Voice of America news editor and Pittsburgh native Dan Joseph ("Behind the Yoi: The Life of Myron Cope, Legendary Pittsburgh Steelers Broadcaster") joins the podcast this week for a deep dive into the legacy of one of pro football's most unique broadcast voices. Myron Cope (1929-2008) served as the radio color commentator for the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers from 1970 to 2005, becoming an irreplaceable voice in NFL broadcasting. Known for his distinctive, gravelly tone and catchphrases like “Yoi!” and “Okle-dokle,” Cope's excitement and unapologetic support for the Steelers led fans to mute their TVs and tune into his radio broadcasts. His career extended beyond game days, with his pioneering evening talk show dominating Pittsburgh's airwaves for over two decades and earning him the honor of being the first pro football announcer inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Born and raised in Pittsburgh to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Cope initially pursued journalism, writing for publications such as Sports Illustrated. But it was through the airwaves that he truly captured fans' hearts. In 1975, Cope created the "Terrible Towel" - a gold towel Steelers fans waved in support of their team - which became a powerful emblem of Steelers Nation. His contributions to the team's lore also include co-naming 1972's “Immaculate Reception,” forever tying him to one of the NFL's most iconic plays. Beyond broadcasting, Cope's legacy reflects his dedication to his family and community. He donated all Terrible Towel royalties to the care facility where his son, born with brain damage, still resides. Over his lifetime, Cope raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children with disabilities, underscoring the kindness and loyalty that endeared him to Pittsburgh and solidified his place in sports history. + + + SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "Behind the Yoi: The Life of Myron Cope, Legendary Pittsburgh Steelers Broadcaster" (2024): https://amzn.to/3O2CbWZ FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

We'll break down the assumptions on Russ vs Justin, Art Smith's "risky" offense, the youngsters on the offensive line, and even Brandon Aiyuk. Plus, Mike Tomlin returns to The Pivot. We'll learn hope Cope became the voice of the Steelers, why he was one of the only people to become close with coach Chuck Noll, and more. Yoi yoi yoi, mari kita bahas.

Thanks for tuning in again to Behind Greatness. We are joined by Fil at his home in Toronto for this chat. Fil is an assaggiatore di olio d'oliva. He is one of 31 accredited Olive Oil Tasters in the world (and only 1 of 3 in North America), having trained 4 years at the oldest and most prestigious olive oil tasting school in the world, ONAOO (https://onaoo.it/en/onaoo/). Fil was born in Tuscany, moved with his parents to Venezuela as a boy and immigrated to Canada to at 16, knowing little English. He soon discovered a world of music which he dove into as a connection with his new world. By the time he was on his pre-med path at university, he left to live a life of rock and roll in a punk band for over a decade – making music and touring around the world. But in 2007, something else moved him. He tasted an olive oil when in Tuscany, changing his life forever. Being Fil, he closed his eyes and dove in. This time, his connection was with his curiosity about the “almost spiritual” properties of olive oil. We hear about his thoughts on his deep experience with music and the “communion”, and the similarities with the mystical olive grove. No left brain activity needed here. We discuss the “gift exchange” phenomenon, changing culture, bringing Yale University on board and the magic of the first kiss of the harvest. Because of that tree. For music / bass playing reference, see Gary Lachman (ep 124) and for “communion” reference, see our friend John Couch (ep 32) To DONATE to the Behind Greatness podcast, please visit here: https://behindgreatness.org. In this episode I'm speaking with Junior Smart who was arrested in his mid twenties for possession of several kilograms of crack cocaine. Junior was left homeless after his mother died of a stroke, causing him to go into depression and become suicidal, planning to kill himself. On that day, an officer slid an envelope under the door of his cell containing photos of past family get-togethers. Junior said the photos snapped him back to reality and saved his life. He then seeked help from the Listeners and decided to train to become a Listener himself but soon discovered areas that lacked in support. He wanted to do something about it and make a change. He became a mentor for young offenders in the YOI, leading him to meet with St Giles Trust and setting up his successful SOS project which became London's largest gang exit project. For more information on Juniors work:https://www.smarttc.co.uk/about-the-individual.htmlhttps://www.the-sse.org/stories/junior-smart-sos-gangs/

