The most exciting development for investors and entrepreneurs alike is how actionable insights, not just anecdotes or hype, are driving smarter decisions and better results. In this episode, Sherwood Neiss, Principal at Crowdfund Capital Advisors and one of the original architects behind the legislation that made regulated investment crowdfunding possible, shares his unique perspective. Sherwood's new book, Investomers, distills fourteen years of experience, offering a comprehensive look into what makes this industry tick and how anyone—investor, entrepreneur, or policymaker—can benefit. What sets Sherwood apart is a dedication to grounding everything in robust data. Early on, he recognized that the industry needed more than vision; it needed transparency and metrics. “From the minute this industry launched, we've been collecting information, not just on the companies and where they are and their financials and all that stuff, but every day, how much money has been committed to an offering and how many investors. With those data points, we can track what we call investor sentiment,” Sherwood explained. This relentless focus on measurement is not just academic. It empowers investors to make informed decisions and helps founders understand what drives successful campaigns. “The book is a lot of data-driven insights from the work that we've done with investment crowdfunding about the economic rationale for this,” Sherwood shared. He's created tools and reports that highlight where the signals for success are strongest, always encouraging readers and clients to dig into the numbers for themselves.Crucially, Sherwood's work is not just about numbers, but about democratizing access to capital and opportunity. “Many of the reasons for failure is lack of capital, which I'm hoping we're solving for with investment crowdfunding,” he noted, underscoring the human impact behind the data. For those eager to learn more or to leverage these insights in their own investing, Sherwood's company is not currently raising capital from the crowd but is focused on providing invaluable data and advisory services through Crowdfund Capital Advisors and their C-Clear platform. Investomers is available now, offering a blueprint for anyone who wants to invest smarter or build something meaningful in this rapidly evolving space.Sherwood's passion and open-handed approach to sharing what works—and what doesn't—make this episode a resource for anyone looking to turn data into a tool for empowerment and positive change.tl;dr:Sherwood Woodie Neiss shares how data-driven insights are transforming investment crowdfunding for investors and entrepreneurs. He reveals the story behind launching Crowdfund Capital Advisors and building a comprehensive industry database.Sherwood explains how his new book, Investomers, distills years of experience and research into actionable guidance. He describes his superpower: breaking big goals into small steps and using accountability to achieve them. The episode highlights practical strategies for making progress on major projects by leveraging data and discipline. How to Develop Relentless Follow-Through As a SuperpowerWoodie's superpower is his ability to say yes to opportunities and follow through by breaking daunting challenges into manageable steps. As Woodie described, “I am one of these people that I'm a yes man. So I am constantly saying yes, instead of saying, I'm sorry, no, I can't...you need to take anything that you're doing and break it down into 100 steps. And then do one of those a day...the principle of that, the theory behind it is break everything down into small chunks, so that you can accomplish something in a day, in a week or whatever, but it keeps the ball moving forward.”Woodie illustrated this superpower vividly by recounting how he managed to write a 400-page book, Investomers, while juggling his many professional responsibilities. He set a big goal at the start of the year, broke it down into about a hundred discrete steps, and methodically worked through them, bit by bit, over the course of the year. He even enlisted a friend as an accountability partner, meeting weekly to track progress, ensure he stayed on task, and remove nonessential items from his plate. This system helped him complete the book in just over a year while keeping all his other commitments moving forward. To cultivate relentless follow-through, Woodie suggests:Break large goals into small, actionable stepsSet regular milestones and track your progressFind an accountability partner who will meet with you weeklyBe willing to reprioritize and move less important tasks off your plateCommit to a schedule and honor it—treat your accountability meetings as non-negotiableBy following Woodie's example and advice, you can make relentless follow-through a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileWoodie Neiss (he/him):Principal, Crowdfund Capital Advisors, LLCAbout Crowdfund Capital Advisors, LLC:  CCA is a data-driven investment crowdfunding consulting and advisory services firm. Fostering Meaningful Connections and Effective LeadershipIn a recent episode of "The Thoughtful Entrepreneur," host Josh engages in a compelling conversation