Dr. Alan Holmes discusses male hormones and the effects of aging on testosterone levels. He explains that as men age, testosterone levels naturally decline, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, decreased libido, and reduced motivation. However, he emphasizes that low testosterone is not just a normal part of aging and can be treated. Dr. Holmes discusses the different methods of testosterone supplementation, including pellets, injections, and creams, and highlights the importance of individualized treatment based on symptoms and lab results. He also addresses common concerns and misconceptions about testosterone, such as its impact on prostate health and the risk of side effects.TakeawaysLow testosterone is not just a normal part of aging and can be treated.Testosterone supplementation can help improve symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, decreased libido, and reduced motivation.Treatment options include pellets, injections, and creams, and the choice depends on individual needs and preferences.Monitoring testosterone levels and adjusting treatment based on symptoms and lab results is important for optimal results.Concerns about testosterone's impact on prostate health and the risk of side effects are often based on outdated or incomplete information.Chapters00:00 Introduction and Dr. Alan Holmes' Background02:10 Understanding Male Hormones and Aging06:19 Different Terms for Male Hormone Changes09:02 Recognizing Symptoms of Low Testosterone14:44 Debunking Myths: Testosterone and Prostate Health22:58 Treatment Options for Erectile Dysfunction36:26 Natural Ways to Increase Testosterone41:17 Conclusion and Contact Information
Have you considered the impact a concussion could have on your hormones? It's easy to overlook, but concussions can lead to significant hormonal changes in men. If you're experiencing unexplained symptoms after a head injury, there's a chance they could be hormone-related. While common concussion symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or cognitive issues are well known, hormonal imbalances may not be on your radar. Understanding these connections could be key to finding the right treatment and support. On today's episode, we explore the link between concussions and hormone changes in men. Although research is limited, we share what we know, including studies on growth hormone and testosterone deficiencies after a head injury. The effects of these imbalances can be wide-ranging, impacting everything from energy levels to mood, and even muscle tone. In this episode, you'll learn:
In this special Asprey Archive episode you'll learn that while yes, testosterone fuels energy and performance, it's not the be-all and end-all solution for men's health woes. A systems biology approach considers many other aspects and provides a broader perspective about what's going on with you. This conversation features board-certified urologist Tracy Gapin, M.D. He joined us in 2022 for this episode to discuss new ways for men to improve their health and performance. He uses epigenetic coaching, hormones, peptide therapy, biometric monitoring, and unique nutrition and lifestyle interventions. In his book, “Male 2.0™: Cracking the Code to Limitless Health and Vitality,” he says medical school, residency training and even a two-decade career in urology and surgery specialties didn't teach him how to get to root causes of men's issues and solve them. He had a health crash of his own at 42. Since neither he nor his doctor had good answers, he went on a quest of discovery and change. He founded the Gapin Institute for High Performance Medicine and created the proprietary N1 Performance Health Program to go beyond conventional options. This conversation goes even further into what creates epigenetic signals that affect the function and expression of your genes. You'll learn, too, that your mindset, stress and environment—and how you do or don't control those things—have everything to do with your energy and focus. Happy Movember!Starting off back in 2003, Movember has now become an annual movement in November to raise awareness on men's health and issues, addressing misconceptions and ways to improve this aspect of health. In line with this, we launch this episode to dive into the reality of male hormones - a huge factor on how we should navigate in Men's Health. In this episode, the Co-Founder of the DNA Company, Kashif Khan, discusses male hormones in the context of the hormone cascade. He explains how, biologically males and females actually produce the exact same thing but the priorities, problems and opportunities for these are different. These are seen when looking into a woman's 28-day cycle compared to a man's daily cycle; looking into the difference of being androgenized or estrogenized; fitness and health; and understanding how hormone disruptions are common yet preventable in this day and age.00:00 Introduction01:58 The Hormone Cascade05:54 Misconceptions on Male Hormones08:14 Binding Your Testosterone10:12 Estrogenized Males and Fitness14:40 DHT and the Death of Hair Follicles18:17 Hormone