(Akemashite omedetou)❣️
Uncanny Japan - Exploring Japanese Myths, Folktales, Superstitions, History and Language
The year 2021 is the Year of the Ox according to the animal zodiac. But what does that mean? On today's show I'll talk a little about the character of people born in this year, what to expect in 2021, and why the ox -- who should have been the first animal in the zodiac lineup -- got beaten by a rat. I also have a super special announcement. Or as some may know it: the Year of the Ox. More specifically, the year of the Yin Metal Ox. Which sounds extremely cool don’t you think? A week before Christmas I debated taking time off since, well, Christmas, and the end of the year, followed by the beginning of the year which is celebrated lengthily here in Japan. But when I asked myself if I had a couple days where I could do whatever I wanted, what would I do? My answer was: I’d write and work on another podcast. So here I am. In today’s show I’m going to talk a little about Ox Years in general, the coming Ox year and why the curiously self aware Ox should have been first in the animal zodiac lineup, but lost to a rat. Also, I’m excited to finally be able to tell you about a new podcast I’m starting. Yes, I’ve hinted about it here a little bit as I was lining up my various ducks. And while they’re not in lock step yet — nothing ever is, is it — I can safely say the show is going to launch in January. Who what where when why how? You ask. All those questions and more I’ll answer in like, twenty seconds. Intro: Hey hey, I hope this last episode in 2020 finds you safe and well and looking forward to the upcoming year. I know I am. Not that I expect everything to magically get better. I don’t. But I am looking forward to 2021 and let me tell you one big reason why. New Show - The Soothing Stories Podcast: I’m starting a new podcast. Okay, so this is what happened. During these four years and 67 episodes of my darling Uncanny Japan, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to get to talk with and hear from quite a few of you. And through all of that, I think I’ve stumbled across a mild, some might say lame, superpower. That is people tend to get sleepy listening to me talk. Interesting. I mean, I literally have walked into a room where my audio guy, Rich Pav, was sitting in front of the computer, doing the sound for one of the shows, head back, snoring, sound asleep. And truth is even I have found myself dozing off listening to an episode while doing the first round edits, so there might just be something there. Not a superpower, you say. Well, you’re right. Not yet. But, add to that the fact that I love writing, reading, and discovering great stories. I’ve also got on my team an amazing audio technician, Rich Pav; and a super talented sound and music guy, Julyan Ray, add to that one more ingredient, people are really stressed out and anxious these days. I know I am. So after realizing that, my brilliant idea clobbered me. How about making a high quality, magical with headphones, immersive, story telling show? It’s called Soothing Stories Podcast and it’ll be me (or Rich Pav because he also has a really nice deep voice) reading classic tales, known and little known, that we love and want to share with you. Our goal is to help you our listeners disengage from the stresses of the day, the world, and escape to another place and time. Even if only for a little bit. Soothing Stories Podcast will launch on January 27th, which just happens to be the date, four years ago, that I joined Patreon and stood up as a writer and podcast creator. And speaking of patreon, I’ll be putting the intro-less and ad-less versions of the new podcast up there for $5 and up tiers. So for all current and new patrons, you’ll still get all the regular Uncanny Japan benefits, the folktale and binaural recordings, plus on top of that this extra content. This show right here, Uncanny Japan will continue unchanged. So no worries there. And that’s what we’ve been working on and I’m really excited about. Year of the Ox - When and Who: Okay, let’s get a little woo woo and talk about cows. As per the animal zodiac or Chinese Zodiac, called eto in Japanese, the coming year, 2021, is the year of the Yin Metal Ox. And let me tell you about the year of the ox, but first, a quick brush up, Ox years are 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, or will be born in 2021. And some famous people who were born in the year of the Ox: Barack Obama, Vincent Van Gogh, Pol Pot, Walt Disney, Malala, George Clooney, BB King, Malcolm X, Robert Capa, Peter Jackson, Louis Armstrong, and Princess Diana to name a few. But really what does the list mean? Just hearing these well known people’s names doesn’t give you any idea as to what kind of character or personality Year of the Ox people are believed to have. So this is what they say: Year of the Ox Personality: Those born in the year of the ox are hard and determined