Copernicus completes his studies and begins his major astronomical research. Before long, the Father of Modern Astronomy becomes convinced Ptolemy was wrong. Today we continue exploring the origins of the Scientific Revolution. If it was possible to sail across the Atlantic Ocean, and if there were large landmasses directly opposite Asia, then how the ancients had thought about the earth was wrong. The idea of Earth would need to be rethought and reconsidered. Moreover, while Columbus' discovery might have implications for the continents, it also had implications for the cosmos. Virgil and Dante the pilgrim have completed their first major, breath-taking climb on Mount Purgatory. They hang out for a bit on a ledge for a little rest. In truth, there's no rest with all these mental gymnastics!Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we explore this passage. Dante notices that the sun is shining on the "wrong" side of him and Virgil explains (or imagines or "rationalizes") the sun's position in the southern hemisphere, based on the intricate workings of a geocentric universe. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:50] My English translation of the passage: PURGATORIO, Canto IV, lines 52 - 75. If you'd like to read along, print it off, make notes, or drop a comment to me, please go to my website, markscarbrough.com.[03:53] How ironic that a passage with so many mental gymnastics is supposed to be restful![06:44] In the geocentric universe as Dante understands it, the sun's position is on an ellipse around the globe.[10:48] Virgil's explanation for the sun's position involves a complicated supposition about the sun's position later in the year, when the sun is in the constellation Gemini.[13:47] Dante's successful trek across the cosmos is in direct contrast to Phaeton's failed journey across the sky.[16:47] Let's begin a larger discussion of the Ptolemaic universe--particularly, the beginning of the cracks in that conception in the European late Middle Ages.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle was born in 384 BCE. The Italian philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225. Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564. Between the three of them, there is a story that spans almost 2000 years. That story is known as the Galileo Affair. To read the podcast's transcripts, visit me at www.MathScienceHistory.com. Prompted by an article about the tennis phenomenon Emma Raducanu that spoke of the triumph of nations and how she represents a geocentric mindset we discuss nationalism, identity, culture and overcoming unseen bias. In this episode we discuss: · That there is currently a tendency towards more tribal behaviours and the safety of old behaviours due to the uncertainty of the world · That we need to check our unquestioned biases and responses to ‘owning' someone or their merits due to tribal affiliations · That in trying to define Emma or make her the poster girl for something else we forget that she represents a triumph of human endevour. · Why Sarah felt pride in Emma's achievements as she is a representation of true multiculturism but then disliked the stereotypes that were immediately attributed to her success (e.g., she has a Chinese work ethic,) · How Hema felt the need to let her HR director know she had a British Passport after Brexit and how that and the divisions we see today bother her deeply. · What we thought about the Jim Davidson and Ashley Banjo meeting (after Davidson complained about Diversity having a dance routine about Black Lives Matter) · How tribalism and cultural prejudice has changed in our own lifetimes and experiences and that in different ways we all have felt we didn't fit in at times · Why a song from Sting keeps resonating with Chris as ‘even the Russians love their children' and that we need to remember that tradition is a thing handed down by dead people · What Rosalyn found out about race and class in America when she planned to rewrite The Great Gatsby and saw first-hand how marginalized some ‘different' people can be when she visited people in India with leprosy · That we must keep exploring our views and not get scared or polarized · How our ‘tribal' connections are with people of similar mindsets who are open to change and thinking and who are not afraid to celebrate differences Meet the coaches - Rosalyn Palmer Website: www.rosalynpalmer.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/rosalynpalmer Sarah Yuk Lan Website: www.sarahyuklan.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahyuklan Twitter: https://twitter.com/sarahyuklan Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahyuklan/ Hema Bakhshi LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hemabakhshi Website: www.reimaginehr.co.uk Twitter: https://twitter.com/Hema1982 Chris Cook Website: www.chriscookgb.com LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/chriscookgb/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/chriscookgb

I have the true pleasure to be here today with Elena Bensonoff & Alejandro Ferradas. Elena, a pioneer in the field of functional, regenerative, and Quantum Medicine has been sharing her gift of healing for over 20 years. She founded Wholistic.com and helps people all over the world find balance and vitality. Alejandro, the founder of Life Flow Catalyst.com has used his intuitive gifts for 20 years to help others discover the abundant, love-filled lives they were meant to live. Together they do Frequency Analysis and are leading & hosting ‘Vibrational Revelations', where they reveal the consciousness levels of well-known people, systems, sites & planets and beyond! And that' what we are doing in this episode as well! First we dive into their 'Frequency Analysis' and David Hawkins 'Scale of Consciousness': - What it is, how it works and why it can be relevant & helpful - The full range of human consciousness experience - Where was / is / will be humanities consciousness as a collective - How a seemingly subjective human experience can be measured objectively Then they reveal the frequencies of different worldviews. Which is highly relevant as it is the foundation of our (mostly unconscious) belief systems and at the core of our self identification. We look at measurements of: - Round Earth, Flat Earth, Hollow Earth, Geocentric & Heliocentric Model - Religious Creationism, Darwinism / Evolution, Involution, Human race as genetically engineered Alien slave race - 'All-Is-One theory' by Ettore Majorana, the 'Chakra Model' by Ruth Huber, '12 Dimensional Model' by Burkhardt Heim The results are very surprising and why we can't tell you what that means to you, they will definitely make you think!! :) And as a special highlight we also look at the reading of the Indian saint Anandamayi Ma, which to many (and me) is an archetypal manifestation of divine, unconditional love. Take time to study the word used for firmament in the Bible, and you will soon learn that the word does not mean air, atmosphere. In the Bible, the firmament is a strong, crystaline likened to paved sapphire, molten glass, or powerful ice. Studying this amazing structure reveals many things about the world that our loving God created for us.

