Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we speak to guest Kelly Conway daughter of comedy legend Tim Conway. This episode is equal parts fun and funny as well as difficult and heavy as Kelly tells us about the wonderful early years with her father as well as the end-of-life care battle that she had to endure in his later years. It's the stuff you won't soon forget. We discuss her father's career in comedy, beginning in Cleveland with comedian/voice over actor (and sometimes television horror show host) Ernie Anderson. Moreover, we were blown away to learn that Tim Conway was nominated for a whopping 13 Emmy awards. But through it all, Tim Conway was a fantastic father who made family life a priority with silliness and games and is the focus of Conway's biography, My Dad is Funnier Than Your Dad. We discuss her father's connections to Carol Burnett, Steve and Eydie, Bob Newhart, Mike Connors, which were both personal as well as professional. Kelly also doesn't shy away from the dark chapter in the Conway story as the elder Conway became less able to take care of himself. We hear stories about how he was cared for by his second wife and her daughter that is one of the most difficult interviews we have ever done. Somehow Kelly is able to guide us on a journey that had us laughing one minute and on the verge of tears the next. Through it all, Kelly is warm, self-effacing and brutally honest about her father, whom she loved dearly. Take a listen to this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast and keep the Kleenex handy.

The Liberals have held sway in Newfoundland and Labrador ever since the federal and provincial parties won the elections of 2015. But that could be changing. The latest polls suggest Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives might turn the province blue, and while Premier Andrew Furey's Liberals are still narrowly ahead in provincial voting intentions, they now face a new challenger as the opposition PCs have a new leader.Joining me this week to chat about the political scene in Newfoundland and Labrador is Tim Powers, chairperson at Summa Strategies, and Mike Connors, co-anchor of the NTV Evening Newshour and former legislative reporter in St. John's.In addition to listening to this episode of The Writ Podcast in your inbox, at TheWrit.ca or on podcast apps like Apple Podcasts, you can also watch this episode on YouTube. If you're looking for this week's extra episode of The Numbers podcast, it is available for Patreon members here. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Kiki Ebsen, daughter of the great Buddy Ebsen. Now, originally, I was going to say the great actor Buddy Ebsen and he definitely was a great actor. But after talking to Kiki we learned that not only did her father act but he also danced, he sang, he wrote books, he was a master sailor of catamarans and he had great comic skills. Some of this we might have known from shows like The Beverly Hillbillies or Barnaby Jones but did you know Buddy Ebsen's career began when he was discovered by newsman Walter Winchell with his sister as part of a dancing team? Or he was cast in the original The Wizard of Oz but wasn't able to be on screen due to reasons we discuss with Kiki? Or that he was the test case for Walt Disney and modern animatronics? No? Well keep listening. We spoke to Kiki about her upcoming June residency at the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles each Friday in June for her one woman show about her father, My Buddy, The Other Side of Oz. Part memoir, part cabaret and part tribute to her father, the show showcases Kiki's storytelling but her singing as well. It's a love of music that led her to Cal Arts which then led in quick succession a job on the road with the band Chicago and then gigs with Tracy Chapman, Boz Scaggs, Christopher Cross & Al Jarreau among others. Working as a professional musician for other people led Kiki to record nine of her own solo albums in the past decade or so and just recently licensing her songs from the 80s to a label who will release them later this year. Along the way we talk about shows & movies like Matt Houston, Davy Crockett, Tom Sawyer, The Kent Chronicles as well as actors Lee Meriwether, Mike Connors, James Arness and more. It was a blast talking to Kiki for this episode and we certainly hope you will like it too. So take a listen to the Rarified Heir podcast with Kiki Ebsen, coming up right now. Everyone has a story.