Disruptions23:35 Hormones and Your Reality & Environment26:27 How to Counter Hormone Disruption▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Keep yourself up to date on The DNA Talks Podcast! “The single biggest factor when it comes to low testosterone is the toxins in our environment that are crushing our health.” - Dr. Tracy GapinFrom toxins in our food to toxins in our water and personal care products, studies have shown that these physiological stressors are crushing thyroid function and healthy testosterone production and function. Add to that the chronic stress of our modern lives, and it's no wonder many men suffer from hormone imbalances.Today, I'm joined by Dr. Tracy Gapin to explore the topic of men's health in more detail. Dr. Gapin is a board-certified urologist, world-renowned men's health and performance expert, and the founder of the Gapin Institute for High Performance Health. A thought leader, professional speaker, and the author of the best-selling books Male 2.0 and Codes of Longevity, Dr. Gapin has over 20 years of experience focused on men's health, human performance, and longevity. In this conversation, Dr. Gapin and I discuss the reasons behind low male hormones, the role of stress in hormone imbalances, why it's critical to address multiple systems to correct the cycle, Dr. Gapin's approach to hormone testing, natural ways to increase testosterone, the benefits of testosterone therapy, and more. To a great degree, we are who we are because of the hormones produced in our body. From our sexuality to our physical and mental development to the state of our health—we are all dependent on our hormones working properly. When there is an overproduction or under-production of any of our hormones, we can experience a host of serious health disorders. The problem is few of us ever connect these issues with our hormones. And while men may be familiar with testosterone, there are other hormones that are just as important. To address this lack of information, bestselling author Dr. Pamela Wartian Smith has written Maximize Your Male Hormones, a clear guide for men to understand, identify, and treat the many sources of these ailments and problems including: fatigue; depression; erectile dysfunction; headaches; anger; cancer; anxiety; weight loss/gain; heart disease; male infertility; stress; mood swings; diabetes; sleep disorders; and so much more.FatigueDepressionSexual DysfunctionHeadachesAngerCancerNervousnessWeight loss/gainHeart diseaseMale menopauseStressMood swingsDiabetesSleep apneaThese are all serious disorders that, if left untreated, can be life-threatening. In this episode of Wombspace, I'm sharing the differences in the menstrual cycle, which mimics the moon, and the male hormonal cycle, which mimics the sun, and what can happen when we feel pressured by the patriarchy and capitalism to function in a linear world, despite our cyclical nature. Here's what we'll explore in this episode: The values of a global matriarchy that thrived for 300,000 years before patriarchy took over 3,000 years ago How the menstrual cycle functions vs how the male hormonal cycle functions, and how these cycles relate to the moon and the sun What happens when people with wombs feel pressured to function in a linear world, despite our cyclical nature Why you may be experiencing cycle symptoms like period pain, fatigue, and mood swings Why you might feel different physically and emotionally from week to week What it can look like when you live cyclically with your menstrual cycle REWILDING YOUR WOMB: Starting the week of October 24 / Sign up for the waitlist here - https://www.flowwithyourflow.com/rewilding/waitlist Let's Connect: follow me on instagram & tiktok @flowwithyourflow
IN THIS EPISODE OF THE HUMAN UPGRADE™... you'll learn that while yes, testosterone fuels energy and performance, it's not the be-all and end-all solution for men's health woes. A systems biology approach considers many other aspects and provides a broader perspective about what's going on with you. This conversation features board-certified urologist Tracy Gapin, M.D., one of the 8th Annual Biohacking Conference keynote speakers. He'll be on the main stage in Beverly Hills in September. He joins this special preview episode to discuss new ways for men to improve their health and performance. He uses epigenetic coaching, hormones, peptide therapy, biometric monitoring, and unique nutrition and lifestyle interventions.