Since joining LEI in 2011, Mark spent 5 years of Chief Operating Officer at LEI followed by the last 3 years as a Senior Coach. He has led lean transformation in nearly every industry with many organizations such as: ·       Manufacturing – GE Appliances and Ingersoll Rand ·       Retail – Kroger ·       Hospitality – Legal Sea Foods ·       Construction – Turner Construction ·       Software – Microsoft ·       Healthcare – Michigan Medicine, Mt. Sinai Health System Mark has also worked as an executive coach in many of the industries and companies listed above, establishing a Lean Leader program development structure, clarifying and executing problem solving and behavioral improvements for Lean Leaders in every industry. Additionally, Mark is also an instructor for Hoshin and Managing to Learn courses, both online and in person. Before coming to LEI, he spent 23 years at Toyota in Japan and North America, most recently as general manager of the Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC). It takes years!Two Minute TipI would say that the first thing you should, we should realise is that without the C suite, we won't change a culture. You can impact it, but whether you can change it? No. So if you really want success and lasting success, that's the first port of call. Yeah, I know, many, many of us have had the experience that once you get to a company, the expectation is to be to just get this done. And maybe you've already inherited a system. What I'm saying the best starting point is to start right at the top. If you cannot get through there, you may as well not start at all. Yeah, you go and find the next challenge. Yeah, go and find the next challenge because that's where you will get success. And that's where you will leave a lasting legacy for the company. And a competitive advantage. Because once a company is on that roll, it becomes very hard to stop. It takes some time, though. It is not something that's done in two or three years. And the longer it can run, the better, the more ingrained it becomes. That's the whole purpose of the whole Kata system to get the routine going and people to have the discipline, develop the discipline. Soy bastante reacio a utilizar Lean en mis charlas y proyectos (mala forma de empezar algo nuevo cuando la gente no sabe ni pronunciar lean, y a lo que le puede recordar es a algo que, lamentablemente, a la mayoría de gente no le gusta demasiado, que es leer). Pero muy a menudo los que nos dedicamos a esto (quizás para parecer más interesante) lo tratamos de complicar con multitud de “palabros” a cada cual más extraña y “molona” (5S’s, Jidoka, Gemba, Hoshin Kanri, KPI, Just In Time, SMED, TPM, Kanban, Pokayoke, Eventos Hoshin-Kaizen, Takt Time, Flujo, PDCA, A3-Thinking, Problem Solving, Standard Work,…. Y seguro que me dejo alguna que otra decena de ellas) A mi me gusta más llamarlo Mejora Continua. Sabéis de mi modelo 4P29 donde trato precisamente de simplificarlo. Hagamos un “back to basics”. La Mejora Continua no es más que con las Personas mejorar los Procesos (la forma en la que trabajamos, la forma en la que hacemos las cosas) para tratar de minimizar-eliminar los Problemas y conseguir los Objetivos que nos marquemos (Prioridades) Todo ello aderezado con el concepto de Kaizen como rutina (TODOS LOS DÍAS, TODAS LAS PERSONAS EN TODAS LAS PARTES)

Bert Teeuwen is consultant, auteur en oprichter van Yokoten. Yokoten is een netwerk van ervaren organisatieadviseurs die met training en advies de introductie en implementatie van verbeterprogramma´s in organisaties begeleiden. Hij schreef een aantal praktische boeken over lean: TPM produceren met inzicht; 5s of werkplekorganisatie; Dagstarts en Hoshin Kanri; Continu Verbeteren; SMED; OEE voor operators en managers. Hij geeft deze boeken uit in eigen beheer. Dit zijn erg praktijkgerichte boeken, waarmee je zo zelf aan de slag kan. Dat is ook net Berts bedoeling. Hij wil op een laagdrempelige manier zijn inzichten delen met iedereen, ook met medewerkers in kleinere bedrijven of organisaties. Carmen Moruno   ?