it this way: you have a web-based service for customers to see their account profile and order history. It's built to scale with containers using AWS Elastic Kubernetes service—or EKS—and it is designed so when a system throws errors of any kind, that container is closed down. Then the Aws Elastic Load Balancer—or ELP—service points all subsequent requests to a different container instance in EKS.In that scenario, if a container is breached in a security event, or if something simply fails due to a software bug or data corruption, the service recovers by tossing a new system while yanking out the old system. This is security by designing self-healing IT systems. You get both security and stability for the same effort. This is DevSecOps in practice and shows how a shift-left mindset for your organization is the best possible approach for your business or mission.Jesse: Meanwhile, in the news. Cybersecurity industry reacts as antivirus pioneer John McAfee found dead. Sure John McAfee was clearly in his own blend of strange and eccentric, but he launched an entire industry vertical 34 years ago. The computer age has been around long enough now that the founders of the early megacorps are all fading away. Don't forget our history, and if you ever asked yourself, “What would John McAfee do?” Please go do the opposite unless you plan on launching a successful business.Storms & Silver Linings: Avoiding the Dangers of Cloud Migration. This reminds me of the weeping and gnashing that happened every time some new wiki went up at various jobs and projects. I learned to hate wikis because they were always horribly organized and always out of date. Heed the advice here: if it's out of date, archive it somewhere else and don't migrate to your shiny new cloud.7 ways technical debt increases security risk. Fixing old software in a fast-moving world is like the scope creep of how much stuff we acquire between moving houses or offices. You can either take advantage of touching everything to purge and organize, or you can blindly shove it all in a box and move it. We all think we'll get around to fix it later. Nope. We don't. We increase our risk in ways we can't see. Go fix your stuff.New DNS Name Server Hijack Attack Exposes Businesses, Government Agencies. There is so much information someone can gather about your organization by collecting information that was supposed to go to you. AWS closed this hole, but not all DNS services have. DNS is a resilient service, but it was never designed with modern attacks in mind. I love DNS and I hate DNS. You should too.CISO Jason Lee on Zoom's response to its pandemic security challenges. Explosive growth is scary; 30X growth in months is terrifying. Zoom did it. Can you? Very few companies can stay functioning, let alone secure in those situations.Software-Container Supply Chain Sees Spike in Attacks. I don't think I've beat the drum of supply-chain attacks enough. These are on the rise now that there is a great example of how effective these are. I sure hope you've secured your supply chain. I'm sure you haven't, but we can always hope.Four states propose laws to ban ransomware payments. This is a bit like making it illegal to pay kidnappers or terrorists. I know many companies will get owned and pay anyway, and regulations to stop money flowing to criminals is nothing new. There will be loopholes found and exploited, like in all things. Keep up with what laws affect your organization and how you perform security. To stop ransomware pandemic, start with the basics. We security people repeat ourselves constantly because implementing the basic security defenses mitigates most risk for most organizations. Please go do at least the [CIST 00:05:51] top five if you can't do all of them.Senators propose bill to help tackle cybersecurity workforce shortage. The US federal government is pushing hard on cybersecurity now that they were owned in front of the whole world by the SolarWinds and MS Exchange debacles. Like most companies, cybersecurity seems to be an afterthought in budgets and priorities, until the media gets to pummel them for weeks on end in the news.Announcer: If you have several PostgreSQL databases running behind NAT, check out Teleport, an open-source identity-aware access proxy. Teleport provides secure access to anything running behind NAT, such as SSH servers or Kubernetes clusters and—new in this release—PostgreSQL instances, including AWS RDS. Teleport gives users superpowers like authenticating via SSO with multi-factor, listing and seeing all database instances, getting instant access to them using popular CLI tools or web UIs. Teleport ensures best security practices like role-based access, preventing data exfiltration, providing visibility, and ensuring compliance. Download Teleport at goteleport.com. That's goteleport.com.Jesse: Expecting the Unexpected: Tips for Effectively Mitigating Ransomware Attacks in 2021. Much of the advice I see for mitigating any horrific attack