On what would’ve been Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s 16th birthday, her family released a new photo of her and a statement saying the death penalty “would be perfect” for singer D4vd, who’s been charged with the killing and dismembering the young teen. Today is the one year anniversary of the discovery of Hernandez’s remains in the front trunk of D4vd’s Tesla. Even though the last execution in California happened two decades ago, the DA has not yet taken the death penalty off the table. I took two rides in Tesla's Cybercab in Austin, and I'm telling you — this thing exceeded my expectations. The legroom, quiet cabin, huge screen, and freedom to just sit back and enjoy the ride are incredible. But the biggest surprise was how natural it feels with no steering wheel or pedals. There's no empty driver's seat reminding you that someone is missing. It just feels like this is how getting from point A to point B is supposed to work. On my second ride, I reclined my seat and watched my own Cybercab video inside a Cybercab. Half an hour flew by, and I felt refreshed. In this video, I share my first impressions, how the experience compares with a Model Y Robotaxi, and what I'd still improve—including a plusher ride and shorter wait times. Tesla's growth has slowed, and the affordable new model many people expected hasn't arrived. Did Tesla abandon its high-volume ambitions—or choose a different path to get there? In this video, I share my theory about why Elon Musk went all in on Cybercab and FSD, what that decision may have cost Tesla in the short term, and how it could lay the foundation for an entirely new lineup of affordable, autonomous vehicles. I explore the tradeoff between building a cheaper conventional Tesla and designing a vehicle around the rider from the ground up. I also outline a six-step path from Cybercab to broader consumer sales and high-volume production. Tesla's Cybercab is now carrying passengers in Austin, and this episode takes a comprehensive look at what Tesla revealed about the purpose-built robotaxi and how it works in the real world. The Cybercab introduces Tesla's unboxed manufacturing process, reaction-injection-molded body panels, a smaller and lighter drive unit without rare-earth materials, a 48 kWh structural battery pack, electronic brakes, and a camera-only sensor suite. The updated Robotaxi experience lets riders choose between a Cybercab and Model Y, carries preferences between rides, and offers controls through the vehicle's 22-inch display, the Tesla app, and voice commands. The episode also looks at accessibility, Tesla's plans for fleet operators and mobility hubs, and the economics of putting privately owned Cybercabs onto the Robotaxi network. I attended Tesla's Cybercab launch event in Austin and spent more than two hours speaking with Tesla engineers and examining the technical displays. Today, a look at the very confusing comments from the Fed's Waller, who waxed dovish so soon after Chair Warsh's recent hawkish musings that the market doesn't know what to do with the next FOMC meeting. Gold and crypto rose sharply on Waller's comments. Also, important incoming US jobs data today for the US treasury market, but especially for USDJPY after the big move higher in the JPY this week, which arguably has more fundamental support than previous rounds of official intervention were able to provide.