with Andrew Horn, the co-founder and CEO of Tribute, and the founder of the Institute for Relational Leadership. The discussion delves into Andrew's innovative work in enhancing human connections and leadership effectiveness through his two ventures. This blog post will break down the key themes and actionable insights from the episode, providing valuable guidance for listeners and readers alike.Andrew Horn shares a deeply personal story that inspired the creation of Tribute. On his 27th birthday, his partner surprised him with a video compilation featuring heartfelt messages from 20 of his closest friends and family. This emotional gift left a lasting impression on Andrew, highlighting the profound impact of meaningful gestures. However, he quickly realized the challenges involved in creating such videos, which often required extensive coordination and technical skills. This realization led to the founding of Tribute, a platform designed to simplify the process of creating and sharing impactful video montages. Tribute has facilitated the creation of over 7 million tribute videos worldwide, with 82% of recipients reporting "tears of joy" when watching their tribute videos. In addition to Tribute, Andrew founded the Institute for Relational Leadership, which provides training and frameworks for leaders to navigate difficult conversations and build collaborative teams. Effective leadership hinges on interpersonal dynamics and communication, and the Institute aims to equip leaders with the tools and language necessary to foster thriving relationships within their teams. The Institute has developed a five-step framework designed to help leaders engage constructively with conflict and foster collaboration. Andrew emphasizes the importance of objectivity in communication and offers practical advice for leaders, including active listening, asking open-ended questions, and maintaining composure under pressure.About Andrew Horn:Andrew Horn is an entrepreneur, speaker and leadership coach who Forbes recently called “Dale Carnegie for the digital age.”He built his last company Tribute.co to 8-figures, millions of users and landed at #256 on the INC500 before stepping down to focus on coaching and growing IRL - the Institute for Relational Leadership. Andrew spends most of his time helping high-impact entrepreneurs and executives to master a relationship-centric path to success, fulfillment and leadership excellence. He frequently speaks for organizations like Google, The Cleveland Clinic and he's even been featured on the homepage of TED.com.He's on a mission to create art that reminds him how he wants to live and his creations revolve around three core pillars; radical authenticity, personal integrity and relational mastery.About Tribute:Tribute makes it easy to create and gift a love-filled group video montage. CEO BLINDSPOTS® PODCAST GUEST: Curtis A. Hite. Curtis is the CEO of Improving. He began his career as a software engineer building systems in the Defense industry – first with Rockwell International and then at E-Systems (later acquired by Raytheon). In 1998, Curtis and several partners founded Expede, a software development consulting and training company. Its quick growth drew the attention of a French company, Valtech, which acquired them in 1999. Curtis soon became CEO of Valtech's North American operations and remained in that position until late 2006. In early 2007, Curtis and many of the same partners established the Blue Ocean Group, which quickly acquired a small training company called Improving Enterprises and adopted the Improving name. The company has been blessed with continued growth since then — repeatedly receiving accolades including the Inc500/5000, Dallas 100, and Aggie 100. More importantly, the company has received recognitions from its employees as one of the best work places in Texas as noted by the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Business Journal, and Texas Monthly. Curtis graduated from Texas A&M University in 1994 with a B.S. and M.S. in computer science. At Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, serving as commanding officer of Squadron 6 and as a member of the Ross Volunteers. In 2007 Curtis was honored by the Department of Computer Science as a CSE Distinguished Former Student and later in 2013 he received the inaugural Outstanding Early Professional Achievement Alumni Honor Award from the Dwight Look College of Engineering. Side-Hustles, which - with a lot of hard work - evolve into full-time businesses are a theme of many entrepreneurial journeys. We've covered a fair few on this show. But Brenden Marquardt's story is particularly interesting for a few reasons: even though he was in a well-paid finance job, and knew he wasn't great at ‘ideas', he did the groundwork to be ready for when the opportunity he was looking for presented itself. On today's show Brenden, Co-Founder of Homestead Brands talks to Dan about how a chance click on a website led him to buy Lori Beds, his methodology for working ‘on' not ‘in' the business “When I hired my first executive team member Dodes, who manages our product - the manufacturing, relationships, logistics and things like