‍♂️ Conoce a Carmen Moruno Carmen Moruno ha sido un culo inquieto ya que siempre le han gustado muchas cosas y además también le apasionan muchas cosas. Siendo muy jovencita empezó estudiando administración de empresas, bueno administrativa en aquella época. Para Carmen la creatividad era el máximo exponente por lo que estudió un año de diseño de moda por qué siempre le había gustado mucho. De administrativa después se pasó al interiorismo, que le gustaba mucho posiblemente por que su padre tenía una empresa de construcción. Su madre murió cuando ella tenía 13 años, lo que hizo que ella se tuviera que ocupar de las cosas de la casa y compaginarlo con los estudios y el trabajo.   ?‍♀️️ Inicio laboral y emprendedor de Carmen Moruno Carmen Moruno empezó a trabajar con 16 años, Su primer trabajo fue en el ayuntamiento como administrativa. Posteriormente se fue a trabajar a una empresa de productos químicos, montando después una comercial, también de productos químicos. Trabajo también, mientras estaba estudiando, en una empresa de automóviles vendiendo coches, haciendo seguros y más cosas. ? Carmen Moruno emprendedora precoz En el año 89, Carmen Moruno finalizó los estudios de interiorismo y decide montar su segunda empresa que fue de interiorismo. La primera que montó, que fue la de productos químicos, no era algo que le gustara, era algo que conocía. La empresa de interiorismo es la que más tiempo ha tenido, de hecho, todavía la tiene, pero no está operativa.   ¿? Por qué Kanri? Como fiel admiradora de los sistemas de organización japoneses y como base de los principios del sistema “Hoshin Kanri”, el cual está fundamentado en: Comunicación y motivación. American Lean Weekday: Leadership | Lean Culture & Intrapreneurship | Lean Methods | Industry 4.0 | Case Studies

As we approach the Fourth of July- America's Independence Day, I want to reflect on why I chose the name American Lean for my business and American Lean weekday for my podcast. It is very personal for me. When I was an Industrial Engineering student at Huffy bicycle in Celina, Ohio we hired Arthur Anderson (now Accenture) to come and provide some consulting for us. At the end of their time there, they presented their report-out and suggested that we embrace this new manufacturing methodology being used in Japan called Lean manufacturing. This was the late 1980's. There wasn't much information regarding Lean and Dr. Womack was completing his research in Japan. The machine that changed the world- his book was not published yet. It wouldn't come out until 1990. The Goal was published in 1984 but it didn't specifically mention Lean. It was about Theory of Constraints. Here we were in the middle of Ohio in a union shop being told that the reason Japanese plants were implementing Lean is because they were smarter than us. Really, that is what we were told. That was like waving a red flag in front of a bull. I can remember the Industrial Engineering manager coming back from the presentation just livid. He was upset about two things.  They gave us a canned presentation with Huffy's numbers written in. This was after being on-site for months. They charged us $100,000 for the consulting with a pre-formed conclusion that they probably gave everyone. But, we did hear them. They suggested that we use focused factories. Instead of being departmentally focused you align everything required to build a bike into smaller factories. Including each line having its own paint line, which was not feasible. They suggested that we use kanban and pull systems to minimize WIP. This is great except Huffy had been around since the 60's and had a piece-rate goal and paid people more the more product they produced. Which of course, drives up inventory. At the management level, they worked through many of these issues with the Union. At the Industrial engineering level where I was, we focused on developing welding cells. We deployed kanban squares to control the amount of WIP coming from the area that made rims for the bikes. We had every square inch of the facility in Autocad- Version 1.  BTW, if you had to regenerate the whole factory with everything in it, it took 45 minutes. Why did I go through this long backstory? Because we didn't use the Japanese language as we were making improvements. We had cells, we had pull systems, we used mistake-proofing. I've spent 25 years helping companies implement Lean methodologies. I know all the Lean vernacular. Kanban, kaizen, poke-yoke, Hoshin Kanri, Heijunka, Muda, Kata, Gemba. I've consulted at a firm that is very Toyota based. I also consulted at a firm that was Demand Flow driven which didn't use any foreign language. My hope is that American Lean Consulting can help 1000 companies a year. Admittedly, we are a long way from that. The reason for American Lean is that we don't use confusing terms.  