The San Francisco 49ers are up in the NFL Insider Series, and Cam Inman of the Mercury News and East Bay Times offers his insight on a team with Super Bowl aspirations and some of the best players for fantasy football. Is Christian McCaffrey, aka Run CMC, still the clear 1.01 pick in fantasy football? Now 100% healthy, is Brock Purdy ready to repeat as a top-10 QB? Are Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel one of the best WR duos in the NFL? Is George Kittle healthy and ready to be a top TE for fantasy football again? Cam breaks down this team in a light and entertaining fashion, and he's not holding back on Super Bowl talk. He also predicts plenty of top fantasy performances this year. This episode contains explicit, racist and offensive language, as well as descriptions of violence. For years, police officers in the city of Antioch used racist and homophobic slurs with their colleagues in text messages, and openly bragged about targeting people of color with violence. These messages were released to the public in a Contra Costa County District Attorney report last week.  These racist texts were released as the department is already being investigated by federal authorities, and as a grand jury considers charging officers with fraud, assault under color of authority, bribery, and other charges.  Nearly 1 in 5 police officers in Antioch are currently suspended. For longtime advocates of police reform in Antioch, these messages are a painful reminder of how deeply racism is embedded in the culture of their local police department. Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said at a news conference that two of the wounded were undergoing surgery as of 5 p.m. Tuesday and that the six others were in stable condition. He identified the three students who were killed as a 16-year-old boy and two girls, ages 14 and 17. Authorities say they received a flood of 911 calls shortly before 1 p.m. about an attack at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a community of about 22,000 people roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Detroit. McCabe said deputies took the shooting suspect — a 15-year-old sophomore — into custody without incident within five minutes of arriving at the school. He said the suspect's parents visited him where he's being held and advised their son not to talk to investigators, as is his right. He said as far as he knows, the suspect had no prior run-ins with law enforcement.” Public schools are not safe for your kids.  Dr. Oz, celebrity physician, launches campaign for Senate in Pa. as a Republican https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/dr-oz-celebrity-physician-launches-campaign-senate-pa-republican-n1285109?cid=sm_npd_nn_fb_ma “Dr. Mehmet Oz, a physician known to national TV audiences, announced Tuesday that he will run for Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican, throwing more uncertainty into the closely watched primary. "We are angry at our government and at each other," Oz wrote in guest column published by The Washington Examiner. "We have not managed our crises as effectively as past generations. During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That's why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal." Oz, in a video tweeted Tuesday afternoon, specified that he is seeking the Republican nomination. Pennsylvania's Senate battle became a spectacle last week when former President Donald Trump's endorsed candidate, Sean Parnell, ended his campaign after his estranged wife was granted sole legal custody of their children in a case where she alleged abuse. Parnell denied the accusations. "Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will put America first,” Oz, echoing Trump, said in his announcement video. Oz, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's medical school and Wharton School who as recently as 2020 lived in New Jersey, registered to vote in Pennsylvania last year at the home of his in-laws, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.” La County Sheriff Holding His Ground: https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1465507928241176580/photo/1 Can a city declare itself a republic? Calif. town just did According to News Nation Now: Fed up with COVID-19 regulations and vaccine mandates, the leaders of one California city have decided to take matters into their own hands. Oroville's City Council overwhelmingly voted to declare the town a “constitutional republic” earlier this month. What that means, according to the declaration, is: “Any executive orders issued by the State of California or by the United States federal government that are overreaching or clearly violate our constitutionally protected rights will not be enforced by the City of Oroville against its citizens.” What does it mean in practice? Oroville's mayor told the East Bay Times it “doesn't change anything.” “It's simply reminding people what kind of government we live under and that they do have personal choices and freedoms,” Mayor Chuck Reynolds told the Times. Proponents of the constitutional republic