I had so much fun talking to David and Tom. They were absolutely adorable. They were a couple teenagers from the midwest that saw the film "Thats Entertainment" and they became fans of all things classic Hollywood. They decided to write the classic stars for interviews. Much to their delight they heard back from Fred Astaire and an interview was set up. They were 18 years old and fresh out of high school. They had to get the money together to fly to L.A.. They got the tickets and decked out in their new suits they were off. They were too young to drive in CA. so they found a cheapo motel that was close enough to Freds to walk and boom, there they were with their idol Fred. Fred was kind, charming, funny and they loved him. Fred opened the doors for talking to other greats"Fred talked to you, I guess its OK." They have wonderful stories on Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen and his then wife Yvette Mimieux, Gregory Peck (swoon), Tippi Hedren, Tan Man George Hamilton, Charlton Heston, Angie Dickinson, Lucille Ball, Andre Previn, Jimmy Cagney, Mickey Rooney, a Hilarios story about lunch with Virginia Mayo and a three hour talk with RJ, alias Robert Wagner. He dished and dished. I'm sure they didn't tell me everything. There are so many interviews we did not get to, like fifty. The book is a joy to read. You will love David and Tom. They also did the last interviews of Stanley Donen, Andre Previn and Mike Connors. I highly recommend the book. It's a must read for classic movie fans. Thanks so much for Dave and Tom for coming on the show. PS Tom, you don't look like Art Carney..Mostly thanks to the listeners. I have more great guests coming up.Love,GracexoxoHeres a link to Tom and Daves book.https://www.amazon.com/Hollywood-Heyday-Candid-Interviews-Legends/dp/1476668051/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=David+Fantle&qid=1552303613&s=books&sr=1-1-catcorrPlease like and follow my facebook pagewww.facebook.com/truestoriesoftinseltownwww.truestoriesoftinseltown.comwww.truestoriesoftinseltown.podbean.comwww.pinterest/truestoriesoftinseltownyou can hear podcast on iTunes, Spotify, pod bean, I heart radio, youtube and lots of other places even I don't know about.

Thanks for tuning into the Healthy Wealthy and Smart Podcast! I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike Connors about advocacy in physical therapy. Mike is a private practice physical therapy owner, an outside consultant for a professional ballet company in Fort Worth and an adjunct professor in orthopaedic physical therapy for the DPT program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. In addition, Mike is the current President of the Texas Physical Therapy Association advocating regularly for the PT profession in Austin and DC on regulatory and payment policy issues impacting PT. In this episode, we discuss: -Levels of advocacy and ways to demonstrate the efficacy of physical therapy -Mike’s pitch for APTA membership -Mike’s initial wellness consultation and his focus on preventative care -Advice to new professionals on empathy and preventing burnout -And so much more! Mike stresses the need for PT advocacy which can take many forms including calling an insurance company, talking to medical colleagues, and increasing awareness in the community in addition to legislative change. He states, “What did you do today that was in the patient’s best interest that the patient couldn’t do for themselves or didn't have the knowledge or the resources to do for themselves? We treat patients. We manage their complex presentations, but we do a lot more than I think we give ourselves credit for. That's a big part of why it is we don't have the widespread knowledge base about what we do because we don’t talk enough about what we do. PT has become the new fight club and the #1 rule of PT is not to talk about PT.” Mike believes there are untapped candidates for physical therapy services due to public unawareness of the healthcare benefits. “Ironically, in private practice, we are sitting here all competing against one another for 20% of the pie and what we’re not seeing is another 75+% that’s out there that’s doing everything but physical therapy.” Mike encourages entrepreneurship within physical therapy and recommends to continually strive for excellence. Mike advices, “Entrepreneurs are going to continually learn and evolve over time. Count your successes as much as you count your failures as long as you learn from them and you evolve then it was a worthwhile endeavor.” For more about Mike: Mike has a BS in Biology from Stockton College with a minor in Psychology (2001). His entry level degree in physical therapy is a Master of Physical Therapy from University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ-Rutgers University (2003). Mike has a post professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University (2008). He became a board certified specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the American Board of PT Specialties in 2011. Mike is currently finishing (ABD) the remaining requirements for completion of a PhD degree in Physical Therapy with an emphasis in applied biomechanics from Texas Woman's University (Anticipated completion 2016). Mike began working with GTC in October 2004. He most recently rejoined the GTC family in June 2015 as the Director of the Fort Worth Clinic. Mike's focus and specialization in orthopaedic physical therapy makes him an efficient clinician in managing patients with orthopedic dysfunction. He utilizes a multimodal approach to meet the needs of his patients and clients that include spinal manipulation, dry needling, KT taping, and various other interventions. Mike is certified in functional dry needling from Kinetacore. He has experience working with patients of all ages, from kids to adults and from the weekend warrior to the elite athlete. He is an outside consultant for a professional ballet company in Fort Worth and is an adjunct professor in orthopaedic physical therapy for the DPT program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. In addition, Mike is the current President of the Texas Physical Therapy Association advocating regularly for the PT profession in Austin and DC on regulatory and payment policy issues impacting PT. Mike is happily married to his wife Shannon. He enjoys spending time with his family, that includes two beautiful daughters. Mike enjoys staying active, running, traveling, exercising, biking, golfing and staying active in his faith community. Personal statement: It's ALWAYS all about the patient. We exist as PTs to help patients move better with less pain. It's my pleasure to help patients achieve this goal on a day to day basis.