Also, it really isn't part of my DNA. I learned how to transform companies without confusing lingo. I want American manufacturing companies to improve their global competitiveness! I don't want any barriers to the adoption of Lean principles that I know can help any size company in any industry I know, I've been in most industries. I've worked with companies from the size of Procter & Gamble to family-owned machine shops. I've learned from every one of them. Hoshin Kanri es un término japonés compuesto por cuatro palabras, Ho, Shin, kan y Ri, que pueden ser interpretadas respectivamente como dirección, aguja, control y razón. El año pasado, dediqué algunas semanas a estudiar este marco metodológico creado por Toyota y que revolucionó la industria desde los años 90. Me fascinó la sencillez de la Matriz X y del concepto de catchball, una técnica colaborativa para definir y dar seguimiento a los objetivos e indicadores a través de los distintos estratos de la compañía. Co-crear, de nuevo, es la clave. Los OKRs persiguen objetivos muy similares y vienen a ser una versión simplificada y moderna de Hoshin Kanri. Y en mi opinión, con los objetivos estratégicos de una compañía suele pasar algo parecido a lo que sucede cuando hablamos del propósito, o plasmamos en palabras la cultura, los valores y los principios que deben guiar nuestros comportamientos. Las palabras son una representación de la realidad. Pero no son la realidad. "El mapa no es el territorio", que decía Alfred Korzybski. In 1979, after working for 18 years with Data Processing companies, Norm Bodek started Productivity Inc. - Press by publishing a newsletter called PRODUCTIVITY. At the time, he said he knew virtually nothing about the subject and had spent very little time in manufacturing facilities. But, he quickly became fascinated with the subject and went to Japan to discover the processes that was making Japan the world leaders in quality improvement and productivity growth. Mr. Bodek said his claim to fame is that he found amazing tools, techniques and new thoughts that have revolutionized the world of manufacturing. He has met Dr. W. Edwards Deming, Dr. Joseph Juran, Phil Crosby, Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa, Dr. Joji Akao, Mr. Taiichi Ohno, Dr. Shigeo Shingo and many other great manufacturing masters and published many of their books in English. Each person he met gave him a new perspective on continuous improvement. Mr. Bodek has lead over 25 study missions to Japan and was one of the first to find and publish books, training materials and run conferences and seminars on TPS, SMED, CEDAC, quality control circles, 5 S, visual factory, TPM, VSM, Kaizen Blitz, cell design, poka-yoke, lean accounting, Andon, Hoshin Kanri, Kanban, and Quick and Easy Kaizen. Mr. Bodek, who was once called "Mr. Productivity" by Industry Week Magazine, and "Mr. Lean" by Quality Progress Magazine, said his most powerful discovery was the way Toyota and other Japanese companies opened the infinite creative potential often lying dormant inside every single worker. Most recently, he worked with Gulfstream Corporation, a private jet company, where 1000 people that went from 16-implemented ideas in February 2005 to close to 40,000 in 2011, and resulting each year in annually savings of over $2 million. Mr. Bodek founded the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence at Utah State University with Dr. Vern Buehler and is one of the few to be personally awarded the Shingo Prize. A case study from my Ph.D. Dissertation (based on his consulting work) was recently featured in Prof. Jeff Liker’s new book “The Toyota Way to Service Excellence”. He was one of the 3 Industrial Engineers who built the program for Denver Health becoming the first healthcare delivery organization to win the coveted Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence (March 2011) and demonstrated operational expense savings of $124,000,000 (as of 2013). The event was held in Portland, Oregon on Dec 4, 2018 at CENTRL Office, hosted by North Highland.