told reporters they were especially upset with California's requirement that children 12 and older eventually get vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to attend school. However, even after this vote, schools in Oroville will still be regulated (and largely funded) by the state. Oroville isn't the only California city to try and take a stand against the state's COVID-19 policies. Earlier in the pandemic, two towns decided to defy Gov. Gavin Newsom's shutdown orders for certain businesses, reports the Los Angeles Times. They lost some funding from the state as a result, according to the paper. The desire to secede isn't unique to California, either. The Washington Times and a USA Today columnist noticed the trend in 2020, pointing out that rural pockets of blue states are often the ones who want out. A few Virginia counties said they wanted to join their more conservative friends in West Virginia, but Adam Dean, a history professor at the University of Lynchburg, called the prospect of getting approval from both state legislatures and Congress “extremely unlikely.” Some residents in southern Oregon and far northern California have also been trying to form a 51st state of Jefferson for nearly 80 years. But as The New York Times reports, the creation of the new state would not only require California and Oregon to give the OK — Congress would have to sign off, too. So can a city decide it's fed up with its home state and go it alone? The short answer is no, at least not by merely putting the matter to a city council vote. In theory, the city's citizens could take up arms and go to war to fight for independence. But it would literally take a civil war. And since cities don't have armies, it's easy to see why even a large metropolis would be easily outmatched — not to mention Oroville, California: population 20,000. Biden Bans Travel to South America: If you recall, Biden tweeted this when Trump banned travel from China:  Well now that Biden banned travel to/from South America, it is not racist, because Jen Psaki said so: Roll clip: https://twitter.com/BreitbartNews/status/1465411536801914881 File this under New Zealand has left the reservation:  LA begins enforcing strict mandate requiring proof of vax https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/la-begins-enforcing-strict-mandate-requiring-proof-vax-81457466?cid=social_fb_abcnp According to ABC news: “Enforcement began Monday in Los Angeles for one of the strictest vaccine mandates in the country, a sweeping measure that requires proof of shots for everyone entering a wide variety of businesses from restaurants to theaters and gyms to nail and hair salons. While the latest order aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus took effect Nov. 8, city officials spent the past three weeks providing business owners the information and resources business they need to comply. “Nobody wants to penalize anyone,” said Sharon Tso, the city's Chief Legislative Analyst, whose office drafted the enforcement rules. “That's why we've been prioritizing education.” A first offense will bring a warning but subsequent ones could produce fines running from $1,000 to $5,000. Inspectors with the Department of Building and Safety will enforce the mandate, and the city hopes to eventually get assistance from the LA County Department of Public Health, Tso said. She didn't immediately know if any warnings or citations were issued on Monday. Los Angeles is among a growing number of cities across the U.S., including San Francisco and New York City, requiring people show proof of vaccination to enter various types of businesses and venues. But rules in the nation's second-most-populous city, called SafePassLA, apply to more types of businesses and other indoor locations including concert halls, museums and convention centers. A sign reminding customers to be prepared to show their vaccine cards hangs at the Muddy Paw Coffee Shop in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, where owner Darren Laborie said he's thankful that the vast majority of his regulars have happily complied with the shifting regulations over the past year and a half. “We have to adapt to whatever rules are coming at us. And our customers go along with us,” Laborie said. Those that don't want to wear a mask or show vaccine proof can sit in the outdoor patio or take their coffees and pastries to go, he said. One year ago, Los Angeles was becoming the state's epicenter of the worst spike of the pandemic in California. By January an average of 500 people were dying statewide every day. To guard against another spike in cases, deaths and hospitalizations, the LA City Council voted 11-2 last month for the ordinance that requires people 12 and older to be fully vaccinated to enter indoor public spaces including sports arenas, museums, spas, indoor city facilities and other locations. Retail stores and shopping malls are exempt. Negative coronavirus tests within 72 hours of entry to those establishments would be required for people with religious or medical exemptions for vaccinations. Customers without proof can