“Testosterone levels over the last 30 years are down by about 30 percent,” Dr. Tracy says. “Free testosterone, which is the bioavailable, active hormone testosterone is actually down over 45%. This is really important. We're not just talking about sex and muscle, we're talking about a man's life and cardiovascular health and cognitive function. The culprit can be debated, but without question, one of the biggest ones in my mind is endocrine disruptors. Toxins, chemicals in our environment that are clearly crushing men's health, clearly crushing testosterone. It's the food we eat, it's the water we drink, it's the personal care products. It's ubiquitous, it's almost everywhere and it's getting worse.”In his book, “Male 2.0™: Cracking the Code to Limitless Health and Vitality,” he says medical school, residency training and even a two-decade career in urology and surgery specialties didn't teach him how to get to root causes of men's issues and solve them. He had a health crash of his own at 42. Since neither he nor his doctor had good answers, he went on a quest of discovery and change. CANDACE BURCH - MALE Hormones My guest today is hormone educator Candace Burch. I have released a complimentary show about women's hormones in my previous episode, but today's show is all about the boys. We talk in this podcast about MENS hormone health. There are so many natural ways to support hormone health from supplementation, lifestyle, and more aggressive ways as we get older. Candace suggests strategic and safe ways to approach diving into navigating your symphony of hormones. Often times we think we can just throw the magic T, TESTOSTERONE at everything male hormone related but it's always about the whole picture. Did you know men go through something called Andropause? Summary:In many aspects of life women and men have a basic right to be equal! However, the debate still continues as to whether men and women should be performing physical training and exercise the same. Both genders certainly can train the same if they wish, but is that the most effective thing to be doing in terms of overall health and in trying to optimise results? Dr Jade Teta rejoins us for a special show on our 50th episode to answer some important questions on gender-specific hormonal physiology and how this can be tied into exercise and fitness training. Guest biography:Dr Jade Teta is a highly experienced personal trainer of over 25 years. He has produced numerous video-based workouts that are used by hundreds of thousands all over the world. Jade has a degree in biochemistry and is a qualified physician. His speciality is in a subset of medicine called naturopathic medicine. If you compare him to your family doctor, but instead of using drugs and surgery first, Jade chooses to use drugs as a second choice over other natural remedies and behaviours. He is also an expert in nutrition, exercise and supplementation. Jade describes his speciality as ‘integrative endocrinology.’ This is the study of hormones & metabolism. The integrative part just means that he combines and balances both conventional and alternative methods. Most of Jade’s career has been focused on helping the most difficult metabolic cases to be able to successfully lose weight. You can learn more about jade by visiting his very informative website. https://youtu.be/UrtgFRPeURk In this segment of Functional Medicine Back to Basics Dr. Rutherford discusses the male hormones. Note: The following is the output of a transcription from the video above. Although the transcription is largely accurate, in some cases it is incomplete or inaccurate due to inaudible passages or transcription errors. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation with Dr. Rutherford please visit http://PowerHealthConsult.com Hi, Dr. Martin Rutherford here again in our continuing series on back to basics, functional medicine back to basics, and we're gonna be talking about male hormone imbalances this week and again those of you who have been maybe not watching this is close To the end of a three or four month, series on classic functional medicine and how you address certain conditions, certain imbalances, certain inconsistent, consistencies relative to a variety of different problems that consistently come into functional medicine practices. So so for the again for those of you have been watching, I'm there's. An order to this. There's, a hierarchy, a pretty general hierarchy as to how you attack things and we've. Already gone over a lot of stuff, we've, gone over basics of care relative to blood sugar and essential fatty acids and oxygen. We've gone over everything from the exam to the history, to the large intestines intestinal permeability, chemical sensitivities and in a relative order. I'm making that point that, again to those who may just be bringing this up. For the first time, because we're close to the end of this series - and we're now, just getting to the male hormone imbalances and a subsequent presentation will be on female hormone imbalances. We're. Doing we're doing the else first, not because we're sexist, but because, frankly, it's. A lot easier to me, health males, don't have as much going on, thank God as the females have. I say that as a male and I'm, treating females and and and and the women having to deal with a lot more complexity. So so we're going to be talking about mainly we're gonna be talking about loti. We're gonna be talking about low tea, low testosterone. I mean I listen to a radio program every morning to get the news and the weather and the traffic and all that type of stuff, and there's, no shortage of ways to get up your testosterone to raise that old testosterone. There's medications there's. There's herbs there's. Botanicals. I'm, going to present