is a huge amount of labor, but all the work is necessary. Ransomware can wipe out whole backups, destroy codebases that aren't recoverable, it can steal, or even worse, publicly disclose your secrets. Don't think you are ready for a large ransomware attack. These things are driven by people who have studied your systems and might have been in them for weeks. What Lies Ahead for K-12 Cybersecurity? As the president and principal of a small elementary school and a technologist, I've implemented mostly cloud services to support the school operations and classroom work. Many of us in tech who work with large organizations in state, local, and higher ed—called SLED—national, or federal governments, and large corporations forget that there are small and mid-sized businesses—or SMBs—and K through 12 schools that also have the same concerns we do. After all, we all run Windows, Mac OS, Unix, and Linux, middleware and cloud services. How to Protect Healthcare Data from Ransomware Attacks. If all of us protected our data like we ought to for protected or personal health information—or PHI—and personally identifiable information—or PII—then we'd have far less breaches and even less exfiltration and disclosure of our private information. And now for the tip of the week. Introducing software resiliency is far from trivial, so let's look at how to get started understanding this. First, to understand what this all means, read some primers like System Resilience: What Exactly Is It? from the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute and Resilience Engineering: An Introduction from BMC's DevOps blog. Then look at how to implement this. Charting a path to software resiliency is a Medium piece written for the Walmart Global Tech blog and 7 Best Practices to Build and Maintain Resilient Applications and Infrastructure, a piece on the new stack by Kris Beevers of NS1. There are hundreds of quality resources out there on these subjects, but this should get you started on your new path to a brighter, cloudier future. And that's it for the week, folks. Securely yours Jesse Trucks.Jesse: Thanks for listening. When we were first starting out, time horizons were difficult to conceptualize. We pitching ideas to get them into portfolios you can’t possibly run money without also first understanding why you own something. Why someone else owns something and how that affects prices. Investing isn’t binary. 101010There isn’t always a right and wrong when it comes to stocks, and investing. It’s missing the point. With the RM podcast we make an effort to point listeners in the direction of global trends to make more informed business and life decisions. We feel like were pretty damn good at that. But that job requires a certain time horizon... And that horizon isn’t a short one. It’s quite the opposite. It’s much longer... So tune in for 2 stories: First one is from my favorite writer in the world. Morgan HouselKnowing what game you’re playingAn idea that’s obvious but overlooked is that investors on the same field play different games. We buy the same companies, read the same news, talk to the same people, are quoted the same market prices – but we’re everything from day traders to endowments with century-long time horizons. Even investors who think they’re playing the same game – say, stock pickers – have wildly different goals and risk tolerances. My view is that most investing debates do not reflect genuine disagreement; they reflect investors playing different games talking over each other, upset that people who don’t want what you want can’t see what you see. Understanding your game, without being swayed by people playing different games, is a rare investing power.Second is a story/lesson from Peter Lynch “Invest In What You Know”Peter Lynch on the biggest mistake investors make: "They don't know what they own. They do more research on a microwave oven and buy based on a tip they heard on the bus. They buy into the potential of something. They hear a terrific story." "I find when you hear that [story], you just have to black out. You have to think of a movie you went to recently because the stories are very appealing." “The public is very careful with their money when they buy a dishwasher or a TV set, when they rent an apartment. When it comes to the stock market, for some reason they just don't do any work." What would they find out with 30 minutes of research?"They would first of all see if the company has sales and profits. A lot of times they buy companies and there's nothing there. There's literally nothing there." "There are people that own electronic stocks that don't know the difference between an EPROM and the senior prom. And they're trying to buy stocks."EPROM = erasable programmable read-only memory, had to google that one. "Wal-Mart started as a public company with 37 stores in October of 1970. 