Tema var "Målstyring som funker".  Torbjørn Gjerdevik fra Lærdal Medical gir en innføring i hvordan fabrikken på Løkkeveien i Stavanger faktisk får til målstyring på alle nivå i organisasjonen, og hvilke resultater man oppnår ved å være tett på, og ikke gi opp, selv når "alt lyser rødt". Hemmeligheten er enkel, men ikke lett: å få noe til å skje hver dag. MEN: hvis du setter opp for mye; så blir ingenting gjort. Så da er det viktig å prioritere arbeidet. Struktur (hvem skal gjøre det, hvordan, når) er sentralt hos Lærdal. det er også gjennomføringsevne; et tips er å knytte forbedringsarbeidet opp mot noe du må gjøre uansett; for eksempel, å integrere det inn i de store prosjekter Og: Hvis ledelsen ikke er med og følger opp så dør innsatsen etter hvert, & tempoet går ned. Vi må ha resultater for å ha energi til å fortsette... og tålmodighet, for effekten på bunnlinjen kan ta noen år. Fra 2013 til 2017 doblet de produktiviteten i produksjonslinjene (... som et resultat av mange hundre forbedringer) Resultater på bunnlinjen, var for eks. å gå fra 12 til 3 millioner i skrapkostnader. Etter foredraget kom det noen spørsmål fra salen, om hvordan linken mellom strategi og den operative driften ble opprettholdt, og hva de ville gjort om de kunne startet helt på scratch.  Her er det mye spennende innhold for alle [spesielt interesserte] :) god lytt! ¡Feliz 2018 a todo el mundo, y bienvenidos al primer programa del año y a la última semana de la edición de Navidad de Dragonz Podcast, el programa, TU PROGRAMA, de artes marciales y deportes de contacto. Hoy es lunes 01 de enero de 2018, vamos por el programa número 161!! ¡Muuuy buenas noches! ¿Pensábais que os íbais a quedar sin programa del lunes? Nooooo… Más tarde que nunca, pero aquí estamos. Y es que como algunos sabréis, Dragonz todavía no me da de comer, y tengo que trabajar los findes de semana por las noches. Y como en todas las Nocheviejas… he llegado a casa prácticamente a la hora de que saliera el podcast, y tenía 2 opciones, grabarlo medio dormido… o echarme a dormir. ¡Espero que el año que viene no me pase lo mismo! Ese es uno de mis propósitos de este nuevo año… y de propósitos, es precisamente de lo que vamos a hablar en el programa de hoy. Evidentemente, yo os voy a hablar de propósitos míos personales, pero dentro de todo ello, intentaré centrarme un poco más en lo s que se refieren a Dragonz y a las Artes Marciales. Hoy os voy a hablar de un concepto japonés que descubrí cuando comencé a profundizar en el sistema de Hoshin Kanri del que os hablé la semana pasada, para planificar nuestros objetivos de cara a este 2018 que empieza hoy. Este concepto, es denominado en japonés KAIZEN, y viene a significar “mejora contínua”. ¡Por cierto! ayer se acabó la oferta de lanzamiento de la Comunidad Dragonz, y quiero agradeceros a todos los que os habéis apuntado y me habéis apoyado en el proyecto, cuando estaba naciendo, y había apenas 50 videotutoriales, y 3 ó 4 libros en descarga… hoy ya hay más de 200 vídeo tutoriales, y como digo siempre, cada día uno más, más de 20 libros en nuestra biblioteca virtual, más de 5000 fotografías para que uséis como queráis, y todas las revistas Dragonz Magazine en formato digital. Y quiero agradecéroslo, tal como os decía en un principio, ¡añadiendo la edición en papel de regalo, para todos los miembros de la Comunidad Dragonz! Con lo que a partir de hoy, y mientras lo podamos “mantener”, voy a tratar de enviaros la revista a todos los suscriptores a casa.