that. Even before I hired him, just talking with him, I realised we had set our goals way too small, because I didn't know how to do any of those things that he spent every day doing in the furniture industry”. Staffing is one of the most important aspects of growing a business but can also be one of the most challenging. Not only do employers need to find suitable candidates, but they also need to make sure that those candidates are a good fit for the company culture and will be able to hit the ground running. That's where recruiters come in. A good recruiter will have a vast network of stellar candidates to choose from, and they will also have the expertise necessary to evaluate each candidate's skills, experience, and personality. As a result, working with a recruiter is often the best way for business owners to find the high-quality employees they need to take their business to the next level. Join our guest, Jordan Franklin, CEO at Stratice LLC, as she shares an in-depth look at the role of recruiters in helping companies attract top talent and her secrets on how she grew her company by 103% in just three years. She got her degree in Chemistry but somehow ended up working for a staffing agency. She then realized that there was another way to help people without spending a lot of money to get a doctorate. Jordan likes to sit next to people she doesn't know, strike up a conversation with them, and ask them what they do. She believes that building your network is how you build your net worth. And since she's in the staffing industry, this “party trick” has worked for her. Today, Jordan Franklin is the CEO at Stratice, LLC, a women-owned talent management firm. For many businesses, patents protect more than just an idea or a concept. It also safeguards true business assets that are critical to a company's existence in the long term. Aside from the protection it provides, patents can also be used as leverage to give companies a competitive advantage. It can also drive revenues and profitability, which in some cases, could turn into 9 to 10-figure monetization events. That is why every growing company, regardless if they choose to pursue a patent or not, should have an Intellectual Property (IP) strategy to help them develop, grow, leverage, and monetize their portfolio of IP assets such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, etc. However, with technological innovations happening rapidly and a new “shiny” object being invented almost every day, what seems logical to get patented now could become obsolete tomorrow. In this case, would a patent still be worth it? Or will it be just another piece of very expensive paper? We are pleased to hear from Keegan Caldwell, Managing Partner at Caldwell Intellectual Property Law, as he shares his insights on patent-related matters and his unique journey from struggling with narcotics addiction, to having a Ph.D. in chemistry, to building the #1 fastest-growing law firm in the country. Top Takeaways: 05:48 One of the sad things about law firms 06:27 How Keegan got his first client 11:01 How Keegan grew his business 16:13 What most successful people have in common 19:11 The value of morale in building a unicorn company 21:30 How to define if something is or isn't patentable 25:51 How to determine a patent's value 28:59 The potential dangers of not having your innovations patented 34:21 How much does it cost to get something patented 40:44 Why every company needs an IP strategy 43:47 What the patent system was initially created for 51:19 Keegan's advice for someone who is planning to become an attorney 54.35 The most exciting invention from Keegan's current clients To get in touch with Keegan Caldwell, go to Website: https://caldwellip.com/ About the guest: After finishing high school, Keegan Caldwell joined the Marines and worked as an engineer. He got into the construction business for a couple of years when he got out. Unfortunately, this was also when he had some substance abuse issues and got into legal trouble. Eventually, he was able to turn his life around and got the help he needed. With his grandmother's advice, he went to college to take up biomedical science and earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. While doing his Ph.D., he worked as an intern in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He discovered he could become a patent lawyer without going to law school. Upon graduating with his Ph.D., he decided to take the Patent Bar and pass. But Keegan didn't want to be limited to Patent Law. Certain states in the US allow one to take the state bar without going to law school. So he took the state bar and is now a full-pledged lawyer. Today, Keegan Caldwell is a Managing Partner at Caldwell Intellectual Property Law. They provide technical expertise and post-grant experience to help organizations convert innovation into defensible intellectual property.

Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. If not detected early, 80% of patients do not make it after five years. Dr. Aki Alzubaidi, an interventional pulmonologist, knew that the best way to beat the statistics is early detection. He wanted to identify all the patients in his own clinic who had a specific abnormality, or a spot on the lungs that could become a cancer. Yet, flagging all these patients and trying to keep up with all of them became too overwhelming. He tried to look for a solution out there but found none. Thus, the idea of using a software to help with the early detection of lung cancer was born. For any business, growth is absolutely essential - most especially now that we are in the digital age. And while more and more people are using their smartphones and devices to purchase their needs, many businesses are now considering having their own web and mobile apps as a means to connect with their customers. Web and mobile apps can be an extremely useful tool for most companies, but developing one can consume a lot of time and money. And if your systems are outdated or you lack the technical know-how when it comes to developing web and mobile technology solutions, your efforts will only be wasted. Which is why having the right people that you can rely on to help grow your business by providing the right tools and can partner with you to build the product from concept to completion, is crucially important. Let us hear from Andrew Amman, CEO of NineTwoThree Digital Ventures, as he shares his journey from working as a nuclear submarine engineer, to becoming an intrapreneur, then eventually as an entrepreneur with a business that achieved a 1,344% 3-Year Growth and have landed a spot in the top 10% of 2021 INC 5000 list. He practiced the method of asking companies to “productize” some of his ideas. Eventually, he ended up getting a patent in Bluetooth tracking for manufacturing facilities. And through that repeatable process of working for a company and selling them a product idea, Andrew realized that I had the confidence to go off and do it as an entrepreneur. In 2012, Andrew met Pavel Kirillov, an Intel Engineer from Israel. They shared the same passion so they came together to create their first mobile app. They were building the product from 9PM to 3AM and that's where the name NineTwoThree Digital Studio came from. Jeff and his team realized that the cannabis industry was still in its infancy but it has great potential to grow tremendously fast. A year later, they decided to focus entirely on the retailers, brands, and wholesalers that are servicing the cannabis industry. Today, Jeff is the Co-Founder and CEO of springbig, a provider of customer-loyalty software to cannabis retailers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. This year, his company achieved a 1,285% growth securing the 374th spot on the list. Let's welcome to the show, the Founder of Equity & Help, Ivan Anz. Ivan developed his entrepreneurial skills at a very young age. At 7 years old, he used to lease his Go-Kart to his friends and neighbors. At 14, he started leasing and training people on how to use 4x4's on mountains. He sold a million dollars worth of Herbalife products annually, making him the youngest person to make it to the millionaire's team. He eventually ventured into real estate. He also got involved in speculative investments like stocks, forex, and cryptocurrency. However, even as he was earning a lot of money then, he felt that there was no sense of fulfillment in what he's doing. So in 2009, he started to look for ways not just to invest but to invest with a purpose. Then one day, he met a buyer who really wanted to purchase a property but was unable to afford it. It's a sad reality that a lot of people still don't have access to traditional mortgages. He realized that this was an opportunity for investing while helping a deserving family at the same time. That's when the concept of philanthroinvesting was born. Hello, everyone. Welcome back to CEO Secrets. Today's guest is a successful serial entrepreneur. He has helped his company grow its revenue by 22,381% between 2017 and 2020 which landed them the 11th spot out of 5000 of the fastest-growing companies in America. Let's welcome to the show, the President and CEO at Texas Solar, Mike Sardo. Mike Sardo pursued a degree in coaching because wanted to be a public school coach. Yet, his path took on a different course and it was his passion for cheerleading that led him to put up his first business - a cheerleading gym. It served 900 students at that time and expanded to three other locations that served close to 1400 kids per week. One of the things he learned about himself during this time is that he didn't like jobs. And once the challenge of starting from scratch or turning a business around wears off, it turns into a job. He felt like the business was not for him and he ended up selling it after a couple of years. This set him into a pattern of buying struggling businesses and turning them around. Two years ago, Mike came across Texas Solar, a company that had been going up and down for the last 13 years and needed some management help. He and his partner eventually bought most of the company and decided to focus on the product which caused substantial growth for the business. Let us hear from Mike as he shares his journey and how he helped a struggling company turn around and achieve exponential growth in a short span of time. Top Takeaways: 06:30 How Mike got involved with Texas Solar 09:07 How to get a competitive advantage over multi-billion dollar companies 15:05 The impact of the massive power outage in Texas had on their business 16:14 The “silver bullet” to achieve massive growth for your business 18:04 What is Texas Solar's #1 channel for sales? 