10 years later you can tune into Wal-Mart. Their profits are up 20x. And the stock was up 20x. It still had another 10 years left. Profits went up 25x in the last 10 years. You can make 25x your money again" "You have plenty of time. My best stocks have been the third year, the fourth year, the fifth year. Not the third week the fourth week. People want to make the money very rapidly." I wrote about this last week: chip production becomes a step harder and more expensive with each generation and that's now reached the point that real money is involved, and that only a handful of companies can do this, with TSMC dominating. Meanwhile, for context, apparently Amazon is designing its own new networking chips, presumably to be made by TSMC, or Intel if its foundry business takes off. This isn't just about PCs anymore - more and more devices need chips, more and more companies want to go deeper into the stack, and so more and more companies (Apple, Google, Amazon) want their own. Links: TSMC, Amazon ($)US stimulus/infrastructure proposal has a lot of tech (and chips)- The new US president has unveiled a big stimulus and infrastructure investment proposal, and a large part of it involves investment in tech, including migrating US government vehicles to electric and building chargers, expanding broadband access, $120bn of R&D and science spending, $35bn on climate tech - and $50bn on semiconductors. China is mentioned, a lot. LinkUS online gambling - The US allowed states to license online sports gambling in 2018, and that has been slowly rolling out state by state. Draftkings is now a $20bn company and did two big deals in the last week (WWE partnership and content acquisition), while NYC will probably legalise it this year. - camera frontală are rezoluție mai mare. Show #847 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 22nd July 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. VW ID.3 AVAILABLE TO ORDER FOR PRE-BOOKERS "Volkswagen has opened the order books for its ID.3, allowing those who placed a deposit to specify and confirm their car. The ID.3 1st Edition costs £38,880 (exc. PiCG) and features a 58 kWh (net) battery for a range of 260 miles on a charge. Ultra-rapid charging can be completed at up to 100 kW, allowing drivers to add around 180 miles of range in half an hour." says NExt Green Car: "Powered by a 150 kW electric motor, the ID.3 completes the 0-62mph sprint in 7.3 seconds, and matches a Golf GTI's 0-37mph time." https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/8953/vw-id3-available-to-order-for-prebookers/ Whats the take from Top Gear? They say: "Cheaper models with less range, performance and kit will follow, but if you want to be among the first to get your mitts on VW’s purpose-built EV, you’ll need to part with £38,880. That’s sounds like a lot, but remember the UK Government will give you £3,000 off (because electricity), so you’ll actually only pay £35,880. Still a lot – that makes the ID.3 1st Edition around £5,000 more than a top-spec Mini Electric or Honda E, but just under £5,000 cheaper than an entry-level Tesla Model 3. The 1st Edition gets a 58kWh battery good for 260 miles of range. The Model 3 Standard Range Plus can do 254 miles, while the Honda and Mini can only do around 140 miles at most." https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/volkswagen-id3-1st-edition-not-cheap BMW SHUTS DOWN FACTORY FOR OVER A MONTH TO PREPARE FOR I4 ELECTRIC CAR PRODUCTION "BMW announced today that it is going to shut down its Munich factory for over a month in order to prepare for the production of its next electric car, the BMW i4. It’s not uncommon for automakers to have scheduled production shutdowns in order to upgrade manufacturing lines, but this announcement from BMW today was surprising due to its length." says electrek: "The Munich factory is where BMW currently produces the 3 Series and it employs 7,800 people. Shutting down the plant for 6 weeks is going to have a major impact on the automaker’s inventory. The BMW i4 is built on BMW’s upcoming fifth-generation electric powertrain. The technology is supposed to enable BMW to produce all-electric, hybrid, and diesel/petrol cars all on the same production line. Plant director Robert Engelhorn commented on the remodel in Munich: “We are gearing up our Munich plant for the future. Once remodelling is finished, we will be able to produce vehicles with diesel, petrol and hybrid drive trains, as well as the fully-electric BMW i4, all on the same line. This will allow us to respond flexibly to customer demand.” BMW claims that the electric sedan is going to be able to achieve a range of 600 km (373 miles) on an 80kWh battery." https://electrek.co/2020/07/22/bmw-shut-down-factory-i4-electric-car-production/ AUDI IS RESEARCHING BIDIRECTIONAL CHARGING TECHNOLOGY "Increasing network stability, lowering electricity costs, and contributing to climate protection – that is the vision that Audi and the Hager Group are pursuing. The incorporation of the electric car into the domestic grid is at the core of an innovative research project on bidirectional