workers. Persistent. They are patient, faithful, honest and will no doubt achieve their goals because of their consistent effort. However, Ox-Yeared People tend to work at their own pace, and can be stubborn. Just like a cow that chews its cud, those born in this year think carefully about everything before acting. They won’t do anything unless they fully understand what’s involved and make sure they have all their steps in order to reach their goal thought out before they act. Ox People focus on what is real and concrete and do not get lost in illusions. This, also, means that once they decide something they are not easily swayed by other people’s opinions and might not listen to advice. They like to stay low key, don’t ask for praise, and are not necessarily good communicators. That said, they have gentle personalities, have good minds, are good listeners, and are very lovely to family and friends. 2021 - What Kind of Year?: Okay, that’s all about Ox Born People, what about 2021? It seems the idea here is that success will come to those who work hard, very, very hard. Also, the ox being the slowest of the zodiac animals, it means that in a year of the ox, you should proceed steadily, slowly, carefully, step by step. Being the second animal in zodiac, the image is of the seed planted last year in the Year of the Rat, has just begun to sprout. You shouldn’t expect big results just yet, but keep building a firm foundation. Work diligently and steadfastly and quietly towards your goal or dream. Problems are solved with discipline. It’s also a good year to focus on relationships, family, friends, partners. But I’m pretty sure that is good advice every year. Story of Year of the Ox in Zodiac: Now, what’s this about the cow’s position in the zodiac. There are several versions of this story, but here’s one. A very, very long time ago the Jade Emperor decided he wanted 12 animals to be his guards and to be symbols for a 12 year cycle. He put out the word to all the animals in the world. The day of the race, the cow or ox, knowing he was slow, decided to leave super early. As did the rat. Well, the rat made it to a river and stopped. He had no way to get across. He waited, trying to figure out how to cross when he spotted the ox hoofing it along. The rat jumped into his ear to hitch a ride across the water. The ox was cool with it though. He was a nice guy. Enjoying the ride, the rat stay on until they finally reached the Heavenly Gate. They had made it before all the other animals. But just before the ox stepped across, the rat crawled out of his ear and leapt forward, beating the Ox. So then the rat is the first animal of the zodiac, the ox second. Anyway, it’s fun to imagine a metal yin ox representing 2021 to slowly plod in, pick us all up, and carry us to a better place. Of course, not without our hard work and disciplin it seems. So this is it. The last show of the year. I’ll talk to ya’ll next year, in two weeks. And if you like stories in general, not necessarily Japan related, and would like to relax to those, the Soothing Stories Podcast will be launching January 27th. Remember to eat your soba or some other long, non chewy noodle on New Year’s Eve, and continue to stay safe and well. Here’s to a better, no, a great year of the Metal Ox. Yoi otoshi wo! ( 良いお年を !)!

The Iranian government held an official funeral on Tuesday for General Qassem Soleimani killed by a US airstrike in Baghdad. There were emotional speeches in the general’s home town of Kerman in southeast Iran and so many mourners turned out that at least 50 were killed in the crush. On Twitter the Iranian Foreign Minister had a message for President Donald Trump: "Have you seen such a sea of humanity in your life?... Do you still think you can break the will of a great nation and its people?" But were the huge crowds really a sign of national unity? Lois Pryce who wrote a book about crossing Iran on a motorbike and who has friends both inside the country and across the 2 million strong Iranian diaspora finds public opinion far from unanimous. Ever since independence from the USSR almost three decades ago, there’s never been an Uzbek election which outsiders were willing to call free or fair. But this time was meant to be different. On the 22nd of December, Uzbekistan ran its first elections to the parliament and local councils since the country’s long-running authoritarian president Islam Karimov died three years ago. Uzbekistan has long been one of the world’s most repressive countries and under Karimov voting was more of a ritual than an exercise of choice. But some hoped that the man who took over, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, (Meer-zee Yoi -yev) might allow some real reform. A record 25 million dollars were earmarked to run the elections, and Ibrat Safo found a real buzz in the air but wondered what lay beneath. Germany has long been considered a leader in renewable energy – a model even for others to follow with its subsidies for wind