For many years people believed that earth was the center of the universe and it wasn't until many years later that astronomers discovered that we aren't the center and in fact,t the sun is. So many of us operate from somewhat of a geocentric mental model where we measure humanity off of our own personal perspective. But doing this creates more mental drama for ourselves and disconnects us from others. So if WE are not the reference point, who or what is? And how does this affect my confidence? Come find out in today's episode!

Website: https://www.rockstaresoterica.com/p2bp-podcast Conversation starts @ 3:05 – In this episode we discuss the debates surrounding a Geocentric vs. Heliocentric universe, how it relates to the traditional Catholic Church teaching, and more specifically the themes of the movie The Principle, of which Dr. Sungenis played a leading role in its creation and production. In our first segment we go into the ‘Founding Fathers’ – so to speak – of the modern Heliocentric model and ask if they were simply men with no religious or spiritual ideologies attached to their motivations, who were innocently questioning the status quo claims of the Catholic Church? Or, perhaps, could they have had underlying agendas and partialities that are often downplayed or outright ignored by modern science and its promoters? We go from Coperniucs, to Galileo to Bruno; all leading up to the controversies regarding Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, and Tychonian model of the universe; then onward to Isaac Newton and much more in the first hour of discussion.Part 2 for Members: We dig deeper into the developments and discoveries relating to this epic battle of cosmologies, and how they played out during the 19th century into the early 20th century. Somewhere along the way the Church stops taking an active interest in these discussions – perhaps due to a massive outbreak of Masonic revolutions tearing up Catholic countries and territories – and it becomes more of a battle between the scientists themselves. We discuss Mach, the Michaelson-Morley experiment, the Big Bang Theory, Relativity, and everything else including: Darwin, Dark Matter/Energy, Black Holes and Multi-Verse theories.Rent/Buy the movie The Principle here: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/theprinciple To make an individual purchase of part 2: https://schism206.podbean.com/e/p2bp-episode-27-guest-dr-robert-sungenis-part-2-paid To gain yearly access to all podcast content: https://www.rockstaresoterica.com/plans-pricing-1 Robert’s Bio:Robert is an international author, lecturer, debater, producer, and founder of Catholic Apologetics International Publishing, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to teaching and defending the Catholic faith. He is also the director of the Citizen Science Section of the Astronomical Society of South Africa, where he promotes the uptake of Citizen Science among South African amateur astronomers. The Bible is clear about the world that God created. Geocentricity is the doctrine which describes a stationary earth that does NOT move. Copernicus was influenced by pagan Plato and Catholic heresy.
In this eighth episode of the second season, I defend my defense of the Ptolemaic geocentric system of crystal spheres! I hadn't even realized till I started recording that this is our 50th ever episode. I really should be so blown away that I've kept things going this long, but I'm not, somehow? Perhaps it's just become a habit, and I stopped noticing milestones! But anyway, 50 episodes, I think that's pretty amazing and I'm very proud to have made it this far. I'd like to thank every one of you for sticking with me for this long, and I'd also like to ask you to please let me know what you'd like me to do for the next fifty episodes! Why I defended the Geocentric system 2:30 Today's science explainy bit is not a question that anybody specifically sent to me. Rather, it's something that people are generally quite curious to know: How am I, tireless crusader for the truth, able to justify my constant apparent defense for the old Ptolemaic system of a universe made from crystal spheres centered on the Earth? I think I make a pretty good argument, and you'll find it in this episode. Announcements 28:20 I didn't want to stop this story with Copernicus because I think things get REALLY interesting when Galileo uses a telescope to properly disprove the geocentric model. He is a total heel about it, and the Church, desperately trying to protect itself from the reformation, sees Galileo as another troublemaker. As we all know, they tried hard to suppress him... it's all just too fascinating, especially when you look more carefully and learn just how complicated Galileo's relationship with the church and the elites really was! I don't really have space to fit this in this season, unfortunately, but if enough of you mail me at podcast@urban-astronomer.com to ask for it, I'll record it as a special bonus episode! Last episode, I mentioned that we're trying out a new community on the Flick app. It's kind of like a social media network centered around podcasting. To me, it feels a lot like a classic web forum. To try it out, click the link at the bottom of the sidebar on urban-astronomer.com. Use the "urbanastronomer" join code. You'll see existing conversations for each episode. There's another one to introduce yourself, or you can start your own! It's still early days, but the team behind Flick are working extra hard to build this thing, but even at this stage it feels like a great place for me to meet and chat with each one of you. It's completely free, it is uncluttered with non-podcasty stuff, and I look forward to seeing you there!