still use outdoor facilities and can briefly enter a business to use a restroom or pick up a food order. Business trade groups have said the mandate will sow confusion and could present safety concerns for employees tasked with checking customers' vaccination status. Laborie shares concerns that the rules could place “an undue burden” on small business owners. “A lot of businesses can't afford to have employees spending their time at the front door all the time. They just don't have the staffing,” he said. Melanie Bolen happily showed her vaccine card before having lunch inside Fred 62, an upscale diner in the city's Los Feliz neighborhood. “I mean, I'm fine with that," Bolen said. "If that's what's needed to help get things over with this pandemic, I'm all for it.” While many cold-weather states are seeing sharp increases in cases, California's per capita rate has been among the nation's lowest for two months and that has kept hospitalizations relatively low after a late-summer surge. In the last two weeks, Los Angeles County hospitalizations have fallen about 10%, mirroring the statewide trend. State forecasts show a continuing decline through Christmas. Among LA county's roughly 10 million people, 82% of eligible residents now have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and 74% of those eligible are fully vaccinated, according to public health officials.” Remember that in 2021, where we had lockdowns and access to a vaccine, we had more COVID deaths this year, than we did in 2020. Lockdowns don't work, the vaxx don't work, and all these health bureaucracies need to go!  Twitter Crackdown: Video And Photo Sharing Banned Without Consent Under First Day With New CEO https://www.dailywire.com/news/twitter-crackdown-video-and-photo-sharing-banned-without-consent-under-first-day-with-new-ceo?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=benshapiro According to the Daily Wire: “One day after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey resigned from the company he founded about 16 years ago, Twitter, under new CEO Parag Agrawal has issued a new ban that restricts sharing videos or photos without consent on the platform. The new addition was listed on Twitter's blog on Tuesday, saying, “NEW: media of private individuals without the permission of the person(s) depicted.” The new policy is designed to “help curb the misuse of media to harass, intimidate, and reveal the identities of private individuals, which disproportionately impacts women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities.” “Beginning today, we will not allow the sharing of private media, such as images or videos of private individuals without their consent. Publishing people's private info is also prohibited under the policy, as is threatening or incentivizing others to do so,” Twitter also noted. Twitter's guidelines will also leave room for interpretation based on “context.” “Our existing private information policy includes many exceptions in order to enable robust reporting on newsworthy events and conversations that are in the public interest,” Twitter's guidelines state.” Lastly, lets get an update on former disgraced Governor Cuomo and his brother “objective journalist” Chris Cuomo: Roll clip: https://www.today.com/video/chris-cuomo-s-link-with-former-ny-gov-andrew-cuomo-draws-new-focus-127500357987 What strikes me about all this, is that CNN claims to be an objective news source and yet they continue to hire journalist that cover up major news stories, or that masterbate on live company conference calls like Jeffrey Toobin did. CNN really is a cesspool of liars, molesters, and power hungry zealots. They really do hate the truth.  Closing This is Gabriel Rench with Crosspolitic News. Natali Morris – Embrace Your Soul Journey

My Worst Investment Ever Podcast

Natali Morris is a former network news anchor turned personal finance educator and motivator. Her specialties include personal finance, business, and technology. She is currently a contributor to CNBC and MSNBC where she was previously an anchor, a role she also filled prior to that at CBS Interactive. Her experience includes being a contributor to CBS News and the TODAY show, along with CNN, ABC News, G4TV (a former US digital cable and satellite TV channel), BBC, The CW, Fox News, Fox Business News, and Univision (Spanish-language reporting). She has written for Consumer Reports, WIRED, Variety magazine, MarketWatch, TechCrunch, The San Francisco Examiner, PC Magazine, ELLEgirl (now defunct), the Oakland Tribune (now the East Bay Times), and more. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University East Bay, and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Southern California. Prior to 2010, you may have seen her work under her maiden name, Natali Del Conte. Natali is from the San Francisco Bay Area. She lives and works with her husband Clayton and their three small children. Her sole focus is to not screw them up.   “I don’t want focus all the time on shrinking my life, because that’s what I’m worth, I want us, all of us to expand our lives.” Natali Morris   Andrew’s question about learning finance “When you first looked at the idea of learning finance, or learning investing for yourself … how did you feel about what you were faced with?” Natali’s response “If you look at your finances, how to get them in order and how to then save and invest, as a whole, it’s too much … I started reading these books about how many fees are in your funds, and your IRA and your 401k, and I got myself all worked up and pissed off. And then I was like, well, where do I put them? … So … that wasn’t getting me anywhere until I decided: ‘Okay, take one thing, learn that one thing and that teaches you the language of finance to go to the next’.”   Andrew’s points on learning Learn one book or take one step at a time Someone once asked Andrew: “How many books have you read?” The answer was: “Thousands!” The query continued: “How did you read so many books? Andrew answered: “I read them one at a time.” In reference to Natali’s “learn one thing at a time” strategy, Andrew agrees, saying: “Take one small step at a time.” Mother set example for family financial planning Andrew’s mother was very much involved in his household’s financial decisions and money management. His mother and father worked together for years to build financial security, so that they lived a period of 20 years retirement without financial trouble. When Andrew’s father passed away, his mother moved to Thailand with him and she is still financially independent. Cutting costs has a limit, growing wealth has few You can never get to true success in business, investing or in building wealth by cutting costs. There is a limit to cutting costs, so the other part has to answer the question: “How do we grow?”   Worst investment ever FBI probe of investment dare not speak its name Natali had some trouble choosing her worst, as she’s had so many challenges. One story she can’t really talk about because it is the subject of an active FBI investigation into some funds that were in her IRA. This investment was particularly heartbreaking because she had her children’s investments tied up in that situation, as well hers and her husband’s. Another situation also involved trust Natali and her husband Clayton (a previous guest on this podcast) got into business with someone during the past five years. They were helping other people invest in off-market properties. Their partner was a fiduciary (a fiduciary relationship is formed between two parties who trust each other. In real estate, a fiduciary relationship is created between a real estate agent, known as the fiduciary, and a buyer or a seller, known as the principal) who was selling all the houses and Natali and Clayton we were getting referrals on any investors that went through him. Towards the end of their relationship, they realized that a lot of the rehabs he had said he had carried out, had not been done or were incomplete. And so that really ended up exposing them to a lot more liability than they had planned for.   General lessons It’s very hard to save your way to wealth In fact, Natali says it’s almost impossible. She found that a very difficult change in her thinking. But change she did, and now she tells her clients and students that if she could achieve that shift, then other people can do it too.   Andrew’s takeaways Collated from this My Worst Investment Ever series, the six main categories of mistakes made by interviewees, from the most common, are:    Failed to do their own research Failed to properly assess and manage risk Were driven by emotion or flawed thinking Misplaced trust Failed to monitor their investment Invested in a start-up company Mistake No. 4 is Misplaced Trust Andrew goes on to ask Natali about the signs so that listeners are not sucked into a similar difficult situation. Natali’s lessons on trust delve into the spiritual Natali and Clayton explored why this had happened, looked back through their communications, and how they formed the relationship and they found it very hard to pin down how they could have known, so Natali calls this more of a “soul challenge” than a practical challenge, because she and her husband were unable to determine how they could have averted the results of this fiduciary partner’s misrepresentation. Need for healing other than legal, practical redress Natali and her husband actually teach people to take charge, run their numbers, research risks, understand who they are dealing with and do their due diligence. They had done all that. So after a few occasions of misplaced trust, she started to seek healing. The lessons she learned came from a spiritual perspective, and that somehow, they had been led toward all of the steps that she needed to protect herself before this happened. Higher power hints to put protections in place She had been working closely with state lawyers to make sure they had a domestic asset protection trust, and another instrument close to an offshore trust that is available under US law. She had educated herself and established those trusts before she and Clayton had had any problems. She had educated herself on different insurance plans