you with a little different look on that there's, a reason that that your testosterone is low. We're, going to talk about those things there's, a reason that it's being presented last and and actually the way we look at problems is not that their testosterone is low, but the vast majority of time We're, looking at it that their estrogens are high, that the male estrogens are high. This is usually the problem, basically male problems, with the exception of prostate problems, which is too much testosterone because it's, not getting cleared out of your system. Our are low, testosterone problems secondary to estrogen being high, and that's. Has a term it's called andropause, and when I mentioned that to my male patients, they kind of look at me like, like they've, never heard the term before so it's, the equivalent of menopause when women Go into menopause and they lose their. They lose their ability to make estrogen from their ovaries. It's different with men. It's, not that men are losing their ability to make testosterone it's that they're, creating too much estrogen. So here's this so here's. The picture of somebody who is creating too much estrogen increased body fat. You're, you're, you're, getting you're. Getting the increased body fat around your waist and, and you can't, lose the weight you you know it could be. It could be from fluid retention, but increased body fat can be manopause if men start getting. What is euphemistically caused his man boobs,

Vidcast: https://youtu.be/hMEHBR2pb08 Men with greater androgen signaling and abundant circulating androgens have more severe CoVid infections with accompanying lung, heart, and kidney damage. A collaborative Yale, Harvard, and UC-San Francisco study of 454 hospitalized CoVid positive British patients. The free androgen level was significantly associated with viral susceptibility and disease severity in men but not in women. Androgens are known to increase expression of the ACE2 molecule in human tissues, and it is this protein that binds CoVid19 permitting it to enter and infect cells. The researchers suggest that already FDA approved androgen inhibiting drugs such as dutasteride and finasteride may have potential for inhibiting CoVid19 infections. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.12.091082v2.full.pdf #covid #pandemic #ace2 #androgens #5alphareductaseinhibitor #dutasteride #finasteride

Background InformationI've always had a bit of an eclectic lifestyle. I am just as likely to be be eyeballs deep reading about business, astronomy, workout programming, or studies on nutrition. I have always been fairly natural when it comes to athletics. I got into Martial Arts at a young age since I was always the smallest kid in my class and kept getting beaten up. From there I ended up competing in Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and eventually Mixed Martial Arts. I earned my Kru in Muay Thai, Black Belt in Taekwondo, and Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Once I stopped competing in combat sports I sold the gymnastics gym I owned and found CrossFit, opened a gym/box and grew it. Through CrossFit I discovered Strongman and Powerlifting. After realizing I was more naturally gifted in those pursuits, I sold the gym and focused on training and working a corporate gig. I was very successful in my sales career, but in the end decided corporate life was not for me. I moved to North Carolina to train with Travis Mash at his gym. He was a world record holding powerlifter in the early 2000's and currently boasts sending 20+ athletes to world's level competitions and teams in various strength sports. After 2016 World's I moved back to Indiana worked in the corporate world again until I found online and in person training were avenues I could earn a decent living doing, not have to cover up my tattoos, and help people improve their lives. Always seeking multiple streams of income I started an apparel company and used my sales/marketing background to get it rolling. Currently I am a trainer at Fearless Fitness in Lafayette, IN, I do online coaching through Instagram and TheJackedGinger.com, and sell fun lifting themed apparel (Jacked Merch) from Jacked-Merch.myshopify.com (Marketed through Instagram of course)IG Handles@Strongman_Dan@Jacked_MerchSupport the show (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl8NPB2H4Mf/?igshid=1m9w8d28oarlu&utm_source=fb_www_attr)