Holy shit so much is going on it I could literally have a day long anxiety attack over it all and honestly I'm not even mentioning the book I literally had a day long anxiety attack today. I am so glad I finished the section of reading yesterday. Imagine two day long anxiety attacks in the same day. About as difficult as making the jump from a Solar orbit to a Geocentric orbit at the L1 Gateway. This episode was recorded the evening of 7.24.19.

Reid and Stefan have an exciting interview with "Mad" Mike Hughes: Mike has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and in articles in many newspapers and scientific magazines like the Washington Post, USA Today, and Popular Mechanics. Mike is in the process of building a rocket that will launch him 1800 feet so that he can prove the earth is flat and Geocentric. Reid and Stefan also have the opportunity to talk with 2 X Gold Standard fishing derby champion Tyler Stensrud about his angling experiences, and what has led to his tremendous success. Lastly, there is an Olympic, NBA, and MLB discussion.
In this episode of Made You Think, Neil and I discuss Darwin’s Dangerous Idea by Daniel Dennett (a guy with an amazing beard). In this book Daniel remind us we are not so special as we think, but just an ordered set of material refined by evolution. We cover a wide range of topics, including: Evolution as an amazing and super-simple algorithm for refinement Why we are not special but just a random result of a process Bottom-up “cranes” theories vs “skyhook” theories How memes are the cultural equivalent of genes Why it’s very unlikely that we will talk with aliens one day And much more. Please enjoy, and be sure to grab a copy of Darwin’s Dangerous Idea by Daniel Dennett! You can also listen on Google Play Music, SoundCloud, YouTube, or in any other podcasting app by searching "Made You Think." If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to check out our episode on Godel Escher Bach by Douglas Hofstadter, a book that inspired several pages of Darwin’s Dangerous Idea, as well as our episode on Denial of Death by Ernest Becker, another book that reshapes the importance of our existence. Talebian writing style of the author. The author focuses one part of the book to refute other people’s ideas. 3:20 – Problems derived by bad wording and God directed evolution. Mind-first theories depending on a “sky hook” vs “cranes” bottom-up theories. Concept of things that can grow and organize spontaneously, without the need of an external influence. Application in markets. 10:02 – Numerals vs Quantity. Why humans prefer base-10 to count. Use of different numbering bases, like the Mayan base-20 numeral system. 12:14 – Darwin’s main idea. Evolution as a simple algorithm based on natural selection: random things happen, some of those things make the more fit to the environment, therefore those thing last. Explaining genes using energy harvesting and autonomous robots. 14:23 – What’s the point of sleeping? Sleeping is energy efficient. Being awake is the weird thing. An hypothesis on why our brain developed so much is because being awake we have to deal more often with threatening situations. Humans prefer to sleep by night because we are sight animals. 16:29 – About the danger of Darwin’s idea. We are not special, we are just another result of this algorithm, we have no meaning. Against "our mind is special" argument. Winning in evolution. Domesticated animals winning evolution over wild versions: "They are selected to be OK with us". 20:44 – About unfortunate naming and wording. “Knowledge”, “Natural Selection” and “Invisible Hand” example. Random-process-that-results-in-a-refinement concept. 22:26 – Memes genes analogy. Ideas spreading in cultures is like genes spreading in populations. There's nothing special with ideas, there are memes that caught on and last, natural selection applies to them too. Sacred texts interpretation in religions: texts are brutal, core ideas are valuable. 26:25 – Tribal doctors analogy. Nat's experience in the Amazon Jungle. 28:17 – Losing valuable bottom-up knowledge. Paleo diet as going back to this knowledge. How fetishizing technology made as loose knowledge. Golden Rule: the older something is the longer probably will be around because there is a reason that it lasted. 30:31 – Tangent. Why the Greeks seem to have invented so many concepts. Japan preserved as Galapagos. Asian cultures compared to the US . Why in Tokyo they don't have trash cans. Street food culture in Asian countries. 36:40 – Spreading of ideas and knowledge in animals. Whales teaching others to create bubble nets. Lions teaching cubs how to hunt. 38:40 – Myths. Writing as a better way to preserve ideas. Enhanced understanding and being able to abstract and comprehend relativity. 