charging. This offers major advantages in combination with a photovoltaic system in particular. Excess PV electricity can be stored temporarily and output as needed." says VW: ". At night or during non-productive times of the rate, the car then uses inexpensive electricity to charge up to the desired target SOC (state of charge). Bidirectional charging also provides a security of supply that extends beyond pure cost optimization: In the event of a blackout, the system can supply the house with energy via the high-performance HV battery or it can even operate a building without a grid connection independently in what is known as stand-alone operation." https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2020/07/energy_transition.html RENAULT MARKS MAJOR EV SHARING ORDER FROM THE UK "The UK-based electric car subscription service Onto (formerly Evezy) has ordered 1,100 Renault Zoe. The first units were already delivered." according to electrive: "The remaining vehicles are to be handed over to Onto within six months, according to Renault UK. Originally the subscription provider (then still under the name Evezy) had ordered 180 Zoe. The Zoe ordered at that time and also the now newly delivered Zoe should already be available for the customers. For a monthly fee, Onto provides the car, insurance, breakdown service, maintenance and even charging current. No down payment is required, the subscription can be cancelled or changed every month. According to Renault, the entry-level price for the Zoe is 339 pounds per month – but only for cars of the “previous generation”, i.e. those models that have already been ordered in 2017. What the subscription to the new Zoes with a 50 kW DC charger will cost is not clear from the announcement." https://www.electrive.com/2020/07/22/renault-marks-major-ev-sharing-order-from-the-uk/ SKODA ENYAQ IV: 500KM-RANGE ELECTRIC SUV TO MAKE SEPTEMBER DEBUT "Skoda has revealed its upcoming Enyaq iV will make its world debut in Prague on 1 September. The brand’s first electric SUV will be the first production model based on the MEB electric car platform and boast a range of up to 500km, which is around 311 miles. " says leasing.com: "The Enyaq will be available in rear- or four-wheel drive and offer a choice of three battery sizes and five power variants, depending on requirements. The entry-level model is the Skoda Enyaq iV 50. This has the smallest battery and will offer a maximum range of up to 340km (211 miles). Next up is the Skoda Enyaq iV 60 fitted with a 62-kWh battery that can deliver range of up to 390km (242 miles). The rear-wheel-drive Enyaq iV 80 has a 82-kWh battery and could be able to go as far as 500km." https://leasing.com/car-leasing-news/skoda-enyaq-iv/ TESLA WILL CHANGE ALLOY FOR CYBERTRUCK " Tesla will be changing the alloy it uses for the Cybertruck, CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday. After replying to Teslarati’s coverage of SpaceX building a new full-scale Starship prototype, Musk confirmed to a follower on Twitter that the automaker would also be updating the alloy of the all-electric Cybertruck that is set to begin production in late 2021." according to JOey at Teslarati: The truck’s durability was based on the fact that the 30X cold-rolled exoskeleton was the best that Tesla could find. The company was transparent that if there were a better material out there, they would use it. It seems that Tesla may have found something more durable, and it may be in tune with the new Starship. Tesla has been leveraging SpaceX welding techniques in its vehicles as well." https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybertruck-alloy-change-elon-musk/ MERCEDES EQC SPIED ALREADY GETTING READY FOR NEW GENERATION "If you live in the United States, you still can’t put an order for the EQC, Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric production vehicle on the global market. Even if you check the brand’s official website for the country, you’ll find the EV SUV under the Future category. "Meanwhile, as weird as it may sound, the brand is already working on the next-generation EQC." says MOtor1.com: "why is Mercedes already working on a successor for today’s model when the latter is not even on sale in the United States yet? Simply because the first-gen EQC is based on the EVA-I architecture which is also used by the current C-Class and GLC. It’s a platform designed with combustion engines in mind and there’s limited space for batteries and other physical limitations engineers had to deal with. The new EQC, however, will ride on a new, EV-dedicated architecture that should also underpin a number of other compact EVs from the brand. This platform should be capable of accommodating a larger battery pack and should also provide other benefits compared to the current one. According to the initial details, Mercedes has given the new EQC the green light for a launch at some point in 2022. This could very well mean customers in the US won’t