Again email follow@bestcelticmusic Last month, I led my Celtic Invasion of County Wexford. We visited the National 1798 Irish Rebellion Museum. I learned a lot. In the summer of 1798, in the town of Enniscorthy, a spark was lit that echoed across the centuries. Inspired by the ideals of liberty and self - determination that fueled the American and French Revolutions, ordinary Irish men and women rose up against British rule—hoping to shape a freer, more equal Ireland. The United Irishmen, a movement of Protestants and Catholics alike, dreamed of unity. But their rebellion was met with brutal force. The most haunting chapter came to a head on Vinegar Hill, where rebels made their last stand. Though the 1798 Rebellion was crushed, the spirit behind it lived on. It became a quiet current beneath Irish history, resurfacing again in 1916 during the Easter Rising—and carrying through to modern Ireland. Today's episode features songs and tunes inspired by the 1798 rebellion. These are songs of hope, defiance, heartbreak, and memory. This episode is not about blame. They're about telling the stories of those who dared to dream of freedom. GET AN IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST ALBUM PIN Want to wear your love of Celtic music? Brian Cox and Robin Ince blast off into a cosmic controversy as they ask, should humanity become an interplanetary species? At Harwell Campus, a space science innovation hub, they're joined by astronaut Tim Peake, biologist and Royal Society prize winning author Kelly Weinersmith, and comedian Alan Davies to explore the science, ethics, and challenges of settling on Mars or on the Moon. Are we bold pioneers venturing into the unknown, or just reckless tenants abandoning Earth in search of a new abode? Our panel discuss whether space settlement is inevitable in humanity's near future and how pushing the boundaries of space exploration could make extra-terrestrial travel more accessible to the masses. From sourcing materials, to surviving radiation, and even growing potatoes from poo, they tackle what it really would take to live a life beyond Earth!Series Producer: Melanie Brown Assistant Producer: Olivia Jani Executive Producer: Alexandra FeachemBBC Studios Audio Production

If you ever find yourself floating above the clouds of Saturn, gazing upon the planet’s magnificent rings, you might feel like you need to get your eyes checked. Even at noon, when the Sun is highest in the sky, the view will look as dim as the minutes before sunrise or after sunset here on Earth. That’s because Saturn is almost 10 times farther from the Sun than Earth is. At that distance, the Sun shines only about one percent as bright as it does on Earth. And that presents some problems for spacecraft that travel to Saturn. For one thing, they can’t use solar power. They’d need huge arrays of solar cells, which would make a craft far too heavy and expensive. Instead, Saturn-bound missions are nuclear powered. For another, it’s hard to take good pictures. A craft has to leave the shutter open for a long time to properly expose an image. At the speeds a craft is moving, that blurs the shot. The solution is to turn either the camera or the entire spacecraft to stay focused on the target. No spacecraft are operating at Saturn now. The next one is scheduled for launch in a few years. It’ll ferry a small helicopter to Saturn’s big moon Titan – under the faint light of the distant Sun. Saturn appears near our own Moon early tomorrow. It looks like a bright star, standing just below the Moon at dawn. The planet fades from view as the sky brightens – under the full glory of the nearby Sun. Script by Damond Benningfield
“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth.” Isaiah 40:26-28As we enter the book of Isaiah, we are moving from the wisdom literature into the prophets. In many ways it's a good thing that Isaiah is the first of the major prophets we read because it's the most accessible. Isaiah paints a portrait, not just of Israelite history, but of the God who is above it all - the God who is both creator and master of all things, but also close, loving and kind. Isaiah is a long book coming in at 66 chapters, but it is rich with history, the character of God, and hope for the savior that is to come. To help us navigate the book of Isaiah is Dr. Andrew Abernethy Professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College and author of not one, not two, but three books on Isaiah. Today on part two of our conversation on the Rarified Heir Podcast, this episode continues our conversation with Peter Rafelson, son of director and producer Bob Rafelson. Recorded the week after part one, this episode delves into some pretty heavy as well as some pretty of the wall stuff. And as you have heard on part one, it seems like that was par for the course in the Rafelson household in the 1960s and 1970s. As one of the leading figures in the American New Wave filmmakers, Bob Rafelson was responsible for producing or directing some classic, seminal films that