19:19 Does Texas Solar use brand awareness to make affiliates find them 21:44 Texa Solar's core strategy 29:15 How to get salespeople to go door knocking 31:12 Mike's advice to anyone wanting to successfully grow their business 33:42 What does the future look like for Texas Solar? He is the CEO and Founder of OJO Labs, which ranked 49th out of 5000 of the fastest-growing companies in America. I'm super excited to welcome on the show, John Berkowitz. John came from a family of entrepreneurs. This fueled his desire to seek out problems that have never been solved before, find solutions, and build a business around them. In 2005, he co-founded Yodle, an all-in-one digital marketing platform for more than 50,000 SMB customers. It was later acquired by Web.com for $342 million. However, John felt unfulfilled after the exit from Yodle. He felt that he didn't meet their company's goal, making a significant difference in favor of small business owners. This is why in 2015, he started OJO Labs to empower real estate consumers to make better decisions with the help of deeply personalized technology. Today, OJO Labs has expanded to five regions with over 500 employees. They've also acquired several technology companies over the years and are expected to grow by 250% by the end of the year. Let us hear from John as he shares how his biggest failure led him to build a business that is a powerhouse in the industry and provides real-world value. Top Takeaways: 9:07 How the Prime Minister of St.Lucia jumpstarted their company's startup. 12:49 What do OJO Labs' growth and growing bamboo have in common? 15:10 Does John consider Zillow as a competitor? 16:34 What is OJO Labs' strategy to overcome a behemoth like Zillow? 17:42 Why not being number one on Google doesn't mean you can't be a more prominent company 17:55 The importance of identifying the right partners 20:36 The one feature you could focus on that would just suck off so much traffic from portals like Realtor.com and Zillow 22:43 The most significant innovation in real estate 24:24 Why John thinks that iBuyers and cash offers are just iterations on an old business 25:37 What makes OJO Labs significantly different or better than Zillow? 27:17 The thing that John has been obsessing about for the last five years 29:44 What was John's most significant failure? 33:26 Why John feels super-uncomfortable when it comes to awards 34:51 When to raise money, and when to bootstrap? Hello, everyone. Welcome back to CEO Secrets. Our guest for today is the CEO and Co-Founder at Kitu Life Inc., makers of Super Coffee. He and his brother's company ranked #18 on Inc. 5000 and they also made it to Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2019. Let's welcome, Jim DeCicco. Jim DeCicco came from a humble, blue-collar family. Growing up, he and his brothers became student-athletes. When they were in college, Jim's younger brother Jordan, had to attend basketball practices early in the morning and stay up late at night to study. He wanted a drink that is delicious, healthy, and could sustain his energy for the day. Yet, the only ones available then were loaded with sugar and artificial ingredients. That's when he decided to brew his own healthy coffee and pitched the idea to his brothers to start Super Coffee. Hoping to expand their brand on a national scale, Jim and his brothers joined ABC's Shark Tank, in 2018. One of the judges on the show commented that although their coffee is still very healthy compared to other energy drinks out there, the sweetener they used in their coffee left an unpleasant aftertaste. This prompted them to use a different sweetener and came up with a 100% sugar-free coffee with just 70 calories. This new formula has become a key differentiator for their brand. Let us hear from Jim as he shares how he and his brothers grew their brand to become the number 3 bottled coffee drink in the US, achieved 55M in annual revenue, and 400M in valuation in 6 years. For those of you who caught my interview with Kizzy Dominguez last week, today will be more of her wisdom, insights and knowledge. If you're not familiar with Kizzy, She always knew that she wanted to be an entrepreneur from an early age, eventually landing herself to founding K Parks Consulting, INC, KPC. KPC Provides staffing professional and in IT training curriculum development for the government. What I like most about Kizzy is that she comes from a down to earth perspective on government contracting. In today's episode, we discuss, what do you need to do to win versus making a profit in govcon the other side of staffing businesses, the good and bad of bidding. Her experience in bidding on an RFP for 40 secretaries, the three camps, when it comes to 8a, making errors as a small business can be unforgiving and stereotype bias of being socio-economic set aside. I have her take on things, which is