This episode of the Getting Smart Podcast is a part of our New Pathways campaign. In partnership with American Student Assistance (ASA), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Stand Together and the Walton Family Foundation, the New Pathways campaign will question education's status quo and propose new methods of giving students a chance to experience success in what's next. On this episode of the Getting Smart Podcast Tom Vander Ark is joined by Dr. Amanda Stent, director of the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and Dr Taniya Mishra, founder and CEO of SureStart. Administered by Colby's Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the Halloran Lab for Entrepreneurship, the summer-long SureStart curriculum at Colby evolved from a longtime friendship between the two guests. The Davis Institute for AI facilitates interdisciplinary, human-centered scholarship using rich datasets with real-world consequences and prepares students for a future where AI is transforming industries, careers, and modes of discovery, creativity, and scholarship. A new generation of ethical AI designers spent eight weeks at Colby this summer for a start-up boot camp called SureStart. In addition to nine rising sophomores from Colby, the program attracted four students from partner school Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the nation's first degree-granting historically black college or university. The program aimed to teach students with an interest in AI skills to develop a well-researched and market-ready product that solves a real-world problem with a convenient and cost-effective solution. Students also had the opportunity to work with SureStart mentors including partners from organizations such as Alethea, Lockheed Martin, and Bloomberg Second Measure. This episode highlights the programs and connections that got this initiative started. Our guest this week is an interior designer who has become a household name. She's an expert storyteller, creating compelling stories through both her design, and her appearances on screen. She's been frequently featured on HGTV as a host and mentor on “Battle on the Beach” and “Build it forward”. Joining the show this week is Principal and Interior Designer at Taniya Nayak Design, Taniya Nayak!Taniya sits down with Dan to dive into her background as a designer. She covers the ways that bartending helped her refine her design skills, the necessity of designing your spaces for a wide range of guest experiences, and how she got started as a host on HGTV. Takeaways: For Taniya, hospitality means addressing all the small nuances of an experience. It means creating a warm and inviting space where you are thinking about every possible customer scenario. Balancing operations and design is a delicate task as you will often need to choose between prioritizing aesthetics or cost. Ultimately, the choices you make need to revolve around the experience you are trying to create for your guests. Creating an experience your guests want to evangelize is important because a guest's journey begins with a review. Their expectations of your space are set by what they read beforehand, and a bad review can set guests up with a pretense of your space. A quality product is the cornerstone of any successful business, but the presentation around that product determines your success. An ok product with great presentation will outshine a great product with lackluster presentation. As a designer, you need to tell a story that relates to the guests in your establishment. Each element should correlate either functionally or emotionally to the story of why your guest is in that space. As a young designer, it can feel demoralizing to not land a design job right out of college. Retail, customer service, and food service jobs give you firsthand knowledge into how those environments run, making your future designs for those spaces more effective. For leaders in the design space, you need to create environments for your employees to thrive. Encourage communication, and make your employees feel comfortable being vulnerable. From their honest sharing comes opportunities for you to help them grow. Our love for textiles and art forms and a strong will to empower very talented and deserving artisans made us quit and take a big step towards our dream. The magic of thread drew us like a magnet. Our guests on this week's Absolutely write episode are Sujata & Taniya Biswas. The sisters take pride in complementing each other's skill sets while having the same vision. Sujata says that she is the brain and Taniya confesses to being the heart. Together, the beautiful symphony of their energies plays out perfectly to become Suta. An alumnus of IIFT Delhi, Sujata always felt something was missing in her job. She was with Essar, Jindal & IIT before SUTA. Whenever she went back to visit her parents, she came across a lot of traditional weavers with whom she used to end up chatting and they used to pour their hearts out about lack of work and menial wages. Taniya, an engineer and IIM Lucknow graduate, worked for almost three years with the Tata group and IBM. She calls herself an observer and loves to watch how everything in life is so beautifully intertwined with nature and the world around us. This kindled the creative streak in her to paint and to take photographs. After quitting her cushy corporate jobs, she grappled with many ideas, even tried her hands at product photo-shoots, before realizing that her true potential was not in the pictures but in the products itself. “I had designed a few clothes and had posted them, but instead of getting requests for shoot we were asked about the products.” Together they run this organisation that supports & empowers over 16000 weavers across India. Aditi analyses their handwriting and talks about some of their some unique & opposite aspects of their personality including what makes them such different leaders and what makes them such a good solid team. Sujata & Taniya share some stories, lessons and takeaways that can be implemented starting today. Which is your favourite lesson from today's episode and why? Share in the comments section.