influenced generations of film makers. It's quite a resume including films like The Postman Always Rings Twice, Head, The Last Picture Show, Easy Rider, The King of Marvin Gardens, Mountains of the Moon, a film we discuss at length, Stay Hungry as well as an unfortunately named anthology, Porn.com. Beginning with Davy Jones, we also discuss what each member of The Monkees was like off camera, how he spent the Summer of 1975 pumping iron with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Alabama, his role in the Alan Parker movie Fame, how the magazine Psychology Today saved his bacon growing up as a kid and everything in between. We discuss dyslexia, smoking pot with your teachers, trade school, working with his dad scoring a film and much more. So get ready for part two of our conversation with guest Peter Rafelson and learn what it was like having The Monkees instruments in his basement for years after the show ended its run. It's up next on part two of our conversation with the son of an Easy Rider or a Raging Bull. We're just not sure which one it was. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

When Asteroid hunters discover a new object it is given a score ranging from 0 which means it is likely to be a distant main belt asteroid up to 100 which means that it is likely to come near to us. Each newly discovered asteroid which receives a score of 65 or greater is posted on the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object Confirmation Page so that telescopes around the world can track it to estimate it's size as well as to refine our knowledge of it's orbit around the Sun. NASA feeds data on each new discovery into its Scout software system. Scout is designed to identify those objects which are most likely to make a close approach to Earth in the very near future. It's alert allows astronomers to access the new object's risk of impact as well as to study it before it fades into the distance. Fortunately, asteroid hunters have not found any dangerous impacting asteroids, however, Scout's rapid alert has enabled astronomers to measure the size, chemical composition, and rate of rotation for a number of close approaching asteroids. These data are extremely important to plan an effective response should an object be found to be on a collision course with planet Earth. For the vast majority of Earth approaching objects that asteroid hunters discover, additional observations make it less and less likely that an object will impact or even make a very close to approach to our home planet. Those few space rocks which have a tiny remote chance of coming very near to us are passed into NASA Sentry system which makes and keeps astronomers aware of nearby objects so that we do not lose track of them.

This week, Mercury stations for its latest retrograde period. An Aries Last Quarter Moon issues a final call to action in the Cancer New Moon cycle. Mars makes a conjunction with the South Node and asks that we let go of negative Mars traits. Mercury and Venus highlight heartfelt communication, and a listener question about synastry - what if you and your partner have very difficult aspects between your birth charts? Plus: Revisiting a major eclipse, sunshine after a storm, and – are you fooling yourself? Read a full transcript of this episode. Have a question you'd like answered on the show? Email April or leave it here! Subscribe to April's mailing list and get a free lunar workbook at each New Moon! Love the show? Make a donation! Timestamps [1:22] Moon Report! The Aries Last Quarter Moon is on Thu. July 17 (5:38 PM PDT) at 25º40' Aries-Cancer. Both the Last Quarter phase and the Moon in Aries love a call to action-move toward the finish line with purpose. The Moon's Sabian symbol is 26 Aries, A man possessed of more gifts than he can hold, and the Sun is on 26 Cancer, Contentment and happiness in luxury, people reading on davenports. [4:30] This is the Last Quarter in a lunar phase family cycle (LPFC) that began at the New Moon/Solar Eclipse on April 19, 2023, at 29º50' Aries. The First Quarter phase (first action point) of this LPFC on Jan. 17, 2024, at 27º31' Aries, and the Full Moon (awareness point) was on Oct. 17, 2024, at 24º35' Aries. [6:41] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Tue. July 15 (10:10 AM PDT), the Moon in Pisces trines the Sun in Cancer. It's VOC for 11 hours, 22 minutes, then enters Aries (9:32 PM PDT). Go with the flow instead of trying to force things that are not coming naturally. [7:59] The Moon in Aries squares the Sun on Thu. July 17 (5:38 PM PDT). It's VOC for 7 hours, 20 minutes, and enters Taurus on Fri. July 18 (12:58 PM PDT). Use this VOC Moon period to assert your needs in a way that others will probably respect, even if they aren't always pleased with your point of view. [9:05] On Sat., July 19 (11:43 PM PDT), the Moon in Taurus sextiles the Sun in Cancer. It's VOC for 3 hours, 39 minutes, then enters Gemini on Sunday, July 20 (3:22 AM PDT). Spend relaxed time with loved ones, and pledge to make such