and decided to open a captive insurance plan, a kind of advanced investor tool. She was prepared and she realized that a lot of times when a “big soul challenge” is coming, you have been prepared in ways by which you were not fully aware. Then when it hits, you realize why you needed to be so prepared. She says, some kind of spiritual guidance or guardian angel or higher power is putting in front of you the people you’re going to need, the books, the podcasts, and the information to guide you along your path. If you pick them up, you will be more prepared for the soul challenge when it comes. What if she hadn't been so ready? Natali often wonders what would have happened if she had failed to pick up the tools she had found before her? If she had just stepped over them before the soul challenge arrived, she would be injured much worse. She would have been saying: “I could have read that book. I should have called that person, I could have hired that estate lawyer.” Natali Morris   Andrew on spiritual preparation Right path is usually not so hard Some people say that they’re searching for God’s will on a matter. Others could say: “It’s just the right path for me to travel in life.” Andrew argues that the right path is usually not too difficult. If you find yourself getting in too much difficulty, it is probably a good idea to step back. When you think about spiritual preparation, look for a path. It’s not necessarily the easiest path, but it makes sense, and it feels right. Listen to your intuition When something feels wrong, pay attention, bring it up and put it right on your desk in front of you.   “You get into this scary time … you’re in … the belly of the whale … and you’re like, ‘how did I get here?’, I don’t know what the journey is and you have help along the way and somehow you come out of it a different person, and it shows you what you’re made of and what you’re supposed to learn from it.” Natali Morris   Actionable advice Look for the next book Natali recommends letting the next book or message fall in front of you and then read it, follow the intuitions or “wisps” or whatever is trying to guide. “Every moment gives you an opportunity to see and ask ‘Is this preparing me for something that I need to know?’ Let me give it some real thought.” Read A Hero with 1,000 Faces and you will realize all mythology has a story to teach us about how we are being prepared for our own hero’s journey. Natali is still involved in many painful situations, but she may not come out of them a hero, but that doesn’t mean she will quit. She’s learned a lot about herself, especially during 2018, when she had her husband went through difficult times. But now, she is stronger, not afraid of money, not afraid of investments, and willing to take on a seller finance deal and talk to a lender. A lot stronger than the “little housewife” she was trying to avoid being. Andrew’s value-added comment You’re stronger than you think. When you face difficult challenges out there, the reality is that you can make it through.   No. 1 goal for next the 12 months Natali wants to find a way to put the benefits of her and her husband’s Financial Freedom Academy in the hands of the people that need it the most, so that whatever soul challenges that have to do with money in their lives, they are not afraid. To listeners: Anyone who is facing the results of their worst investment, “this is just their opportunity to slay the dragons”.   Parting words “I appreciate you being empathetic and letting me talk.”     You can also check out Andrew’s books How to Start Building Your Wealth Investing in the Stock Market My Worst Investment Ever 9 Valuation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Transform Your Business with Dr. Deming’s 14 Points  Connect with Natali Morris LinkedIn Twitter Facebook Personal website Business website Blog Email Connect with Andrew Stotz astotz.com  LinkedIn Facebook  Instagram Twitter  YouTube My Worst Investment Ever Podcast Further reading mentioned Natali and Clayton Morris (2018) How To Pay Off Your Mortgage In Five Years: Slash your mortgage with a proven system the banks don’t want you to know about Joseph Campbell (1949) The Hero With a Thousand Faces (The Collected Works of Joseph Campbell)

We all know it's expensive to live in the Bay Area. But just how unaffordable is it? Reporters with the Mercury News and the East Bay Times looked at how high rents and mortgages have climbed since 2012, and it will blow your mind. People making $100,000 can afford to live in just 28 percent of Bay Area neighborhoods. And if you're making less than $64,000, you basically have no options. The Missing Pieces Podcast returns! Jaime interviews his former student, Anna Chen. Anna is currently a pre-med student at Johns Hopkins. Jaime wonders why so many of his top all-around students are female Asians, so he poses that question to Anna, a female Asian. He also asks Anna about a thought he had while watching CRAZY RICH ASIANS - that pursuing your passion may be a selfish American thing to do that runs contrary to (the more Asian?)"family first" philosophy.
