David Trainer, president of New Constructs, says that while Robinhood Markets is down about 80 percent from its 52-week high and that it has room to go a lot lower, having burned through $3.5 billion in cash in the last 12 months, with just more than that amount left in cash on the books. Trainer put the company back into The Danger Zone, saying "We're really not sure what is going to prop this zombie stock up much longer ... '' even as "it is priced as if it is going to go to the moon." Also on the show, Mark Fleming, chief economist at First American Financial Corp., discusses the state of the housing market, noting that homeowners with fixed-rate mortgages aren't feeling the pinch of inflation, while homebuyers are being squeezed hard by it and home-sellers are watching markets change rapidly. Fleming thinks mortgage rates have "mostly found their new normal," noting that current levels of between 5 and 6 percent are in line with historic norms even if they are dramatically higher than consumers have been used to for the last decade or more. Chuck answers a listener's question about what to do with some cash now, and portfolio manager Jeff Muhlenkamp of the Muhlenkamp Fund makes his debut on the show, talking stocks in the Market Call.

Senate Democrats say they have reached an accord on changes to their marquee economic legislation, clearing the major hurdle to pushing one of President Joe Biden's leading election-year priorities through the chamber in coming days. Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a centrist who was seen as the pivotal vote, says she is ready to “move forward” on the bill. Melissa Bank, whose 1999 bestseller “The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing” was a series of interconnected stories widely praised for its wit and precise language and embraced by many young readers has died. She was 61. A Texas jury has ordered conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to pay more than $4 million in compensatory damages to the parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre over Jones' repeated public claims that the attack was a hoax. A Los Angeles judge has ruled that Kevin Spacey and his production companies must pay the makers of “House of Cards” nearly $31 million because of losses brought on by his firing for the sexual harassment of crew members. Japan says it protested to China after five of the missiles landed inside its Exclusive Economic Zone. The drills were prompted by a visit to the island by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week. A judge in Russia convicted American basketball star Brittney Griner of drug possession and smuggling. She was sentenced to nine years in prison in a politically charged case that could lead to a high-stakes prisoner exchange between Washington and Moscow. The federal government has filed civil rights charges against four Louisville police officers over the drug raid that led to the death of Breonna Taylor. She was a Black woman whose fatal shooting in Kentucky helped fuel the racial justice protests that rocked the nation in 2020. Jurors in the trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz have toured the still-bloodstained building where he murdered 17 people four years ago. The 12 jurors and their 10 alternates were bused to Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Thursday along with the judge, prosecutors and Cruz's attorneys. Cruz wasn't present. Toyota's profit fell nearly 18% from a year earlier in the April-June quarter as a semiconductor shortage that has slammed the industry dented production at Japan's top automaker. Volatility in stock markets was back to its post-pandemic peak last week, with the mighty S&P 500, the world's largest stockmarket index by value, falling by 2.8% on Tuesday, only to rise by 2.5% on Thursday, before selling off 3.6% on Friday. So much of the value of the S&P 500 is now concentrated in a few technology behemoths that their fate determines its fate. Thursday's rebound had much to do with unexpectedly strong results from Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) amongst others, and Friday's sell-off appeared to have been triggered by disappointing results from Alphabet and Amazon, combined perhaps with the negative outlook expressed by Apple's management. However, these problems were mainly related to the pandemic's distortion of supply and demand. In cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin consolidates above the $60K mark, but the arrival of Bitcoin ETFs announce a fees war between the ETF providers, and that could heat up the market in the coming weeks.

Robinhood Markets Inc is aiming for a valuation of up to $35 billion in its initial public offering in the United States, according to a filing on Monday, paving the way for one of the year's most anticipated stock market listings.

Robinhood Markets filed for one of the most anticipated initial public offerings of the year on Thursday, revealing rapid growth resulting in 18 million retail clients and more than $80 billion in customer assets. Robinhood was profitable last year, generating a net income of $7.45 million on net revenue of $959 million in 2020. The company generated $522 million in revenue in the first quarter if 2021, up 309% from the $128 million earned in the first quarter of 2020. The brokerage aims to raise $100 million in the massive public debut. Robinhood Markets Inc. had planned to go public this month, but its plans have been held back by a dispute with regulators. The Securities and Exchange Commission has inquired about the company's expanding cryptocurrency business. According to sources, it intends to reveal its financials as soon as possible and to go public after the SEC completes its review.

Robinhood Markets Inc. advises users not to sell shares during the first 30 days after an initial public offering. Investors who sell or "flip" their IPO shares may be barred from participating in future transactions for a period of two months. The new IPO platform from Robinhood is available to all customers, with no account limit restrictions.