get-togethers a more frequent occasion. [10:37] Mercury stations retrograde on Thu. July 17 (9:45 PM PDT) at 15º34' Leo, on the Sabian symbol 16 Leo, Sunshine just after a storm. Mercury will be retrograde until Aug. 11, when it turns direct at 04º14' Leo. Retrogrades are the universe's way of slowing us down for a bit, so keep your schedule lighter than you normally would. This retrograde is, in a sense, our permission slip to hit pause. [12:48] On Fri., July 18 (6:37 AM PDT), Mercury retrograde sextiles Venus at 15°34' Leo-Gemini. This aspect invites us to revisit conversations or creative ideas we previously put on hold. Catch up on your emails and your texts on this day. The Sabian symbol for Mercury is 16 Leo, Sunshine just after a storm. The Sabian symbol for Venus is 16 Gemini, A woman Suffragist haranguing. [14:54] Mars conjoins the Moon's South Node on Sunday, July 20 (6:59 PM PDT), at 19º38' Virgo on the Sabian symbol 20 Virgo, An automobile caravan. Adjust your expectations to a somewhat more reasonable standard or level. Refuse to judge others and yourself based on imperfection, and avoid criticizing. [16:57] Listener Joanna asks about synastry. What if you and your partner have very difficult aspects between your birth charts? [22:11] If you'd like to have a question answered on a future episode, leave a message of one minute or less at speakpipe.com/bigskyastrologypodcast or email april (at) bigskyastrology (dot) com; put “Podcast Question” in the subject line. John sits down with Scottish artist, producer and DJ Josh Mainnie, better known as Barry Can't Swim, and producer O' Flynn to discuss how they wrote and recorded the album ‘Loner'. Josh first began releasing under the alias Barry Can't Swim in 2019, releasing a stream of singles that began attracting attention for their melodic, dance-driven style. In 2023, he released his first full-length album, ‘When Will We Land?', which became a huge success, earning him nominations for the Mercury Prize and at the BRIT Awards. ‘Loner' released in July 2025, sees him reflect on his newfound fame and place in the industry, whilst maintaining his signature high energy beats and captivating soundscapes. Sitting down with Josh, and later with collaborator O'Flynn, the conversation dives into the album-making process. They explore Josh's sampling techniques, the ideal mindset and headspace for creating great music, and the stories behind capturing sounds from unexpected places, like the toilets of an Indian restaurant, and turning them into tracks. Tracks discussed: Still Riding, Wandering Mt. Moon, Kimpton TAPE IT Thanks to our friends at Tape It for supporting the podcast. We discuss how various factors, including gravitational influences from the Moon and Sun, tectonic movements, and even human activities, affect Earth's rotation. This episode also highlights the implications of these changes on our timekeeping systems and the necessity of leap seconds to maintain accuracy in clocks and navigation systems.Gilmour Space's Ares 1 Rocket Launch PreparationsGilmour Space is gearing up for the maiden test flight of its Ares 1 orbital rocket after previous launch attempts were postponed due to technical glitches and weather conditions. We delve into the rocket's design, which includes a unique hybrid propulsion system, and discuss the significance of this launch as Australia's first all-Australian designed and built launch vehicle since the 1970s.Revising Earth's Geological TimelineA groundbreaking study suggests that Earth's first solid crust formed from a magma ocean around 4.5 billion years ago, shortly after a massive impact event that created the Moon. This research challenges long-held beliefs about the formation of continents and the onset of plate tectonics, indicating that the chemical signatures of continental crust may have originated much earlier than previously thought. We explore the implications of this study for our understanding of Earth's early geological history and the evolution of life.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesNature Journalhttps://www.nature.com/natureNASAhttps://www.nasa.gov/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-space-astronomy--2458531/support.

Let's welcome back @Paper.Moon.Cosplay & @The_Googinator for a, not-your-usual-format-episode, as we discuss things like X-Men in gaming & film, the DCU's future and, since it was pre-recorded, our Superman thoughts & predictions! Were our fears or hopes unfortunately or fortunately correct now that the movie is out?I think there is a void in gaming that could be a superhero MMORPG of sorts; think DC Universe Online, World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online...what if we had a X-Men MMORPG where you got to create-your-own-mutant and side with either the Brotherhood or..well, the X-Men?!Speaking of the X-Men, where are things headed for them in the MCU? How long does Hugh Jackman truly have left as Wolverine? What's next for the character of Wolverine in the future? So much to discuss!