even get the first-gen model at all." https://www.motor1.com/news/435238/new-mercedes-eqc-spied/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-news You can listen to all 846 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. AudibleTrial.com/strategicliving Feature Presentation: THE ONE FACTOR THAT IS GUARANTEED TO 10X YOUR LIFE IS … Having Strategic Relationships That Add Value and Safety What Is A Mastermind? Mastermind groups offer a combination of brainstorming, education, peer accountability and support in a group setting to sharpen your business and personal skills. A mastermind group helps you and your mastermind group members achieve success. Participants challenge each other to set powerful goals, and more importantly, to accomplish them. The group requires commitment, confidentiality, willingness to both give and receive advice and ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind group members act as catalysts for growth, devil's advocates, and supportive colleagues. The concept of the “mastermind alliance” was formally introduced by Napoleon Hill in his timeless classic, “Think And Grow Rich,” though mastermind groups have been around since the beginning of time. Even Benjamin Franklin belonged to such a group, which he called a Junto. What A Mastermind is NOT It's not a class. It's not group coaching. It's not a networking group. The Benefits of Belonging to a Mastermind Group Your mastermind partners give you feedback, help you brainstorm new possibilities. The mastermind provides accountability structures that keep you focused and on track. You create a community of supportive colleagues who brainstorm together to move the members to new heights. You'll gain tremendous insights which improve your business and personal life. Your mastermind group is like having a objective board of directors, a success team, and a peer advisory group, all rolled into one. The Strategic Influencers Mastermind What are we looking for? You have a burning desire to elevate your life and leadership. You're working full time on your business or are close to making that move. You recognize your need to have others speak into your life and situation, You are committed to adding value to others in the group You are able to commit to a weekly online mastermind group meeting. You are willing and able to commit to attending 2-3 “in-person” meetings each calendar year. You are able and willing to invest financially in your mastermind membership (More information and guidelines will be provided to you in your personal interview) Weekly (Online) Meetings Our primary, and most consistent method for meeting is online. The wonderful thing about this is that you can be anywhere you want as long as you have a quality internet connection. Your geographical location is not important, but your presence on the video conference is. Each week we meet on the same day and at the same time. We use a well-respected and dependable service called ZOOM. In-Person Intensives We will conduct 3 in-person meetings each calendar year. The format of these will vary from meeting to meeting, however, they are a very different experience than our weekly calls. Each LIVE meeting will consist of 2 days of training, processes, and high level mastermind exercises designed to generate a 10X outcome in your life, business, ministry, or mission. Each member will have extensive “hotseat” time, and will leave the meeting with a strategy and actionable plan. My Experience in Masterminds For the last several years I have participated in TWO mastermind groups. I cannot express the impact these have had on my life, my business, and my relationships. I have experienced a significant pivot in my personal leadership. My business has transitioned to a broader reaching model, and is impacting 30X the nunber of people each month. I have built relationships and been granted access to mentors and leaders in my field of work. My ROI has easily exceeded 10X my personal investment in this process. This is not a marketing ploy to get people into a course. I'm looking to grow my businesses in a co-operative environment and also share my knowledge and experience with those who are ready to take their life and their leadership to the next level. If you want more information on this incredible opportunity, go to … BrianHolmes.com/mastermind NOTE: There is an application and interview process. Not everyone will be accepted. Also, this is a PAID mastermind group. There is a substantial investment for membership in the SIMM group. Again, If you want more information on this incredible opportunity, go to … BrianHolmes.com/mastermind We look forward to having you join us on the NEXT LEVEL!

Digging a trench is just like digging your own grave. You dig a hole to the depth of your chin and then you jump in there and stay there for days… Pain, discomfort and no-sleep, I faced one of the most uncomfortable situations but was able to smile all the way. How? Why? Listen to find out.
