Local AI models and distributed computing represent a pathway to technological sovereignty that is becoming increasingly viable. While large language models currently run primarily in centralized data centers, the technology is rapidly advancing toward a future where powerful models can run locally on personal computers and devices. This shift is crucial because it means individuals can have full control over their AI assistants without relying on API calls to external servers. Combined with open source infrastructure and open weight models, this creates the foundation for truly personal AI that cannot be controlled or monitored by external parties, whether corporations or governments.3. Data unions and collective data ownership offer an alternative model to current centralized data collection practices. Rather than having individual data harvested by large tech companies who profit from it, the concept of data unions suggests people could collectively pool their data for specific beneficial purposes while maintaining ownership and control. For example, in healthcare, millions of people could share anonymized biometric data to train medical AI systems that are incentivized to keep people healthy rather than treat them when sick, inverting the current insurance model to align incentives with actual health outcomes rather than profit from illness.4. The democratization of manufacturing and robotics through accessible technologies like ESP32 microcontrollers and local fabrication tools is creating new possibilities for distributed production. Just as desktop printers seemed impossible to early printers who controlled book production, we are approaching an era where individuals and small communities can manufacture sophisticated electronic devices and robots locally. This includes the ability to use language models to generate code for microcontrollers, order custom PCBs, and use desktop machines for component placement. While high quality manufacturing will still require larger operations, this gradiation of capability allows for much more local innovation and reduces dependence on centralized manufacturing.5. The concentration of power in technology, finance, and industry has reached levels that are unhealthy for both society and even for those who hold the power. When profit and control become too concentrated in the hands of a few entities, it creates a cancerous dynamic that threatens the stability of the entire system. History shows us warnings about the military industrial complex and other concentrated power structures, and now we are seeing similar patterns emerge in the tech industry. The solution requires building technology from the ground up that empowers individuals and communities, focusing on basics like food production, energy generation, and local manufacturing rather than increasing dependence on centralized systems.6. The provenance and quality of information is becoming a critical challenge as AI systems become more sophisticated and reality itself becomes harder to verify. We are rapidly approaching a point where video calls and digital interactions will be indistinguishable from AI generated fakes, which is why figures like Sam Altman have invested in systems like Worldcoin to verify human identity. However, this verification capability should not be centralized in the hands of single companies. End to end encryption and quantum encryption technologies need to be preserved and expanded to allow humans to communicate and verify information peer to peer without centralized intermediaries who could manipulate or control the flow of information.7. The future of human computer interaction is evolving toward sentient loop systems where machines have sensory input, real time learning, context understanding, and continuous operation in service of human needs. Self driving cars represent the first widespread consumer facing example of this architecture, with onboard computers that must function independently while occasionally connecting to networks. The critical question is whether these systems will be aligned to benefit their human users like a caring mother as AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton suggests, or whether they will be controlled by centralized powers. The technologists building these systems have a responsibility to be benevolent and build structures that serve humanity rather than concentrate power, helping to create a future more like Star Trek than Terminator.

Today I'm going to teach you how to set goals. Sort of. Most of what you were handed about goals has quietly fallen apart. The 21-day habit. The Harvard study everybody quotes. Smart goals. Gone. Disproven. And yet you're still sitting there in August wondering why the thing you decided in January never happened. Two words fix most of it, and one measurement that explains why you quit. Ten minutes, and you'll never look at your goal list the same way. Featured Story I mentioned to my wife the other day that I'm in the mood to get a Tesla. Just shopping around. Looking. She got quiet. Then a little scared. Because after all these years, she knows exactly what that sentence means in my house. She knows my brain already flagged it. She knows the velocity has started. And she knows that if I keep drifting in that direction, week after week, there will eventually be a Tesla in the driveway and nobody will remember deciding on it. That's not a car story. That's the whole mechanism of how you get anything, running right out in the open. Important Points Start your morning retrospectively. Not what you did yesterday, but what really happened and how it honestly felt. Then go prospectively. Ask what you'll create today to close the gap you just found, and only three goals max. Velocity keeps motivation alive, so chop any goal more than six months out into segments you can actually feel finishing. Memorable Quotes Velocity is the key. It's more important how fast you're getting to your goal than if you're getting to your goal. The daily awareness diary will hold you to your honesty forever. It exposes what you said you want and what you're doing. Remember the Harvard study where people who set goals are 93% more effective—never done, ever. It's a wives' tale. Scott's Three-Step Approach Tomorrow morning, ask retrospectively how yesterday actually went, and be honest about whether it matched your want. Then ask prospectively what you'll create today, and write down the single adjustment that closes that gap for you. Now break your big goal into velocity segments close enough together that you feel you're finishing one each week. The teenage years can be difficult for parents as well as the kids going through so many physical and emotional changes. Celeste's parents tried to keep their strong willed daughter at home, safe and under their watch. When she told them she had a "boyfriend," they took her phone away. R&B singer D4vd paid a student at her school to give her a phone he bought for her to use exclusively with him. On February 14, 2024 D4vd sent an Uber to pick her up and bring her to his home in the Hollywood Hills. They named their plan "Operation Awesome." She was 13 years old and he was 19. She returned home to her Riverside County home in Lake Elsinore a few days later after her parents reported her missing the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. She left again on March 19, 2024. And again on April 5, 2024. Always reported to the Sheriffs Department. She and D4vd were dramatic and tumultuous and neither of them had the emotional intelligence to be in a "relationship." No ones brains were fully developed. Prosecutors believe on or about April 23, 2025 D4vd sent an Uber to Celeste's home in Lake Elsinore, 80 miles from his home in Hollywood to bring her to his home for a confrontation. Digital communications show that Celeste was angry at being rejected by D4vd and he was feeling threatened as she said she would tell the world he was sleeping with her an underage girl. The exact dates and what for sure happened are not fully known but you can hear how a 14 year old Celeste ended up in the front trunk of a Tesla owned by David Burke, AKA D4vd, decomposed and found one day before what would have been her 15 birthday. A year where other 15 year olds are celebrated with a Quinceanera ceremony. Even though a judge has decided that there is enough evidence to remand David Anthony Burke over for trial, there are details in the timeline that are still missing. On September 5, 2025, a seemingly abandoned Tesla was towed from an affluent neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills.  Within a couple days, tow yard employees couldn't get past the outrageously pungent odor emanating from the Tesla, along with colonies of insects making themselves at home in and around it.  The workers couldn't be sure what the smell was, but they knew.  The LAPD was contacted, the smell was reported and when officers arrived and opened the front end cargo area of the vehicle, they discovered two body bags containing dismembered human remains.  Whose remains were these?  Who did this Tesla belong to?  And how did all this end up in a tow yard in Hollywood?  This is the first part of a two part series on the 2025 murder of 14 year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.Support the show

He is accused of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were found in a Tesla registered to him in September 2025.
