He believes that many diseases and disorders that we accept as “inevitable” in modern society are unnecessary complications of poor sleeping habits, living in a toxic environment, eating foods we were not designed to digest, and allowing stress to overwhelm us. His passion is to help his patients and clients achieve the highest quality of life possible, and realize their health, performance, and longevity goals. Dr. Parsley spends as much of his spare time as possible with his wife Cindy, and his three beautiful children (Hayden, Cole, and Harper). I am Dr Greg Dennis, a board certified Family Practice Physician and also certified in Age Management Medicine. This first episode is an introduction to who I am and why I am doing a podcast on health and wellness. My goal is to give you the latest and most accurate information to optimize your health.
Today's episode of Redefining Medicine features Louis Cady, MD and Ken Sharlin, MD. Dr. Louis Cady straddles the world between science and art. Trained first as a classical pianist, he went on to obtain two degrees, with honors, from the Conservatory of Music of the University of Missouri at Kansas City, before obtaining his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He then trained in psychiatry at the world-famous Mayo Clinic, beginning his practice of child, adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatry in Evansville, Indiana in 1993. In addition to his conventional medical training in medicine and psychiatry, Dr. Cady has subsequently received additional training in Age Management Medicine from the Cenegenics Medical Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, adding that modality into his practice. Dr. Cady’s main clinical focus is not on just treating the psychiatrically ill back to health, but is increasingly devoted to helping children and adults achieve total wellness and optimum levels of performance through the integration of mind and body for peak performance, using all of the possible healing options in the scientific and medical literature. In the spring of 2005, and following these principles, Dr. Cady founded the Cady Wellness Institute, which opened in its new facilities in Evansville on July 1, 2005. Dr. Ken Sharlin’s rapid rise as a writer and thought leader in the circle of holistic health, especially in areas pertaining to the brain and neurological illness, has its roots in his Princeton, New Jersey, childhood. His father, a pediatrician with a passion for the craft of magic and illusion. His mother was a special needs teacher who exposed him to the arts. Dr. Sharlin was influenced by both sides. He was a writer from a young age whose education was cultivated by a combination of science and literature. He began his career as a neurologist whose training through prestigious research-oriented medical centers took him down a traditional path. Dr. Sharlin worked as a neurologist in private practice, in large hospital-affiliated practices, emergency rooms, intensive care units, and inpatient wards. His diverse experience has allowed him to sharpen his skills in the management of complex neurological conditions, from multiple sclerosis, to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, migraine, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and fibromyalgia, among others. In whatever direction his interests took him, he has always maintained one hand in clinical research as principle investigator in large, multi-center trials to help bring new treatments to market and broaden our understanding of medicines already approved. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals (Ethnicity & Disease, 1993 vol 3(4): 337-43; Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease, 1999;8:271). He has been a guest speaker on many occasions over the years, and is often asked to share his knowledge and expertise with his peers and the public.

Dr. Kodama is board-certified in both Obstetrics/Gynecology and Obesity Medicine. She specializes in the use of bioidentical hormones for both men and women and earned her certification in Age Management Medicine through Cenegenics. For twelve years, Dr. Kodama has provided care in her community in the Twin Cities. For decades we were taught there was no stopping cognitive and physical decline, now we know it’s possible to maintain a youthful brain and body into old age using accessible means. Given the right conditions, you can continue to thrive well into old age. In fact, the personality trait of “openness to experience” was a major predictor of good physical activity at age 75, because of a willingness to participate in athletics and try new things. That means, no matter what age you are now, keeping an open and adventurous mind and trying new types of movement in your own routine can help you stay active and healthy as you get older. In this minisode, Dr. Hyman speaks with brain health experts Dr. Marwan Sabbagh and Dr. Daniel Amen, and age management medicine expert Dr. George Shapiro about the tools available to each of us to promote optimal health at any age.Dr. Sabbagh is a board-certified neurologist and considered one of the leading experts in Alzheimer’s and dementia. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and BMC Neurology and is now editor in chief of Neurology and Therapy and is the author of The Alzheimer’s Answer: Reduce Your Risk and Keep Your Brain Healthy, and The Alzheimer’s Prevention Cookbook: 100 Recipes to Boost Brain Health. Dr. Sabbagh’s latest book, Fighting for My Life: How to Thrive in the Shadow of Alzheimer’s, was released last year. The Washington Post called Dr. Daniel Amen the most popular psychiatrist in America and Discover Magazine listed his brain imaging research as the top neuroscience story for 2015. He is a double board-certified psychiatrist and ten-time New York Times bestselling author, with such blockbuster books as Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, Healing ADD, Memory Rescue, Change Your Brain, Change Your Grades, and The Daniel Plan, co-authored by Pastor Rick Warren and Dr. Mark Hyman. In March 2020, his book The End of Mental Illness will be published.Dr. George Shapiro has been a practicing physician for 30 years, specializing in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and age management medicine. Modern living is laying siege to our endocrine, biological and spiritual systems. In order to claw back our health, we have to prioritize optimization at every level of society, from clinicians to consumers. How do we combat sickness, and expand our lifespans in a meaningful and impactful way? Why is the medical community’s panic over estrogen lab values such a huge fallacy? In our optimization regimens, how can we also make room for spiritual fitness and why it is so necessary? On this episode, we’re joined by top age management physician, Dr. Mike Carragher. He shares on challenging the sick care model, and achieving fitness in every area of our lives. Three Takeaways When we’re born, we have self-regulating cells. As time goes on, those cells are compromised through disease and poor nutritional choices. Peptides address these issues. Health shouldn’t just be about living longer. It’s about making sure those lives and bodies are of good quality, and that we can move through the world and interact with it in a meaningful way. Everything that we have that’s physical and material is a disintegrating frequency except the love in our hearts and the experiences we’ve had. At the start of the show, Dr. Mike Carragher shared how he got started in medicine, and why he was so drawn to age management and health optimization. We also discussed how endocrine disrupting chemicals are causing the feminization of everything. We also discussed; The shocking lack of nutritional training in medical schools The fallacy of lab values Spiritual practices and routines to help us tap into what matters Guest Bio- Dr. Carragher is Board Certified in Family Medicine, with advanced certification in Age Management Medicine. He received his training at New York University, Rutgers University, Yale University and Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Carragher has extensive experience in optimizing health at every stage of an individual’s lifespan. The Carragher Method is a proprietary, evidence-based methodology of hormone optimization, developed to help patients attain a greater quality of life and to feel as youthful as possible. It might sound too good to be true, but there are tools waiting within all of us, that can improve everything from depression to addiction, anxiety, discontent, or numerous other unbeneficial feelings or states of dis-ease. We just have to open ourselves up to them and be willing to dig deeper. Tapping into creativity and passion is one key component; another is slowing down and taking the time to meditate, reflect, and practice self-care. So many of these tools are at our disposal, any time of day, any day of the week—but we have to realize their potential and prioritize their practice before the magic can happen. This week on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m joined by Dr. Andrea Pennington to talk about how we can begin this process, and so much more. Even at an early age, I can remember trying to stay up late on the weekends to watch scary movies and then get up early to get on my bike and ride to a nearby field to catch grasshoppers. My cousin and I had an evening pact that we would make - "first one to wake up, wakes up the other". We wanted to live as much of life as we could in 24 hours. Wanting to fit as much in in 24 hours is still a part of how I'm wired. Earlier in my career, I would find myself working until late at night and setting my alarm to get up early and put the final polish on a presentation or email. I would be wired from working on the computer late and self medicate with a sleep aid and a night cap to help knock me out, only to feel groggy and stressed out from the moment I woke up six hours later. Fast forward to a new phase in life, balance a career, family and my new lifestyle of endurance sports and now I'm trying to divide the 24 hours even further. Set the alarm for 4:30 to get to the pool when it opens at 5am. Out of the pool by 6:16 to drop off my daughters at school at 7. Shower and get to the office by 8 and get home by 6. After dinner, help out with homework. Get in a late run from 8-9. Read bedtime books with the girls until 10. Have a night cap, Ambien or both - knocked out by 11. 