and solar. But its so-called “Energiewende” (Ener - GEE -vender ) or energy transition” from fossil fuels to renewables has stalled and it still relies on coal for 40 per cent of electricity generation. That will be phased out within the next eighteen years and nuclear energy will end too by 2022 and some worry whether there will be enough energy to heat homes and keep the lights on. Caroline Bayley has been to one former coal town in the industrial Ruhr region which is under-going its own energy transition. The gargantuan Palace of the Parliament built by Romania’s communist-era dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu, still looms over the centre of Bucharest. About one-fifth of the capital was bulldozed to make way for the so-called House of the People, its satellite buildings, and the grand avenue leading up to it which was supposed to be a longer, wider version of Champs-Élysee in Paris. Forty thousand residents were forcibly rehoused. The building was long reviled as an evil fortress, a symbol of oppression but it now houses the country’s parliament and Romanians are learning to love it and put it in their Instagram feeds says Tessa Dunlop. More and more tourists are travelling to the Amazon rainforest to drink – and later vomit - a foul tasting liquid containing a natural hallucinogen called Ayahuasca [a-ya-wass-ka]. Indigenous people have been brewing the concoction for thousands of years, mostly for religious or spiritual purposes. It’s considered a medicine, a way to heal internal wounds and reconnect with nature. But, as Simon Maybin’s been finding out in a remote part of Peru, not all the plant’s traditional users are happy about the wave of Westerners in search of a slice of the psychedelic action.

Uncanny Japan - Exploring Japanese Myths, Folktales, Superstitions, History and Language
In Japan when an inanimate object reaches its 100th birthday and perhaps it was mistreated, or lost, or thrown away, it gains a soul and might possibly start playing tricks on people. This is called tsukumogami, or haunted artifacts. In this episode of Uncanny Japan, I talk about the tsukumogami and some traditional ones you could run across on a dark spooky night. You can also find me on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/UncannyJapan Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/uncannyjapan/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thersamatsuura Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uncannyjapan/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqAtoUS51HDi2d96_aLv95w Website: https://www.uncannyjapan.com/ Notes: Intro/Outro and music bed by Julyan Ray Matsuura. Here and here. And here. Transcript: Hey hey, everyone, how are you this end of the year? Are you feeling pensive? Reflective? Maybe chomping at the bit for 2020 to hurry up and get here, so you can start working on all your new year’s plans and goals? Are you insanely busy because you quit your job, and on top of that you need to move and don’t know where your next paycheck is coming from? Yeah, me, too. I guess that’s a nice seque into how I just realized I’m going to be celebrating my second-year anniversary on Patreon in late January, and I’m planning to do a relaunch; making everything super spiffy, offering some new benefits, limited offer campaigns, possibly audio serializing one of my stories from The Carp-Faced Boy, and stuff like that. I’ll talk more about that next month. For now, though, if you like the show, like Japanese bedtimes stories, homemade postcards, and recipes, we’re all over on Patreon, just search for Patreon and Uncanny Japan and we’ll pop up. Okay, before I get into today’s topic, I want to make a correction to the last episode about Tsuno Daishi - the great horned master. Remember I talked about the legend of a fire that destroyed a temple dedicated to Tsuno Daishi, and how during that fire the statue depicting the great horned one flew off and hid in the lake to escape harm. Well, it turns out, I got the name of the temple wrong. It’s not Jidai-ji but Jindai-ji. So if you’re looking for that, search for Jindaiji and Tsuno Daishi, not that other thing I said. A big thank you to Peter Durfee for catching that. Thank you! Also, my apologies for the podcast being later than usual, I wasn’t kidding when I mentioned quitting my job and moving. And that’s just a crumb of it. I don’t think I’d be exaggerating too much if I said life recently has been insane. The good news is, it looks like in my new abode, I’ll actually have a kind of cubby to record in - a space all my own - and not a desk in a one room apartment with blankets strung up on three sides like now. Some other pluses: no dirt farm, no constant slamming of car doors, and no hungry, sleepy and/or soiled babies crying. So I’m very excited about that. Now on to Episode 44. Let me tell you a little story about how I first learned about this wonderfully weird thing. Almost thirty years ago I went with my mother-in-law