Speaker 1: 00:01 The project lit lit. Hey everybody. Welcome to this episode of the project and in today's episode I'm sitting down with Jonathan Mills, creator of Rehab Revolution. The guy like dropped some serious knowledge bombs in this episode. I mean if you are an aspiring trainer and an aspiring online coach or want to learn more about the fitness industry, listen to what this guy has to say. He also points out some of the pitfalls that we might fall into. Well, looking into I'd say educational certifications. He completely changed my mind when I looked at accrediting bodies. We get into a little bit of a debate midway through it and again, it's such a good episode for everybody. New and old trainers. Give it a listen and again if you have any questions, dms or shoot us an email. All this and more today's episode. Hey guys,e course is all about. I want to see what legitimacy it has to it. And they're like, no, it's just signed by our head trainer. I'm like, who is your head trainer? What was he accredited by? What's his background? Just as a coach for 15 years?Speaker 2: 05:25 Yes. Some of the best coaches and some of the best trainers out there have zero certificates. You know what I mean? It's Kinda like with teachers and professionals in different industries. For instance, take Richard Bronson, the guy dropped out of high school or dropped out of college and he's the richest man in the world. But at the same time, especially in this part of the world, that accreditation or that legitimacy needs to be recognized so you don't have the posers coming out so to speak. So what do you think about that side of the argument? Definitely. I saidSpeaker 3: 05:56 which whatever industry you're in Roy, he's going to get those. So called poses. I got like Tommy and and create the writing stuff, a marketer as the best thing ever. It just comes down to the individual to, I say it's their responsibility to kind of check before they jump in and stop kind of paying money and spending more investing their time in. So learning just because it looks great and the marketing's amazing. It needs to look into that further. Look at the credibility of the people running it. All the people teaching it. Do I have a background in what they're teaching as I taught before? Do they have like you that credibility back them up and some do, some don't. But again it comes down to the same with some of the accredited courses I've seen run are the content, is industry standard? Does it mean that standard is like extremely high quality?Speaker 3: 06:45 It just means it&Support the show (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl8NPB2H4Mf/?igshid=1m9w8d28oarlu&utm_source=fb_www_attr)
1:46 – Meg talks about how the training game is different in the States and tells Mahdi and Haya about her new client base, those in assisted living facilities who are 70-90 years old.5:20 – Mahdi tells about his grandmother and how her health deteriorated after she had a bad fall.8:18 – Social health also has an impact on physical health.10:00 – Meg says that the initial goals of most of her clients are very conservative and they are shocked by how much more they can do than they thought.11:57 – A comparison between “Goldeners” in Kuwait and the States.14:48 – Meg talks about a client of hers who learned how to swim at age 61 and a family member who is doing triathlons in all 50 US states after the age of 50.16:41 – Meg and Mahdi talk about the tendency of trainers in Kuwait to just give every client the same blanket program.18:08 – In other countries, best practice is for trainers to personalize programs for each client and adapt their programming based on their clients' current situation.20:57 – Haya and Mahdi talk about ways to gauge your progress and work your way up by starting with the basics.24:40 – Meg and Haya talk about their love/hate relationships with pull-ups, dips, ring rows, and negatives.26:53 – Mahdi brings up the point that many guys try to do certain exercises or weights just because they saw some guy on Instagram do it.29:14 – Getting the mechanics of workouts down takes the longest and it is important to have the right mindset in order to make the biggest gains as well as know when you need to slow down or rest.32:48 – Haya's coach often has her load up her goal weight for a movement and just hold it to get a feel for it before she starts working up to it. They also talk about the importance of you and your coach knowing where you are in your hormone cycle.35:17 – Haya talks about the stigma surrounding being a female weight lifter. Time Stamps:1:47 – Luwlwa, the Functional Nutritionist, joins Liam and Mahdi again today to discuss men's hormones. Mahdi asks about how pheromones are related to hormones and Luwlwa shares about an experiment her class did at university.3:25 – Mahdi reveals his “secret” that he uses women's Secret vanilla bean deodorant because it keeps him from sweating. Liam briefly considers revoking his man card, but they move on when Luwlwa says that some men get botox or detox their arm pits to reduce sweating.5:13 – Mahdi has noticed in the Middle East that men are softer and have more of a female build than elsewhere in the world and he thinks it is as a result of lower testosterone. Luwlwa confirms Mahdi's suspicions and says that men are developing more female facial features as well.7:06 – Kuwait was recently listed as the #2 most toxic country in the world, and while this is a big factor in hormone production, Luwlwa says that it also has to do with the fact that Kuwait is not as health-conscious in general. 