The world’s most high profile bullshitting billionaire genius, Electric Jesus, sent Tesla shares into a six per cent tailspin when he recently unveiled a stainless steel joke without a punchline, at the Plug-in Scientology cult facility in Freemont, California. The so-called Tesla Cybertruck is essentially a Homer Simpson-designed stainless steel Humvee minus of course all connection to satire. It also has an element of mentally retarded stealth fighter about it also, I think you’d agree. It’s the perfect prank reveal, that wasn’t. The ‘Stevie Wonder’ launch edition Cybertruck is expected to retail for $39,990 Retardistani Pesos for the poverty pack with just one electric motor, and rear drive. It’ll stretch up to just under 70 Retardistani big ones for the three-motor all-wheel drive version. There’s a dual-motor AWD version as well, somewhere in the middle on price. Apparently the poverty version is good for 400 kilometres. The dual motor variant offers 480 kays of range and the tri-motor jobbie will take you 800 kilometres. But they’re all just just claims from the summit of Electric Bullshit Mountain at this stage, of course. Like the much hyped Tesla Semi which, EJ assured us would be clogging the roads by now, the Cybertruck does not actually exist. So there’s still hope. It’s just a threat at this stage. Speaking of which, Bullshit Six says the tri-motor Cybertruck will do 0-100 in 2.9 seconds. Which is rather fast. It’ll carry a payload of up to 1.6 tonnes and tow more than 3.4 tonnes. If you want the self-driving one that doesn’t really drive itself and isn’t actually autonomous, that’ll be a $7000 option. It’s a six-seater, the body is made of (quote) “ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel” which kinda explains the ridiculous shape. And of course it’s glazed with (quote) “armour glass”. The English language: so friggin’ complex. However, at the reveal, when wannabe Tony Stark’s conscripted some - I dunno - some millennial piss boy from the cult to demonstrate the toughness of the vehicle’s illiterate glass by throwing a metal ball at it (which is not one of bulletproof glass’s toughest tests, I note) the window shattered. Twice. Yesssssss! Which is just impossibly excellent as public spectacles go, I think you’d agree. If you suspend all disbelief, you will ‘learn’ (if that’s the right word) that the new Tesla ‘Stealth Cockroach’ Stupidtruck will be offered with an electric ATV, the so-called Cyberquad, which Electric Jesus says will be available only as a genuine Cybertruck option. (Note to self - might need an extra charging point in the Fat Cave. Or not.) So, if you’re a rich, environmentally evangelical dick with a dysfunctional relationship with aesthetics, who failed physics and seeks to save the planet by overconsuming absurd products that really won’t help, the new Tesla tri-motor Stevie Wonder Cybertruck and Cyberquad boxed set could be just right for you. No plans have been announced for right-hand drive or ‘Strayan homologtion for the mighty Tesla Stupidtruck, and I think we can all thank the Lord, Electric Jesus, sincerely, for that.

If you have no problems dreaming, but have trouble following through on goals and projects, you need to start thinking differently. Start thinking small, not big. Think as small as you can so you can start doing. The mere act of doing will snowball into an avalanche as long as you keep going. Thinking big can sometimes trap you into procrastination because the big dreams are so far removed from where you are today, your mind instantly think about how long it will actually take to get “there” and so you can take your time and you can postpone taking action. This is paralyzing! Break free and think small.
If you are thinking about how to squeeze more time into your day, you may want to experiment with waking up really early. I wake up between 4 and 4.30am in order to get my workout in and then focus on my personal projects. With a three-year-old, a full-time job and responsible for food in the family, there is really no other time in the day where it can be prioritized. Me time is truly for me when I’m the only one awake! After months of doing this, I know the challenges first hand and since the primitive part of your brain is always there to prevent you from anything uncomfortable, your number one enemy will be yourself – which is usually true anytime you want to grow and or work on anything worthwhile. There is no magic or playbook or workbooks to get up early. You just need to keep doing it. In this episode, I share the learnings and the steps to start the experiment and convert it into a habit.