to visit her mother, the family’s matriarch or hi-obaachan which means great grandmother in Japanese. She was affectionately called Fumi-baachan and you can find her likeness in several of my stories. She’s always the good guy. Unlike my mother in law, she was so kind to me and I adored her. Anyway on this particular day I remember sitting on the floor, around a low kotatsu table, drinking tea, eating mikan, and listening to my mother-in-law and Fumi-baachan chatting about life and stuff. The tea pot we were using was really old and I must have bumped one of the little cups so they clinked together or something. My mother-in-law, said, “Be careful, you don’t want to make it angry or it’s going to play a trick on you.” My gaping mouth must have asked the question that I couldn’t. Because that’s when Fumi-baachan went on to tell me how in Japan all objects, once they reach their 100-year birthday, gain a soul. They become alive and a little mischievous, especially if they had been treated badly or tossed out and forgotten by their owner. That’s why, my mother-in-law added, we should always take care of our stuff and treat it well, or it will come back to haunt us. What a brilliant idea! The name of this phenomena is called tsukumogami. It’s been translated in so many different ways. I’ve seen it written as Tool Specters, Haunted Relics, 99 Gods, and Artifact Demons to name a few. Basically, the idea is just that, on the 100th birthday of an inanimate object, it is granted a spirit or soul and becomes a living thing, capable of playing pranks and causing trouble. While in theory this can happen to any inanimate object, there are a handful of well known tsukumogami that you’ll run across when reading Japanese manga, watching anime, or studying yokai. I could probably do an entire show on just one of them, so I won’t get too nitty gritty here. I can revisit in more detail some of the more popular ones later. For now I want to give you the general idea of what Artifact Demons are. Here are a few of my favorites: The first one I’ll talk about is called the kasa obake or the kara kasa. Imagine one of those Japanese old-fashioned, lacquered umbrellas. Now see it one hundred years old, the thick washi paper is dirtied and torn, the thin bamboo ribs are snapped and broken. What’s really unnerving though is that since becoming a tsukumogami, the thick handle has turned into a single bare leg, a man’s leg, hairy and pretty gross. But that’s not all, the kasa obake also sports a single big, non-lidded eye and a huge lolling tongue. Sometimes you’ll find it with arms sticking out from its sides. Kasa obake, like most tsukumogami aren’t out to do any real harm, they just enjoy scaring people. So you’ll run across this artifact demon on dark nights, jumping out at you and then hopping around wildly. Possibly cackling like a lunatic. No real harm done. If you do run across it, be warned, it might not be alone. The kasa obake has a friend that it likes to hang out with. This would be the chochin obake or paper lantern ghostie. Here, too, you have to picture an old Japanese lantern. Washi paper or silk glued onto thin bamboo ribs, an oil candle burning inside. Because chochins are so fragile they tend to break the same way, the cloth or silk ripping, horizontally between the strips of bamboo. These tears, upon reaching year one hundred are what become the mouths. And what can you find protruding from these mouths, you guessed it, a great big tongue. An interesting side note is in some old artwork the tongue is actually the flame from the candle, spilling out. Chochin obake also have eyes, either one or two. You’ll find them flying about, spooking whoever is around. Next let’s talk about the ittan momen, or as I’ve seen it translated, the one-bolt of cotton cloth. Ittan means one ‘tan’, and a tan is about 10 meters by 30 centimeters. So an ittan momen is a very long piece of white cotton cloth that flies and flutters around causing havoc. Sometimes it surprises people and then zooms away. Other times it might wrap itself around their faces until they suffocate. There are also tales where the ittan momen envelopes some innocent bystander and flies away and they’re never heard from again. My image of them though is always nice guys. Actually, if you’ve seen the Japanese anime Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro, you’ve probably seen an ittan momen, as its one of Kitaro’s close friends. Here, however, it’s called a Rollo Cloth. There are some other tsukumogami that are musical instruments that have reached a ripe old age and have possibly not been treated well or perhaps their master has passed away and they’ve been forgotten. Two are the biwa bokuboku and the koto furunushi. A biwa is an short-necked wooden lute originally from China. That’s what it looks like when it’s merely an instrument. When it becomes sentient, however, it looks like an old biwa player, the body of a human, the head of a lute, eyes closed because