10:22 – In addition to this constant exposure to toxicity, these health choices are causing men in Kuwait to convert testosterone to estrogen which causes them to store fat in areas where women would.13:21 – Mahdi asks the question that many men have probably wondered if they have ever dabbled in taking steroids: does taking steroids really cause your gonads to shrink up? Luwlwa confirms that taking testosterone replacement drugs will cause your body to stop producing testosterone, and it could have a lasting effect even after men aren't taking steroids anymore.15:31 – Toxins such as BPA can be endocrine disruptors and should be avoided. BPA is used to make plastic remain rigid, and it is released when the plastic is heated up; specifically, when you are microwaving your leftovers. When ingested, BPA acts as estrogen and can be harmful to the body. Another unexpected source of BPA is receipts.18:08 – Mahdi and Luwlwa provide a summary of cortisol, its purposes, and its impacts on the body over a long period of time. Liam summarizes constant cortisol production to being in “sport mode” in your car all the time.23:13 – Luwlwa asks Mahdi and Liam about their sleeping patterns and says that if you have healthy cortisol levels, you should not have to wake up at all during the night, even to go to the bathroom. If you do not have deep sleep like this, you are probably sleep deprived.25:58 – Mahdi tells of his experience tracking his sleep with a smart band.27:00 – Luwlwa talks about REM (rapid eye movement) sleep and the importance of several REM cycles every night for the proper production of testosterone. One of the best ways to improve your sleep environment is to reduce your exposure to blue light for 1-2 hours before going to bed, either by not looking at screens or by using a blue light reducing app on your phone or computer.28:27 – In response to Mahdi's question about how working out at night affects sleep, Luwlwa says that working out increases your cortisol levels which is not conducive to restful sleep. She recommends taking thianine after a workout at night to combat high cortisol levels or using a meditation app like Headspace. 30:05 – In addition to the Headspace app, Luwlwa recommends diaphragmatic breathing and deep stretching to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and optimize sleep.31:45 – Although a lot of people think that taking a hot bath or shower would be relaxing in preparation for going to sleep, the opposite is actually true. While a hot shower causes the heart rate to rise, a cold shower slows the heart rate and activates the parasympathetic nervous system instead.34:4Support the show (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl8NPB2H4Mf/?igshid=1m9w8d28oarlu&utm_source=fb_www_attr)
For Beyond 50's "Natural Healing" talks, listen to an interview with Sally Holloway. She's back on the program to educate about eating sprouts for bio-identical hormones. Sprouted foods are hormone-rich greens that are very simple to grown on your windowsill. According to Holloway, we evolved on plant hormones and have receptors in our cells seeking them. The amazing things is that plants themselves don't contain any plant hormones. They contain compounds that are converted to hormones by our gut bacteria. We have our very own hormonal pharmacy inside us. All we have to do is feed it the right food. For men going through male menopause, called Andropause, find out about specific sprouts that can help with common symptoms like low s*x drive, lack of energy, irritability with mood swings, increased body fat, loss of strength, ED, and depression. There is a documented epidemic of low testosterone (T) in males, even young males. Insufficient T is not only linked to erectile dysfunction, it is being reproducibly linked to dying prematurely (losing a few years off your life) from diverse causes, referred to as all-cause mortality. Sufficient levels of T, often higher than the lower end of most lab reference ranges, prevents a long list of serious illnesses such as cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and Type-2 Diabetes. One of the first symptoms of insufficient T is low energy. This is because testosterone protects mitochondria, the energy production factory in most cells. Insufficient or low T causes mitochondria to become dysfunctional and you to become fatigued, and not the spry confident guy you used to be. Often, as males’ age, they may become grumpy, loose their zest for life, and be more prone to prostate cancer. Much of this is reversible or preventable by proper testing and treatment with bioidentical hormones. But hormones do not exist in a vacuum. A well-rounded hormone doctor will test three kinds of T, at least two kinds of estrogen, adrenal and thyroid hormone health, sometimes other hormones like growth hormone and oxytocin, and sometimes other blood factors, like sex hormone binding globulin. To have proper medical evaluation of your T, the smart doc, to get the best results for you, needs the bigger picture of everything related to your testosterone. Why is there such an epidemic of low T? Listen to this show and learn. And discover exact steps you can take to protect the males you love. You can read more about the facts and controversies of T, answered in an easy read in SEXY BRAIN, Dr. Berkson’s latest book.