the reason why we are featuring her in back-to-back episodes, but don't think that just because she's down to earth, that she's not a successful entrepreneur, her company continues to be a consistent winner on the INC 500 list for 2017, 2019, and 2020, ranking 185, clocking a whopping 69%, three year growth. Solve.Care is a global healthcare blockchain technology company. Using innovative approaches, they are working to solve the complex problems that plague healthcare around the world. The Solve.Care journey began when they realized that the current healthcare system is failing us. Too complex and involving too much bureaucracy, the system is unbearable, even for the healthy. If you or a loved one becomes ill, then you unavoidably become mired in an endless cycle of attempting to coordinate medical care. For these reasons, they began to build a patient-centric platform, one that actually connects people, and coordinates benefits, care, and payments. Since setting off on this journey, they have built a global community of tens of thousands and growing. Today, the core Solve.Care team numbers over 100 full-time specialists, working worldwide, with hundreds more contractors and advisors. Solve.Care was also awarded the Most Innovative Blockchain Project Award at the Blockchain Life 2019 Forum in Singapore. Solve.Care CEO Pradeep Goel is a healthcare executive with a relentless focus on improving the administration, coordination, quality, and efficiency of care. He is also armed with over 25 years of healthcare experience as CEO, COO, CIO and CTO in insurance, benefits administration and public programs. Pradeep has been passionate about designing and building solutions for public programs, such as Medicaid, the Children Health Insurance Program, Medicare, SNAP/TANF, the Child Welfare Program, and other health insurance and health information exchanges. In his time, he has built four healthcare IT companies and taken them to the top of Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500, INC500/5000 fastest-growing companies vlists multiple times. Pradeep is also in the rankings of the 100 Most Promising Entrepreneurs Worldwide, as compiled by Goldman Sachs. I invited Pradeep onto this tech podcast to learn more about Solve Care and what motivated him to establish a decentralized healthcare platform built on blockchain technology.

Daisy Jing struggled with cystic acne and scarring since the third grade, her acne would be so bad there would be blood on her towels when drying her face after washing it, she also struggled with her self esteem due to bullying and took to creating a Youtube channel as an outlet to share about her journey. Eventually Daisy came up with her own concoction to treat her acne and scars and the results were so good people watching her Youtube videos started asking what she was doing to clear her skin and if they could buy it from her, the rest is history... Five years later Banish is a multi million company featured on Forbes, and Daisy´s mission to help people feel confident in their own skin through healthy living, diet and natural skincare products is an inspiration and a beacon of hope to thousands.   Daisy Jing is the CEO and founder of Banish, a multimillion dollar skincare company that only sells on its website, banish.com. Daisy started Banish by accident; she had struggled with acne all her life and decided to create a YouTube channel documenting her struggle. That YouTube channel has over 700 videos and 70M views today. From there, she realized many current skincare ingredients such as fragrances or fillers break her out and created her own products out of her kitchen. All the products are natural, vegan, cruelty free, do not contain any of the ingredients that causes acne for her (namely silicones, mineral oil, petroleums, artificial preservatives colors and fragrances). The rest is history! Daisy was awarded Forbes ‘30 Under 30’ in manufacturing, as well as an Inc500 entrepreneur and awarded in LA’s “Fastest growing female owned companies in Los Angeles”. She also serves on the board of Entrepreneur Organization-Los Angeles, is a member of Young Entrepreneur Council, and has sponsored and mentored many young female entrepreneurs through her alumni, the Duke Alumni Association. Most recently, she is a Tedx speaker and speaks regularly about the struggles we battle with perfection and how to overcome our own inner critic.   Episode sponsored by www.LashBinder.com  Learn more about Banish here: Banish Website: banish.com/cleanbeauty for $10 off   (or use code cleanbeauty) About Banish: www.banishacnescars.com/pages/about-banish Banish Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/banishacnescars Banish Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/daiserz89   Daisy´s other Podcasts and appearances: http://foodhealsnation.com/220/ http://stephencabral.com/podcast/798/ http://letstalkaboutitwithtaylornolan.libsyn.com/website/ep53-self-confidence https://growtheverywhere.com/growth-everywhere-interview/daisy-jing-banish/ https://youtu.be/nli4FgBEeYY    Banish supports the following organizations: Breast Cancer Research Foundation / Animal Friends Rescue Project / School on Wheels