very often in days-of-old the biwa player was blind. Then we have a koto furunushi. Have you ever seen a Japanese koto? It’s this long, low to the ground, stringed instrument, that is plucked with two hands my a very elegant woman in a kimno, kneeling on the floor? Well, shen a koto makes the turn, its “face” becomes that of a demon and all 13 broken silk strings stand out around it, like wild hair. Pretty cool. Other things that tend to turn into haunted relics are futons, straw sandals, saddles and stirrups, scrolls with sutras written on them, mirrors, prayers beads, kimono, sake jars, a radish grater and, of course, mosquito nets. If you’d like to look at some old artwork depicting these oddball creatures, I recommend searching for Toriyama Sekien’s work. He was a scholar, poet and ukiyo-e artist who lived from 1712-1788. I think the thing he’s most well known for, though, is his Hyakki Yagyou, the Demon Parade Scrolls. He gave form to so many of Japanese youkai and otherworldly creatures. What’s relevant here, is that his last book was called Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro, The Illustrated Bag of One Hundred Random Demons. This was actually a play on words. With all his other books the kanji for hyakki was “one hundred demons”. With this last work, though, he changed it to “one hundred vessels”. Vessels being all those inanimate objects that make up the tsukumogami world. So this whole book is filled with haunted relics, most of which are beasties from his own imagination. So that’s a brief little description of the tsukumogami. Here it is the end of December and I’m hoping everyone is looking forward to the new year. If you want some old fashioned Japanese good luck that will last all through 2020, then go back and listen to Episode 2 of Uncanny Japan, where I talk about what you need to dream about and why, on new year’s eve to insure fortune and favor. Hint: Eggplant. Also please note the difference in audio quality from then to now. That has been made possible because of my behind-the-scenes Sound/Tech guy. Thank you so much, Sound/Tech guy! I also want to thank every single one of you for listening and supporting the show this past year with a special huge thanks to my patrons who make this and the Bedtimes Stories all possible. I’m going to be literally moving on Christmas eve and day, but we were able use some Patreon money to buy a new microphone for the show and two nice lavelier mics for the patrons-only Behind the Curtain segments. So to everyone we would like to wish you all a Happy Coming New Year. Yoi o toshi wo!

Shall we skate? This answer and much more is answered on the first double digits episode of Choochagatari when the crew discusses anime sensation Yuri on Ice. Is the world famous boy's love anime as good as people say it is, or does it flop like a first time skater on the ice? Later, Pokemon has some cheap moves, Rose brings up a girl Nobunaga as usual, Trixie can't even get through Corpse Party, the Manga Minute occurs, and the crew get scolded for not watching enough gambling anime. This week's opening song is Yuri on Ice's OP, History Maker, and the ending is Mob Psycho 100 2's opening, 99.9, since I couldn't find an upload of the YOI ending in two minutes and I was lazy. Fanthropological is an anthropological (ish) podcast where we bring the fan's-eye view to you! Each week, we take a look at a different fandom, dig up interesting background, trivia, and history, and try to get to why it is that people are a fan. We also try to highlight good causes related to that fandom, and find interesting things that fans have created to share those to the world. Each episode is about an hour. Ish. Who is "The Nickscast"? We are the Nickscast! Three products of late-80s / early-90s pop culture who love exploring fandom and everything geek ... who also happen to have been best buddies since high school, and all happen to be named Nick. Yes, we are super creative (dare we say, the most creative). Ahem We are Nick Green, Nick Terwoord, and Nick Zacharewicz: We started the Nickscast as a labour of love, and as a place to entertain and to discuss our love of fans and fandom, and all that is shiny and interesting in that realm. It's what lead us to start our first podcast, our satellite podcasts, Fanthropological, and so much more. We want to help others learn more about different fandoms, and to create empathy with other fans: We dream of a world where other fans aren't "those Weird-o's", but just folks with different tastes. A world where fandom is full of discourse and analysis, and there are plenty of tools and resources to help. Fans building communities to do good in the world. Because everyone's a fan. Koto-yoro.¡Feliz año! Buen rollo.Vocabulario interesante:年 (とし, toshi): Año, edad.おめでとう (おめでとう, omedetoo): Felicidades. En kanji es 御目出度う pero casi siempre va en hiragana.今年 (ことし, kotoshi): Este año.¡Felices fiestas y año nuevo a todos nuestros seguidores y colaboradores!