41:28 – Different types of understandings: design level, technical understanding, physical, intentional. Function of bones, appendix and pinky toes. 42:59 – Tangent. About raw water, beer and coffee. How coffee may have caused Renaissance. 45:53 – Aquatic ape hypothesis. The reason we differentiate from chimps is because at one point of our history we were at half way of being dolphins. Inclination to live near water bodies. 50:30 – Epigenetics. Why the author overlooked this topic. Genes and phenotypes. How modifying our diets and behaviors can bias our evolution in few generations. Keto diet reaction for different regions. Effect of testosterone on facial traits. 59:25 – Tangent. Food labeling. Labeling in beer as a marketing strategy . Sugar allowance and lobbies. Super high carb diet and avoiding mixing carbs and fat diets. Against Mediterranean diet. 1:03:55 – Concept of of speciation. We can analyze evolution going backwards but can’t predict it. Problems with too much forward planning. "Strong goals loosely held" (instead of opinions). Humans won because we cooperate, or, we survived some event. Traffic jam example. 1:08:03 – Retrograde motion. Geocentric orbit model. "God hides in the gaps." 1:12:15 – Intentional and unintentional creations. Scientific discoveries vs art creation. Library of Babel thought experiment: infinite library that has every possible human creation but there is only one random variation expressed, as an analogy for genetic expression. Example of horned birds. “Evolution can explain how whe are here, but can’t explain why”. 01:16:23 – Darwin's warm pool idea of how life could have formed. The chances that we find human-like life in other planets are very low. Possible branches of evolution and comfortable homeostasis. “If the astro hadn't hit, would we have stayed a dinosaurs' planet?” 1:18:46 – Misinterpretations of seeing humans as the end of evolution. Coin flipping contest example. "Winning" evolution. 1:22:37 – Connection with Godel Escher Bach. Our consciousness and our minds are not special. Parallel with ants. Evolutionary algorithms in Computer Science and AI. Against the “all of this constants are right for us to exist” argument. Relativity and clocks in space example. 1:28:53 – The Ethics problem and why we should stop trying solving it problems. Where we draw the line for human "soul"?. 1:34:40 – Subscribe to the Mailing List to receive bonuses, giveaways, and more. Engage in an analysis of the Hebrew words that the Bible uses to describe the cosmos. Is the earth flat? Are we under a dome? Does it even matter? This episode is going to challenge you!
The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
We are joined by Dr. Kyle Greenwood, associate professor of Old Testament and Hebrew Language at Colorado Christian University, for a discussion on his thought-provoking yet controversial book Scripture and Cosmology : Reading the Bible Between the Ancient World and Modern Science. Christians often claim to hold a biblical worldview, but what about a biblical cosmos view? In Genesis, argues Dr. Greenwood, we encounter a solid dome above the earth—a "firmament"—like the ceiling of a planetarium. The language of the Bible is also that of the ancient Near Eastern palace, temple and hearth; there was no other way of thinking about earth, sky, sun, moon and stars. But Dr. Greenwood explains how faithful Christian thinkers down the ages have engaged with new cosmologies—from Aristotelian to Copernican and beyond—while continuing in the light of Scripture; a tradition of interpretation, he argues, that can illuminate our own endeavours to understand the relationship between Scripture and God's world. Episode 15 - The Dark Side of the Music Industry: 5 BIG mistakes 10/3/2008 We promised a feature podcast on the first Thursday of each month where we take one issue and go in depth with related issues and important facts. This week, we take on the Dark Side of the Music Industry: the RIAA and their bully arm, MediaSentry. It's time to reveal the consequences of their negative policies and stand up against them! Their five BIG mistakes: 1. How they're finding us... by invading our privacy illegally 2. Who they're targeting... mostly the poor (including a homeless man!) who can't afford legal fees and must accept bankrupting settlements 3. Why they're not popular... (even on Wall Street) they alienate and attack their own customers and ignore the wishes of their share/stockholders 4. What is their impact on the environment... Anti-Green practices harm the environment AND feed our addiction to oil 5. Who they're in bed with... politicians (on both sides of the aisle) who could care less that their constituents' tax dollars will go to waste Finally, we're going to tell you what we can do to stop this nonsense. We're going to show politicians that when they unite to give us bad legislation, we will unite to stop them. It's not about Democrats and Republicans or liberals and conservatives.