Today, on Voices for Local, Monisha is back with a brand that makes her favourite outfit ever - the sari. Here is what we got down to reviewing this week.......Ankahi Kahaniya, the latest produce of the anthology factory from @Netflix is perhaps also the strongest case that they should enter the short film-making business. We are highly dissatisfied by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Saket Chaudhary's films though we want to make sure to applaud Abhishek Chaubey's brilliance in Madhyantar.Of the ensemble cast across the four episodes, some of the names that impress include Siddhant Mahajan, Kashish Rai, Bibriti Chatterjee, Poorti Arya, Nishank Verma, and Ankita Chakraborty. Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Kapoor. In Pavitra Rishta playing on @zee5, Archana and Manav meet when she accompanies her heartbroken, sloshed friend to a garage where he works to pick her car up. Manav offers to drop both to their destination. The story is the reprise of the original story of Pavitra Rishta but will have several elements altered, and a few characters added. The web series format is well directed and executed.Hai Tauba, on @altbalaji, is an anthology of four stories about relationships that don't conform to societal norms. The first episode, Pink, revolves around a group of friends going through a rough patch in their relationships while an annual get-together only worsens their ties beyond repair. The next episode, White, explores the life of a social media influencer Taniya, who's even ready to get laid in her bid to enhance her popularity. Silver is centered around two budding filmmakers Shlok and Pooja who find themselves in an awkward situation when their cast doesn't meet their expectations during the filming of a project. The final episode, Blue, is about the deep friendship that two closeted homosexuals, a caterer Arjan and a marketing person Trilok, forge in a Goan hotel.Hear this all and more this week with Scott and Miraal and don't forget to LCS at @desislivegram or on Twitter at @desisliveRead and watch these reviews at https://desis.live

Thus, when you watch the finale on Wednesday, December 23rd on ABC you will see plenty of hugging and no masks or social distancing. We talked with Taniya Nayack for this preview of The Great Christmas Light Fight on ABC.

In my group coaching program, Perfectionists Getting Shit Done, we do multiple live coaching calls each and every month to help our PGSDers get unstuck - by getting coached themselves and watching others get coached too. And today I’m sharing a snippet of one of these coaching calls with you! Taniya (@mycoachaditi on Instagram) submitted a request to get coached because she realised that she’s been manifesting health problems as a form of self-sabotage. Every time she reached the next level of success or went outside her comfort zone, she’d get sick. Knowing this, Taniya wanted an outside perspective on when to rest versus when to push through. So we discussed that and so much more. Thank you Taniya for giving me permission to share this call on the podcast, I appreciate you! In This Episode You’ll Learn: What it’s like to listen to a live coaching call inside PGSD Why your health problems could be a form of subconscious self-sabotage What an upper limit problem is and how to identify one How to tell when to rest versus when to push through Taniya’s helpful tip for anchoring in good feelings How to trust your intuition on when to take a break and when to keep going Featured In The Episode: Perfectionists Getting Shit Done - my group coaching program FREE Training - How To Build A Full-Time Coaching Business Without Getting Laughed At Taniya’s Instagram account - @mycoachaditi. When we have an unhealed past and trauma in our lives, we often find difficulties in moving forward. We may experience plenty of self-doubt, anxiety and stay at a place where many may call the "Dark Night of the Soul". In order to have a breakthrough, we would need to work on healing our wounds in the past. In my interview with Taniya, we talked about the power of women helping other women, and why it is so important to have a breakthrough before we can fully pursue our dreams. Transcript Sze Wing: Hi everyone. Today I'm going to have a new guest. She's based in London, so her name is Taniya Hussain. I'm really excited to talk to you today. Hi Taniya. Taniya: Yeah, it's Hussain. But it's really interesting that you started the conversation with Hussin, because Hussin and Hassan, they were the prophet Mohammad's grandsons and Hassan means beautiful, and Hussain means little beautiful one. Sze Wing: So I'm actually calling you little beautiful then. Taniya: Yeah, that was, I think sometimes slip-ups, they have a blessing. Sze Wing: And so happy to have you here and I first want to share a little bit about your background. Taniya was born in Karachi, Pakistan. But then you moved to London in the 1970s as a toddler, so a long time. And I myself have been living in London for quite a while. And I love the city. Sze Wing: And your professional training and background is in social work and psychodynamic counselling.
And you can too… Restaurant Impossible has a bright light, and her name is Taniya Nayak! She's inspiring for a lot of reasons, but wait until you hear her describe her journey to becoming a famous designer on a popular TV show. You'll never guess what her first job was! Happiness exudes from Taniya, and it's because she's moved toward opportunities and situations that were a natural fit, slowly and determinedly. Her aha moment was when she realized on a trip with her sister, that "I'm too young to be doing a job I hate". She knew there was still time to figure it out, and she did just that. We all have the opportunity to design the life we want. We just have to be brave and do it. How? Listen to people who have done it. Then learn lots of ways to go after your dreams. And pick the ways that work for you. Slowly but surely, you will be living the life you want, because you designed it! It’s more than just fundraising! In this playful episode of Add Passion and Stir, host Billy Shore and event emcee Taniya Nayak (HGTV, Food Network) conduct “red carpet” interviews at the 2018 Taste of the Nation Boston. Guests include Celebrity Chef Tiffani Faison (Sweet Cheeks Q, Tiger Mama), Adam Amontea (Cafco), Lacey Berrien and David Miller (Boston Society), and Emily Pochman (Share Our Strength). In its 30th year, the event features 60 chefs from Boston-area restaurants and raises more than $210,000 for No Kid Hungry. “One of my favorite feelings in the world is to see people come together to enjoy a meal in a space that I got to design,” says Nayak. Faison talks about her background and commitment to social justice and LGBTQ rights. “My job is to make it easier for the next generation, so… they can just give their art, their spirit and their love to the world without having to consider their safety,” she says. Amontea, who is one of the event sponsors, describes his company’s ties to the culinary world and long-standing commitment to No Kid Hungry. Berrien and Miller share their thoughts on the work they are doing to get the next generation of philanthropists involved. Billy and Taniya also get a surprise visit from Erik and Farrah - a first-grade teacher in the Boston public school system – newlyweds who purchased 125 tickets to the event for their wedding guests because they feel so strongly about the cause of child hunger. “I look at my students and there’s such an impact…when they’re fed, they’re able to learn,” says the bride in her wedding dress.