5.5 hours later, the alarm goes off at 4:30 am and the cycle continued. I first heard Kirk Parsley on the Unbeatable Mind podcast with Mark Divine. As you will hear in the interview, I was scared straight by some of the stats that he shared then and will share here in our interview. Interview Introduction: In today's fast-paced, “hustle and grind” world, sleep is usually the first thing that gets cut from our schedules. But science is showing the impacts from chronic sleep deprivation are more far-reaching than we realize. Not only will a lack of quality rest affect your mood, feelings, and overall wellness, it can also degrade your memory, decision-making, life expectancy, and so much more. If we truly want to make drastic improvements to our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, we must remedy our sleep habits and lifestyle... But who do we turn to for advice? Doc Parsley has been a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine since 2006 and has served as Naval Special Warfare’s expert on Sleep Medicine. He is certified in hormonal modulation (Age-Management Medicine), and continues to consult for multiple corporations, and professional athletes/teams. Kirk is the creator of the Doc Parsley Sleep Remedy sleep supplement, lectures worldwide on sleep, wellness, and hormonal optimization, and is the author of the internationally best-selling book, Sleep to Win. Video of the Week: 4 freaking Leadville100 minutes "What's New in the 303": Boulder’s Ryan Smith won the Leadville 100 trail run on Saturday night thanks to consistent second-half pacing that left his rivals unable to respond. It was the biggest win of his ultrarunning career. The Boulder-based runner, who came to the United States from the United Kingdom and works full-time a software engineer, was greeted at the finish by his wife and almost 2-year-old daughter. He turned 40 years old this year. His win — in 16 hours, 33 minutes, 25 seconds — was far from expected. Smith was not among the pre-race favorites to win, and he wasn’t feeling well leading into the Twin Lakes aid station near the 40-mile mark. But at the turnaround at Winfield, he held his pace steady, averaging around 10 minutes per mile for the rest of the race. Read more. The Colorado Classic proved if you build it, they will come. The goal to age well and stay on top of my health led me to my guest on this episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, Dr. George Shapiro. Dr. Shapiro has been a practicing physician for 30 years, specializing in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and age management medicine. Dr. Shapiro was the recipient of the 10th Annual Alan P. Mintz, MD Award, for Clinical Excellence in Age Management Medicine, as he has become known nationwide as an expert in age management medicine, and leads one of the most prominent age management practices in the country as president of Cenegenics New York City. He has long been known as one of New York’s foremost cardiologists, specializing in regenerative medicine and improving longevity, including the genomics of cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure. On today’s episode, Dr. Shapiro and I discuss the world of regenerative medicine and what the science says about healthy aging. One major issue of aging for many people is a decline in the endocrine system, altering hormones and for some leading to a loss of libido and sexual function. An aging endocrine system also greatly impacts metabolism and can create an excess of dangerous, inflammatory belly-fat. Dr. Shapiro shares his experience in helping patients rebalance hormones. We also dive into more of Dr. Shapiro’s work, like using peptides and exosomes as part of an anti-aging protocol and what kinds of testing he uses to get the full picture of physiological age. I also share my personal experience in working together with him to achieve the longevity I’m after. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What you are about to discover in this podcast is one of the most advanced, fringe, cutting-edge biohacks and forays into self-experimentation I've ever done... ...a full body stem-cell makeover at in Salt Lake City, Utah...including a little-known type of compound called an "exosome". Dr. Harry Adelson, my first guest on today's podcast, began his training in regenerative injection therapy (prolotherapy) in 1998 while in his final year at The National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland, Oregon after having been cured of a rock-climbing injury with prolotherapy. During his residency program in Integrative Medicine at the Yale/Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut, he volunteered after hours in a large homeless shelter in Bridgeport, Connecticut, providing regenerative injection therapies to the medically underserved while gaining valuable experience. He opened Docere Clinics in Salt Lake City in 2002 and from day one, his practice has been 100% regenerative injection therapies for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain conditions. In 2006 he incorporated platelet-rich plasma and ultrasound-guided injection into his armamentarium, in 2010, bone marrow aspirate concentrate and adipose-derived stem cells, and in 2013, fluoroscopic-guided injection (motion X-ray). Since February of 2010, Dr. Adelson has performed over 4,000 bone marrow and adipose-derived adult stem cell procedures, placing him among those most experienced in the world with the use of autologous stem cells for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain conditions. Dr. Amy Killen is also a guest on today's show. She joined Docere Medical after moving to Utah from Portland, Oregon, where she was the Medical Director of an anti-aging and regenerative medicine specialty practice. Dr. Killen’s medical training began in Dallas, where she attended medical school at UT Southwestern and received her M.D. degree, graduating in the top 10% of her class. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona and served as Chief Resident during her final year. After working as a board-certified emergency physician for more than 7 years, Dr. Killen began studying and training in anti-aging, regenerative, and aesthetic medicine in hopes of approaching patients’ wellness and beauty from a different perspective and with a new toolbox of innovative and effective treatment options. Advanced training has included completion of the fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine through the American Association of Anti-Aging Medicine and certification training in Age Management Medicine. Dr. Killen is certified by the National Institute of Medical Aesthetics in both basic and advanced cosmetic injections and trained with Dr. Lisbeth Roy to learn the O-Shot and P-Shot PRP procedures. Further PRP injection training was provided by PRP Life Lift and she completed the Hair Coach certification program with Dr. Alan Bauman in Florida, which taught a comprehensive approach to non-surgical hair loss. Dr. Killen learned how to extract and process stem cells as part of the U.S. Stem Cell Training Course taught by leading stem cell scientist Dr. Kristin Comella. Dr. Amy Killen has also spent many hours in the operating suite learning directly from Harry Adelson N.D. at Docere Clinics. Dr. Killen has spoken nationally about PRP and stem cell therapies and teaches a physician training course for ApexBiologix outlining current best practices for using regenerative therapies in aesthetics and sexual optimization. During my discussion with Harry and Amy, you'll discover: -How Harry got started with prolotherapy and PRP for pain management in farmers and construction workers... -The “Stem Cell Theory of Aging", which states that biologic aging is a result of loss function and population of stem cells in musculoskeletal tissues... -How Harry is harvesting stem cells from bone marrow, supplementing them with exosomes (the “currency” of stem cells, the inter-cellular communication blocks), and then injecting them into all major moving parts as well as skin of face, scalp, and penis... -Why exosomes may be the future of stem cell therapy... -Why umbilical and amniotic stem cells could potentially be dangerous due to exposing the body to foreign DNA... -What "MSC's" are, why are they different and better than other stem cell therapies, and how they differentiate into musculoskeletal tissues and have been called “medical signaling cells” because they trigger the healing of damaged tissues... -Why somebody would undergo a full body stem cell treatment, and whether is it going to "rejuvenate all of the cells in my body"... -What to expect after a full body stem cell makeover... Interview with Dr. Amy Killen: -What PRP therapy is, and how it differs from stem cells... -What happens when you inject stem cells into a man’s "unit", and why Amy injected Ben... -Why Amy injects stem cells and PRP into vaginas, and how the O-Shot improves the power and duration of female orgasms... -The secrets of the vampire breast lift and other cosmetic procedures she has done... -What causes hair loss, and how to fix it with stem cells... -How to use stem cells and PRP to get a non-surgical facelift, and why Amy injected my face and scalp... -What V-cells are and how they work... -Post-treatment care and biohacks to enhance recovery and efficacy of the treatment... -And much more! We are now living far beyond our reproductive years, and this is why optimization has become so necessary. What can we learn from epigenetics? How is stress affecting our health in a major way? On this episode, Dr. Paul Thompson shares some of the factors affecting our endocrine health. Three Takeaways The longer you live, the more risk of a mutation resulting in cancer. Taking time to mentally decompress or engage in some form of stress relief has a tangible, positive impact on your health. Stress caused by screens and the toxic environment has caused people to become physiologically ill. At the start of the show, Dr. Paul shares how he got started and why physicians should always be liaisons for their patients. We also talked about epigenetic mutations amongst young men and women and whether there’s a relationship between heart disease and optimization. We also discussed: How epigenetics influence each other Why people should be de-stressing and decompressing more We have been exposed to more neuro-endocrine disruptors than any other time in history, and it’s having a massively negative impact on our health, happiness, and peace. There’s no way to avoid the disruption completely, but there are ways to control it. Always being connected to our screens and devices is decreasing our physical health. Optimizing yourself isn’t just about hormones. It’s about de-stressing, eating well, spending time in nature, and taking care of yourself. This way, we can live longer while also being happy.
